Kitten Culling in Archez

For the past three /four weeks there have been 10 or more kittens born in and around the plot of land next to the Town hall in Archez. I adopted one of these kittens with an eye problem.

Last week someone callously killed all the kittens according to a resident living nearby  by hitting them over the head. The kittens -whose only crime was to be born in Archez – were then left dead or dying on the ground in the compound.  Their little bodies can be seen riddled with maggots.

In the heat of the day they are a health hazard. I don’t know if this was an official culling or conducted by the land owner .

There is supposed to be Law in Spain regarding this sort of disgusting behaviour. I appreciate that the Feral cat numbers need to be restricted – but surely in the 21st century killing any animal by hitting it over the head is not acceptable. Humane methods should be adopted if necessary.

Sadly yet more dogs in need of a home

Both found abandoned and kindly adopted by my Spanish neighbour.

He already has two dogs and can’t cope with 2 more so we are looking for forever homes for them. Both are bitches, vaccination and ready to be re homed.

Having just spent some time with them this morning I can say they are gorgeous dogs, submissive to other dogs, playful but also very calm despite only being 4 months old.

I think they might be German Shepherd Crosses and are currently in Almayate. The Tan one is smaller than the black one.

Help with hacking or whatever it is…

Someone appears to be taking over various bits of my internet accounts –

looks like cloning access to Endesa, Movistar and now Fbook  (eg telling me I need a new password but Microsoft tell me it’s a fraudulent email, a “personalised offer” from Movistar including name of person I dealt with when recently changed contract … ) I don’t know how to stop it – any recommendations?

Hi,

First: If requesting tech assistance on DigameXtra, please include full computer  info: Make, model, operating system and a detailed description of the symptoms. For instance, terms “various bits”and “cloning access”, are not very helpful. I don’t mind providing free advice, but I need as many clear details as you can provide.

There is no quick fix for hacked accounts and infected computers.

Immediately change the passwords to all the accounts you mention, and also your comp log-in password. Use a different password for each, with a minimum 12 characters including small letters, capitals, numbers and a punctuation mark.

Next, you need to have your computer professionally disinfected. A deep cleaning by a professional, not just a simple virus scan by a local hobbyist.

Of course, I can do this for you, or get it to another qualified repair shop.

Whoever cleans it for you can explain in detail what further actions will be necessary once they get an idea of what infected it. It is too much to put in an email. If you are told that your entire hard disk needs to be erased and a new copy of Windows installed find a different repair shop. That shouldn’t be necessary, it’s just easier to do than a proper cleaning and some techs are untrained in proper malware removal and recovery. However if you have a heavily infected Mac, a system re-install may be necessary.

What Was on –Air show in Torre del Mar Parking

Birgit was quite right yesterday about the noise of the air show but not about parking so it is a pity if anyone was put off by her warning of parking chaos.  We attended both days last year and this weekend and did not have a problem as all the open waste ground just past the camp site behind the beach is opened up for parking at just €1.  It had attendants organising the parking and there was plenty of room on both days.  Too late for anyone this year but worth bearing in mind for next as it really is worth a visit. Recommendation- Dashund transport

We recently had a small shipment of boxes transported from the UK to Competa by Andrew of Dashund Transport.

All of the boxes contained breakables and I am delighted to say that nothing was broken.

Andrew arrived exactly when he said he would, having rung a day or so before hand to confirm his arrival and delivery to our house in the campo of Competa was exactly a week later.

His quote was very reasonable and far cheaper than anyone else.

I cannot recommend him highly enough for friendliness and service.

1. The notices were placed on the cabinets on Saturday 15th July.  I drove past the two lads who were carrying out this duty.
   The office seems to be sorting out it’s paperwork.  A form is issued requiring name of water share holder, number of shares held, contact details, parcela number and size of plot.
   I was surprised by the short timescale also.
2. I did this procedure yesterday. The office was quite busy. I did the usual thing and took the kitchen sink.
   I was given a form to complete. Name, Address both postal and actual, NIE, number of shares, telephone number, e-mail address etc.
   I was asked for no proof of any of these things.
   The lady was not interested in any of my documents, including the original transfer document on purchase of house.
   This is the only evidence I have of any shares !
   When I produced the attached document her face illuminated and she copied all the details from that.
   I was then dismissed.
   I had the impression that something might turn up in the post sometime.
   I would suggest that the gent not returning until August makes a visit to the office a priority and makes sure he has his copy of the attached.
   I am lead to believe that the notices in some areas have been around a while but locally to me Manzano Alto and Barranco Plano they were put up two weekends ago.

We have 4 charming kittens, born May 5th, who are now ready to be re-homed. They are fully litter-trained and weened off Mum, and they happily eat both wet and dry food. Everyone is in great shape; they love a good play and a cuddle, and they’re all very friendly. We have a real pick-n-mix of colours to choose from: calico, tabby, tortoiseshell and ginger+white!

Warning

Beware if like me, you use Dropbox. Scammers are sending out apparently innocuous messages telling you that you have received a new message in your Dropbox and providing a link for you to open it. DON’T until you have verified that it actually is from there. For example, I received one this morning which said it was from Dropbox but was actually from a Hotmail. To verify this, tap/click on the header of the email and view the details of the sender. If it doesn’t have the word @Dropbox as the sender, it’s a hoax. Opening a link is likely to download malware, viruses, trojan horses and all sorts of evil nasties to your device, at worst allowing them to take control of it and at best confirming to them that your email address exists (which they can then sell on or continue spamming).

Copying anyone into emails using the cc field is also bad practice – always use bcc if you’re sending to groups of people, as spammers can also get your recipients’ email addresses from this.

Local Water Provider – Patamalara

Everybody who lives in some parts the campo, gets water probably from Patamalara in Torrox Pueblo.

On the big water deposit with my neighbour was a paper on it and it says that every member before 31 July 2017 has to prove at the office of Patamalara that they are the legal owner of the property.

If not, then you will be closed off from the water.

Early Sunday morning I observed a female Ibex with her kid at Pureto Collado. She called the kid by a short sharp whistle (sic!), and they both went up the firebreak, where 2 more Ibex were laying relaxed. Got a photo of two of the adults (upper left is one, the other a bit below).  Birgi

Services Wanted- Replacement double glazing pane
Can anyone advise where we can get a double glazing unit replaced in one of our large sliding windows.  The seal appears to have perished as there is water inside one of the panes.  We are based in Torrox Campo but can travel to nearby towns.

Services_Lacking- Airport Car Parking Horror

This message is purely to let others know my bad experience with a meet and greet parking company at Malaga Airport.
It is not to in any way have a go or slander this company- which I shall not name here – but feel free to ask me privately
I booked the parking online as usual, I met the parking rep’ at the airport and as normal sorted out the paperwork and paid for my parking upfront  which I never normally do I then gave him my car key and we carried on to Security.

On return our car wasn’t waiting for us (it usually is) I then phoned Parking Norte and I was told the driver would be with me soon. About 5 or 10 minutes later my car arrived rather quickly with the driver in a rush, he screeched to a halt in the car park he then got out and handed my key to me, I gave him 5€ tip.

Whilst he was talking to another client I had a quick look around my car to see if there was any damage. I couldn’t see anything obvious so we drove out.

Exiting the car park requires the driver to use the passenger mirror to watch for traffic coming from the right, I saw what looked like some kind of dirt on the mirror so I asked my wife to clean it for me.  Only it wasn’t dirt,  the mirror had been smashed.

I pulled on the roadside just outside the barrier and went back into the car park to look for the driver He had gone so I phoned the office only to be told to take a photo and send it to them. I told them I wanted someone to come and see this. They arrived 10 minutes later with the driver and I assume the manager. At first the manager, who spoke English tried to say I might have done it on the way out of the car park. After a while he agreed that it was their fault. Arrangements were made to have the mirror replaced at their expense.

The Manager some days later said he saw what had happened coming through their car wash, it was their fault and was very sorry they would pay for the repair. We feel the driver was fully aware of the damage but didn’t say anything to us when he dropped off the car (Deceitful ).
The company rep. came from Malaga to take the car to Ford on a Wednesday said it would be back later. It wasn’t. I was told it would be back Friday. No loan car offered.
This was a nightmare. They did get a new mirror fitted and they did bring my car back repaired but it was very stressful and, as I live in campo, I had no transport for 3 days.
This message is just to let others know and to make others aware that it’s very important to fully check your car before leaving the airport. It is not in any way to slander the company.  Email –  tom21hol@gmail.com

Windows 10 Alert by DoctorLaptop-Nerja

Windows 10 is releasing a big, new update package soon called the Creators Update. Windows 10 computers will be updated automatically and users should expect to see a message from Microsoft, asking you to review your Privacy Settings before proceeding with the update.

There is no reason for concern, just follow the prompts to complete this task, which must be done before the Creators Update will install.

Be sure to choose to “keep all files and programs” when asked, unless you want to wipe the computer memory and start afresh. In the latter case all data will be lost, so backup anything you need to save first!

NOTE: I recommend all Windows 10 users make a System Restore Point immediately. No telling when you will receive this update. This way you will be able to easily recover should this update prove buggy, an all –too-common occurrence. Do not delay this update, it contains critical security features.

RUBIO is looking for a new home

Due to my husband’s ill health Rubio needs a new home.

He is an 18 months old German Spitz, which is related to Pomeranians.

Rubio has been fully vaccinated, chipped and castrated.

He loves the company of children and other dogs. He also likes cats buts thinks that they also like to play, so unless your cats are also lively, confident and playful, Rubio is probably not for you!

Rubio is very loving and affectionate and enjoys being fussed and played with. He is still very young so is lively and loves to come out with you. He walks well on the lead and has had some obedience and agility classes.

This has become somewhat urgent because I am due to go into hospital for a back operation which will effectively put me out of action for at least 3 months.

 

 

Warning

Our grandchildren are here for the summer.   Our youngest granddaughter was 8 yesterday.   Her other grandparents, who live at Puerto de la Ducquesa near Estepona sent her a birthday card with some money inside.  They also included some holiday pocket money for both girls. When the packet arrived it had been ripped open and all the money taken.

The only way someone has known there was money inside is if the packet went through a scanner.

Talking to the post office this morning they said there was no point putting in a complaint because it is illegal to send cash by post.   Some one in the postal service has got themselves a nice little side

The Patronato De Reducacion Provincial

Yesterday I received a demand from The Patronato De Reducacion Provincial for quite large sum of money.

I visited the office in Nerja and was told that the Valor Catastral of my house has been increased to comply with some law decreed by National, not Local Government.

The result is an increase of 38% back-dated four years.

I asked if mine was the only property affected and was told no, so far 1700 properties in Nerja have been re-assessed.

Next year more will follow.

When I asked how properties were chosen for re-assessment I could not get an answer.

Tuesday 15th August – Excursion to “Big Bang” Almuñeca.

Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar for the spectacular fireworks display.  You will travel by coach to join in the festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Antigua (Virgen of the Old), which have been celebrated continuously since 1569. On arrival there will be time for you to have dinner in the many restaurants.  During the week, different recreational and cultural activities have taken place which culminate on the night of August the 15th, when there is a procession, carrying the Virgin, starting from the Church of the Incarnation to the beach of San Cristobal, where many boats are waiting at sea to accompany the image to the Playa Puerta del Mar (the Sea Gate Beach).  There then follows a fantastic firework display, set to music, which accentuates the beauty of the San Miguel Castle and the Holy Rock.  Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre.  Proceeds to fundraising.  Departure times Viñuela (Football Pitch) 18.20, Torre del Mar (Coach Station) 18.45, Caleta (opposite Vets) 18.55, Algarrobo (Lidl) 19.00
