Both were kept on my terrace, so they look somewhat battered and used but work alright. Display on the Crosstrainer does not work, might be ok with new batteries. Since I bought them used myself I can not tell the age but I price them down to a minimum.

Ideal for somebody who wants to keep them outside too without having to worry about a larger investment turning shabby.

I am planning to buy a larger Cross Motorcycle, so I am selling my little Honda.

I bought it new in December 2015 and purchased with it an extension of the guarantee (called Honda Plus) to a total of four years until 12/2019.

It has only run 3000km, like-new condition.

The Honda Wave is the ideal combination between a scooter and a motorcycle, fancying large wheels for superior handling (also on rough campo roads), an incredibly fuel efficient engine of 9 horsepower, 110ccm (takes about 1,7l/100km) and a semi-automatic gearshift. The latter has the advantage of a high engine/fuel efficiency and that you do not need to pull a clutch but can still downshift, for example on steep downhill campo roads where you would like to use the braking power of the engine instead of burning the brakes. Tax is 4,42€ per year (!)

It´s a reliable, very lightweight machine. I have never had any issues with it.

Paid 2200€ for it, willing to part for 1500€.

Buyer pays for change of ownership.

What’s on Phoenix Club Events

Trip to Gibraltar – Friday 7th July

The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday the 7^th July.  Due to several cancellations we have some seats available on this very popular trip.

We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.  The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price.   Still the best value on the coast!
Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place, as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Plenty to see in Gibraltar apart from the shopping!

Ole! Flamenco at Venta Luciano, Almunecar – 25^th August

The Phoenix Club are off to the famous Venta Luciano on the night of the 25^th August to enjoy an evening of great entertainment.

About the Show

Venta Luciano is located in the coastal town of Almuñécar in the province of Granada.  Opened in 1956, the restaurant has a long history of presenting authentic flamenco in the Costa Tropical.  This tradition continues with the most recent flamenco show in Venta Luciano, “Aires de Sacromonte”.  Held Friday nights from May through October in a typical Andalusian setting, ticket options include the show with drink or a barbecue dinner served before the performance.

The flamenco show in Venta Luciano is directed by Tatiana Garrido, daughter of the well known dancer and professor “Mariquilla”.  The production includes Luis Mariano, awarded national first prize guitarist in 2007, along with singer Manuel Heredia and dancers Kika Quesada and Agustín Barajas. The show is composed of two sets covering several styles of flamenco: Jaleos, Tarantos, Alegrías,Soleá por Bulerías, Tangos de Graná and the final closure, or Fin de Fiesta.

Over the years many of flamenco’s greatest have graced the stage in Venta Luciano, with singers such as Juanito Valderrama, El Cabrero, José Merce and Luis de Córdoba, amongst others. Dancers such as Mariquilla, Luci Montes, Manuela Carrasco and Dolores Vargas “La Terremoto” Maruja Garrido, as well as guitarists Paco Cepero, Manolo Franco, Paco del Gastor, and Jose Luis Postigo.  The special barbecue dinner has also been a long standing custom in Venta Luciano. The restaurant specialty of roast chicken over open coals along with other regional specialties have been perfected over the decades.

Included in the price is their famous BBQ, all you can eat and drink, traditional Flamenco, coach fare and drivers gratuity.

Fernando’s Friends Appeal

Fernando’s Friends is a local support group who aim to give support, information and advice to people who are experiencing loss.

Loss can involve bereavement, ill-health, lack of confidence.

Every Thursday at 11.30 am we hold a games morning at Nerja Club Hotel.

It’s an opportunity for people who are isolated at home to come and meet others. It also provides carers with a break.

Lost Dog – Please help find Geordie

Geordie is our much loved Border Collie/Springer Spaniel. He went missing from Riogordo at about 10pm on Saturday evening and we are hoping he is trying to make his way home to us in the campo near Los Morales/Espino. He is about 30 kilos, very friendly and loves humans, other dogs and playing in water. Geordie is microchipped and has a collar with a tag, he may come when called as he is very obedient.

Palm Tree Infestation

I spent a fortune on products such as Neem Oil, to try and eradicate the palm beetle from my large tree on the terrace. All to no avail, particularly once holes were evident in the stripped bark.  You are fighting a losing battle.

I’ve replaced the dead tree with a decorative Moroccan vase, which, after the initial outlay has cost me nothing more to maintain.

Christmas Cake Decorations for the Phoenix Club

Last year we sold more Christmas Cakes than ever before at the Phoenix Club’s Mrs Miggins Christmas Fair.  However, the cakes were sold with the understanding that the decorations ie figures, cake box etc would be returned to us as these items are re-used as they are rather expensive.

Many thanks to those who did return said items and if you still have some decs, please, please return them.  You can pop them in on any Tuesday or failing that, any day of the week excluding Sundays to Marie at Bar La Vega in Torre del Mar.

It will soon be time to start preparations again.

Pets Left Behind – another 2 viewpoints.

I fully agree with the poor morals and irresponsibility shown when some people simply abandon their pets. Unfortunately things are not always so clear-cut and simple, and the “owners” are not always to blame.

We moved into El Campo with three cats from Sweden, chipped, jabbed, etc. Two of which have since passed away. But due to the availability of food, 1 ½ other El Campo cats have adopted us. The 1 cat (Tom) is friendly, cute and wants to be a member of the family, but in essence he is still a wild cat. He also fights for his territory and keeps other cats away 🙂 We have also learned to restrict the availability of food.

But there is absolutely no way we can get Tom into a cat box, short of using a tranquiliser dart, and we would need to do that twice; once to have him vaccinated, chipped and obtain a passport, and the procedure would have to be repeated for the journey. He will not fall for that twice. So little Tom is an El Campo cat and he will always remain so after we leave. He would never take to a small apartment in Sweden.

I am sure that there are many others who are adopted by local cats, who in principle, are still wild cats, but come to befriend humans for easy food. I believe that there are cats brought here and abandoned, but there are many local cats who adopt short-term residents. In many cases the only other alternatives would be either to have the animals put down, or leave them in the environment from which they came. What do you suggest? Do you have an alternative solution?

I agree with the person  ( sorry but your post is nameless)
I couldn’t imagine life without my Four legged family, I know of many people who have returned back to their native country and have taken their animals with them, I also know of a few that for no fault of their own, have found themselves having to leave and have not got the resources to take their pets with them, it’s easy to asume that everyone is as fortunate as you or I, we should have some compasión for these people because the stress of making that decision they can carry for the rest of their life’s.
It’s easy to categorize people, but it’s not always as simple as that.

Opinion – Pets left behind…

I don’t know if I am the only one to get a little annoyed when I read of people returning back to the UK and abandoning their animals here for someone else to look after or to try to re-home. Many people complain at the way Spanish treat their animals when they come to live here, but it is equally irresponsible for foreign animal owners to not take their pets back with them. I cannot imagine just leaving our animals if we moved away, they are our family and go everywhere with us. With the pet passport now being so easy to obtain, there really is no excuse for leaving them here when there are already so many other unwanted cats and dogs needing homes.

Retirement Home Needed for this Yorkie

Can anyone offer this 12yr old Yorkie a forever home locally to live out his Golden years?

He was entered into the dog pound by his owner last Weds, due to serious ill health she could no longer keep him and was devastated to let him go.

I have been fostering him since he was released last Thursday and there is a possibility he can go to Germany but it would be lovely if we could save him the long journey.

He has a few age related health ‘issues’ eg poor vision, stiff joints but he really is a lovely old chap and the Vet says he has a strong heart. He isn’t demanding and doesn’t need to go for a daily walk but would enjoy some outside space to sniff around. Gets on very well with other dogs, not sure about cats yet.

Ibex at Pureto/Puerto Collado
Mike, you are absolutely right: people should be more careful with location.  However, you do not have a good case here. I was not trying to get people out to see the Ibex: surely they would be somewhere else on the next day. With this drought they have to get around a lot in order to find food.
The post was aimed at people walking their dogs in the area. I believe they recognized the place in spite of the unfortunate misspelling, sorry (it was correct in the title which was accidentally changed by ed).

Actually, ALL dog owners should take care in the nature, because (as stated in my earlier post, June 14, to which this was a follow-up): you may  meet wildlife where you don’t expect it. So, for that purpose: you don’t have to know where it was. Perhaps even better so!

It was in a nature park, where dogs certainly should not be on the loose. (There is no national park in Digameland). The wildlife IS there, even though you have not spotted any.

I read yesterday’s post about Patamalara with some concern.

We were in Torrox for several weeks in late June and  early July, and saw no notices of any need to prove property ownership to ensure continued water supply from Patamalara. I would have expected to see any notice about this at the meters where we turn our supply on and off.

We do not return until mid August at the earliest, so if there is a 31 July deadline for providing evidence of ownership at the Patamalara office we will have missed it.

Does anybody know anything further about this matter?

Posting to Digamextra could be useful, as I am sure a number of readers get water from Patamalara, and could be concerned following yesterday’s post.

Response to Plea for Information (Editor)

There seems lately to be a big serge in what appears to be aggressive dogs, which prompted me to write this short piece. Many people come to me claiming they have aggressive dog issues. Sometimes the attacks have taken place on several or one of their dogs, maybe even themselves or someone else, by their own dog. Although it maybe true that the dog acted in an aggressive manner, it does not mean it is an unpredictable dangerous animal.

The main reasons for dog aggression are, a lack of Exercise, Frustration or Fear.

Rescue dogs which are the main contingent here on the South Coast of Spain, are mainly driven by fear. They are generally quite unbalanced in their thinking and require some type of rehabilitation. Your normal everyday domestic dog can suffer from frustration and a lack of exercise. Sometimes it can be a combination of all three for either type of dog. But, the right amount of exercise is essential, to get rid of excess energy, then the energy will not be directed into the wrong areas.

It is also a great mistake to blame the breed. It was a Pit-bull therefore, for example. A Chihuahua is just as capable of becoming just as aggressive, its only that a Pit bull or Rottweiler are bigger and can do more damage.

I had a friend once who’s Cat put her in hospital after savaging her ankle. Owners can often be the source of there own problem and why an attack may occur, by setting up their dog to fail, by encouraging rough games, like tug of war, or teasing with food.

Pack Leadership is also essential. If a dog does not see you as its leader, there will be a fight for dominance within the pack, or if you have a dog on its own, it will become irrational and not listen. To control any breed, especially big powerful ones, you need to master the position of Pack Leader.

To conclude, even the wrongly, perceived as, fiercest of breeds, just want to be loved and they want to be lead, they just need the right help, from us.

Animal Healing was recently contacted by TAIL the animal shelter in Torrox Costa, about the rehabilitation of a Staffie called Tor. Tor had been rescued, placed in the shelter and imediately took to fighting other dogs. Thats what Tor had been bred or aquired for in the past. His ears had been cut off to stop other dogs latching on, not an uncommon practice, and he has many scars. Tor went straight into behavioural correct with Steven Rowle.

Steven explains.

When I first met Tor he did not sniff anything, he was all eyes. Dogs should always be sniffing, it tells them what and who you are, where you’ve been and a host of complex messages for their brain. It is a very common characteristic of fighting and stressed dogs, to not sniff anything. I imediately asked that Tor be kept out of the main part of the shelter and put in a quiet area with calm dogs, to begin imprinting positive memories over old ones. I took him and began rehabilitating him straight away. What I actually discovered was a very affectionate and responsive dog. Although his issues were apparent, he was eager to please and responded to correction really well. During his rehabilitation he was introduced to a variety of new dogs of different sizes and breeds, and responded fantastically well on and off the lead. Its all a matter of reprograming the brain and continuing with the positive memories to help Tor to move forward in life.

As Cesar Milan the Dog Whisperer says and I say to everyone I meet, its all about energy. You can interpret human and animal energy into whatever belief system suits you, but you wear your energy like a coat. For instance if I wore a big red coat, anyone who came anywhere near me would see it. The energy we display by our intentions and emotions is exactly the same. The energy we produce both mentally and physically is something for the animal to read. If it is weak and erratic, it is confusing to the dog and you will get all the wrong responses. Tors energy was weak and he was very lacking in confidence. My energy had to be strong, assertive and calm, to overwhelm his, so he would have no choice but to give in to it

There is no Dog that cannot be rehabilitated.
