Torrox Spanish History Group: Our next talk be on the 4th of June and our speaker will be Peter Afendoulis whose talk will be on Queen Isabella of Spain. We are all looking forward to Peter’s talk. Peter is an experienced speaker and there is always a twist at the end of his talks which always make us laugh and we very much enjoyed the last one he gave. It was entitled “How Christopher Columbus Invented the British Navy”!!
We have enjoyed some very interesting coach trips. I gave a talk on Gerald Brenan’s life and so the groups next trip will be to Yegan in the Alpujarras to visit the village where Gerald Brenan lived for many years and where members of the Bloomsbury group visited him on several occasions.
There will not be any meetings during the months of July and August as it is very hot, and also a lot of people go home or have visitors during this period. So after our meeting in June the next meeting will take place on the 3rd of September.
The Torrox Spanish History group meet every first Tuesday of the month at 11am. The meetings are held at the resturant El Parquesol in El Morche.

Recommendations

Menu del Dia in Torrox Costa: Our favourite place for menu del dia in Torrox Costa is Bar Avenida on Avenida El Faro (just beyond the Tails charity shop on the road down to the lighthouse). 3 course meal (half a dozen or so choices per course) with chappata bread roll plus the drink of your choice for 9 euro. The starters are very good (the fish noodle soup is excellent), main courses are tasty although not very large and the dessert selection is very good including cheesecake, ‘proper’ tiramisu etc.
When fancying a change from Spanish food we also like the menu del at Ichibans on the paseo (Asian fusion) – they have one 3 course meal at 7.95 euro and another either a euro cheaper or dearer (sorry can’t remember which).

Recommendation Phil Stockton – Plastering and damp services: We have just had some extensive plastering and damp-proofing work done in our pueblo townhouse by Phil Stockton, who covers the Digamextra area. He came very highly recommended to us. We have to say that Phil totally exceeded our expectations. Apart from being an expert in his trade, he is extremely professional, punctual and takes a major interest in the problem that needs to be solved. I can’t recall having ever met a more diligent tradesman than Phil.
His prices are very reasonable too. In turn, we therefore have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Phil to other Digamextra subscribers who may be needing to undertake plastering projects and/or have damp problems to solve.

Medical Appointments Problems: Yesterday I had an appointment with a dentist in Algarrobo. When I turned up it was to find that the surgery was an empty shell with six builders in it. Nobody had let me know.
Last week my husband had an appointment with the doctor at El Morche. I booked it online with Salud Responde as I have done many times before. After a long wait we were told he wasn’t on the list, despite having a printed confirmation. This is the second time this has happened. Has anybody else had a problem with this online booking system recently? I prefer it but I am losing confidence in it.

BBC 2AM 27May19- UK European elections 2019: Brexit Party dominates as Tories and Labour suffer.
The Brexit Party has taken the lead in the UK European election results, with the pro-EU Lib Dems coming second.
The Conservatives and Labour have suffered heavy losses, with the former heading for less than 10% of the vote. Overall, out of 64 MEPs declared, Mr Farage’s party has won 28, the Lib Dems 15, Labour 10, Greens seven, the Tories three and Plaid Cymru one.

Spain’s Socialists win big in EU vote: With more than 95 percent of votes counted, government spokeswoman Isabel Celaa announced the Socialist Party had come first with close to 33 percent, followed by the conservative Popular Party which won just over 20 percent.
Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, who is now living in exile in Belgium won a seat as an MEP, so did his former deputy Oriol Junqueras currently, currently jailed on remand in Spain and on trial with 11 others for his role in staging the illegal referendum on independence, he won a seat as an MEP as well as being elected to Spain’s national parliament.

Windows 7 Update Problem Latest Info: Until the dust settles with this Processor Chip Threat fiasco I recommend all Windows 7 users turn off Automatic Updates. Holding off for 4 or 8 weeks on updates won’t be a problem, that will give time for a “proper” fix; the current panic response fix is poorly conceived. I have had a dozen calls in the past 3 days where user’s Win 7 computers have had big problems after attempting to do the recent batch of updates, which include the processor patch I previously warned about. There are 2 problems occurring. One, if the update installs, the computer is now very slow, as if you are on a slow internet connection. Two, the computer tries to restart itself after the update, or tells you to restart it, but that leads to a startup failure/restart loop and endless error messages. Problem #1 has no remedy and as of now cannot be undone! If you have Problem #2 try turning it off and on a few times, waiting 5 minutes between restarts. You will probably have to force the shutdowns by holding down the poser button 5 secs.,  something I normally warn against; in this case there is no alternative since it’s stuck in a restart loop with no access to on-screen shutdown buttons. If it still won’t start you’ll need a Win 7 install dvd/usb media to boot from to  run recovery tools. I can fix Problem #2 for you if necessary.
