DoctorLaptop’s Tips #77
-I hear this a lot: My new fiber internet connection is 100 times faster than my old antenna based connection yet my computer shows little improvement in the time it takes to load web pages and web-surf. I had 3Mb/s WiMax, now I have 300Mb/s fiber. Shouldn’t I see a dramatic improvement? Sure, there is a small improvement and marginally less video buffering, but nowhere near a 100x improvement.
Much of the increased capacity is being used to show you fancier ads and provide higher quality videos. Today a webpage may have dozens of “click me” ads with a flashing stream of constantly changing photos, and a video player that pops out of its place on screen, following you around despite your scrolling to get away from it. This is how your new connection speed is used. To be fair, while it uses a much more data and bandwidth these days, the audio/video quality of streams is greatly improved, with HD and even 4K now available for streaming. Another factor causing slow browser performance is that over the years they have become “bloated” with hundreds of new resource-eating and data collecting features as they battle competing browsers for market dominance. Check it out…start Chrome then open your Task Manager, you will see many Chrome processes running, most of them connected to the internet yet you’ve only just started the browser! What are they already connected to? That’s a trade secret.  For a faster browsing experience try a secure browser that has the junk background processes stripped out, that do not censor, collect data, allow trackers, or store cookies. Here are a few secure browsers that do not.
https://brave.com/
https://dissenter.com/ (Also provides an uncensored comment section on sites that do not permit comments!)
https://www.epicbrowser.com/ (Free IPTV friendly VPN included)
-Problems with live video streams? If you have had problems watching your favorite games or streaming sites, or they play poorly with constant buffering, try Opera browser. It often allows websites and videos to display that don’t work well on Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers.  Be sure to turn off the built-in ad-blocker before streaming (blue badge symbol at end of address bar), it will block most videos. You should use another adblocker in Opera, I suggest the uBlock Origin add-on. If you want consistant, reliable streaming then only use your new Opera for that purpose. Keep it clean of other stuff you load into your daily-use browser: extentions, add-ons, bookmarks, themes, etc.; uBlock Origin is the exception, use that. Opera browser also has a free built-in, unlimted data VPN.  You must open Opera Settings, then click Privacy and Security, and enable the VPN before using it the first time,  Video instructions here See if it meets your needs before paying for a premium VPN, could save you a few bucks.

Pink Ladies, a new cancer support charity: Help is the key word here. There is an English-speaking help line that anyone can use (658946903). It is not just for people diagnosed with cancer. “Cancer affects not just the person who has it, but their families as well. The AECC offers help to everyone.”
People calling the line – and the charity is open to everyone regardless of age, sex or nationality – will be assessed according to their needs and then referred to the appropriate department of the AECC.
The charity has branches in just about every municipality in Spain, including the Costa del Sol’s towns and cities. It has three main areas in which it helps in the fight against cancer.
Firstly is the practical help it gives sufferers and their families. This takes many forms including psychological help both during and after treatment as well as physical treatment such as physiotherapy, which is not included on the NHS. All the services the AECC offers are free of charge. Other services they offer are emotional therapy hospital transport, translators, amd much more.
Secondly their volunteers are very much involved in prevention. They staff tables and holñd campaigns to educate the general public about cancer, its causes and symptoms. They are also acrive in fund raising through a series of events including the Costa Women dinner party, an eighties night at the Sohail castle in October.
Thirdly, and very importantly, they provide funding at a national level for investigation and research into treatments and cures for cancer. The AECC is in fact one of the main contributors in Spain for such funding.
At heart the AECC is a deeply caring organisation. As Luisa says: “It does not matter what your problems are when it comes to cancer. We are here to listen to you and help.”

Spain opens epic new theme park: A new ‘historical’ theme park that just opened outside Toledo in central Spain has sold out tickets for its first run of shows within 24 hours of going on sale.
El Sueño de Toledo opened last weekend as the sister site of the famous French Puy-du-Fou theme park in the Vendée (Pays-de-la-Loire), which has won accolades as “the best in the world”.
Located just outside the walled city of Toledo, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage listed site since 1986, the five-hectare theme park will feature historical re-enactments and performances to tell the story of 1500 years of Spanish history.
The show premiered on August 30th with a performance lasting one hour and ten minutes that involved more than 185 riders and actors on stage, and more than 2,000 characters and using special effects such as fountains, fireworks, light show and drones.
The shows involve 1,200 costumes, as well as 800 projectors, 60 water jets, and 28 Full HD video projectors performed to an audience of up to 4,000 spectators.
The park, an hour south of Madrid, has so far scheduled 15 live performances in the first season that runs until the end of October, but all 60,000 of the tickets released have already sold out and another performance has been planned.
El Sueno de Toledo is currently open on Fridays and Saturdays and tickets cost €24. Photo: Pou de Fou España Source Link
