Danny Boy’s Bar & Kitchen- This weekend at Danny Boy’s:
-Friday 17.30-19.00 A special one-off Radio Broadcast from UWS Radio (University of Western Scotland) live from the bar. An hour and a half of great tunes, songs and chat for folk music lovers, covering all areas of the folk tradition. DJ Graham will be setting up his pop-up radio booth on our terrace, and we’d love you to come join us for a drink and a chat.
-Saturday 21.00 – Karaoke with Carlos. Join us in the bar for a night of fun and craic. Sing along to your favourite songs, and choose from Carlos’ extensive songbook in English and Spanish.
-Sunday 21.00 – The Candlelight Sessions hosted by Paul Hayes. A sit-around easy going session of live music with Paul and a bunch of musical friends. Come along and join in, or just sit back, have a beer, and round off your weekend in style.

3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana: One more year, in the unique setting such as Frigiliana, one of “The most beautiful villages in Spain”, more than 50 artists from 12 different nationalities will show their works in the 34 locations that you will discover along your walk through the picturesque white streets. From the 4th to the 6th of October 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organized by Maribel Martín and Brendon Taylor (Studio-gallery AMARTE) in collaboration with the Town Hall of Frigiliana.
Among the particularities of this edition, it requires a special mention, the posthumous tribute to Soledad Platero Sánchez (1995-2019) in LOCALIZATION Nº14, where along with her posthumous work, will be the initiative A DAFFODIL FOR SOLEDAD, charitable proposal to raise funds for research against cancer, in general and sarcoma, in particular.
We also want to highlight our Photocall, thanks to which you can be part of the 3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana, as a spectator and as a creator. You can make your own work of art in the Photocall that you will find next to the information kiosk and share it on social networks tagging @rutadelartefrigiliana or using #rutadelartefrigiliana #fotocolrutadelartefrigiliana #photocallrutadelartefrigiliana so that everyone can see all the works created.

Browse our boutique with new and nearly new clothing and accessories. Also household goods. Wide stock of second hand English books. Book tickets for coming events and excursions. There is also a little bit of paradise to enjoy sitting in the garden.
-Sunday October 6th – Harvest Thanksgiving & Blessing of St. Francis Service for Pets. Please come and join friends of the St. Barnabas Church, in the Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar Centre. Please bring your photographs of your pets so that they can be blessed during the Service. Once the prayers are over, you will share a lunch, so please bring a plate of food. From Sunday September 29th to Sunday 27th October food will be collected at the Centre and later it will be distributed amongst the local charities. Time of the Service 11.00.
-Monday October 7th – Half Orange “Bring and Share” Lunch, widows, widowers and singles group. You are welcome to join us and make and meet new friends at the Centre. The group also meets on the other Mondays of the month for coffee, walks, visits to places of interest, etc. Time 13.00.
-Monday 21st to Thursday 24th October – Excursion to Baeza, Úbeda and Cazorla. 4 day coach excursion to the UNESCO world Heritage, Andalusia towns of Baeza and Úbeda, set in Jaen Province and also the National Park of Cazorla. Tickets are available at the Centre, price: 289 Euros per person in a double room or 329 Euros single room. Price includes insurance, guided tours and entrance fees. Proceeds for fundraising. Andalucia is to legalise more than 327,000 homes that have been in a legal limbo:
A decree from the Junta de Andalucia aims to put an end to the uncertainty in which 327,583 dwellings built throughout Andalucia on land not zoned for housing have found themselves in.
Owners of these houses will have to take the first step and ask their local council to abide by this regulation. This is not an amnesty. Houses built in protected areas such as national parks, within 100 metres of coastline or where demolition orders have been confirmed by the courts are not covered by the decree.
But it is hoped that it will remove the fear of demolition for the vast majority of the properties affected. In the past several houses have been knocked down. The courts arguing compensation should be paid to the owners by the developers or the local council that gave permission for their construction in the first place. The compensation process can take years to get through the courts.
The regulations allow for groups of houses to become urbanisations without being on the official urban development plans (PGOU). Up until now this was not possible and it could take up to nine years to be included. Instead they will be able to be included on a special development plan, which takes about 20 months. This will allow them to access basic services such as electricity and water supplies.
Most of the affected houses are in coastal provinces. Malaga (68,652), Almeria (55,265) and Granada (52,927) occupy the top positions of the list.
Many of these homes were originally built with permission from the local town hall but in areas not officially zoned for housing.
Many people bought their homes in good faith, thinking everything was above board and legal, only to later find the properties were unsaleable due to their ‘irregular’ status. Hopefully now most of these disputed builds can be legalized and bring to an end many years of anxiety.

Alicante braces for mosquito plague: Just as the Alicante region is counting the costs of the worst floods in recorded history to hit the province, biology experts and warning of a secondary catastrophe to emerge from the flood waters. As parts of the region remain under water, the stagnant and murky swamps provide perfect breeding grounds for a multitude of insects including millions of biting flies such as the aggressive tiger mosquito. Environmental experts are also warning of the possibility that the marsh areas are harbouring the eggs of the Asian tiger mosquitos. This invasive species has spread rapidly throughout Europe in the past years and has the potential to carry serious diseases. Source Link
Unidentified Insect: I am quite confident that the Insect is a Water Scorpion (Nepa cinerea), it is easier to identify with a clearer Photograph, when you know its rough size and it is laid out properly displaying all the appendages, however, I am quite sure I have identified the type of Insect correctly. Water Scorpions come in lots of different shapes and sizes, but the Ovipositor looking bit sticking out of the rear (a Snorkel to assist in underwater breathing) helps identify it.
