DoctorLaptop is open for repair services: Tech and communications workers are “essential” workers and allowed to work as long as they are not opening their shops to public traffic. Work by appointment is acceptable, however I cannot supply you with an appointment slip to show police if you get controlled in transit. While most readers will not be able to travel freely to make drop-offs, many will have friends who are authorized to travel, who may be able to drop-off and pickup laptops. Restaurants & Markets That Deliver

If you know for certain a restaurant is still delivering (none should be offering take-away at this point), have them send in the details including Name of Restaurant, Location, Phone Number, Hours and a photo of their menu (optional). Unfortunately I have received some inaccurate info from well meaning 3rd parties which has caused problems. So now these businesses must submit their own posts, although I will in this case allow them to post even if they are not subscribers. -Ed.

Recommendations & Requests

South of France: Does anybody know if there is a DigameXtra type blog available to ex pats living in the south of France?
Regards, Jackser/Tadgh, Competa
barretttadgh@yahoo.com (I know of  Digame – Mallorca, and have been told several Digame blogs exist in Germany. The one in Almeria shut down 2yrs ago. DigameXtra- Andalucia is mirrored in Brazil and India {verified in my subscriber list}; subscribers who have travelled to Spain saw it, and now back home share new issues in old-school email chains. I don’t know of any Digame blogs in France. -Ed.)

News & Articles

(Click the link to read the full article)

Please be careful about believing crisis info posts on Fakebook and Social Media: In the past 36 hours there have been circulating several hoaxes that well meaning people have spread to thousands of unsuspecting FB friends. These have included a hoax that tobacco shops would not open today…they did open. Other hoaxes have involved new stiffer restrictions on who may be outside, and for how long, as well as how far you may go when walking your dog. To make it worse, some local authorities are making statements contrary to the official info on regional gov’t websites, and the local press is posting it as if it is undoubtedly true. Other possible hoaxes include a story that virus victims over 65 are being removed from ventilators in hospitals, are then being sedated and left to die (there is even a homemade video being passed around of this one with a crying man sharing a rumour he heard 3rd hand). Still others tell readers to wear masks outdoors when all the official sites are saying that is unnecessary unless you are sick, that masks should be saved for medical workers. Some FB users are even exploiting the crisis to gain “likes” on their FB pages by posting fake info posters designed to cause panic and get reposted by all their contacts, so as to harvest the “likes” the fake poster generates. That’s the social media world kids live in today. Anything for a taste of celebrity.
If there is no verifiable source provided with the info, while it may contain some degree of truth (as do all good lies) you can’t believe it!
This is precisely why social media needs to be shut down, or severely restricted to registered, verified, PAYING users only. It is full of fake accounts, fake news, fake friend requests, fake likes, and fake info. There is no accountablilty. If you get shut down for misbehaving you can create a new account in 5 minutes and get back to fake-land. The solution is that everyone should have their own website or blog, that is tracable back to the owner, so if they misbehave or intentionally post hoaxes there will be consequences. -Ed.

Hackers Begin Exploiting Zoom’s Overnight Success to Spread Malware: As people increasingly work from home and online communication platforms such as Zoom explode in popularity in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, cybercriminals are taking advantage of the spike in usage by registering new fake “Zoom” domains and malicious “Zoom” executable files in an attempt to trick people into downloading malware on their devices.
The recent, staggering increase means that hackers have taken notice of the work-from-home paradigm shift that COVID-19 has forced, and they see it as an opportunity to deceive, lure, and exploit. Each time you get a Zoom link or document messaged or forwarded to you, I’d take an extra look to make sure it’s not a trap, said Omer Dembinsky, Manager of Cyber Research at Check Point. Malaga Province: There are now confirmed 1,158 cases in Malaga province and 64 deaths related to Covid-19. The latest coronavirus case figures in the province of Malaga show an increase of 105 new cases of infection between Saturday and Sunday, double the 47 new positives the previous day.
Malaga province now has 1,158 confirmed cases and 64 deaths related to Covid-19.
This is according to the official figures released by the health authorities, however the real number of cases of infection is expected to be much higher.
It is considered that 80% of people with the virus only have minor symptoms and don’t go to a health centre and therefore have not been tested.
The number of cases is expected to increase significantly over the next few days as more tests, and MORE RELIABLE TESTS, are made available. A large supply of these testers have had to be returned to the manufacturer in China after it was discovered they were not accurate. Getting replacements will delay some testing.

First known cat infected with coronavirus reported in Belgium: A cat in Belgian has tested positive for the coronavirus after catching the potentially deadly bug from an infected owner, officials said Friday. The sick pet in Liège tested positive after showing classic symptoms of COVID-19 — including difficulty breathing — a week after its owner first fell sick, health officials told a press conference, the Brussels Times reports (In English- https://www.brusselstimes.com/all-news/belgium-all-news/103003/coronavirus-belgian-woman-infected-her-cat/).
While it is the first known infection of a cat, two dogs in Hong Kong have previously tested positive — with the first, a 17-year-old Pomeranian, dying after returning home from quarantine.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization insists that there is “no evidence that a dog, cat or any pet can transmit COVID-19” to humans.

Spain’s Government has clarified exactly which ‘essential’ services and activities will be exempt from tomorrow’s toughened restrictions:
The toughened lockdown rules mean that ‘all non-essential workers’ must remain at home from Monday March 30 until April 9, in an additional push to halt further spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), said Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The additional restrictions were announced yesterday, and ratified in parliament earlier today. The Government has now also confirmed exactly who can go to work tomorrow.
In short, all those working in services related to the manufacturing, production and distribution of all ‘essential’ basic products and services, should continue to go to work from tomorrow. This includes:
-All security and law enforcement bodies, as well as armed forces, and of course, all medical/health professionals. All those working for companies/firms providing essential services to these main group also can continue to work.
-Carers (public and private) as well as those working in social security services, those involved in protecting victims of crime, or working in immigration/refugee centres.
-Transport workers and those employed by funeral services, cleaning/maintenance and refuse collection services.
-Staff of news/media/communications, as well associated printing firms and distributors.
-Those working for energy and water companies, as well as electricity, gas and water suppliers. This includes those producing and distributing related goods/parts, such as servicing central heating and air conditioning, etc.
-People employed in aerospace, defence, meteorology, telecommunications and essential IT/internet services.
-Those working in finance, insurance, customs, legal, tax and post offices.
-Workers involved with distribution and selling of food/drinks and all other essential items for primary needs – such as hygiene, health and medical/pharmaceutical products, as well as those providing home delivery for restaurants.
-Those involved in the manufacturing of chemicals, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, textiles, glass, tobacco, paper, card, batteries, as well materials required to produce basic ‘essential’ goods/equipment required by the any ‘essential’ product/service activity.
-Any service that’s required by any ‘essential’ service/product outlined above.
In short, “if you don’t work for an essential service or activity, you must remain at home for the next 15 days”, stated Sanchez. He ensured that jobs will be guaranteed after the lockdown, and that workers would continue to receive salaries.
“I’m conscious of the sacrifice that everyone is making, but this move will help us to further reduce the number of infections, and help to alleviate the increasing pressure on the country’s hospitals and intensive care units, which are at breaking point,” added Sanchez.

Camino del Arte Torrox June 2020, Postponement:
Dear Artists and Art Lovers,
Regrettably, we have now taken the decision to postpone the first Camino del Arte Torrox, until the 4/5/6 of June 2021.
Our grateful thanks go to Mari Angeles Ruiz who is our councillor for culture in Torrox, for her enthusiasm to launch the Camino, and in particular to Salvador Marquez from the Tourist Office Torrox Costa, without whom this project would never have got off the ground.
Also, we would like to extend our thanks to all the cafe bars, restaurants and businesses who supported the Camino by offering exhibition space in their premises, and of course lastly, thank you to all the artists who applied to participate in the event.
All of the work we have done will not be wasted as we will carry it all forward to 2021, when we hope that you will all once again apply to participate in the first Camino del Arte Torrox.
Thank you, and Best Wishes.
Hilary Mullany and Jill Carrott.

USA Coronavirus News: President Donald Trump is raising the idea of what he’s calling a quarantine involving New York and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut, states hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic. But there are questions as to whether the federal government has the power to do so.
The United States has more confirmed coronavirus infections than any other country. Cities including Detroit, Chicago and New Orleans are growing as hotspots of infection, while New York City continues to be pummeled. Nurses there are calling for more masks and other gear to safeguard themselves against the virus that has so far sickened more than 52,000 people and killed over 700 in New York state, mostly in the NYC.

Italy coronavirus death toll surges past 10,000; lockdown extension likely: MILAN (Reuters) – The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy barreled past 10,000 on Saturday, a figure that made an extension of a national lockdown almost certain. Officials said 889 more people died in the previous 24 hours, the second highest daily tally since the epidemic emerged on Feb. 21, and that total fatalities reached 10,023. Confirmed cases rose by about 6,000 to 92,472, the second-highest number of cases in the world behind the United States.
Italy, the first Western country to introduce severe restrictions on movement after uncovering the outbreak five weeks ago, has since increasingly tightened them, and hopes that they would be eased from next Friday were fading fast.
“There are elements that make us believe that all of the April 3 expirations of provision will have to be postponed,” Industry Minister Stefano Patuanelli told Italian broadcaster Rai.
Italy schools closed March 5th and their lockdown started March 9th. Spain lockdown began March 14th. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-italy/italy-coronavirus-death-toll-surges-past-10000-lockdown-extension-likely-idUSKBN21F0R5

Spain’s PM toughens lockdown rules announcing ALL ‘non-essential workers’ to remain home from Monday: Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has toughened the country’s lockdown restrictions by announcing this evening that “all non-essential workers” must remain at home from Monday March 30.
All workers that don’t work in ‘essential’ services or activities must now also remain in isolation for the next 15 days. He stated that jobs of these employees would be guaranteed after the lockdown, and that workers would continue to receive salaries.
Essential services would be limited to the supermarket, food/agricultural sector, health/medical professions, armed/security forces, as well as communications. However those working in construction or manufacturing firms not related to medical, food or ‘essential’ services, must now remain home for the duration of the lockdown. Full article:

Have a positive day: Yesterday on the BBC website there was an article asking for volunteers to enter data. The idea is to put 200 years of rainfall history onto computer so that more accurate statistics can be provided. Pop along to https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/edh/rainfall-rescue and start entering the data, no need to register, the form is on the screen
or https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52040822 to see the article and link.
Just a few entries can help to complete this task. I have actioned a couple of hours to date and have found it fascinating. I selected 1951 and was taken on a tour of the UK, from Shetland to Norfolk and Cornwall. Today I´m working on 1949 and I´m thinking that they had a better August…

Virus test results in minutes? Scientists question accuracy: New, simple pin-prick blood tests or nasal swab tests can determine within minutes if someone has, or previously had, the virus. Such tests could reveal the true extent of the outbreak and help separate the healthy from the sick. But some scientists have challenged their accuracy. Read more:

All 650,000 rapid Covid-19 test kits from China ‘USELESS’ & must be returned, says Spain’s Health Minister: Earlier, it was thought only a batch of around 9,000 kits were faulty, and had to be returned. However, after other batches were tested by health experts, it was found that none of the test kits are of ‘quality’ or ‘up to standard’. Lab tests revealed that the new rapid testing kits were actually only correctly identifying positive cases around 30 per cent of the time.
The Spanish government purchased the rapid test kits from Chinese firm Shenzhen Bioeasy Biotechnology, in a bid to start mass testing and get a clearer picture of the extent of the rate of infection rate in the country. However, it recently transpired that this firm doesn’t actually have an ‘official licence’ to sell these tests or any other medical equipment. (You have to wonder if the bureaucrat that authorized this purchase without due diligence will be held responsible for this egregious mistake that has seriously set back efforts to combat the coronavirus? -Ed.) What happens to rental payments and agreements that end during the state of alarm? : The Government is preparing measures to help the most disadvantaged tenants during the state of alarm. United Podemos is pushing for the Executive forgive two monthly payments and compensate 100% of the rents to owners who have two properties or less. But the decision has not yet been made and negotiations with the Socialist Party continue.
While these initiatives are decided, this is how the rental market is regulated:
What happens if the lease expires during the alarm state?
Ignasi Vives, lawyer specialized in leases and real estate agency Sanahuja Miranda, explains that the royal decree declaring the state of alarm establishes the suspension of statutes of limitations and expiration of any actions and rights, so that these will be suspended during the term of the state of alarm and, where appropriate, of the extensions to be adopted. Bob Dylan Releases 17-Minute Song About JFK Assassination:
The surprise track, which Dylan said only was recorded “a while back,” comes eight years after his last album of original material.
For years, Bob Dylan fans have spoken in a sort of hushed awe about the longest song he ever released, “Highlands,” an album side-length 1997 track that ran 16 minutes and 31 seconds. Now, 23 years later, he’s slightly outdone himself. As the clock struck midnight on the east coast Friday morning, Dylan released a new song, “Murder Most Foul,” that has a running time just seconds shy of the 17-minute mark — and it’s an epic free association on the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

How a Hedge Funder Scored a 10,000% Return Amid Coronavirus Market Meltdown: At the beginning of March, hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman revealed that his investment firm, Pershing Square Capital Management, had bought $27 million worth of credit protection on global investment-grade and high-yield credit indexes in late February to limit portfolio loss amid coronavirus-spurred market volatility.
The timing of those investments couldn’t have been better. Major stock indexes began their free fall on March 6 and hit the rocket bottom on Monday. The same day, Ackman finished unwinding those hedges and reaped $2.6 billion in proceeds. Full story: https://observer.com/2020/03/hedge-fund-bill-ackman-profit-coronavirus-market-crash/

-Animal charities have inevitably been hit hard by the lockdown with shelters closed to the public and adoptions on hold until the emergency is over. However, some are still taking in animals.

Torrox town hall: Would like to share my experience of help from torrox council. My daughters in uk contacted them to let them know that my husband and I were in bad health and over 70. I had phone call to let me know where to ring for delivery of food etc.,and who to call for medication. All good but also I get a phone call every morning to ask if I am ok. How good is that? Eileen / El Morche, eileen_hobbs @ hotmail .com

Reusable plastic shopping bags suspect: I heard a radio program today on Republic Broadcasting Network that suggested plastic shopping bags contain traces of previous contents and may harbor bacteria and viruses. Freshly washed cloth bags are safer they say. If you must use plastic, it is suggested you wash them between uses with soapy water and dry them in direct sunlight. -Ed.

DoctorLaptop Note: If your internet has been slow, if websites have had difficulty loading, if videos keep stalling/buffering, if Chrome browser is not behaving correctly, if clicks on items are ignored, if video calls keep cutting out or if your back arrow refuses to work you are not alone. People all over the world are experiencing the same issues. Big Tech blames it on the increased internet traffic caused by the quarantines and home workers. Some users are specifically complaining about Chrome browser acting buggy and are reporting better internet response from non-Chrome browsers. Here are some alternatives I use:

Banks raise the limit of contactless card payment from 20 to 50 euros for the coronavirus: The Spanish financial institutions that are part of the Spanish system of card payments to which almost all the financial institutions of the country are attached have agreed to temporarily extend the limit of contactless payment from 20 to 50 euros, thus reducing contact by not having to type our PIN number. In this sense, the public has also been recommended to “prioritize card or mobile payment” to reduce physical contact. Harvard researchers: Social distancing during COVID-19 may have to be turned on and off like a spigot. It’s unlikely one single, long stretch of “social distancing” is going to solve COVID-19 for the US (or EU?) before a vaccine arrives, say Harvard researchers. Instead, it may be necessary to keep having periodic intervals of quarantine until the US healthcare system is fortified. Android Apps in Google Play Store Capitalizing on Coronavirus Outbreak: The coronavirus outbreak is proving to be an opportunity for attackers to stage a variety of malware attacks, phishing campaigns, and create scam sites and malicious tracker apps.
Now in a fresh twist, third-party Android app developers too have begun to take advantage of the situation to use coronavirus-related keywords in their app names, descriptions, or in the package names so as to encourage installation, drop malware, perpetrate financial theft and rank higher in Google Store searches related to the topic.
“Most malicious apps found are bundle threats that range from ransomware to SMS-sending malware, and even spyware designed to clean out the contents of victims’ devices for personal or financial data,” Bitdefender researchers said in a telemetry analysis report shared with The Hacker News. Grid operators turn control centers into campsites to keep coronavirus at bay: With countries across Europe in lockdown to try to contain the virus, gas and power grid operators are scrambling to roll out emergency plans to make sure their control rooms are safe from infection and can keep critical infrastructure running.
Potentially at risk are more than 12 million kilometers (km) of networks, or 31 times the distance to the moon – Europe’s energy nerve center on which hundreds of millions of residential and commercial customers depend. In drastic move, Italy shuts most factories to halt virus: After more than two weeks of a nationwide lockdown, the Italian government decided to expand the mandatory closure of nonessential commercial activities to heavy industry in the eurozone’s third-largest economy, a major exporter of machinery, textiles and other goods.
The move by Italy, which is leading the globe in virus deaths, is more in line with draconian measures taken by China than with declarations coming out of other democratic partners, who are at least a week or two behind Italy’s rate of virus infections. Brexit Hotline

The Spanish government has a hotline to answer all queries from Brits living in Spain about the implications of Brexit, in English. Callers can ring 060 when in Spain or +34 902 887060 if calling from abroad and an automated system will offer the choice of either Spanish or English.
You will then be offered a choice of information on the different issues.
The service also offers the option of speaking to an operator for those requiring further information or with a specific query not dealt with by the automated options. Source: https://www.thelocal.es/20200218/spain-launches-dedicated-brexit-hotline

‘We are collapsing’, Virus pummels medics in Spain and Italy: The coronavirus is waging a war of attrition against health care workers throughout the world, but nowhere is it winning more battles at the moment than in Italy and in Spain, where protective equipment and tests have been in severely short supply for weeks.
Spain’s universal health care system is a source of national pride and often hailed as a reason for its citizens’ legendary longevity, but the outbreak is exposing its shortcomings, some of which are the result of years of budget cuts.
The country’s hospitals are groaning under the weight of the pandemic: Video and photos from two hospitals in the Spanish capital showed patients, many hooked up to oxygen tanks, crowding corridors and emergency rooms. At the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, patients could be seen on the floor as they waited for a bed in recent days. The hospital says the patients have since been accommodated elsewhere.
On Wednesday, the number of medical personnel infected was nearly 6,500 nationally, health authorities said, representing 13.6% of the country’s 47,600 total cases and about 1% of the health system’s workforce. At least three health care workers have died.
“We are collapsing. We need more workers,” said Lidia Perera, a nurse who works with Núñez at Madrid’s Hospital de la Paz, which has 1,000 beds.
This week, 11 of the hospital’s 14 floors are devoted to caring for those suffering from COVID-19, and there is still not enough room: The patients with less serious cases of the disease are being put in the hospital’s gym or in a large tent outside.
“If you had told me three months ago that I would be working in these conditions in Spain, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Perera said, adding that staff at La Paz are only being tested for the virus if they have symptoms. “If they did (regular testing), they might end up without any workers.” Source: https://apnews.com/7ec91dc45d8d7c2ea86b0a97446a303a

Why is the coronavirus killing nearly twice as many men as women in Spain?: Although both sexes are equally likely to be affected by Covid-19, the fatality rate is higher among male patients, according to a new report from the Carlos III Health Institute. The most common victim is male, above the age of 80 and with previous health conditions – in particular, heart related. Spanish government allows two people to travel in one car – but with strict conditions: The Ministry of Transport has announced two people can travel in one car during ‘State of Alarm’ restrictions – but there are rigid conditions.
Two people can share a private vehicle of up to nine seats, provided the passenger sits in the back, ‘keeping as much distance as possible between the occupants’.
But while the government has relaxed the measures slightly, the reasons for venturing out of the house remain the same, to go to work (which is also subject to conditions), to buy essential food, to go to the bank or the petrol station. The ruling does NOT apply to any leisure or other activity.
The move is outlined in an order from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) published today (Wednesday).
Activities allowed are: to buy food, pharmaceutical products and basic essentials; to visit health establishments; travel to and from place of work or to carry out work; to assist or care for elderly, disabled, minors or dependents and vulnerable people. Also acceptable is travelling to financial and insurance institutions, refuelling at petrol stations and justified ‘unforeseeable circumstances’. Spain publishes list of hotels open for emergency guests during coronavirus lockdown: Only those places that provide long-term stays where guests are self-contained and can meet the general lockdown terms across Spain are allowed to stay open.
However, some hotels will be kept open to help those travellers who find themselves stuck in the country and unable to return to their home country, or those who need to stop somewhere and spend the night on their way home. These selected hotels will above all be available to those who need to accommodation in order to carry out valuable work during the coronavirus crisis, such as maintenance workers and those involved in delivery of essential supplies.
Spain’s government on Wednesday published an exhaustive list of hotels which will remain open. There are over 400 establishments across Spain, located in all regions.

Spain’s National Police Warn Elderly over Stranger Danger: Elderly residents have been told to use extreme caution over unexpected people visiting their homes during Spain’s current lockdown restrictions. The National Police say that they are concerned that criminals may try to take advantage of older members of the community, by calling on them and making false claims about who they are.
They are also worried about phone calls that may be made asking for personal details.
The advice is be vigilant and not to open the door to people who you are not expecting to see, as they might want to get indoors to rob the home or simply con the resident of money. Areas of concern include visits from home delivery companies where a prior appointment has not been made, and people claiming to be health service workers who allegedly offer a Covid-19 test or want to disinfect the property. Other ruses include hawkers of protective gloves and masks allegedly acting on behalf of the local council or medical centre. The police have also warned that some criminals may even look to sell ‘magical cures’ for the coronavirus.
As for unexpected phone calls, residents have been reminded that they should under no circumstances give their personal details like bank account numbers. Source: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/03/25/spains-national-police-warn-elderly-over-stranger-danger/

TrickBot Android Mobile App Bypasses 2-Factor Authentication for Net Banking Services: A new Android app has been discovered that can intercept one-time authorization codes sent to Internet banking customers via SMS or relatively more secure push notifications, and complete fraudulent transactions. Push notification are an automated message sent by an application to a user when the application is not open. While pop-ups appear only when audiences are on the site they belong to, push messages are independent of sites.
When the malware is run, it exfiltrates a wide range of information, including
-Personal device information
-SMS messages
-Recording targeted applications for a one-time password (TAN)
-Photos
To avoid raising suspicion when stealing codes, it activates the lock screen, thereby preventing users from accessing their devices. Specifically, it uses a fake Android update screen to mask its OTP-stealing operations.
And lastly, it comes with self-destruction and removal functions, which allows the cybercrime gang behind TrickMo to remove all traces of the malware’s presence from a device after a successful operation.
“The TrickBot trojan was one of the most active banking malware strains in the cybercrime arena in 2019,” IBM researchers concluded. App developers are working on a solution. In the mean time, closely examine your bank statements for errors.

Help from Ayuntamiento Torrox, with List of Open Services: Normally I would not publish a poster in Spanish, without an accompanying text in English. However, in this case I am making an exception. Are You Cheating on the Lockdown? You are not fooling the gov’t!: Remember, your smartphone tracks and logs all your travels. Your posts on social media have been harvested for advertising. They’ve been taken to build up a massive facial recognition database. Now that same data could be used by companies and governments to help maintain quarantines during the coronavirus outbreak.
Ghost Data, a research group in Italy and the US, collected more than half a million Instagram posts in March, targeting regions in Italy where residents were supposed to be on lockdown. It provided those images and videos to LogoGrab, an image recognition company that can automatically identify people and places. The company found at least 33,120 people violated Italy’s quarantine orders.
Government actions that would be considered privacy concerns in normal circumstances are becoming acceptable during the pandemic. Privacy commissioners around the world have said they are lifting restrictions on data protection standards, citing emergency circumstances and saving lives as a priority. (And you know once a change is accepted there is no going back. Your smartphone is now in full user tracker mode for Big Brother. How long before Artificial Intellegence analyses all your travels and mails you fines for travel violations with absolutely no human review? -Ed) Full article: https://www.cnet.com/news/governments-could-track-covid-19-lockdowns-through-social-media-posts/

Home-bound users fume as video apps do not sync with TVs: Some apps are incompatible with Chromecast. As stay-at-home orders push workouts, concerts and even happy hours online, Volpe and other consumers are finding that some of the most popular services do not work with products from rivals. Apps with surging demand for live streaming such as Zoom Video Communications Inc and Facebook Inc’s Instagram are among major holdouts in adopting the phone-to-TV casting technology from Alphabet Inc’s Google. Others lacking Chromecast support include Apple Inc’s Apple TV+ subscription video service, Twitter Inc’s video offering and Bytedance’s video entertainment app TikTok. Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga:
We are locked down and are following the legal requirements so we are closed to the public during this Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic.  We are authorised to ship via Correos but will only be doing it one day a week – Monday for as long as they are open. We are offering free shipping in Spain for any order over 50 plants.  We have had a lot of interest from people looking for something to do while in quarantine.  Thankfully some of us can still work in our private gardens.  We do have plants available for shipment on Monday. Everyone stay safe, this will eventually pass.
We have Lemon Grass, it’s great for cooking Thai cuisine or simply used in plain old chicken soup.
We now have Moringa trees available. See the photo below.
We have Vetiver in trays of 18 plants that are 3-4 months old.

Precautionary Principle Prevails! 3-Year Moratorium on 5G AND 4G Deployment in Geneva, Switzerland : Worldwide opposition to 5G technology continues to increase and for a variety of valid reasons including biological and environmental risks. The Geneva action was reported in “Three-year moratorium on 4G + and 5G in Geneva” which states, “the moratorium adopted Thursday evening also aims to respond to the growing concern of the population” and quotes deputy Green Jean Rossiaud, “The precautionary principle prevails in view of the absence of independent studies on the effects of this technology on health and biodiversity.” Source: https://ehtrust.org/three-year-moratorium-on-4g-5g-in-geneva-switzerland/

Spain’s Home Office Reports that a Cyber Virus is Attempting to ‘Break the Medical System’ as Spain’s Lockdown Means Less Crime on the Streets but More Crime Online: The police forces in charge have alerted of a new type of online virus which is reaching medical staff via e-mail, trying to corrupt and ‘to break the entire medical software system.’ The deputy operational director of the police, Jose Angel Gonzalez, explained that there has been a significant increase in “dangerous and malicious” cyber-attacks.
However, medical staff are not the only victims of these cyber crimes. There have been more than 200 online hoaxes identified ‘which aim to provoke fear and panic within the population’ in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. There have also been videos circulating around social media of an alleged riot in a prison, which was in fact an Italian prison, not a Spanish one. This kind of content is usefully misleading and tries to cause fear and panic amongst the population. Another hoax was a voice note which said supermarkets would soon close and scared individuals into stockpiling goods. There have also been large-scale phishing e-mails, which try to steal sensitive information like passwords.

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #80 24Mar20 + Repair Info:
-I suggest everyone using Windows make a System Restore Point now. If you run into computer problems during the lockdown it may allow you to recover and continue using your computer. Apple Users should do a System Backup for the same reason. Linux users should also do a System Backup (if this is your 1st time running a Linux backup, do not check the “encrypt the backup”box, it just adds another possible problem to the situation).
-Internet providers and content providers have slowed down their servers to compensate for all the people online. If you are having new buffering problems in Windows while watching online content, try this.
Open Control Panel, open System, Click on Advanced System Settings. Be sure you are in the Advanced tab, then click Settings in the Performance box. Make sure you are in the Visual Effects tab, then change the setting to “Adjust For Best Performance”. Then click Apply, then click OK. Now restart. Your streaming videos may play better now. Some text may appear slightly less clear now, that’s a trade off you’ll need to consider. It’s easy enough to change back to the original settings when you are done watching videos.

-If anyone has a laptop that needs extensive work, like a full refurb or a “dual boot” Windows&Linux setup, and you don’t need it back before the lockdown ends, you can mail me the unit. For newer units it may be wise to insure the package. Email me for mailing address. Be sure to pack it properly and include a note with your computer login password/PIN, name&address&phone number, and email address (not the password for email), as well as the work you want done.
DoctorLaptop, Torrox Costa, Tel 675 993 069, doctorlaptop@protonmail.com.
Include the make, “full model number” (found on bottom or in battery compartment) or Serial Number and version of your operating system when emailing for support.

Regarding EARN IT Internet Privacy Article: I just want to comment on the EARN IT article that was included in the DigameXtra issue of Monday the 23rd March.
How frightening this, (EARN IT), is! Big Brother and 1984 finally catch up with us.
No encryption for any message sent over the Internet to allow the U.S. government to scan and spy on everyone. This would leave all of us open to criminal elements. (Very worrying).
I worry that legislation of this kind will be slipped through on the quiet during the unprecedented Corvid-19 crisis that the world is suffering at present.
(Keep safe everyone in DigameXtra land).
Thank you, Naythan, for keeping us informed.
Regards, Keith, (keithrocksue AT gmail DOT com) Torre del Mar

This figure is down from the 60 and 63 new cases registered on the previous two days respectively. One new death in the province was reported on Sunday, a 65-year-old man, taking the official total up to 21. However SUR learned of three more deaths on Sunday, taking the total to at least 24. No further deaths were reported in Malaga on Monday.

Coronavirus patients spotted lying on floor at overrun Madrid hospital: Chilling scenes have emerged from hospitals in Madrid, Spain, that have been overrun by coronavirus patients — showing some sprawled out over the floor. Several patients have spent as many as three days sitting in the ER waiting room to await beds that only become available when those admitted either die or recover and are sent home. UK THREE WEEK HOUSE ARREST- Boris orders coronavirus-hit Brits to stay home unless they have one of four reasons – or be FINED: Anyone who flouts the new crackdown will face fines of up to £1,000 or even arrest when cops are given emergency powers.
The draconian measures which will change every aspect of Brits’ lives included:
-All gatherings of more than two people in public were forbidden – meaning a ban on all social events, including weddings and baptisms.
-Tens of thousands of non-essential shops were ordered to close.
-Communal play and exercise areas inside parks will also be shut down, but not parks themselves.
-Places of worship such as churches and mosques must also shut, except to host for funerals
-Travel on roads, trains and buses was also banned, unless it’s essential to get to work.
-We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra!

Car boot sale cancelled: Restaurante El Pantano, Lake La Vinuela, km 30 on the A356 towards Colmenar.
Due to the outbreak of coronavirus and the measures the Spanish Government are taking will you please note that our carboot which was to be held on 5th April is now cancelled. As very little will be known whether lockdown continues after the 12th April, stallholders and public wishing to attend May’s market are asked to telephone me on 619 471 301 later in April for an update.
Naythan, thank you so very much for all the information re the virus you are giving your readers which is so appreciated. Also for giving the update on the virus in the Andalusian region as the Spanish 24 hour news channel does not break it down into regions so it is hard to establish how affected we are here.

Recommendations & Requests

(Note, I have no way to confirm this one. -Ed.)
Open: For those who are missing rummaging through the Chinese bazaars the old Gran Euro opposite Plaza Cantarero on San Miguel, Nerja, is still open! It turned into a supermarket with food and booze so it’s covered. Ideal if you’re doing diy jobs during lockdown and need something. Cheers, Andy, Frigiliana, andyjchapman 09 @ gmail . com (no spaces)

Info Request: There are a few things I am not sure about in these feelbad times.
If you should need an electrician or a plumber urgently, what are you supposed to do? Or if you wanted to take your computer to Naythan? Friends were in this situation at the weekend, offices were shut and nobody would (or was allowed) to come out and help them.
I think I heard that the buses were for workers only, is that correct? There is nobody on them. And what about taxis, are they grounded? If this goes on much longer I may need to get to Torrox Costa, my husband cannot give me a lift (2 people in a car). Could I take a taxi or not? (If you forward your replies to DigameXtra, please include a link to the source of the info. While well intentioned, anecdotal info is unreliable as circumstances change and enforcement varies. Print info from a gov’t agency is verifiable, more reliable and keeps me from being accused of spreading rumours. -Ed)

Thanks for Alert Update: A big thanks again to Naythan for todays Digamextra addendum with news of the “Lockdown” extension. Bang up-to-date as always.

Renewing prescriptions: Hi Nathan, can I add my thanks to those of everyone else for all your help in these difficult times.
I have been trying all weekend to reach the health service line to renew our prescriptions with no success. I have heard a lot of Vivaldi’s four seasons while on hold and at other times just been told they are too busy to answer and cut off.
The spanish is very fast but Option 2 is a new appointment with your family doctor, option 3 is coronavirus reporting.
Option 1 said something about appointments and administrative so I tried that and was asked to enter my health card number and year of birth, then told in fast spanish something about ‘citas’ and cut off.
So I think holding is the right way, but, as I said, no-one is answering.
BTW I have a digital certificate so maximum online access and there is, as yet, no option to renew online.
Anyone being more successful than me?

Of these, 169 are hospitalised and 315 remain in quarantine at home. There was also one death, taking the city’s total coronavirus death toll to 23.

Around 210 new cases were recorded on Sunday, compared to 228 on Saturday and 279 on Friday. However, it’s too early to talk of ‘the curve flattening’ yet, cautions Spain’s Ministry of Health, as once the rapid coronavirus detection tests arrive in the next few days, there is the possibility that we’ll see numbers go up again. https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/03/23/coronavirus-cases-in-spains-costa-del-sol-continue-to-surge-albeit-at-a-slightly-lower-rate/

Here is a disturbing document from The Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M): SPI-M gives expert advice to the Department of Health and Social Care and wider UK government on scientific matters relating to the UK’s response to an influenza pandemic (or other emerging human infectious disease threats). The advice is based on infectious disease modelling and epidemiology. Pay attention to #4.(https://www.gov.uk/government/groups/scientific-pandemic-influenza-subgroup-on-modelling)
SPI-M-O: Consensus view on behavioural and social interventions
Date: 16th March 2020.
1. It was agreed that a combination of case isolation, household isolation and social
distancing of vulnerable groups is very unlikely to prevent critical care facilities being overwhelmed.
2. It was agreed that it is unclear whether or not the addition of general social distancing measures to case isolation, household isolation and social distancing of vulnerable groups would curtail the epidemic by reducing the reproduction number to less than 1.
3. It was agreed that the addition of both general social distancing and school closures to case isolation, household isolation and social distancing of vulnerable groups would be likely to control the epidemic when kept in place for a long period. SPI-M-O agreed that this strategy should be followed as soon as practical, at least in the first instance.
4. It was agreed that a policy of alternating between periods of more and less strict social distancing measures could plausibly be effective at keeping the number of critical care cases within capacity. These would need to be in place for at least most of a year. Under such as policy, at least half of the year would be spent under the stricter social distancing measures.
5. The triggers for measures to be enacted and lifted could be set at a level of UK nations and regions. The duration of control periods would be less important than the extent to which contacts are reduced. There would be a 2-3 week delay between measures being put into place and their impact being felt in ICU.

Why is the virus called “Novel Corona”? : The name is derived from the Latin word corona, meaning crown. Under electron microscopy, the virus appears crown-like due to small bulbar projections formed by the viral spike. This virus has been known only since last December. The family of the virus has been identified since the 1960s but this strain of the virus has been discovered for the first time in 2019, hence it is called the 2019 novel coronavirus. New subtypes or new viruses discovered are called novel. These may form as a result from mutation of already known viruses.

From the “Never Let A Crisis Go To Waste” File:
Article by The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).
The U.S. EARN IT Bill Is the Government’s Plan to Scan Every Message Online.
Imagine an Internet where the law required every message sent to be read by government-approved scanning software. Companies that handle such messages wouldn’t be allowed to securely encrypt them, or they’d lose legal protections that allow them to operate.
That’s what the Senate Judiciary Committee has proposed and hopes to pass into law. The so-called EARN IT bill will strip protections away from any website that doesn’t follow a list of “best practices,” meaning those sites can be sued into bankruptcy. The “best practices” list will be created by a government commission, headed by Attorney General Barr, who has made it very clear he would like to ban encryption, and guarantee law enforcement “legal access” to any digital message.
You can’t have an Internet where messages are screened en masse, and also have end-to-end encryption any more than you can create backdoors that can only be used by the good guys. The two are mutually exclusive. Concepts like “client-side scanning” aren’t a clever route around this; such scanning is just another way to break end-to-end encryption. Either the message remains private to everyone but its recipients, or it’s available to others.
Barr has made clear, over and over again, that breaking encryption is at the top of that wish list. Once it’s broken, regimes around the world will rejoice, as they gain the ability to add their own types of mandatory scanning, not just for child sexual abuse material but for self-expression that those governments want to suppress.

Facebook’s new design turns your PC into an enormous phone: Once you switch to the new Facebook layout, the first overwhelming impression is one of supreme embiggenment. The text sizes are larger, the elements are more widely spaced, and very little fits on the screen at once.
The Stories banner is, thankfully, less obnoxiously huge than it was on the old layout. That’s a matter of sheer necessity, unfortunately; it has to be smaller in order to fit even half of a post underneath it on the new scale of things. I was unable to find a single pair of posts on my timeline that would fit on one page under the new layout—and at least half of them were at least two pages tall, all by themselves.
The Messenger functionality is also diminished, with only a single chat visible at any one time. If you click another contact or group on your contacts list, your current chat disappears, to be replaced with the new one.
The Good
-Now with dark mode!
-The notifications list is much better pinned to the far right instead of occupying roughly the third-fifth from the left
-Switching to the new layout and back again is instantaneous and easy
-Within the new layout, switching dark mode on and off again is equally quick and easy
The Bad
-Only one post on the screen at a time. Or less—usually, less
-Only one message on the screen at a time—no matter how high your resolution
The Ugly
-Huge text is huge
-Wasted space is wasted
-The layout itself, basically

These banners do NOT indicate the business is open during the Alarm Period. They are simply promos like a roadside billboard. I see no reason to remove them. By now everyone should know non-essential travel is banned. Call Sponsors for their current status as most, but not all, must be closed. -Ed.
