Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.

Recommendations & Requests
Recommendation Requested from lovely folk in Digame Land:
With Covid I do not want to travel to Specsavers in Fuengirola for an eye test and new spectacles anymore. I am interested in finding a reasonably priced, efficient opticians east of Malaga . It would be especially helpful if they spoke English and were fairly near Torrox .
Has anyone used the opticians near Eroski in El Ingenio? I understand you just walk in without needing an appointment .
Any guidance will be gratefully received .

Covid Test Recommendation Wanted: Could someone recommend a clinic that carry’s out Covid Tests for travel purposes to the UK. Location: Nerja or Torrox.
Apparently the test can be one of the following:
-nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) test.
-an antigen test, such as a text from a lateral flow device.
I need to insure that the test meets the minimum standards for sensitivity, specificity and viral load details.
If someone has had one of the above tests done for travel purposes to the uk, could you please advise the best place to use.

Fakebook Users Pushing False Spanish Covid Info Again: Some FB users are taking Spanish covid info articles from the news, that are explaining “proposed” measures, and posting the info as “facts”. This is causing many readers to panic under false pretenses. It seems in Spainish newspapers they like to report on events that have not yet happened, they report on anticipated plans or actions as these go thru the legislative process. And yes, they do tend to post misleading headlines that could be misconstrued as inferring an action had been enacted as law, when it had simply been passed thru a committee long before being voted on.
These people posting the inaccurate info all seem to be competing with each other to be first to get out new info, and in their haste are falling for “clickbait” headlines and failing to recognize the difference between proposals and done deals. Beware all Covid info on Fakebook that does not include a link to the source. If there is a source, you must check it for yourself! I imagine these people mean well, but they are doing a serious disservice to the community for the sake of their egos and FB “likes”. Editor.

Spain reports 20,849 new coronavirus cases, adds 535 deaths to official toll over weekend: Spain continues to be on a high level of alert when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. The epidemiological curve is falling, but the 14-day cumulative number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants is still above 250 – the limit considered by the Health Ministry to be one of extreme risk.
In its official report on Monday, the ministry registered 20,849 new infections and added 535 Covid-19 fatalities to the official death toll. These figures cover Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Since the beginning of the month, hospital admissions have fallen by half and there are 28% fewer people in the ICUs. But the stress on healthcare centers continues to be high, with a third of ICU beds currently occupied by Covid-19 patients. Shortage of doses leads to delays in the Covid vaccination of the elderly in health centres: The vaccination of people over 80 years of age who do not live in care homes in the south of Spain will be severely affected this week as the region receives only half of the planned doses from Pfizer.
Some Malaga health centres have had to postpone the vaccination of the elderly and are calling patients to notify them that they will receive the injection on another date, once the supply is normalised next week.
Nursing professionals consulted by SUR have said that they are contacting people who had an appointment from Wednesday onwards to inform them that due to the lack of doses they will not be able to give them the vaccine as scheduled and that they will be inoculated next week if enough vials arrive. Covid vaccine- Under-80s will have to make appointments for coronavirus vaccinations: {Summary translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 23/02/2021 19:45
-Andalusia plans to begin the mass vaccination process in April. At least that is what the central government has told them, since that is when there will be a sufficient number of doses.
-Thus, if everything goes according to plan, by the end of March a large part of the population will have been vaccinated and it will be possible to start with those under 80 years of age. They will be able to do so via the website, a phone call or the mobile app. (More details on doing this will be released closer to the date. -Ed) Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-menores-80-anos-tendran-pedir-cita-cupos-para-vacunarse-contra-coronavirus-andalucia-202102222008_noticia.html
Andalusia extends the restrictions and anti-coronavirus measures until after the February 28 bridge: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 23/02/2021 19:45
-The Junta de Andalucía will extend this Friday for another week, until 4 March, the mobility and activity limitation measures in force in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic on the recommendation of the committee of experts advising the Andalusian government, as announced this Tuesday in Ronda by President Juanma Moreno.
-Moreno announced that the committee of experts will meet on Wednesday 3 March at 18:00 hours to analyse the evolution of the pandemic and to propose the de-escalation measures for the coming weeks, once it has been confirmed that the incidence curve of the third wave of the pandemic has fallen.
-Despite the improvement in health records, the extension has been recommended by the committee of experts to prevent the measures from being relaxed precisely during the Day of Andalusia long weekend in order to avoid outbreaks.
Mobility between provinces
-Therefore, the general restrictions on mobility between provinces, the closure of non-essential shops and hotels at 18:00 hours and the curfew between 22:00 and 6:00 hours will be maintained, as well as the restrictions on inter-municipal mobility in towns with a 14-day incidence rate of more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the total closure of non-essential activity in those with more than 1,000 cases.
-The president of the Junta admitted that he is “madly keen” to restore mobility between provinces and extend the opening hours of economic activity, but recommended caution and heeding the recommendations of the experts to avoid a fourth wave, which is why he said he would be prudent in adopting measures depending on the evolution of the pandemic.

Step by step- how to request the certificate of vaccination against the coronavirus in Andalusia in the three possible ways:
{Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 23/02/2021 18:29
-The Board already has available, for those who want to request it, the “vaccination card” against the coronavirus in Andalusia . Those who have already been vaccinated, when the medical act is registered in the Diraya system, can request a document confirming the immunization and that they can show.
-Not in vain, the Andalusian Government has already warned that those who were vaccinated would have certain advantages in the future. This was indicated by the Andalusian vice president, Juan Marín, who pointed out that although the vaccine is not mandatory, but will be something “totally voluntary”, it is necessary to convey to the public that getting vaccinated will have its advantages when traveling or going to some events, because the Andalusian health system will give every person who is vaccinated a certificate that they are immunized .
-In any case, whoever wants to get the document has three ways.
1. Ask your GP
The patient who has received the two vaccines can ask their doctor for a document that proves it. The doctor may issue a paper certificate containing the applicant’s affiliation data as well as the data on the doses received against the coronavirus.
2. Request through ClicSalud +
This web platform of the Ministry of Health serves, among many other issues, to request medical documentation. So, the first thing is to access the URL of the page. https://www.sspa.juntadeandalucia.es/servicioandaluzdesalud/clicsalud/pages/portada.jsf
The second step is to enter, within the HEALTH section, the area where it says VACCINES.
Later you have to enter one of the options at the top to access the vaccination history. It can be done through electronic certificate or key.
Finally, there appears the vaccination history, where the vaccines against the coronavirus will be seen
3. Request through the web application.
The first thing to do is download the “Salud Andalucía” web application through the app store on your phone or tablet.
Secondly, you can access the section “Obtain your Covid-19 vaccination certificate.”
Finally, the vaccination data is accessed through the password or certificate. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-paso-paso-como-pide-certificado-vacunacion-contra-coronavirus-andalucia-tres-vias-posibles-202102231827_noticia.html
Spain extends travel ban again on arrivals from UK, Brazil and South Africa until mid-March: Spain’s cabinet agreed on Tuesday to extend entry restrictions for travellers from the three nations for another two weeks, Health Minister Carolina Darias told a news conference.

EU tells six countries to lift Covid border restrictions: Brussels has put six EU member states on notice that their tight Covid border restrictions, including exit and entry bans, should be lifted over fears of a wider breakdown in the bloc’s free movement of people and goods.
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary and Sweden have been given 10 days to respond to the European commission’s concerns that they have breached commonly agreed coronavirus guidelines.
Restrictions imposed by Germany at its border with the Austrian Tirol region have been a particular cause of tension in recent weeks, with the German ambassador in Vienna summoned to justify the “unnecessary measures that do more harm than good”. SCORE ONE FOR THE GOOD GUYS! Facebook relents, agrees to restore Australia news AND pay media companies: Facebook said Tuesday it will lift a contentious ban on Australian news and pay local media companies for content, after a last-gasp deal on pending landmark legislation.
Australia’s Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the compromise that will see Google and Facebook plunge tens of millions of dollars into the struggling local news sector.
In return the US digital firms will, for now, avoid being subjected to mandatory payments that could cost them vastly more and create what they see as an alarming global precedent. Canada and France are proposing similar legislation, look for Facebook to be making concessions there as well. Dog escapes from an animal shelter and walks 50 kilometres to look for late owner: Ribero a two-year-old dog, lived on the streets of Guaro after his elderly owner died of natural causes two months ago.
For several weeks he wandered around his old home, where a young man took him food. With the help of volunteers, he was rescued and taken to an animal protection shelter in the La Virreina area of Malaga city.
But his stay was short-lived. He was taken in on 5 February but just two days later Ribero had escaped after jumping a two-metre-high fence.
What no one could imagine is that Ribero would appear back at his old home eleven days later on 18 February.
He had travelled around 50 kilometres, crossing busy motorways and roads, until he reached the same place where he was first found.
“In the villages there are many animals that are used to entering and leaving the houses freely, but when the owner died, our first intention was to rescue him and find him a home,” explained Carmen Manzano, president of the animal association.
Given the circumstances, however, the charity has changed its strategy with Ribero. “Since he is safe there, the youth who was taking care of him will continue to do so, so that he will gain confidence, because it is clear that he won’t get used to the shelter.” Photo:SUR. Doing Other Tasks During a Video Call? Experts Find a Way to Learn What You’re Typing During Video Calls: A new attack framework aims to infer keystrokes typed by a target user at the opposite end of a video conference call by simply leveraging the video feed to correlate observable body movements to the text being typed.
(Thus it will soon be no longer safe to do secure typing tasks, like making a purchase with a credit card, while on a video call, as snoops and big tech will be monitoring your every keystroke. Any entrepreneurs out there may want to consider marketing a garment that obscures the hands and body movements of video chat users who like to multi-task.
