Update 4 of the Spanish COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy published Friday by El Ministerio de Sanidad: {Translated from mscbs.gob.es}
26 February 2021 – The Ministry of Health has just published Update 4 of the “Vaccination Strategy against COVID-19 in Spain” following the agreement reached by the Public Health Commission, in which all the autonomous communities are also represented.
-This Update includes, as a novelty compared to Update 3 , the following groups to be vaccinated with mRNA: people aged 70 to 79 years (group 5B), 60 to 69 (group 5C), those aged under 60 with high risk conditions of severe COVID-19 (group 7) and those aged between 56 and 59 (group 8). The definition of these groups has been made in anticipation of a greater availability of vaccine doses in the second quarter of the year.
-In addition, the document specifies that with AstraZeneca’s vaccines, once the vaccination of key societal groups prioritised in Update 3 has been completed, it will be administered to people aged 45-55 years (group 9).
*Persons with previous infection*
-The Update also includes recommendations for vaccination of persons with previous coronavirus infection, both asymptomatic and symptomatic. Following a review of existing clinical studies, it is recommended that persons over 55 years of age with diagnosed infection who have received the first dose should be inoculated with the second dose when they are fully recovered and the isolation period has ended.
-In persons under 55 years of age who have been symptomatically or asymptomatically infected, only one dose of vaccine should be administered six months after infection.
-It should be noted that serological testing is not required before or after these vaccinations.
*Age, the main risk factor*
-The document recalls that the main risk factor for hospitalisation and death from COVID-19 is age over 60 years and that it increases with increasing age. Therefore, it stresses that based on the principles of necessity and equity, vaccination of older people who are not institutionalised should be started as soon as possible.
-Update 4 also stresses that it is essential to consider the principle of solidarity so that vaccines with proven efficacy in older age groups reach these people, bearing in mind that all vaccines available in Spain are safe and effective.

February closes as the month with the most covid-19 deaths reported since April, 10,823: {Translated from elpais.com}
-The Ministry of Health reported 10,823 deaths from covid-19 in February, the highest number of reported coronavirus deaths since April. On the last day, it added 329 deaths to the official statistics. It also reported 8,341 new infections.
-On the other hand, the ministry has updated the vaccination strategy, with new priorities for immunising people from 45 years of age. It establishes that people who have passed the infection and are under 55 will receive a single dose of the vaccine six months after diagnosis. In addition, the new strategy states that once everyone over the age of 60 has been vaccinated, they will start with those under this age with illnesses that make them more vulnerable to the virus.
-The European Medicines Agency is expected to approve Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine on 11 March, according to Bloomberg, so it could join vials from Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca in the battle for immunisation in the European Union. The president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, has defended the “health passport” that the European Union wants to implement on Friday. “The aim is to restore normality and tourism without increasing health risks,” Sánchez stressed. DigameXtra sends out over 4175 email issues everyday to subscribers, and the website gets another 800 visits per day. That is way better exposure than you are getting in any FB posts!!! Entertainers get to post their shows for free as long as they are subscribed to this newsletter. What are you waiting for?

Covid incidence rates continue to decline towards a “medium” risk level in Andalusia: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 25/02/2021, 18:59
-Andalusia has reported 1,256 new cases of coronavirus infection on Thursday, a slightly lower figure than on Wednesday and much lower than the 1,803 positives recorded a week ago.
-The number of deaths is also down to 58, a figure lower than the last two days.
-The cumulative incidence rate for 14 days has fallen to 215 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants and there are now three provinces with rates below 200 cases: Cordoba (149), Huelva (158) and Jaen (166). The 7-day rate drops to 73 cases, indicating that the level of risk is reduced to “medium”.
-In hospitals, the situation is improving for another day. The number of people admitted to hospital due to the coronavirus has fallen by 121, bringing the total number of hospitalised patients to 2,087, a far cry from the 4,980 admitted just a month ago, the peak of the third wave.
-In the ICU there has also been a sharp drop in the number of patients admitted. This Thursday there are 503, 35 less than yesterday and 31 percent less than at the peak of this wave, which occurred a fortnight ago, with 735 patients in intensive care. Local police in Spain ask not to be jabbed with the AstraZeneca vaccine: An association representing more than 100,000 local and regional police across Spain has asked the national government to suspend the vaccination of officers against the coronavirus with the AstraZeneca formula.
-The Confederation of Local and Regional Security Forces claims that it is the vaccine that gives the least protection of all those on the market and, in addition, the association claims that it is causing numerous side effects among the people who receive it.
-The organisation cites the example in France, where they have had to suspend vaccination among the risk group of police and health workers due to side effects including very strong flu-like symptoms, headaches and high fevers.
-Additionally, the group points out that in Spain the AstraZeneca vaccine is not recommended for people over 55 years of age – which leaves a large part of the membership they represent out of the vaccination scheme.
-The Generalitat of Catalonia began to administer the vaccine a few weeks ago to the Mossos de Escuadra regional police force and it has reported similar side effects to those experienced by officers in France.
-The campaign has now been stalled while vaccines from other manufacturers are being sourced. Source: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202102/25/local-police-spain-jabbed-20210225100536.html

How will foreigners in Spain with private health insurance get contacted for the Covid-19 vaccine?: “All those living in Spain will be able to receive the vaccination against the virus as the campaign unrolls. Vaccination is universal, it includes all people,” insisted a Health Ministry spokesman.
But Spain’s vaccine supplies are only in the hands of the public health system and not private health suppliers, which leads to the question, how will Spain’s Health Department know of my existence and contact me if I’m not on public health records?

UK’s Covid alert level is lowered as NHS no longer at threat of being overwhelmed: The threat level was lowered from the highest ‘level 5’ to ‘level 4’ after all four UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and the NHS England National Medical Director confirmed that the number of hospital patients was “consistently” declining.
The change is important because decreasing hospitalisations so that the NHS is not overwhelmed is one of Boris Johnson’s four tests which must be met before lockdown can be eased.

High Court Orders UK ISPs to Block Stream-Ripping (Downloaders) & Cyberlocker Sites: The full decision is yet to be published but according to a statement by the BPI, the High Court ruled that the operators and users of several ripping-related websites use the services of the ISPs to download copyrighted music in breach of copyright. As a result, the ISPs are required to block access to them, as they have done following many similar actions against regular torrent and streaming sites. Full article:

Tennis News- Citing bad back, Rafael Nadal out of Rotterdam tournament: The second-ranked Nadal would have been seeded No. 1 in Rotterdam. Instead, third-ranked Daniil Medvedev, the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, will take the top spot in the seedings.
If Medvedev reaches the final in Rotterdam, he would replace Nadal at No. 2 in the rankings, according to the ATP Tour. That would allow Medvedev then to become the first man other than Nadal, Djokovic, Roger Federer or Andy Murray to be in the ATP’s Top 2 since Lleyton Hewitt was second to Federer in July 2005. News Note: Many of the local online news outlets are leaving old articles on their front pages, with outdated info and restriction maps. For example, Sur’s front page article regarding “current restrictions” has a map that says Torrox is still in Level 4, when all official sources say it is Level 3. I have no idea why they are leaving old info on their front pages, so if you see info in any online news source I strongly suggest you check the date it was published, and also verify it on the Junta de Andalucia’s official website (https://www.mapacovid.es/). -Ed.

Andalusia comes out of the “extreme risk” due to coronavirus after falling from 250 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 02/24/2021 17:57
-Andalusia is now out of the extreme risk zone for coronavirus after dropping below 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The incidence rate of the pandemic, which serves to measure the speed and severity of transmission of the virus, has fallen in the community from more than 950 points that marked after Christmas to 235 that scores this Wednesday.
-This 75% drop has taken Andalusia out of the highest risk zone and into the high-risk zone. But the outlook is good, given that the seven-day incidence rate – which measures the last week – is only 78 points, which augurs a beginning of March with falling figures.
-Infections, moreover, continue to fall. Andalusia recorded 1,311 cases on Wednesday, the best figure for this day since last December. Although on Monday and Tuesday the number of positive cases did not exceed 650, these are days when fewer cases than average are usually recorded.
-Therefore, Wednesday is usually used to gauge the real level of infection in Andalusia. If the community remains around that figure for the rest of the week, below 1,500, it will be confirmation that the third wave continues its downward trend, given that seven days ago the average was around 2,000 cases and the previous week, around 3,000.
-In the case of deaths, the figures are still high – 93 deaths have been added today – but lower than at the peak. A couple of weeks ago, Andalusia was adding up the number of deaths from the coronavirus by the hundred, something that has not been repeated. The region, which has been close to 100 cases for two days now, has seen a slight drop in the number of deaths, a trend that is expected to continue given the drop in the number of cases in the region in recent days.
-Meanwhile, the pressure on hospitals continues to fall. Since yesterday, the number of Andalusians hospitalised for coronavirus has fallen by 144, bringing the total to 2,208, the lowest figure since mid-January. So far this month the number of hospitalised patients has halved in the community.
-There is also good news in the ICU. From 735 patients at the peak of the third wave on 7 February, the number has now fallen to 538, 26 percent less. Why Spain’s self-employed are set to receive much better pensions: One of the benefits of the recently announced tax hike for self-employed workers in Spain is that they will finally receive the same monthly pension as contracted employees.
Fortunately, one of the main downsides of being autónomo in Spain is now set to be resolved as a result of the government’s recent changes to the contributions for this group of workers.
In return for paying €144.49 more a month to Spain’s social security system on their net income, they will receive €377.92 more per month in their future pensions.
But it does mean that if they contribute (cotizar) on their net earnings, many will go from paying €288.99 a month to €433.48.
The threshold to calculate this are earnings of €1,416.60 a month, which is 1.5 times the current minimum contribution base.
Spain’s social security ministry will adjust the new way of calculating contributions based on self-employed worker’s net earnings (ingresos reales), so some will pay less but most will contribute more. Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.

Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation Requested from lovely folk in Digame Land:
With Covid I do not want to travel to Specsavers in Fuengirola for an eye test and new spectacles anymore. I am interested in finding a reasonably priced, efficient opticians east of Malaga . It would be especially helpful if they spoke English and were fairly near Torrox .
Has anyone used the opticians near Eroski in El Ingenio? I understand you just walk in without needing an appointment .
Any guidance will be gratefully received .

Covid Test Recommendation Wanted: Could someone recommend a clinic that carry’s out Covid Tests for travel purposes to the UK. Location: Nerja or Torrox.
Apparently the test can be one of the following:
-nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) test.
-an antigen test, such as a text from a lateral flow device.
I need to insure that the test meets the minimum standards for sensitivity, specificity and viral load details.
If someone has had one of the above tests done for travel purposes to the uk, could you please advise the best place to use.

Fakebook Users Pushing False Spanish Covid Info Again: Some FB users are taking Spanish covid info articles from the news, that are explaining “proposed” measures, and posting the info as “facts”. This is causing many readers to panic under false pretenses. It seems in Spainish newspapers they like to report on events that have not yet happened, they report on anticipated plans or actions as these go thru the legislative process. And yes, they do tend to post misleading headlines that could be misconstrued as inferring an action had been enacted as law, when it had simply been passed thru a committee long before being voted on.
These people posting the inaccurate info all seem to be competing with each other to be first to get out new info, and in their haste are falling for “clickbait” headlines and failing to recognize the difference between proposals and done deals. Beware all Covid info on Fakebook that does not include a link to the source. If there is a source, you must check it for yourself! I imagine these people mean well, but they are doing a serious disservice to the community for the sake of their egos and FB “likes”. Editor.

Spain reports 20,849 new coronavirus cases, adds 535 deaths to official toll over weekend: Spain continues to be on a high level of alert when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. The epidemiological curve is falling, but the 14-day cumulative number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants is still above 250 – the limit considered by the Health Ministry to be one of extreme risk.
In its official report on Monday, the ministry registered 20,849 new infections and added 535 Covid-19 fatalities to the official death toll. These figures cover Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Since the beginning of the month, hospital admissions have fallen by half and there are 28% fewer people in the ICUs. But the stress on healthcare centers continues to be high, with a third of ICU beds currently occupied by Covid-19 patients. Shortage of doses leads to delays in the Covid vaccination of the elderly in health centres: The vaccination of people over 80 years of age who do not live in care homes in the south of Spain will be severely affected this week as the region receives only half of the planned doses from Pfizer.
Some Malaga health centres have had to postpone the vaccination of the elderly and are calling patients to notify them that they will receive the injection on another date, once the supply is normalised next week.
Nursing professionals consulted by SUR have said that they are contacting people who had an appointment from Wednesday onwards to inform them that due to the lack of doses they will not be able to give them the vaccine as scheduled and that they will be inoculated next week if enough vials arrive. Covid vaccine- Under-80s will have to make appointments for coronavirus vaccinations: {Summary translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 23/02/2021 19:45
-Andalusia plans to begin the mass vaccination process in April. At least that is what the central government has told them, since that is when there will be a sufficient number of doses.
-Thus, if everything goes according to plan, by the end of March a large part of the population will have been vaccinated and it will be possible to start with those under 80 years of age. They will be able to do so via the website, a phone call or the mobile app. (More details on doing this will be released closer to the date. -Ed) Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-menores-80-anos-tendran-pedir-cita-cupos-para-vacunarse-contra-coronavirus-andalucia-202102222008_noticia.html

Andalusia extends the restrictions and anti-coronavirus measures until after the February 28 bridge: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 23/02/2021 19:45
-The Junta de Andalucía will extend this Friday for another week, until 4 March, the mobility and activity limitation measures in force in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic on the recommendation of the committee of experts advising the Andalusian government, as announced this Tuesday in Ronda by President Juanma Moreno.
-Moreno announced that the committee of experts will meet on Wednesday 3 March at 18:00 hours to analyse the evolution of the pandemic and to propose the de-escalation measures for the coming weeks, once it has been confirmed that the incidence curve of the third wave of the pandemic has fallen.
-Despite the improvement in health records, the extension has been recommended by the committee of experts to prevent the measures from being relaxed precisely during the Day of Andalusia long weekend in order to avoid outbreaks.

-Therefore, the general restrictions on mobility between provinces, the closure of non-essential shops and hotels at 18:00 hours and the curfew between 22:00 and 6:00 hours will be maintained, as well as the restrictions on inter-municipal mobility in towns with a 14-day incidence rate of more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the total closure of non-essential activity in those with more than 1,000 cases.
-The president of the Junta admitted that he is “madly keen” to restore mobility between provinces and extend the opening hours of economic activity, but recommended caution and heeding the recommendations of the experts to avoid a fourth wave, which is why he said he would be prudent in adopting measures depending on the evolution of the pandemic.

Step by step- how to request the certificate of vaccination against the coronavirus in Andalusia in the three possible ways:
{Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 23/02/2021 18:29
-The Board already has available, for those who want to request it, the “vaccination card” against the coronavirus in Andalusia . Those who have already been vaccinated, when the medical act is registered in the Diraya system, can request a document confirming the immunization and that they can show.
-Not in vain, the Andalusian Government has already warned that those who were vaccinated would have certain advantages in the future. This was indicated by the Andalusian vice president, Juan Marín, who pointed out that although the vaccine is not mandatory, but will be something “totally voluntary”, it is necessary to convey to the public that getting vaccinated will have its advantages when traveling or going to some events, because the Andalusian health system will give every person who is vaccinated a certificate that they are immunized .
-In any case, whoever wants to get the document has three ways.
1. Ask your GP
The patient who has received the two vaccines can ask their doctor for a document that proves it. The doctor may issue a paper certificate containing the applicant’s affiliation data as well as the data on the doses received against the coronavirus.
2. Request through ClicSalud +
This web platform of the Ministry of Health serves, among many other issues, to request medical documentation. So, the first thing is to access the URL of the page. https://www.sspa.juntadeandalucia.es/servicioandaluzdesalud/clicsalud/pages/portada.jsf
The second step is to enter, within the HEALTH section, the area where it says VACCINES.
Later you have to enter one of the options at the top to access the vaccination history. It can be done through electronic certificate or key.
Finally, there appears the vaccination history, where the vaccines against the coronavirus will be seen
3. Request through the web application.
The first thing to do is download the “Salud Andalucía” web application through the app store on your phone or tablet.
Secondly, you can access the section “Obtain your Covid-19 vaccination certificate.”
Finally, the vaccination data is accessed through the password or certificate. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-paso-paso-como-pide-certificado-vacunacion-contra-coronavirus-andalucia-tres-vias-posibles-202102231827_noticia.html

EU tells six countries to lift Covid border restrictions: Brussels has put six EU member states on notice that their tight Covid border restrictions, including exit and entry bans, should be lifted over fears of a wider breakdown in the bloc’s free movement of people and goods.
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary and Sweden have been given 10 days to respond to the European commission’s concerns that they have breached commonly agreed coronavirus guidelines.
Restrictions imposed by Germany at its border with the Austrian Tirol region have been a particular cause of tension in recent weeks, with the German ambassador in Vienna summoned to justify the “unnecessary measures that do more harm than good”. SCORE ONE FOR THE GOOD GUYS! Facebook relents, agrees to restore Australia news AND pay media companies: Facebook said Tuesday it will lift a contentious ban on Australian news and pay local media companies for content, after a last-gasp deal on pending landmark legislation.
Australia’s Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the compromise that will see Google and Facebook plunge tens of millions of dollars into the struggling local news sector.
In return the US digital firms will, for now, avoid being subjected to mandatory payments that could cost them vastly more and create what they see as an alarming global precedent. Canada and France are proposing similar legislation, look for Facebook to be making concessions there as well. Dog escapes from an animal shelter and walks 50 kilometres to look for late owner: Ribero a two-year-old dog, lived on the streets of Guaro after his elderly owner died of natural causes two months ago.
For several weeks he wandered around his old home, where a young man took him food. With the help of volunteers, he was rescued and taken to an animal protection shelter in the La Virreina area of Malaga city.
But his stay was short-lived. He was taken in on 5 February but just two days later Ribero had escaped after jumping a two-metre-high fence.
What no one could imagine is that Ribero would appear back at his old home eleven days later on 18 February.
He had travelled around 50 kilometres, crossing busy motorways and roads, until he reached the same place where he was first found.
“In the villages there are many animals that are used to entering and leaving the houses freely, but when the owner died, our first intention was to rescue him and find him a home,” explained Carmen Manzano, president of the animal association.
Given the circumstances, however, the charity has changed its strategy with Ribero. “Since he is safe there, the youth who was taking care of him will continue to do so, so that he will gain confidence, because it is clear that he won’t get used to the shelter.” Photo:SUR. Doing Other Tasks During a Video Call? Experts Find a Way to Learn What You’re Typing During Video Calls: A new attack framework aims to infer keystrokes typed by a target user at the opposite end of a video conference call by simply leveraging the video feed to correlate observable body movements to the text being typed.
(Thus it will soon be no longer safe to do secure typing tasks, like making a purchase with a credit card, while on a video call, as snoops and big tech will be monitoring your every keystroke. Any entrepreneurs out there may want to consider marketing a garment that obscures the hands and body movements of video chat users who like to multi-task. If it catches on you’ll make a fortune! -Ed.)

No date for mass vaccination against the coronavirus in Andalusia: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 22/02/2021 12:37
-The Minister of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, Jesús Aguirre, has clarified that there is no date for mass vaccination, although he foresees the vaccination of 50% of the population before summer if sufficient doses arrive in the autonomous community. To achieve this, the regional administration puts pressure on the government, so that it in turn puts pressure on Brussels.
-The logistics (personnel, space, mobile vaccination units, lists …) are prepared, as clarified by the counselor, for whom the objective of vaccinating half a million people a week starting in April is linked to the fact that the pharmaceutical companies send Andalusia the doses you need from April. Aguirre does not rule it out: “That is the hope we have.”
-The number of Andalusians vaccinated with the two doses amounts to 215,021, which represents 2.53% of the total. The percentage is still very low and the region is still at extreme risk, with 288 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, so that, although it means a substantial decrease in infections, the counselor has insisted on his request for caution to the population.
-Aguirre has stated that it is necessary to vaccinate half a million Andalusians weekly to arrive at summer with peace of mind. For now, vaccination is focused on those over 80 years old, an age segment that has almost unanimously accepted vaccination, since only 0.7% have rejected it , as reported by the counselor.
-The vaccination of teachers has also begun , as well as that of members of the State security forces and home help workers in Andalusia as a whole, which will increase the percentage of inhabitants with antibodies, a decisive factor for further reduce the number of infections.
-The number of infected with coronavirus that remains in Andalusian hospitals has stabilized. From Sunday to today, Monday, there have only been 5 new admissions, reaching 2,338 hospitalized, of which 564 remain in intensive care units, as reported by the counselor during a visit to a health center in Jaén. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/jaen/sevi-coronavirus-andalucia-sin-fecha-para-vacunacion-masiva-contra-coronavirus-andalucia-202102221225_noticia.html

Five Malaga towns will host Covid-19 mass screening sessions this week: The health authorities will send a text message to the selected people informing them of the date, time and place of the voluntary tests. These voluntary tests will be carried out in the towns of Cuevas de San Marcos, Cañete la Real, Árchez, Arenas and El Burgo.
This Monday the town of Arenas will hold the first session and on Tuesday the Junta will move one of its mobile testing units to Cuevas de San Marcos.
The town council in El Burgo has indicated that the screening in the municipality will be on Thursday 25 February for 310 residents and urged the members of the public summoned to attend the antigen tests. Covid England News- Boris Johnson reveals the route out of England’s coronavirus lockdown with some restrictions lasting into June: Coronavirus restrictions on meeting people indoors will continue in England until the final week of June, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday as he revealed a staged timeline for relaxing lockdown measures across the country.
Under the plan, which will be subject to periodic review and depend on the continued success of the country’s vaccination program, all children will return to school in early March, with mixing in groups outdoors allowed starting at the end of March.
Indoor mixing will remain illegal under the plan until May 17 at the earliest, when hotels and other hospitality venues would also be allowed to reopen.
Some legal restrictions are set to remain until June 21, however, when Johnson’s government hopes to lift all remaining legal restrictions. Police warn of fake parcel delivery message and app circulating in Spain: The message appears to come from Spain’s Post Office, Correos, and tells you “Your shipment is on its way”, accompanied by a link. But the National Police is warn this is a scam built around a fake app that has claimed a high number of victims, especially on the Costa del Sol.
The fraud is similar to other well-known cyber scams: the unsuspecting person downloads an application to track the non-existent shipment through the link. If the user grants it all the permissions then the scam can begin.
There are two ways that the app works – the first by using these permissions to duplicate the message, bombarding all the contacts on the device’s phonebook with the same message, thus increasing the spread of the virus. This method can add a high price to the telephone bills of users who have to pay to send SMS text messages.
The other possibility is that, through the permission authorisations that the user has given to the application to control the device, the malicious app can obtain their bank account details.

Obsolete Apple/Mac Restoration: Do you have an Apple/Mac computer sitting in your closet, that is obsolete, unable to run the current OS or new apps, but otherwise in good mechanical condition? I have just completed a weekend workshop on resurrecting these devices by installing a current version of Linux. I can do this on Mid-2006 (Lion OS) or newer devices. I have a demo model in my workshop, a mid-2007 MiniMacPC you can test drive. Popular programs come installed: Chrome, Firefox, Adobe Reader, Skype, VLC player and Libre Office (Open Office clone). You do not get Safari.
MX Linux is derived from the well respected Debian family of Linux systems.
It looks very much like Windows 10 and will be easy for most experienced computer users to adjust to.
Remember the advantages of using Linux:
-No anti-virus needed. Linux computers are highly secure and immune to most malware.
-Linux runs more efficiently than Windows or Apple, using less RAM and processor resources to do the same tasks. Thus it breathes peppy new life into slow, old devices.
-All your software is free, and provided by secure Linux “depositories”. Most apps, or at least reasonable alternatives, are available for free download on demand.
-Linux is free and you are in control. You will never have any activation issues like on Windows, or Apple security codes texted to your mobile. You do not have to register anything you don’t want to, although if you choose to use apps like Skpye you will have to sign in to those as usual.
Note: This is not a dual boot, Virtual Machine or Boot Camp system. It actually reformats the MacOS partition and does a clean install of MX Linux.
See MX Linux here: https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=mx

Covid-19 infections have been reduced by half this week in Andalusia: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 21/02/2021 19:58
-The increase in the number of coronavirus infections has clearly slowed down during February in the autonomous community, coinciding with the intensification of vaccination campaigns for the most vulnerable groups. In the first week of the month, 33,534 new positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Andalusia, which dropped to 19,359 in the second week and to 10,898 in the last seven days, almost half.
-The Ministry of Health and Families has reported 1,220 new infections in the last 24 hours, 414 fewer than the previous day. The number of deaths in the autonomous community now stands at 8,088 since the start of the epidemic, after adding another 39 deaths in the last day.
-The cumulative picture of the pandemic shows that 468,412 people have tested positive in PDIA tests (diagnostic tests for active infection) since the start of the coronavirus, almost a year ago, and 307,356 have recovered.
-Health also reports that 2,333 patients confirmed with Covid-19 remain in Andalusian hospitals (244 less than the previous day), of whom 581 are in ICU (24 less). This means that hospital pressure continues to fall.
-In terms of vaccination, 214,464 people have already received the two doses in Andalusia. The total number of vials administered is 602,489. These are figures as of seven o’clock this Sunday morning.
-The Andalusian Regional Government plans to begin the vaccination against Covid-19 of teachers in infant, primary and secondary education next week, a process that could last for a month, together with the vaccination of members of the State Security Forces and Corps.
Provincial infection rates
-The rate of infection per 100,000 inhabitants, accumulated over 14 days, remains above the national average in Andalusia, with 341.2 cases compared to 294, according to the latest data published by the health authorities. The Ministry of Health considers a rate above the threshold of 250 to be “extreme risk”.
-Only three Andalusian provinces are below the Spanish average: Cordoba, with an accumulated 14-day incidence of 225.2; Jaen, with 267.8; and Huelva, with 275.3.
-The spread of infections is particularly high in Almeria (461.8) and Cadiz (446.5), followed by Malaga (351.9), Seville (326.5) and Granada (301.1).
-This data will be updated this Monday and, foreseeably, in view of the drop in the number of positives over the weekend, the accumulated incidence rate will have been reduced.
-The Andalusian president, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, has advanced in recent days that, “provided that the figures are in line” and the incidence of infections and hospitalisations continue to fall in the region, at the end of February he could consider the possibility of making “some small opening” related to mobility and business hours. Boris Johnson considers putting a ROUNDABOUT under the Isle of Man in Brexit tunnel plans: Downing Street said the review, led by Network Rail chair Sir Peter Hendy, would explore the “cost, practicality and demand” for a fixed link connecting Ireland and the UK in the wake of Brexit. Whitehall officials said various ideas had been discussed for the review including a suggestion of a three-way tunnel in the Irish Sea.
The suggestion would see three tunnels with starting points at Stranraer in in Scotland, Heysham in Lancashire, and one near Liverpool.
The plan, initially reported today, would see the three tunnels meet in a giant roundabout underneath the Isle of Man with a further tunnel to Ireland starting from there.
One official pointed to the Faroe Islands which recently opened an under-sea roundabout with tunnels following more than three years of construction. The underwater tunnels connect the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy in a network some 6.8 miles (11km) long. They added to Express.co.uk: “If the Faroe Islands have idea’s like this, then why can’t we.”
It comes as Boris Johnson suggested a bridge over the Irish Sea could be possible and the Government confirmed “it was examining” whether it would include it in the upcoming infrastructure review. Football News- Barcelona 1-1 Cadiz, Koeman’s side miss chance to make ground on Atletico: Barcelona missed the chance to make a dent in Atletico Madrid’s lead at the top of the table as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cadiz at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Alex Fernandez’s late penalty earned the visitors a point, cancelling out Lionel Messi’s first-half spot kick.
A win would have moved Ronald Koeman’s side within six points of Atletico but instead they are eight points behind the leaders and five behind Real Madrid, although Los Blancos have played a game more.
Barca play again on Wednesday at home to Elche and can move within two points of Madrid and five of Atletico, although Diego Simeone’s men will have a game in hand. Full article:

DoctorLaptop’s Full Computer Maintenance Servicing:
If you rely on your laptop for school, shopping or communications and want it running at peak performance, an annual professional servicing is necessary. This is especially true in these current times where people have their laptops on all day. You wouldn’t drive your car till it runs out of oil before servicing it, would you? If you did, the repair would be far more than the cost of the oil change you neglected. Same thing with computers, and laptops in particular.
I do the most comprehensive cleaning and tune-up possible: After an internal cleaning I verify all System files replacing any found to be corrupt, test all hardware and do hard disk sector repairs if needed, use 5 tool malware/adware/spyware removal protocol, update Windows+all drivers+programs, and finally optimize your settings for fastest overall performance. I use a special on-line scanner with real-time behavioral analysis (which takes 6 to 10 hours), that will detect and remove malware that normal anti-virus programs cannot detect!
Price is €60. Job usually completed overnight. If you have multiple hard drives, or the hard drive is 1Tb or larger add €20.
Heavily infected computers, or those showing error messages, need a repair, not this maintenance service.  This service is for slow but otherwise healthy computers. If you have any specific problems, ask for an inspection & repair.

Spain’s regions move to ease coronavirus restrictions despite high contagion rates: Several territories, such as Madrid, are relaxing measures, even though the incidence level nationwide remains above 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, considered to indicate a situation of “extreme risk”.
Since yesterday, the Madrid region has changed its curfew time from 10pm to 11pm, and is allowing bars and restaurants to stay open until the same time (until Thursday they had to close at 9pm). Castilla y León, for its part, will be lifting the perimetral lockdown of some of its provinces, while Aragón will be suspending the confinement of the cities of Zaragoza and Calatayud. The experts, meanwhile, are calling for caution with these deescalation measures and have warned about the spread of the more contagious strain of the coronavirus first identified in the United Kingdom. Gibraltar chief minister says that Covid-19 infection has been “effectively suppressed”: Gibraltar is easing more restrictions from Monday, as the R rate of the virus is now well below 0.5 and few new cases are being found through mass testing.
As a result, from Monday schools will reopen as planned and so will children’s parks. Masks will only be necessary in Main Street, in shops and internal public places, and sport may begin again as long as the maximum number of 12 people gathering is respected.
Bars and restaurants are scheduled to reopen from 1 March.
The existing curfew from 10pm to 6am will continue until at least 14 March.
*Warning about going to Spain*
Chief minister Fabian Picardo announced at this Friday’s press conference that the Covid-19 infection has been “effectively suppressed”, but warned that infection rates are still high in Andalucía and asked people from Gibraltar to be very careful if they go to Spain.
“Please do not bring Covid on yourself or your family or your friends by going out to look for it in Spain. If you go to Spain, be very cautious. Please be a little more patient. Please be a little more cautious before you think that life is entirely back to normal,” he said. Photo:AFP. Ireland won’t consider re-opening hospitality before mid-summer says PM: “No consideration will be given to opening hospitality until mid-summer … the numbers of the virus are far too high,” Martin said in an Irish language interview with state broadcaster RTE. “Any easing of the restrictions has to be slow and cautious because of the threat from new variants of the disease,” he said.
Ireland on Friday also said it had registered its first cases of another COVID-19 variant first discovered in Brazil, but said the cluster had been contained. Photo:Clodagh Kilcoyne. Strains test Spain’s leftist coalition government: In office for just over a year, Spain’s leftwing coalition grouping the Socialists and hard-left Podemos is showing signs of strain with constant bickering between the two camps.
The latest clash between Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s Socialists and his junior partners was triggered by this week’s violent protests over the jailing of a rapper for controversial tweets with the demonstrations applauded by Podemos.
But in recent months the sparks have flown with greater frequency and over more issues, such as the Catalan regional elections on February 14th, said Anton Losada a political scientist at Santiago de Compostela University.
The main disagreements have been over social policy and immigration, portfolios held by the Socialists, with Podemos denouncing the treatment of thousands of migrants who have landed on Spain’s Canary Islands, for example.
The friction in the coalition stems from the fact that the Socialists, as the majority partner, believe they should have the monopoly on government action “while the smaller party feels constantly threatened and feels the need to claim its space,” said Losada.
The Socialists have 120 seats in Spain’s 350-seat parliament, while Podemos holds 35.
Jose Ignacio Torreblanca of the European Council on Foreign Relations said Podemos is “afraid of being rendered irrelevant” so it lashes out “viciously to maintain visibility and try and show there are two partners with the same strength”. Spain braces for fifth night of protests over rapper’s arrest: Authorities in Spain are braced for a fifth night of protests on Saturday over the imprisonment of a rap artist for glorifying terrorism and insulting royalty in his music and on Twitter.
Organisers called for demonstrations in Madrid and Barcelona, where protests on previous nights featured clashes with police, property damage and looting. Police in Catalonia have reported at least three mob attacks on police stations. Rioters smashed their way into bank offices in downtown Barcelona, burned trash containers and looted sporting goods stores on Friday night.
About 80 people have been arrested, including four on Friday night, and more than 100 people have been injured since the rapper, Pablo Hasél, was arrested on Tuesday in the north-east city of Lleida and taken away to begin serving a nine-month prison sentence.

Elon Musk’s Comments Cause Bitcoin Turmoil- Was It All A “Pump & Dump” Ploy?: Billionaire CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday the price of bitcoin and ethereum seemed high. This comes at a time when the cryptocurrencies have just hit record highs, and coming several weeks after his well publicized purchase of a billion dollars worth of Bitcoin, with bitcoin subsequently crossing the $1 trillion market-capitalization threshold. This has many anxious investors concerned that he will now grab his profits in a major sell-off, and move his money to some other exploitable financial instrument. Norway Seeks To Decriminalise Recreational Drug Use: Norway’s government on Friday proposed a bill aimed at decriminalising the possession and use of small amounts of narcotics, saying users should be offered treatment rather than face jail. The proposal comes with set thresholds for what should be considered a small amount for different illicit substances: two grams for cocaine, heroin or amphetamines, 10 grams for cannabis and 500 grams (17.6 oz) for khat. Ecologists Call Velez Malaga’s River ‘a Sewer’: Officials from the Axarquia Nature Studies Cabinet (GENA), said there has been a “failure to monitor and control discharges in the riverbed, contrasting with the campaigns to sanitise the streets of urban centres.” They said the result was “a sewer,” saying there had been, “a large discharge of sewage, certainly fecal in nature, judging by the smell they give off, on the bed of the Velez river, under the highway viaduct.” Full article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/02/20/velez-malaga-river-a-sewer/

Printer Help: Please can anyone guide me through the process to turn off my printing ink save function?
My OS is Windows 10. My printer is HP series 2540 all-in-one.
I turned it on yesterday, and forgot how to go back in and reverse it.
More info- It’s truly an ink-saver function that uses less ink to print text. I pressed the option to turn on when I was printing a long contract, which was just a file copy. It came out so light, I changed my mind. However I left it overnight and forgot the pathway thru the software to change it back.
I was printing a pdf doc, so maybe I will come across it again sometime soon. I tried the HP print doctor and the advanced printing settings/print quality but can’t find it.
Any help would be much appreciated. Elise.

Vaccine Breakthrough- Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine No Longer Requires Deep Freezing: Pfizer and BioNTech have submitted new data to the FDA demonstrating that their COVID-19 vaccine can be stored at normal refrigerator temperatures, rather than deep freezing conditions, for up to two weeks, a breakthrough discovery that could significantly ease the logistics of vaccine rollout.
In an announcement Friday morning, Pfizer said stability data generated on vials manufactured over the past nine months showed that the vaccine can be stored at -25°C to -15°C (-13°F to 5°F), temperatures commonly found in a pharmaceutical freezer for up to two weeks. The pharma giant hopes that the FDA will incorporate the finding into the vaccine’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), which currently requires storage at ultra-cold temperatures between -80ºC and -60ºC (-112ºF to -76ºF) at all times. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘won’t return as working royals’: Buckingham Palace confirmed on Friday that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, will not be returning to royal duties, and Harry will give up his honorary military titles — a decision that makes formal, and final, the couple’s split from the royal family.
The palace said Harry’s appointment as captain-general of the Royal Marines and titles with other military groups would revert to the queen before being distributed to other members of the family.
He will also have to relinquish positions as patron of the Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League and the London Marathon Charitable Trust.
Meghan, 39, will be stripped of her role as patron of Britain’s National Theater and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Photo:AP. Full article: https://www.euronews.com/2021/02/19/prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-won-t-return-as-working-royals-buckingham-palace-confirms

Mass grave of 80 British soldiers who died fighting French revolutionaries 220 years ago is uncovered in a Dutch castle moat: More than 80 skeletons found in a mass grave in the Dutch city of Vianen have been identified as British soldiers aged between 15 and 30 who died fighting French revolutionaries during the War of the First Coalition.
The grave was first found by city workers excavating a moat that once surrounded Batestein Castle, on the outskirts of Utrecht, on 20th November last year.
It was previously thought the site was some kind of battlefield and that the 81 skeletons could have dated back to medieval times.
However, new research has shown the remains in fact belong to British soldiers who died fighting in the War of the First Coalition between 1792 and 1797, and the site is more likely to have been a field hospital.
