Recommendations & Requests

DigameXtra News- More exposure and now in the top 4 million websites worldwide:
-I have had the DigameXtra radio spots on Coast FM Gold 97.6 updated. This aids in promoting the newsletter and in turn it’s sponsors.
-New Alexa rankings are out. Alexa, owned by Amazon, ranks all the world’s websites in order of popularity and visits received. When I took over DigameXtra in 2018 the Alexa rank was 12,000,000. By mid 2019 I had managed, using SEO tools, to improve to 9,000,000. As of today, of the 1.5 billion websites on the internet, DigameXtra has skyrocketed to the number 3,643,717 position!!!
That places DigameXtra in the top one fifth of one percent (approx. the top 0.2%) of websites worldwide.
That is quite extraordinary for a relatively small regional newsletter.
Thank you for spreading the word and making DigameXtra the most popular daily expat newsletter in Andalucia!! -Ed.

Warning – Strangers in the Campo: Our neighbours in Torrox Campo, off the Frigiliana Road, have had a strange thing happen today. Their gardener arrived this am. We then had a call from our neighbour saying his security camera had alerted him of intruders, and he watched as his gardener had been taken off his guard when a woman on foot, no car in sight, appeared with a bunch of flowers in her hand. She had a camera and said she was taking photos of the house as it was going on the market, and would he let her inside to take more photos. Of course he said no, and knew it was a scam.
She spoke Spanish our neighbour could hear this going on, he could see her taking photos and of the new camera as well.
Just thought I’d warn you in case you see anything similar going on.
Hate that these awful people who are wandering around the campo.
Makes me feel very unsettled. We always thought they wouldn’t come this far off the main road. How naive was I?

The incidence of Covid has now risen for two days in Andalusia but deaths are at a record low: {Translation} Updated: :28/05/2021, 17:40
-The incidence rate of the Covid-19 pandemic in Andalusia has risen this Friday for the second consecutive day. From 164.8 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants it has risen to 166.9 two weeks later, which means that the curve tracing the health crisis is rising slightly. It cannot yet be considered a trend, but it does highlight the fact that the pandemic, far from abating, is still in a saw-toothed phase in terms of the number of infections.
-As for the one-week incidence – the value where changes in the evolution of the pandemic are first noticed – the news is not positive either. This value has also been rising for two days now and is 78.3 on Friday, two points higher than yesterday and three points higher than on Wednesday.
-What does this mean? That Andalusia is still on a plateau of saw-toothed data where there are days where the number of infections is reduced and others – in this case two in a row – where it is rising. In this way, the objective of dropping from 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks’ time is still a long way off.
-Thus, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia recorded 1,497 Covid infections yesterday. This is about 50 more than the previous day and about 200 more than the same day of the previous week.
-Where the improvement has been maintained is in the number of deaths from coronavirus. There are only three this Friday, so that the community now has a full week with less than ten deaths from Covid each day.
-As for the number of hospitalised patients, Andalusia recorded 818 on Friday, eight less than yesterday. The community maintains the downward trend and has already halved the number of people admitted for Covid-19. The same is true of the ICUs, which today number 218, 10 fewer than yesterday. Andalusia will give the European passport to those immunised against Covid from the second week of June: {Translation} Updated: 28/05/2021, 19:30
-Andalusia will be a testing ground for the Covid passport being prepared and coordinated by the European Union. This pioneering project, which is being developed in several Spanish regions, aims to “test the suitability” of these digital vaccination certificates against the coronavirus.
-Sources from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families told ABC that the new health passport will begin to be issued in the second week of June to all those who have completed the vaccination schedule with any of the medicines being administered.
-This will be carried out between 7 and 10 June and around 9 June the new certificate could be issued to those who have completed the vaccination schedule.
-Andalusia has an application, Diraya, to record in its clinical history the vaccination given to each person. This computer system does not currently allow the combination of doses from two different commercial brands to be recorded, which is an added problem when administering the Pfizer vaccine to those who had received the first jab from AstraZeneca, such as essential workers under 60 years of age (teachers, police officers and carers, among others). This is not the case for those who choose to take the second AstraZeneca dose.
*Technical problem*
-The Ministry of Health acknowledges that they have encountered this technical problem and that they are trying to solve it so that all those immunised can have their certificate. However, they warn that the approved passport will be the one issued from the second week of June, which does include all possible combinations, so the Health Department is calling for calm. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-covid-andalucia-andalucia-dara-pasaporte-europeo-inmunizados-frente-covid-partir-segunda-semana-junio-202105281852_noticia.html

Spain faces a new AstraZeneca vaccine shortfall crisis: Despite the recommendation that the Pfizer vaccine should be given as a second dose to essential workers under 60 who received a first of AstraZeneca, the majority of people affected are choosing not to take the ‘cocktail’.
Despite insisting that a second vaccination with the AstraZeneca formula should only be administered in “exceptional cases”, in practice it is being totally ignored in the regions where the re-vaccination of this group has already begun.
According to the first estimates, in the regions such as Murcia, Andalucía, Galicia and Catalonia between 70 and 90 per cent of the people are choosing not to mix vaccines and instead are having a repeat jab with the AstraZeneca formula.
