Car Clean Malaga Recommendation: I would like to wholeheartedly recommend Warren at Car Clean Malaga if you need your vehicle sprucing up or valeting.
My Suzuki (pictured) is 15 years old and it now it looks as though it’s 2 years old, fantastic job on the exterior paintwork, headlights, wheels and interior (which was really filthy). He even cleaned the engine, a very reliable, trustworthy and concientous gentleman. The car was collected, a vehicle left with me in case of emergencies and returned within 48 hours.

Wasp nest problem: Can anyone recommend individual or local company (Competa/ Torrox/ Nerja) that could help with a wasp nest problem.

Beware: A lady in Nerja centre yesterday had a man at her door in a block of flats in Nerja. (he had already gained entry through the main door.)
He said he was from Endesa and needed to check the appliances, as someone was having work done in the block and it was causing problems.
The lady was English and he spoke to her in English.
After she let him in he wanted her D N I number and would not accept her driving license and demanded to see her passport or T I E-card, which was in her bedroom.
She, went into her bedroom to get it, and during this time he was wanting her to turn appliances on and off. He then said he needed to go downstairs to the main fusebox to check something, and when he had not returned, she went to check and he and his companion had disappeared.
So had money from her purse which she had left out being so flustered. Initially he told her she should have received a letter informing her of their visit. So please everyone be on your guard !! and don´t let anyone into tour home.

SPAIN

Business Transactions In Cash Now Limited To Only €1000:
{Translation, summary}
It should be noted that this barrier only applies when “one of the intervening parties is acting as an entrepreneur or professional”. For example, if you go to a garage and the repair of your vehicle exceeds €1,000, you will not be able to pay in cash under any circumstances. Therefore, any shop or business will only be able to accept cash payments up to that amount. However, if it is a purchase between private individuals, e.g. furniture or a car, there would be no limitation.
The anti-fraud law has already entered into force and entails a reduction compared to the previous limit of 2,500 euros.
The measure affects Spanish companies and professionals. “However, the aforementioned amount will be 10,000 euros or its equivalent in foreign currency when the payer is a natural person who can justify that they do not have their tax domicile in Spain and are not acting as a businessperson or professional,” the law states. In other words, tourists coming to Spain will be able to enjoy a cash payment limit 10 times higher. Source, Spanish: https://www.larazon.es/economia/20210729/pu5gj3oxxbfqrb3b6zk27jdjra.html

Cat Mews- Velez Malaga approves new animal welfare ordinance and CER method: {Translation, summary}
The new ordinance, among other things, includes the implementation of a programme for the management and control of urban cat colonies through the ‘CER Method’ (Capture, Sterilisation and Return) with the aim of progressively reducing the cat population of each colony, creating a census of urban cats grouped in colonies in the municipality and encouraging the adoption of cats. This programme will be implemented by means of an action plan carried out by volunteers who will have a card approved by the City Council and who may be feeders, coordinators or capturers, and as those responsible for the cat colonies they will also have a series of obligations to fulfil. Germany tightens rules for travellers on virus concerns: Germany will require all unvaccinated travellers arriving in the country from Sunday to present a negative COVID-19 test result, stepping up health checks on returning holidaymakers amid concern over rising case loads in holiday destinations.
Previously, only airline passengers were required to produce a negative test if they were not vaccinated and had not recovered from COVID-19 in the previous six months. People entering by road, rail or sea were not required to do so. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/germany-tightens-rules-travellers-virus-concerns-2021-07-30/

Tokyo Olympics- Djokovic out, Barega wins, doubts over Biles, Russians face backlash: Novak Djokovic’s bid for Olympic gold ended and Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega was a surprise champion in the 10,000m as the Tokyo Olympics continued to throw up shocks on day seven.
World number one Djokovic had been aiming to complete a ‘Golden Slam’ but lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev. Djokovic had been aiming to become the first man to complete a ‘Golden Slam’ – winning Olympic gold and all four Grand Slams in one year. He had already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon but his bid for history was derailed when Zverev came from a set down to win 1-6 6-3 6-1 at the Ariake Tennis Park.
World number five Zverev now has the chance to take the gold medal when he faces Russian Karen Khachanov in Sunday’s final. Photo:BBC. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/58023012

Football News- Rebel clubs to press on with Super League after court ruling: Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid vowed to press on with the European Super League project on Friday after a court ruled against what the clubs called “UEFA’s threats.”
A Spanish court on Friday threw out an appeal by UEFA against the decision this month to unwind the actions taken against all of the 12 Super League founding clubs.
The three remaining clubs not to abandon the Super League plan — Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus — released a joint statement welcoming the court’s decision against “UEFA’s monopolistic position over European football” and reiterated their stance to continue planning a breakaway competition.
A ruling by the mercantile court in Madrid on July 1, made on request by the Super League, declared null a battery of disciplinary measures that nine of the 12 clubs behind the Super League agreed to in May after a backlash against the proposed league.
It also voided the combined payment of 15 million euros ($17.8 million) by the nine clubs for what UEFA called a “gesture of goodwill,” as well as the pledge made by the nine that they would accept a fine of 100 million euros ($118 million) if they seek again to play in an unauthorized competition.

OTHER NEWS

On-Line Scam Update- Phony Call Centers Tricking Users Into Installing “BazaLoader” Ransomware and Data Stealers: Targeted users are sent email messages informing them of a forthcoming subscription charge unless they call a specific phone number. By tricking the recipients into calling the number, the unsuspecting victims are connected with an actual human operator at a fraudulent call center, who then provides them with instructions to download the BazaLoader app to fix the issue, which is really malware. Because the victim installs the app, it evades detection by security software.
In May, Palo Alto Networks and Proofpoint revealed an elaborate infection mechanism that leveraged websites associated with fake ebooks (World Books) and movie streaming subscription services (BravoMovies) as a stepping stone to deliver rigged Excel spreadsheets containing the BazaLoader malware. The latest attack disclosed by Microsoft is no different in that the call center agent serves as a conduit, urging the caller to navigate to a recipe website (“topcooks[.]us”) in order to cancel the non-existent trial subscription.
Once comprimised, the attacker can move quickly within a network, conduct extensive data exfiltration and credential theft, and distribute ransomware. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/07/phony-call-centers-tricking-users-into.html

Amazon Stock Loses $130 Billion In Market Value After EU regulators fine Amazon $1.2 billion for data protection violations: The Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection issued a decision against the company earlier this month, claiming that its processing of personal data did not comply with the European Union general data protection regulation.
Amazon has come under scrutiny by the EU before. In November regulators filed antitrust charges against the company, accusing Amazon of using its access to data from companies that sell products on its platform to gain an unfair advantage over them. Lateral Flow Tests for flights to England: I am returning to England in a few weeks and need a Lateral Flow Test 72 hours or less before the flight. Farmacia Monllor in Avenida Moscatel, Torre del Mar is offering them at just under €20 per person, which is cheaper than the private clinics (around €50) or Malaga Airport (around €25) I am assured by Farmacia Monllor that the service they provide and the fit-to-fly certificate they issue conforms to all UK government requirements but am wondering if anyone can confirm this from personal experience, or from the experience of any visitors they’ve had. I don’t want to be turned away at check-in! Caroline, Velez Malaga

SPAIN

The government extends until November the ban on cutting off electricity, water and gas and the anti-eviction decree: {Translation, summary}
-The anti-eviction decree and the ban on basic supplies to vulnerable families will remain in force until at least November. Government sources confirm that the Council of Ministers to be held next Tuesday will approve the extension until 31 October of the decree that includes these measures and others deployed in an extraordinary way in housing, such as the possibility for landlords in vulnerable situations to request a moratorium on rent when the landlord is a company or a large landlord.
-The law prohibits the eviction of families considered vulnerable by social services, and there is only one scenario in which evictions can be carried out: the landlord must be a small owner and the autonomous community must provide alternative housing for the affected party. If the administration is not able to rehouse the family, the family should be able to stay in their residence even if they cannot pay for it, and in such a case the state provides the landlord with compensation.
-The protection is greater if the landlord is a company or a landlord of more than ten dwellings, as in that case the rule automatically suspends the eviction if the family can prove their vulnerability.
– The fine print includes a veto on cutting off electricity, water and gas to families considered vulnerable by social services. The decree also prohibits cutting off basic supplies to “those consumers who meet the condition of vulnerable consumer, severely vulnerable or at risk of social exclusion”.
-The measures relating to renting will also be extended beyond 9 August. Tenants whose rental contract expires before 31 October will be able to ask their landlord to extend it for a maximum period of six more months under the same conditions. The landlord will be obliged to do so, unless he agrees different terms with the tenant.
-If the landlord is a large landlord (an individual or company with more than 10 flats), the tenant has other options. If the tenant has lost all or part of his job, his income does not exceed 1,613 euros per month and the rent, together with basic utilities, takes up more than 35% of his income, he can apply for a deferment of the rent. Alicante residents mistakenly jabbed with serum not Pfizer vaccine: Alicante residents who were mistakenly jabbed with serum not the Pfizer vaccine are set to receive a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine, to make sure that they are fully vaccinated.
This means that some of the Alicante residents will become the first people in Spain to receive a third jab of the Pfizer vaccine. This is something which is being considered for the general population at the moment.
Spain’s regional Ministry of Health have recalled about 30 people in Spain’s Alicante who received the second dose of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccination in Biar in Alicante. Sadly 12 of them were mistakenly given serum only. The shocking mistake was spotted at the end of the day when alarm bells rang and health staff realised that a mistake had been made. They discovered that 12 doses were not diluted correctly. Full article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/07/29/alicante-residents-mistakenly-jabbed-with-serum-not-pfizer-vaccine/

Junta hits the 10 million coronavirus jab milestone: The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, announced this Thursday (29 July) on his Twitter account that the region has already administered its 10 millionth dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. (These claims have been challenged by some of Moreno’s political opponents, who claim the numbers are  inflated for political reasons. -Ed.) Curfew News- Alcaucín and Sayalonga will not have a curfew despite their high rate of contagion: {Translation, summary} Updated: 29 July 2021, 9:00
-Neither Alcaucín nor Sayalonga will have a curfew for exceeding the Covid-19 infection incidence rate of over 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This has been decided this Wednesday by the territorial committee of Public Health of High Impact in Malaga, as both towns have a population of less than 5,000 inhabitants. Alcaucín with 1,316.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and Sayalonga with 1,211.7, are the municipalities of Axarquia with the worst Covid-19 incidence rate of the last 14 days.
-In the case of Alcaucín, this municipality has reported up to 30 new infections in the last week and has 31 active cases of coronavirus. Sayalonga has reported 16 new cases in the last seven days and has 22 active cases.
-In the province of Malaga, therefore, only the municipalities of Estepona and Marbella will see their freedom of movement restricted at night from 2.00 to 7.00 hours, as they have exceeded 1,000 cases of accumulated incidence per 100,000 inhabitants.

OTHER NEWS

US recommends not travelling to Spain due to Covid, ‘civil unrest’ and ‘terrorism’ threats: The Travel Advisory index of the United States of America, which measures the safety of its citizens in other countries, has lowered Spain to level 4 (red), and the State Department has warned “Do not travel to Spain due to Covid-19” before adding “act more cautiously in the country due to terrorism and civil unrest.” However, the notice is not an express prohibition.
Spain shares this level 4 (red) warning with other European countries such as Portugal and the United Kingdom, while the US Consular Affairs Office has reviewed the situation in countries such as France, Italy and Greece, placing them at a ‘level 3’ to “reconsider” the possibility of travel.
The traffic light system has four levels that go from green (take the usual precautions) to red, that Spain now sits in. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202107/29/recommends-travelling-spain-covid-20210729094555.html

COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia adds 3,848 Covid positives and registers seven deaths: {Translation} Updated: 28/07/2021, 11:31
-On Wednesday 28 July, Andalusia reduced the rate of contagions to a total of 3,848 cases of coronavirus, 906 fewer than the previous day, according to data consulted by Europa Press at the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), which has recorded seven deaths, nine fewer than on Tuesday and one less than a week ago.
-On the other hand, the cumulative incidence rate of the community recorded 27 days of consecutive increases and stands at 540.4 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, 4.3 points more in 24 hours – compared to 23.3 on Tuesday compared to Monday – and 107.5 points more in a week. The region has not had such a high rate since 12 February (583.7).
-The 3,848 of this Wednesday are registered after the 4,754 cases of this Tuesday, the 4,673 of this Monday and Sunday, the 5,318 of Saturday, the 5,721 of Friday, the 2,949 of Thursday and the 3,560 of last Wednesday.
-By provinces, Malaga is again the one with the most cases with 860, followed by Seville with 854, Cadiz with 524, Granada with 426, Cordoba with 389, Almeria with 299, Jaen with 263 and Huelva with 233.
-The seven deaths were recorded in Malaga (four), Almeria (two) and Jaen (one). Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/988272/andalucia-suma-3848-positivos-covid-y-registra-siete-muertes/

Covid Malaga- Malaga registers a notable drop in Covid cases, but there are four more fatalities: {Translation, summary} Updated: 28 Julio, 2021, 13:43.
-The province of Malaga recorded Wednesday a notable drop in the number of Covid cases and the rate fell slightly, but there were another four deaths with the virus and 53 hospitalisations in just one day. Furthermore, although the incidence rate has fallen, it continues to be the highest in the autonomous community.
-At the provincial level, the incidence is 840.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The previous day it was 855.2. But although it is decreasing, it is the province with the highest number in the autonomous community. At regional level, the average rate is 540.4. This is an increase compared to the previous day, when it was 536.1. Where it also falls is in the capital. The city of Malaga had an incidence of 1006.1 positives per 100,000 inhabitants on Tuesday -which would have led to a curfew- and this Wednesday it is 977.9 which frees it from that measure.
-The most negative part of the daily report from the Department of Health and Families is that four more deaths are reported with the virus.
-The pressure of care continues to rise. There are currently 467 patients in hospital, 74 of them in the ICU. This number means that – excluding discharges – there are 14 more than the previous day when the number of hospitalised patients was 453. OTHER NEWS

Dusty Hill, bassist for legendary Texas band ZZ Top, dies in his sleep at age 72: Dusty Hill, who played bass with ZZ Top for more than 50 years and helped make the Texas trio one of the world’s most famous rock acts, has died in his sleep. The band announced the news via social media on Wednesday. Hill was 72. (The cause was reported to be related to a “hip injury”. “Hipsters” will understand that as slang for another common health problem among musicians that “die in their sleep”, like Tom Petty and his “hip injury”, who died in his sleep… from an OD of the opioid painkiller Fentanyl mixed with an anti-anxiety drug in the benzodiazepine class. Or Prince and his “hip injury”, but he didn’t make it to his bed, he OD’d waiting for an elevator.  -Ed.) Perseid meteor shower 2021- All you need to know: 2021 is an excellent year for this shower! No matter where you live worldwide, the 2021 Perseid meteor shower will probably produce the greatest number of meteors on the mornings of August 11, 12 and 13. On the peak mornings in 2021, in the early morning hours, when the most meteors will be flying, there’ll be no moon to ruin on the show.
These meteors burn up about 60 miles (100 km) above the Earth’s surface. If any meteor survives its fiery plunge to hit the ground intact, the remaining portion is called a meteorite. Few, if any, meteors in meteor showers become meteorites, however, because of the flimsy nature of comet debris. Most meteorites are the remains of asteroids. Photo:James Younger. Slipknot founding drummer Joey Jordison has died, Monday July 26th, aged 46: Jordison was Slipknot’s drummer in their original formation, when they were called The Pale Ones and later Meld. He came up with the name Slipknot in 1995. The drummer departed the band in 2013, after making four albums with them.
The Iowa native revealed in 2016 that he departed Slipknot due to an inability to play as a result of a neurological disease called transverse myelitis, a type of multiple sclerosis, that left his legs paralysed. He recovered from his illness and began playing again in a number of bands.

Purchasing a funeral plan with Golden Leaves enables you to plan, design and pay for your funeral services in advance.

Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

COVID-19

Covid deaths in Spain triple in two weeks due to fifth wave:
-In the past 14 days, the number of weekly fatalities has grown from 32 to 98, while the incidence rate continues to rise.
-According to the latest figures from the Spanish Health Ministry, released Monday evening, 98 people in Spain have died after testing positive for the virus in the last seven days. That is nearly double the 50 weekly fatalities reported last Monday and triple the 32 recorded two weeks ago.
-According to Monday’s figures, 61,625 new coronavirus cases have been detected since Friday (no data is released on Saturdays and Sundays). This is nearly the same number reported last Monday, when 61,628 infections were detected over the weekend, indicating that the incidence rate is stabilizing.

Andalusia has 16 Covid deaths in one day, the worst in over a month: {Translation} Updated: 27/07/2021, 17:54
-The fifth wave of the pandemic is already noticeable in the number of deaths from Covid-19 reported in Andalusia. On Tuesday, the region recorded 16 deaths from the coronavirus, the highest figure since 30 June, more than a month ago. However, it should be borne in mind that on Tuesdays the death toll is usually higher because the data from the weekend are counted.
-Even so, the number of deaths from Covid-19 – which since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 10,323 in Andalusia – has risen in recent weeks as a result of the increase in the number of cases. Deaths have gone from less than five a day to around ten or more. However, thanks to the vaccines, the number of deaths does not correspond to the number of infections. With the same number of cases in the third wave, the number of deaths was close to 100 per day and now it is less than 20 on the worst days.
-While the number of deaths is growing moderately thanks to the immunisation process, the number of infections is still close to 5,000 per day. On Tuesday, the Department of Health and Families reported 4,754 cases, a figure very similar to that of the previous day and 1,000 more than the same day last week.
-As a result of this increase in the number of cases, the incidence this Tuesday stands at 536 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, 20 points more than yesterday. It is also up one week to 270 points.
-The fifth wave is also noticeable in hospitals, which exceeded 1,000 hospital admissions for the first time in months. There are 1,125 hospitalised by Covid-19 in Andalusia, 191 of them in the ICU. Malaga, Marbella and Estepona exceed the 1,000 Covid rate, with six deaths reported in the province: The number of new coronavirus infections continues to skyrocket in Malaga province. This Tuesday (27 July) some 1,594 positives have been reported, the highest number in Andalucía by far, and the incidence rate continues to climb.
-Malaga city (1,006.1), Marbella (1,041.8) and Estepona 1,073.6) have already exceeded 1,000 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. If these figures do not drop, the Junta de Andalucía could request a curfew in the three municipalities between two and seven in the morning. The measure, if requested, must be authorised by Andalucía’s Supreme Court (TSJA). Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202107/27/malaga-marbella-estepona-exceed-20210727135208.html

Britain reports highest deaths from COVID-19 since March as Johnson urges caution: Britain reported its highest number of deaths and people in hospital with coronavirus since March on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging caution despite a week of lower reported numbers of infection.
-Britain reported 131 new deaths from COVID-19, the highest daily total since March 17, though it came after just 14 deaths were reported on Monday, suggesting the weekend might have impacted when deaths were reported.
-The number of COVID-19 patients in British hospitals has also steadily risen to 5,918, also the highest since March, following a spike in cases earlier this month. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/end-britains-covid-pandemic-might-be-near-epidemiologist-ferguson-says-2021-07-27/

OTHER NEWS

Apple Releases Urgent Security Patch for Mac, iPhone and iPad Devices: Apple on Monday rolled out an urgent security update for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS to address a zero-day flaw that it said may have been actively exploited, making it the thirteenth such vulnerability Apple has patched since the start of this year.
The updates, which arrive less than a week after the company released iOS 14.7, iPadOS 14.7, and macOS Big Sur 11.5 to the public, fixes a memory corruption issue.
Given the public availability of a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit, it’s highly recommended that users move quickly to update their devices to the latest version to mitigate the risk associated with the flaw. Microsoft blocks pre 2017 computers from upgrading to Windows 11: Windows 11’s minimum requirements have caused a bit of an uproar ever since they were first announced alongside the OS earlier this June. Key points of concern were the need for TPM 2.0, an up-to-now obscure security feature that’s so niche that most standalone motherboards automatically disable it in their BIOS, as well as a strict CPU compatibility list.
-While Microsoft has since said that it’s testing Intel 7th gen CPUs with Windows 11, the first Windows 11 system requirements list said that you’d need to have at least an 8th gen Intel CPU or 2nd gen Ryzen CPU to upgrade to the new OS. For some context, Intel’s 8th generation launched as recently as 2017. Full article: https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/microsoft-says-you-cannot-ignore-windows-11-requirements

COVID-19

Covid inpatients in Malaga triple in only two weeks: {Translation} Updated: Saturday, 24 July, 2021 – 13:50
-The vaccination process is still underway, but the Delta variable, together with the relaxation of measures before the arrival of the summer season, means that the number of cases continues to soar. This is already resulting in a significant increase in hospital pressure in the province. The Department of Health and Families reports 383 hospitalisations, with 57 of them in Intensive Care Units (ICU). This is three times the number reported only a fortnight ago, when on 10 July Malaga recorded 127 hospital admissions, with 20 of them in ICU. The daily number of cases is still close to 1,500 and three new deaths have been reported. This is the epidemiological picture for Saturday 24 July in the province.
-The data provided by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA) are clear. Malaga has registered 1,484 new infections in the last 24 hours (Friday to Saturday), a very high figure, although the peak reached on Friday of 1,980 infected with the virus is lower. These are very high numbers, although on 24 July the figure is already lower than at the end of January with the peak of the third wave of infections. On 31 January there were 1,787 infections per day, mainly due to family gatherings at Christmas. Now all this upturn is due to very different circumstances.
-The pressure on hospitals continues to increase, as a direct consequence of these high numbers of new infections. In just 24 hours, the Junta warns of 58 new hospitalisations in Malaga and 4 admissions to the ICU. On the previous day there were 41, which slightly increases this worrying figure. This means that Malaga’s hospitals currently have a total of 383 admissions, of which 57 patients are in Intensive Care Units. These are the highest figures in the entire autonomous community.
-The worst news is the notification of three new deaths with Covid-19, bringing to 1,703 the number of deaths of patients with coronavirus since the first one was recorded on 13 March 2020. On this day, the province recorded 50% of the deaths of people infected by the virus in Andalusia, which reported a total of six. However, 612 people have beaten the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have recovered since the pandemic began in Malaga to 108,037.
-The Cumulative Incidence by the Covid-19 Active Infection Diagnostic Test is increasing at the regional level. If on Friday this figure stood at 470.89, this Saturday it rose to 36.96 points, and the AI in Andalusia currently stands at 497.85. EUROPE

French lawmakers approve bill to tackle fourth wave of coronavirus: The French parliament on Monday approved a bill which will make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for health workers as well as require a bolstered health pass in a wide array of social venues as France battles with a fourth wave of coronavirus infections.
-Visitors heading to museums, cinemas or swimming pools in France are already denied entry if they cannot produce a pass showing that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have had a recent negative test. The pass has been required for large-scale festivals or to go clubbing.
-From the start of August, the pass will further be needed to enter restaurants and bars and for long-distance train and plane journeys.
-The measures contained in the bill are due to end on Nov. 15. A final green light from the constitutional court, the nation’s top jurisdiction, will be needed before the law can come into effect. Father Louis, our Chaplain, is available for counsel and support, regardless of anyone’s beliefs or background. We aspire to be a welcoming and inclusive community, open to all people seeking faith and friendship.

COVID-19

The 5.721 new cases of Covid in Andalusia confirm that the descent of the fifth wave was a mirage: {Translation} Updated: 23/07/2021, 18:09
-The crest of the fifth wave of the coronavirus has not broken in Andalusia. After a significant drop in the number of cases on Thursday, on Friday there were 5,721 new infections and 7 deaths. If this is not an update of data from previous days, the difference is significant with respect to the same days in recent weeks. The community recorded 3,610 cases on 16 July, and 2,800 on 9 July. Today’s figure is the highest number of new Covid cases since February.
-Thus, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate is up 36 points to 471 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. It is still below the national average – 659 cases yesterday. The 7-day rate has risen in 24 hours from 211 to 232 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
-The incidence is very high in Malaga, which today has a rate of 787 cases. The situation has changed so much in just one day that Marbella has once again exceeded the rate of 1,000 cases (1,058), one day after the meeting of the alert committees that determines the municipalities that are candidates for the application of the curfew. Estepona is close to that limit, with 991 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
-Two other provinces exceed the 500 barrier: Cádiz (504) and Córdoba (500.5). The province of Seville has the lowest incidence rate with 305 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
-In terms of care pressure, Andalusian hospitals have 944 Covid patients hospitalised today, 33 more than on Thursday, of which 165 are in ICU, 5 more than the previous day. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-5721-nuevos-casos-covid-andalucia-confirman-bajada-quinta-espejismo-202107231222_noticia.html

Malaga records the highest number of infections in the whole pandemic, with almost 2,000 new positives in one day: {Translation} Updated: 23/07/2021, 13:42
-Malaga recorded 1,980 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, the highest figure since the pandemic began last year. In addition, there are two new deaths in the province due to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths due to the coronavirus in Malaga to 1,700.
-This drastic rise in the number of infections brings to an end two days in which the number of new cases had fallen below 1,000. And with it the hope that the fifth wave of the coronavirus was fading away. Malaga remains, moreover, the province most affected by the disease in this new wave, and its newly declared positives are more than double the next, which is Seville, with 886 today.
-In Andalusia as a whole, Health has reported 5,721 new cases and seven deaths on Friday.
-As a result of this fifth wave, the pressure on healthcare continues to increase. On Friday, 358 patients were admitted to hospitals in Malaga with coronavirus, 16 more than the previous day. 41 people have required hospitalisation according to the latest report from the Junta. There are 50 patients in the ICU, two more than yesterday.
-As a result of this increase, the incidence rate (IA) has risen again. This is certainly true for the province as a whole, rising from 717.9 infections per 100,000 inhabitants to 787.6. And in the capital, from 804.6 to 889.4. The possibility of a night-time curfew in the main city on the Costa del Sol is now just over a thousand cases.
-More curious is the specific case of Marbella. If yesterday, Thursday, it managed to avoid the territorial committee of high impact having to recommend a night-time curfew, thanks to the fact that for the first time this week it had fallen below the threshold at which this measure is taken (1,000 cases), this Friday it has exceeded it again, with 1,058.7.
Estepona, with a rate of 991.1, Torremolinos, with 808.6 and Benalmádena, with 796.9 are also of concern.
-The total number of deaths due to the pandemic has reached 1,700 today with the notification of two new deaths of people who had the disease caused by Sars-Cov2.

SPAIN

‘Everything pointing to’ need for a third Covid-19 vaccine dose, says Spanish health minister: Speaking during a radio interview, Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias went further than the official position of regulatory agencies and scientists, also predicting the need for yearly boosters, given the new variants of the coronavirus that could reduce the protection already being offered by the existing medication. Darias went even further when asked whether residents of Spain would have to be vaccinated against Covid-19 every year. “Yes, without a doubt,” she replied. 11:00 in Calle Dr Ros Alférez 7, Torre Del Mar 29740
Our meetings are friendly, joyful, reverent and orderly.
Our primary objective is to honour God and exalt our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, to be a house of prayer, a place of worship where God’s Word is faithfully ministered, and in so doing to be a spiritual oasis in Torre del Mar where all can feel free to exercise Christian love through their love of God, one another and our community. If you are a believer and want to worship in “Spirit and in truth” or if you are someone who is seeking to know more about the Christian faith, please come and join us.
Whether you live here in Spain or are visiting you will be welcome.
For further information please email Peter petcac@gmail.com

New Life Church: Whether you live in Nerja or are visiting our area, we would be delighted to welcome you to New Life Church. Our meetings are characterised by uplifting songs, relevant sermons and a modern but reverent service.
During this time of uncertainty, God’s word reminds us that the Gospel shines brightest in times of darkness. We are a Bible based Church community continuing to help people find their way to God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Jesus said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life“

El Puente Christian Fellowship – Sunday Service
El Puente Christian Fellowship is a loving, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ, who meet each Sunday at 11 am to worship The Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by one of the Elders or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated underneath Maroma Inmobiliaria Puente Don Manuel, Cruce de Periana – 29713.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/El-Puente-Christian-Fellowship-105285888299225/or please contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com. For those who cannot join us in person, we aim to stream Sunday services via the Facebook page (subject to a good internet connection!).

St George’s Church Málaga: We are part of the Church of England in Spain covering the area from Torremolinos in the west to the outskirts of Nerja in the east and to the northern edge of Malaga province.
We have three worship centres, in Velez-Málaga, Málaga city and Salinas. Everyone is welcome to our Sunday services in English, and you can also contact us to enquire about baptisms, marriage blessings, funerals, and house blessings.
Father Louis, our Chaplain, is available for counsel and support, regardless of anyone’s beliefs or background. We aspire to be a welcoming and inclusive community, open to all people seeking faith and friendship.
If you can’t get to church, we live-stream our Sunday services on Facebook, and also gather on Zoom for an informal service on Wednesday mornings.
Sign up for our newsletter by emailing Father Louis at malagachaplain@gmail.com to receive login details, and news of other future events. We look forward to welcoming you and being of service.
