He/she has been hanging around our house (Competa campo), doesn’t seem like the usual campo cat so thought it could be a lost pet.

Lovely cat, looks a bit grumpy in this picture but probably because my other

cats and dog keep chasing the poor thing.

Talk Radio Europe

Due to continuous interference on existing frequency in the Axarquia area, TRE recently launched the new 105.5fm frequency.  However the launch of this new frequency is still a work in progress.

The time delay mentioned in a previous post when driving between Nerja and Malaga is due to the fact the new frequency is being sent via an internet stream which travels half way round the world before reaching our radios causing a delay of some 30 seconds.

When driving the signal automatically bounces between TRE’s 105.5fm and 91.5fm frequencies whichever is the stronger.

In order to solve this problem, TRE will be installing a new piece of equipment which will replace the internet stream.

This new unit will eventually mean no more delays and no more interruptions in the signal, and also a local advertising option for local businesses at local prices.  However the new unit needs to be tested and tweaked and whilst this is happening you may still experience annoying interference and breaks in transmission.

TRE apologises for the inconvenience, but we believe all will be sorted

over the course of next week.

Recommendation – Dealing with Processionary Caterpillars

We used Chris to do this unpleasant but necessary job. He and his partner removed 20 nests from our pine trees, and applied insecticide to avoid similar problems next year.

Spanish Driving Test – easily done…..

I took my Spanish driving test in English about 6 years ago and arranged everything through AutoEscuela Nerja.  They sold me a rules of the road book in English and I was able to practice on their computers in English.  I only had to ask for the written test in English when I got to the testing room at Trafico in Malaga.  But the practical test was all done in Spanish so I was glad my instructor had put me through the paces in Spanish around the streets of Malaga beforehand.  Good luck with the tests.

Recommendation – Driving Licence Renewal –

(Note – this is not taking the actual Driving Test Examination)

To the person who is looking for a driving licence test in English.  No doubt some of the staff at the test centres will speak English but don’t be afraid if they don’t.

The test consists of the simplest medical exam (blood pressure, eyesight, hearing etc) and a hand/eye coordination test taken on a computer.  If you have no Spanish all will be revealed with gestures and pointing!

What’s on Re: Caminito Del Rey

It is said that the Caminito will be privatised on 1st April and a lot of people I’ve spoken with want to do this walk before then. However, although entry to the walk is free it seems that they are finding it impossible to book a place via the usual website. I have just done the walk with a company that charged 8 euros per person and got us in within a week (entry and guide only). Also there is an agency in Nerja offering entry and guide plus transport to and from El Chorro/Ardales for 30 euros.

We’re learning Spanish in the “Academia de Idiomas Torrox “ and are very pleased with our teacher, Maria Nieves. She is doing her very best to take away our fear to talk in Spanish and she teaches us the verbs and other grammar to improve our basic knowledge.

We would like to have even more conversations in Spanish and that’s why we’re organizing an “intercambio” Spanish-English.

Some of us are native English speakers and the others speak English as well.

We are looking for more native Spanish people, to participate at the “intercambio”. So, if you have native Spanish friends or other friends speaking Spanish, please invite them to come!

We’ll meet for the first time on Tuesday the 23^rd of February  at 6.P.M.

The construction started in 1940 and was completed in 1959 and there will be a guided tour.  After the visit you will join the coach to go to the town of Aranjuez, which has been one of the Royal Estates of the Crown of Spain since the time of Philip II in 1560.  There will be free time to stroll through the beautiful gardens and purchase lunch after which there will be a guided tour of the beautiful Royal Palace.  You will then join the coach for the drive to the city of Toledo for dinner at the 4* Hotel Eurostars Toledo where you will stay for 2 nights.                                            Friday, after breakfast, there is a free day to discover Toledo, known as the “Imperial City”, where there is a beautiful Cathedral, El Greco museum and much more.  There is also a small tourist train which takes you around the city with beautiful views.  You return to the hotel for dinner.                                               Saturday, after breakfast, you will join the coach for the return journey stopping on the way to purchase lunch.                                                                               Ticket price 419 Euros per person in a double room, single room 476 Euros.  This includes the coach, hotels on a half board basis, tours, guides, entrance fees, tourist bus ticket and insurance.  Deposit 100 Euros and final payment due end of February.  Proceeds to fundraising. Departure times Viñuela (Football Pitch) 6.45am, Algarrobo (Lidl) 7.15am, Caleta 7.25am, Torre del Mar (Coach Station)7.30am.
