Warning re Tow Bars & Spanish Law

Please be advised that you cannot just remove a tow bar from a Spanish reg vehicle yourself.

It has to be done by a recognised mechanic and a new EVT with the info on the paperwork..

Also you cannot fit a tow bar to a Spanish reg vehicle yourself, it has to be done by a recognised mechanic and a new EVT with the info on the paperwork.

There will have to be the tow bars original manufacturers certificate of compliance when presented for EVT.

I had a new Spanish made tow bar, with all paperwork, fitted to a Spanish reg saloon and it ended up being presented for EVT 3 times before it was completed and the mechanic that fitted it had to take the car himself, with his tow bar fitting certificate!

They are red hot. There are UK tow bar companies that will not now ship their gear to Spain because of the regulations,

Regarding the post about using the key-cutting shop in El Ingenio, be careful to ask what the cost is before ordering a key. They do key cutting but it can be expensive. We had a key cut for a Hyundai Atoz (small compact car) and it cost nearly 80 Euros!

Services – Rubbish 

In response to Tish Davies article, I would like to detail my experience regarding the illegal dumping of household rubbish on the surrounding roads  of Competa.
A bin was placed at the junction of the road to La Mata and the Competa/Torrox road recently and it has become a sad advert for the area. I believe it is illegal for the local council under E.U. law to encourage people “not” to recycle their rubbish.
I placed notices on the bins in Spanish and English last Friday lunchtime.

Whilst I was placing the notices, a British guy pulled up in his car with a bag of rubbish. I asked him could he read the notices, he grunted and put the bag in the bin, and went back to his car, talking in English to the rest of his passengers . The notices lasted 2 days, before they were torn off. The English notice I put up was:
PLEASE CONSIDER DISPOSING OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH AT THE RECYCLING CENTRE, OPPOSITE THE BUILDER’S YARD (TEJIERO AND GLOYPAT), ON THE WAY INTO COMPETA, ABOUT 1 KM FROM HERE.

OPEN 24 HOURS, 7 DAYS A WEEK.
PARKING INSIDE OF CENTRE
SIGNED:                                         A LOCAL RESIDENT, CONCERNED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
I  contacted the Council a few weeks ago to enquire as to whether the Recycle Centre On the Competa/Torrox road was now “legal”. I was told that it was. I stated that the vast amount of people that I had spoken to, still believed that it was closed to the public. I suggested that a sign be put up outside the concealed entrance to state that it was now open. I was told that a notice was going to be put in the Grapevine to explain the situation. Yes, two lines of text were inserted in the magazine to state that it was now open.
The illegal letting of property has a lot to do with this situation.
