Just a note to warn you all about a scam I was caught out by on last Friday evening. I was walking back from Mercadona in Torre del Mar when I car pulled up and the driver asked (in English) for directions to the hospital. This is a request I get fairly regularly so I didn’t smell a rat. After I’d given the directions a woman in the back thanked me profusely and offered me a ´gold´ chain which she put around my neck. They then sped off. The penny then dropped and when I checked, sure enough in one deft movement she’d taken my real gold chain, which my wife had bought me nearly forty years ago. I reported the theft to the police and later rang Linea Directa with the denuncia duly signed and stamped by the police, only to be told that my policy wouldn’t cover the theft as there was no violence, or weapon used.

In reply to the article about electricity charges.
We have the same problem, our monthly costs have actually doubled since a new ‘smart’ meter was fitted October last year.
I have contacted Endesa and they say that the readings are true, I can have the meter checked by an engineer but if found to be correct there would be a charge!
Before the new meter we paid 2 monthly, now we pay roughly the same monthly, 100% increase!
I asked them to explain why there was so much of an increase without any success?
Also the new meter can check your contracted power allowance. I am hoping this will not mean an increase in the ‘potencia’ agreement and another cost increase!
I would be interested to see if this is a common complaint before committing to have the meter checked.

The person querying their bills doesn’t say whether it is just the bill that has risen, or the kWh usage compared to normal.
Since ours was installed on 28 October we have received monthly bills which initially did seem to be higher than before. However, it has been a colder winter which has meant we have used an additional electric heater and the water heater more, and comparing 28 October to 28 December 2015 and 2016, they are possibly correct due to the extra heating we have used.
27/10 -28/12/15 448kWh cost 110€. Two bills covering 28/10 – 26/12/16 total 509 kWh costing 121.75€
We will keep monitoring it, especially in the summer when we only have electric water heating and fans, so they should be comparable to previous years’ kWh usage.

This will allow you to get an appointment after 1700. The form can be read and completed in English but the last page for your info is in Spanish.
Not hard but where it says correos, they do not want a street address but
an email address.
You need copy of passport and nie card. To substantiate usage we photographed the meter at noon for 4 days and they accepted that as our normal usage.
Was in Velez office at 1700 and out by 1720.
Cuts into afternoon drinking but only takes 29 minutes.

The ‘package deal’ that we refer to is simply a route taken by agencies or occasionally nurses, whereby they ‘sub-contract’ Carers to work as part of a team, and then they charge a commission on top for organising the package. We are more than capable of organising rota’s and shifts, covering holidays and sickness etc. with no need to add to the clients costs. The client pays the Carers directly without needing to go through the third party and paying their commission.
We have had a good response to our advert with English nurses that are currently undergoing the registration process here in Spain. These are individuals who are happy to work with us and not ‘sub-contract’ us. We look forward to updating Digamextra in the future, so that clients can think carefully when making the right care choices for their loved ones.
