New one way system at Punta del Faro

A couple of weeks ago the council, in their infinite wisdom introduced a one way system round half of the urbanisation at Punta Del Faro. I suspect it resulted from inconsiderate double parking adjacent to the refuse bins, which occasionally stopped the collection lorry uplifting the rubbish.
Unfortunately the signing is so badly located, and there is a complete lack of useful road markings that the same inconsiderate drivers, or perhaps a whole new lot are ignoring the one way system completely. I am not talking a small number here either.
So, in order to alleviate 90 seconds on potential inconvenience to a refuse lorry, the road is now dangerous.
Be warned therefore that should you be obeying the one way system you should have no expectations of not meeting oncoming traffic, and because of the poor layout you are now forced to drive on the wrong side of the road, directly into the path of the halfwits who think they are too important to take the extra 20 seconds to do it properly.

Recommendation – Building, decorating and house maintenance around Torrox

We have had work done recently including decorating, plumbing and general repair works by Pinturas Boral. They have been excellent – on time, professional, tidy and good value.

They can do bigger projects like bathrooms and kitchens also.

Manuel there speaks some English but it is best to let him know by email what you need doing and then he will arrange to come to see the job and give an estimate.

Some time ago a very kind gentleman on Digame gave me simple, clear instructions on how to download the Ryanair app, as at the time Ryanair and Orange weren’t communicating at all. Well, I deleted the app after a while as I thought the problem would be temporary, but here we go again! I have flown with Ryanair many times, so please don’t point out check-in restrictions.

Missing – Pedro the Marmalade Cat

Pedro, our marmalade cat has been missing for 13 days. He is 2 years old and has very distinct markings and is a deep marmalade colour. Last seen on the evening of Tuesday 25 April on the crossroads leading to Mendez/Rabita. Just above Sayalonga. He was playing on our neighbours drive. He is very friendly, used to dogs and we miss him.
He is not the cat on Sundays Digame which sadly died.

After driving my car, (very slowly), over a freshly laid piece of tarmac road and having fresh tarmac splattered up the door seals, lower door panels and aluminium wheels, I cannot recommend the services of Warren Phillips of Car Clean Malaga enough. He uses only top quality products and has an amazing array of tools, polishers, etc.

Warren carried out a complete external and internal clean of my car. Including applying protection to all the upholstery, as well as the exterior paintwork, wheel trims, headlights, etc. and returned it to me looking like brand new.

Meeting Tuesday 9th May at El Trapiche Restaurant

Probus meets on each second and fourth Tuesday of every month throughout the year. The members meet for lunch at El Trapiche Restaurant, El Trapiche for 2pm and normally have a guest speaker on the first meeting of the month. The members also enjoy various ?away days? during the year. The last of these was a visit for members and their partners to the Ron Montero Rum Factory and then to the Sugar Museum in Motril. A really interesting visit that opened our eyes to how important Motril was in the production of rum and sugar dating back to the 16th Century. Then off to Hotel Salobrena for a delightful lunch.
Probus is a worldwide organization, and our membership is open to all professional retired gentlemen living in the Axarquia area.

What’s on- Book signing by local author

Local author John Hardy will be at 2 events this weekend – on

Saturday 6th May at the Tail dog show from 12, which is for a

worthy cause, there will be dog classes and loads of stalls.

Also on Sunday 7th May at Día del Níspero in Sayalonga from 11.30. If you have never been to this one, it’s a great day out with loads of stalls, live entertainment all day, free nísperos, etc etc.

All the books will be available to buy, some versions translated into Spanish and German too. Most of the books are short stories of crime and mystery, some set in this area, some set worldwide, and ‘East Side Stories’ set just in the UK, from Hadrian’s Wall down to the Thames. The latest book is ‘Sedella – the story of a Spanish village’ which is a mix of historical facts about the village from prehistoric times to the present day, with fictional stories illustrating each period of history.

Missing or Rescued ? stray dog

I am afraid to say that I may be guilty of committing a so called rescue!

The fella pictured below had been hanging round the restaurant where I work on Burriana beach for some days and had made himself quite at home but for obvious reasons he could not stay there.

We took him to a vet and checked for a chip which he had but

when we tried the number it was discontinued.

He seems in good health and had obviously come from a responsible home as

He is well trained and very friendly with no apparent fears of anything.

I took him home as he just would not leave and would get quite distressed when we left to go home.

It would be lovely if he could be reunited with his real family.

Malaga Airport Drop-off/Pick-up- Information Needed Please

Advice urgently needed, as I have to drop off family at the airport and collect others in a few days time.

I am told that, to collect people, I now have to park the car in a new ‘Arrivals’ car park situated between the large Taxi car park and the railway station.

To drop off I have to go to the upper level (Departures), drive past the area where we could park for a few minutes to (drop off and collect) and now then have to drive further on, to the ‘Express’ car park, where the entrance for this is opposite the old Terminal 2 building.

Is all of this correct?

Any advice and information would really help. Many thanks.

Recommendation for Solar Power System

We would like to make a recommendation for SurIntegral .

Trip to Orgiva Tea Gardens Saturday 20th May (date change)

The Orgiva Tea Garden has evolved over the last ten years from a barren patch of land with waist high weeds into a beautiful tranquil garden split over three very different levels and covering about 5000 sq m.
The philosophy with regards to the planting has been to concentrate mainly on Mediterranean plants with help from shade-providing trees and also to take into account our animals as many have free range over the whole garden.

Ronda Romantica Feria Saturday 27^th May

During the three day festivities, locals and visitors are taken on a voyage of discovery to 19^th century Spain, a time of bandits, muleteers and romantic travellers. Dogs do not Necessarily Need Rescuing…..

Once again I am writing to say that, if a dog does not look like it is malnourished. Leave it alone.

There are hundreds of dogs on a daily basis running around during the day time, they are latch key dogs.

The owners are invariably Spanish. It is a custom here in Spain to let dogs roam around during the day. Taking your dog for a walk is not a Spanish custom.

If you think you are rescuing a dog, then that dog becomes your responsibility. In other words you are the owner.

Once again, leave a stay dog alone, unless it looks like it needs food. 9 times out of 10 they will go safely home.

I would like to say a Massive thank you to Natalie Brookes for everything she has done for my mum over the past 10 years since she started being ill. During this length of time they both became very close friends. Natalie has taken care of all her medical problems, arranging and taking her to doctor/hospital appointments, been with her for hours when admitted and discharged from hospital during several operations over the past 5 years. If an ambulance has been needed urgently Nat has arranged it and came straight round as well. I knew when I went on holidays that my Mother, Aunt and Uncle were in safe hands. When Mum passed away Natalie organised everything for us and made sure everything ran smoothly on such a very sad day, even to taking care of the music and not sitting with us for the service. These are not the only services Natalie can offer, she can sort any problems to do with utility bills, documentation for the selling of cars and driving licences. MOT, visits to the townhall, legal queries and translating of documents as well as being an interpreter at the police station and hospitals, and loads more I may not be even aware of, you name it she can do it. Natalie puts a lot of time and effort into dealing with certain situations and making numerous phone calls behind the scenes that people are not aware off. Thank you Natalie from Helen and Scott xx

We have a solar panel which is probably at least 15 years old and

is probably getting to the stage where it needs changing.

We’ve just had the panel ‘flushed’ to clean it from a possible build up of ‘Cal’.

This, though, does not appear to have improved things.

Good News for Android Tablet and SmartPhone Lovers

plus Safe Internet Access for XP/Vista Users

Android (Marshmallow) is now available for computers. Works with or without a touchscreen. You now have a good, free, familiar alternative to Windows. Android can be installed to replace Windows, or installed beside your existing Windows installation so you get to choose which system to load when you power up your computer; this is called a “dual boot” setup in tech-speak. A dual-boot setup is a good way to access the internet safely from an older and now obsolete Windows XP or Vista system which should not be used for internet access any longer!

-I can convert your computer to Android and set up your apps for €60. Note this will erase all your data. If you want me to save your data and copy it back into your new Android system there is an additional charge.
-I can “dual boot” install Android while keeping your current Windows system and data intact. Dual boot install with Windows 7 is €80, for Windows 8/10 the charge is €100. If you want me to copy your Windows data files into the Android system there is an extra charge.
-Another choice is for me to create an Android bootable USB Flash drive (memory stick) or DVD for you. Just plug it into your computer and power up. Your computer will now be running Android while not affecting your Windows system. With this setup any saved data will be lost when you shutdown the computer. A benefit of this method is that none of your passwords or banking details remain in the computer after shutdown, so a lost or stolen computer won’t mean you have to cancel all your cards and change all your passwords. The cost for this is €30, plus the cost of the Flash drive or blank DVD. I will need to change a few settings in your computer for this to work.

Breaking News: FilmOn TV Has Stopped It’s Free Service
It looks like FilmOn is no longer providing a free service on their site or with the HDi player. This apparently also blocks other services/sites that used the free version of FilmOn as a content source. Viewing FilmOn now requires a paid subscription. What’s on– Art Exhibition – May 11th, Table Mountain Comares

Exhibition of paintings by the great local artist Ursula Williams. Grand opening on the 11th of May at 19.00. On 25th May, last day of the exhibition, there will be a raffle of the painting “Gato Tuerto” (one eyed cat) to raise funds for GADAH (Give A Dog A Home). Price of each ticket is 2€ and they will be available at the bar from April 23rd.

Ursula has donated her beautiful painting “Gato Tuerto” (blind cat) to raise funds for GADAH (Give A Dog A Home), our local dog charity. Tickets currently for sale in Table Mountain (Los Ventorros, near Comares), for 2 Euros each. The picture can also be seen there. The draw will take place on 25th May. A hearty well done to Paul, Caroline, PJ, family and staff of the former El Pino restaurant and bar in Torrox Park, who made a timely and efficient transition to the Tabla Restaurant across the road!

The new premises are lovely and clean with well-spaced tables and with wonderful views from the two balconies.

The Sunday Carvery lunch was superb with a good choice of meats and vegetables, followed by an excellent fruit crumble and custard dessert.

We strongly recommend a visit for food, drink, music and a great service at a very reasonable price! Stuart and Linda

What on – Torrox Pueblo Art Group

The Torrox Pueblo Art Group starts again for its summer session on the 10 May and will run for 10 weeks until the 12 July.
This is an ideal opportunity for new members to get involved with this established group which is now in its 5th year.
Complete beginners or the more established artists will be made more than welcome in this friendly group who operate from La Casa Restaurant in the main square, Torrox Pueblo. We start at 10.30am – 1.30pm every Wednesday.

It’s only €8 per person per session but please bring your own materials.
We cover all subjects, portraiture, still life, animals, landscapes and abstract paintings / drawings. We use all the popular mediums, oil, acrylic, water colour, charcoal and pencil.
