Comment on previous article I was surprised to read yesterday’s article on sweet itch in Horses by Steven Rowle. I think the article is misleading and trying to make people believe that healing will fix sweet itch. That of course is incorrect information. I think the article should be mentioned again just in case anyone out there believes what he is saying. He goes on to say at the end that the horse still has sweet itch, so why start with all the ‘pretence’ of help being at hand in healing? Also horses do not wear ‘jackets’, even children know that. I am a qualified equine professional, accredited by the British Horse Society. I am not sure what Steven Rowles equine qualifications are ? I don’t write articles on healing. Information for Horse Owners The Trouble with Sweet Itch

To all you horse owners in the Axarquia area, Sweet itch is probably one of the most frustrating issues to encounter during the summer months. To the uninitiated, Sweet Itch comes in the summer months and is a condition caused by certain types of flies, biting the horse. These little bugs contain allergens in their saliva and the insect bites, cause allergic reactions. Initially the problem is seasonal, but it becomes progressively worse over time and eventually affects the individual all year round. The horse owner can only watch in despair, as self-inflicted trauma from rubbing and biting destroys a once magnificent coat, into an unsightly patchwork. Hair loss, bleeding and thickening of the skin begin, opening up the horse to potentially more infection. Vets are just as frustrated. Many medications are prescribed to treat the symptoms but they can only serve to cause more side effects and hinder the horses liver function. Salt therapy has made some head-way in recent years with lung issues and it has been known to help Sweet itch, but this means keeping the horse in a barn for long periods of time as it inhales the salt mixture. There are preventative measures like a horse jacket, keeping the horse away from watercourses, skin oils, etc, but they are either time consuming or impractical, what the horse needs is a boost to its own immune system to help it to cope with the reaction to the bite. As with a recent case help could be insight. The horse pictured lives in the Axarquia region and had been seen previously by Animal healing for its behaviour. He was carrying a lot of issues from a former life which has hindered his health. Once this was conquered only the Sweet Itch remained. Recommendations Needed – Suggestions for Special 50th Anniversary Celebration Can anyone suggest an evening venue for a 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration at the end of February in or around Nerja ? We have family coming over from the UK who are staying in Nerja and want to have a special evening celebration for our 50th Wedding Anniversary, there will only be approx. 8 people at the event so nowhere that caters for huge numbers. Somewhere with good food that can cater for a plain eater husband as well as more exotic (if that’s the right word) ! Somewhere with entertainment either there or nearby. Perhaps someone has had to do the same thing and has suggestions. Any advice would be appreciated. Would even consider hiring a mini bus to go further afield with a return to Nerja later.
