We had another fantastic night on Tuesday for our jam session! Thanks to everyone! It’s getting busier by the week with better and more unusual musicians turning up every time! Anyways, back to this weekend’s live music!
-THURS 9PM. We are delighted to have fellow Irishman and local legend, Paul Hayes back to sing some Irish classics, wonderful blues and some rock’n’roll classics!
-FRI 930PM. We have yet another new act for you, new local band, BLACK SHEEP, will be joining us for the first time to give us their brand of rock’n’roll! We’re really looking forward to this one!
–SAT 930PM. Lee Townsend is back but this time he’s bring his band with him! The Box Drum Band will be doing what they always do and absolutely rocking our little bar! These guys are just incredible and we love when they’re in!

Red Cross initiative for English-speaking residents in Torrox:
As part of its programme of social inclusion, the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja), is shortly to launch an interesting new initiative in the Axarquia region beginning in Torrox Pueblo in November. It will be for any English speaking foreign residents living in and around the area who would like to meet new people in a friendly environment once a fortnight to enjoy a variety of social activities. For more details please see the poster.
Richard Weale, a British Volunteer with the Red Cross, said “This is a new opportunity for anyone aged over 50 to come along and take part in a range of activities, for example, informative talks, quizzes, cookery demos, films, learn simple Spanish words and phrases, training in the use of Smartphones and other technology, celebrating fiestas and special events and our team of volunteers will shape the activities to suit everyone’s needs. Above all, it’s an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends whilst having fun. We’re calling the project “The Open Door” because that’s exactly what it is, open to any nationality who are English speakers as all the activities will be in English.”

New Petrol Pump and Vehicle Fuel Labels: From October 12th, petrol pumps will look slightly different in Spain and across the EU, as well as in neighbouring countries including Norway, Iceland and Turkey.
Under the new EU directive, instead of “Unleaded” and “Diesel”, petrol pumps will be labelled with letters and numbers, relating to the type of fuel and the amount of biofuel it contains in a bid to help consumers select the appropriate fuel for their vehicles throughout Europe. To help with the transition, both the new and current labels will be displayed alongside each other at petrol stations. Under the new system, “Unleaded 95” and “Unleaded 98” will both be replaced by the letter “E” surrounded by a circular border, followed by a “5” for 5 percent biofuel or “10” for 10 percent and the fuel currently labelled “Superethanol” will become “E85”

Pets

Mastin Month: Tail Torrox would like to make October the month for rehoming some of our Mastin dogs. Mastins are quite large dogs but very friendly and often used by the goat herds in Spain. It is always harder for us to rehome the bigger dogs as they need space and exercise. We currently have 4 dogs that fit this description and they are all at a great age for adoption. Mastins make good guard dogs due to their size. Typically they tend to be a bit nervous of noise such as fireworks but have easygoing temperaments. New Info For Salud 101 plan: Can anyone out there tell me the current situation with what was Clinica Rincon? DoctorLaptop – Another “I told you so” Moment – Microsoft Suspends Windows 10 Update Rollout After Users Report Deleted Files
Hi readers, in the past month I posted 2 warnings regarding the upcoming Windows 10 semi-annual Update due this month. I suggested everyone using Win 10 make a System Restore Point, or better yet make a Disk Image Backup, as soon as possible, certainly prior to doing this upcoming update.
Guess what? Microsoft just recalled the October update and warned users NOT to install it. There have been many reports the update will break you computer and may also permanently delete some data files!
Did you heed my warning? Did any other techs warn you about this? Just one more reason why people drive all the way from Mortil or Malaga to have their computers serviced by DoctorLaptop! I ride the crest of the wave while others remain in the kiddie pool. How? I do my homework and take the time to read the corporate whitepapers and follow Microsoft insider blogs.
The next time you need your computer serviced consider that a few extra miles drive may very well be worth the small inconvenience in order to have the job done by a dedicated computer pro, DoctorLaptop!

Disappointment: Saturday night I had the chance to watch some excellent entertainment at the Trapiche restaurant Trapiche, this show was put on to raise money for charity. The dancers, singers were first class, showing how much time and effort had gone into producing a quality show, BUT to say I was disgusted, very disappointed, and find it unbelievable that mature adults? find that they were unable to keep quiet when the show was on, continuing to chatter, laugh, more chatter, put a slight dampener on the show for me. Maybe the next time they attend a show, they will have the good manners to be quiet and allow others to enjoy the entertainment. Once again well done to all those who performed so well.

Message From Silk’s Bar & Grill, Torrox Costa: Mel and Thomas say farewell to Silks and all its amazing customers. It’s with a very heavy heart that myself and Thomas have had to pull the shutters down on our time at Silks. Since taking the bar on we have put our heart and soul and every penny we have in the world in to it. But it wasn’t enough due to outside influences and the shear business climate in Torrox for Ex Pats trying to do a fantastic job for the community and holiday makers alike. We would like to say thank you to all the friends we have met along the way and say a fond farewell to you all. We wish you luck and prosperity in everything you do. No one could have tried harder than we did, however we were met with adversity at every turn. We are now back in the UK for a short while to get our personal finances back on track, we will never give up on the dream of Spain, but we feel that our Time in Torrox has now naturally come to an end.

Recommendation car valeting and scratch disguising: I asked for some help in finding someone to repair the vandalism to my lovely cabriolet car which was badly ‘keyed’. I received a number of very helpful replies and contacted Warren who visited me to inspect my car and gave me honest advice regarding my options. He offered to do his best to disguise the scoring and he achieved a significant improvement at a very small cost. I also asked him to give the interior a good clean and the result was like new. Alternative Medicine and Homeopathy Under Threat in Spain: Hundreds of experts call for the Health ministry to take action against pseudosciences that “kill”. Around 400 health experts, the majority of them doctors and researchers, have signed a letter sent to the Spanish minister for Health, María Luisa Cancedo, calling for immediate action against pseudoscientific therapies such as homeopathy. On too many occasions, they say, these remedies have led patients to abandon conventional medical treatments which has caused their death. The signatories of the letter call for the minister to use the law – or make new ones if necessary – to prevent registered doctors from offering their patients pseudotherapies; to prevent people without the precise training and qualifications to publicly offer therapies with no scientific basis; and to prevent pseudoscientific products, such as homeopathic remedies, from being sold in pharmacies “despite being ineffective”.
