Medical Interpreter: I would like to recommend Pamela Walshe who has advertised here as a medical interpreter. (Mobile 609 040 709)
Hospitals can be confusing and distressing places in whatever language. She knows the ropes, so to speak, and has assisted me many times. It is wonderful to be shown where to sit and relax in the knowledge that someone else is knocking on the right doors and watching my place in the queue. This in itself is a huge advantage apart from the translation with the doctor.
She has a set fee, no matter how long the appointment and she also picks up from one own front door if required.

Art Exhibition in Nerja: 17 members of ANEDA (Asociacion Nerjena de Arte) will be exhibiting paintings and objects in the sala municipal in Calle Cristo 14 (the post office street) from 27th of June until the 13th of July. Baviera Golf Info: Uncertainty over future of Baviera Golf. The recent decision to make more than half of the staff at Baviera golf course in Caleta de Vélez redundant has thrown doubt over the future of the facility. The announcement was made by Baviera’s management last Saturday and leaves just seven people employed at the course. As well as the redundancies, the management also announced that the golf course would only be open from Monday to Friday and closed at weekends with immediate effect and until further notice. Damaged Car: Just wondered if any Digamites witnessed the collision in which my car was damaged. HEATWAVE: Most of Spain and Western Europe is set to sizzle in temperatures up to 45C however forecasters say we in Andalucia will escape the worst of it. On this occasion it will be areas of north eastern Spain that are badly hit, rather than the typically hotter southern regions of Extremadura, Andalusia and Murcia. Zaragoza and Logroño will see the mercury rise on Friday to 45C and 44C respectively, whereas Seville will get a balmier and not too uncommon summer temperature of 35C by the weekend. Madrid will also have to endure 41C temperatures by Friday. In Majorca and the other Balearics, the average daytime temperature for the second half of the week will be 35C.

Subsidies now available for buyers of sustainable vehicles: A grant of 5,500 euros is now available for people buying an electric car, financed by the Andalusian Energy Agency with funds from the Spanish government. There are also subsidies for plug-in hybrid cars, battery-powered motorcycles and small lorries and vans which use alternative fuels such as gas. The list even includes cars propelled by hydrogen fuel cells, even though few of those are available on the market. To be eligible, the client has to scrap a conventional car which is more than ten years old. There are also further discounts for purchasers with physical disability and those with large families.

Water Fight in Lanjaron: Fiesta del Agua y del Jamon is this Friday thru Monday. Saturday there is the parade, La Publica. The water fight in the streets is at midnight Sunday, for 1 hour no one is immune to water attacks in the street!

Knockout Gas Robberies debunked: There is a wave of burglaries on the Costa right now. Stories of “knockout gas” are circulating once again. This is almost certainly not the case. To fill a large bedroom with a gas to the concentration required to put you under so deep you wouldn’t hear intruders would require a tanker truck of highly regulated gas. Such a quantity would cost way more than a single robbery would net. When the Russians wanted to knock out an auditorium of hostage holding terrorists, they used gas before attempting a rescue. The identity of the gas was never disclosed, although it is believed to have been a narcotic, a fentanyl derivative such as carfentanil. It overdosed everyone, killing hundreds. If a less lethal option were available the Russians would surely have gone with that instead. The Royal College of Anesthetists issued a statement last year amid claims that Britons were being gassed and burgled in motor homes.
