SPAIN

Spanish PM Sanchez announces planned gender-parity law:
– Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced a plan to pass new legislation to require a more equal representation of women in political, business and public fields. Sanchez was speaking during a rally held by his Socialist Party (PSOE) in Madrid on Saturday. The Equal Representation Law will be up for Cabinet approval on Tuesday ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8. The prime minister described the left-wing coalition government’s plan as “not only taking a step in favor of feminism, but in favor of Spanish society as a whole.”
– The law will demand that listed companies with more than 250 employees and an annual turnover of over €50 million (roughly $53 million) assign women to at least 40% of management roles.
– Women lawmakers currently make up 44% of Congress and 39% of the Senate. The proposed law will require that these are both brought up to 50% with parties obliged to put up an equal number of male and female candidates to stand during elections. It will apply to elections at all levels, from municipal votes to the European Parliament.
– Professional associations and juries that give out awards financed with public money will also have to make sure women make up at least 40% of their boards. Full article: https://www.dw.com/en/spanish-pm-sanchez-announces-planned-gender-parity-law/a-64886359

The tax and criminal incentives of the ‘trans law’ for a man to transition into a woman: {Translation, summary}
– The ‘trans law’ has been in force since last Thursday, following its publication in the BOE (Official State Gazette). A regulation that will allow men and women to change their gender nominally, without the need to undergo surgery and thus physically change their sex. This has caused great controversy among classic feminists, who believe that this legal text erases the rights won by women, as men can now obtain the same rights by going to the civil registry office.
– For example, a man who is physically unfit for the National Police physical tests may be able to get a place as a woman. The marks for men and women are different and even some exercises vary: women are not required to do pull-ups, but to hold on to the bar for as long as possible. In this way, a man who decides to change his gender could take his place from a woman.
– In the case of the Guardia Civil, the problem is even greater: the Ministry of the Interior wants up to 40% of the Guardia Civil to be women by 2030. This means that in order to avoid fierce male competition, some are considering taking the tests through the female route, as they have priority to obtain a post, to the point of gaining access to it even if they have a lower mark.
– Men who want to access subsidies for the self-employed would also benefit in several autonomous communities through a change of registration: women have different conditions to access these subsidies, since, for example, men have a limit of 30 years of age to receive 5,000 euros, while the threshold for women is higher: up to 35 years of age. Those over this age are entitled to a grant of 3,800 euros. Therefore, a 32-year-old man may find it interesting to change sex in order to qualify for a higher amount. In Murcia, age is not taken into account, but men receive 2,000 euros and women 2,500 euros. In Castilla y León this positive discrimination also exists: a self-employed person who moves his or her activity to the region receives 6,000 euros, but this can be increased by a further 2,000 euros if the person applying is a woman.
– In addition, a man might be interested in becoming a woman because many companies receive bonuses for hiring women: in Andalucia, for example, the Junta rewards 6,000 euros for a new hire of someone who is unemployed, a figure that rises to 7,200 euros if the worker is a woman. In Madrid, something similar happens: the subsidies are 3,000 euros for a worker hired from unemployment, although these rise to 4,200 euros if the worker is a woman. In this case, a company could benefit from this aid if it hires a man over 45 years of age. Therefore, a man could change sex to facilitate his access to the world of work.
– In addition, some public institutions have promoted grants that are available to women: the Neotec Women programme of the Ministry of Science and Innovation approved last June a budget of five million euros for projects led by women.
– As for contributory pensions, here too it is more interesting to be a woman than a man. Women receive 30.15 euros per month per child, with a maximum limit of four. This means that a woman can receive a maximum of 120.60 euros more than a man in a pension of this kind. ANDALUCIA

The DGT begins on Monday a campaign to monitor and control the seat belt: {Translation, summary}
– The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) is launching a special campaign this Monday until 12 March to monitor and control seat belts and child restraint systems (CRS), both on urban and interurban roads in Andalucia.
– To avoid violations and ensure compliance, the Traffic and Road Safety Law has increased the points that are lost for not using the appropriate child restraint system or not using it correctly to four, in the same way as it has been done for not using seat belts, according to a press release.
– The DGT insists that seat belts are also essential in the rear seats, since in the event of a frontal impact, for example, the probability of a rear seat occupant fatally hitting a front passenger can be up to eight times higher.
– In the case of CRS, it is compulsory for children under 1.35 metres tall (around 12 years old) and recommended up to 1.50 metres, approved for their size and weight. In all cases, the diagonal shoulder strap should be across the collarbone over the shoulder and close to the chest, while the lap strap should be as low as possible on the hips. If the shoulder belt touches the neck or passes under the chin, the child should continue to use a booster seat and never ride with the belt under the arm or behind the back.

Junta Proposal- Tourist accommodation regulation in Andalucía to be managed by local councils, new requirements will be introduced, such as having a sound level meter to control noise:
– Tourist rental properties will have to comply with a new regulation that the Junta’s regional minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Arturo Bernal, wants to come into force before next summer. The decree, which is about to go out for public consultation and which updates the requirements of the 2016 decree, would give local councils to power to limit tourist accommodation lets.
– “It is a regulation that aims to control and improve the quality of tourist services. We are not going against any accommodation, but rather to regulate, plan and organise the quality of this service,” Bernal added. Bernal also said that new requirements will be introduced, such as having a sound level meter to control noise. “In the regulation we have introduced significant elements to improve the quality of housing and we are giving neighbourhood associations tools so that they can decide on this activity in their premises or buildings.” Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/tourist-accommodation-regulation-managed-local-councils-20230303142553-nt.html

Atlantic front set to bring rain back to the Costa from Monday this week:
– The rain is set to return to Malaga province. Or at least that is the forecast of Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, for this coming week. The reason is the arrival of an Atlantic front that will trigger rainfall in large areas of the mainland starting this Sunday, 5 March. But the rain will take a little longer to arrive in Malaga, as the weather front enters from the west of the country and moves to the east.
– By Sunday afternoon there may already be rain in the Huelva, Seville and Cadiz provinces of Andalucía, which would reach Malaga on Monday. It is expected that from noon there will be precipitation in the southern half of the mainland, also accompanied by some storms and even hailstorms. The rainfall will be less intense in the north of Spain this time. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/atlantic-front-set-bring-rain-back-the-20230305071926-nt.html

Prince Harry says psychedelics are ‘fundamental’ part of his life:
– Prince Harry recently spoke openly about his recreational use of psychedelics. The Duke of Sussex, 38, revealed during an online chat with trauma expert Gabor Maté Saturday that drugs have helped him deal with his past traumas.
– His choice of inquisitor was controversial as Dr Maté has been roundly criticised for advocating the use of psychedelic drugs including the South American drug ayahuasca, which makes users vomit.
– The Duke of Sussex cheerfully described taking the hallucinogenic ayahuasca, saying it ‘changed me’ and describing it as ‘cleaning the windscreen’ of his troubled mind. Harry also appeared to advocate for illegal drugs, at one point saying: ‘Marijuana really did help me.’ Meghan Markle’s husband recently admitted to taking other drugs — such as cocaine and marijuana — as a teenager in his bombshell book, “Spare,” which was released in January. Harry wrote about trying magic mushrooms while attending a party in the home of actress Courtney Cox. “My mate and I grabbed several, gobbled them, washed them down with tequila,” Harry wrote, before recounting his hallucinations, which included a trash can transforming into a head. “I stepped on the pedal and the head opened its mouth. A huge open grin. I laughed,” he added. TRAVEL NEWS

EU Citizens Will Have to Apply for a Travel Authorisation to Enter UK by the End of 2024:
– Nationals of the European Union Member States will have to apply for an online travel authorisation in order to be able to travel to the United Kingdom by the end of 2024. Exempt will be only Irish passport holders.
– Since the divorce from the EU that started in 2016 and was finalised in 2020, the government of the UK has continuously looked into ways of strengthening its borders, and security, and one of the ways through which it wants to do that, is the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– The ETA has been introduced through the Nationality and Borders Bill for those passengers who are visiting the UK, as well as those transiting through the country who do not currently need a visa for short stays. The ETA will be obligatory for those who do not already have an immigration status prior to travelling, as well.
– “The scheme will give the UK more control of our borders, allowing us to block threats from entering the UK, whilst also providing individuals, and carriers, with more assurance at an earlier point in time about their ability to travel to the UK,” the UK Home Office notes in a policy paper regarding the ETA.
– It is still unknown what price travellers obtaining a UK ETA will have to pay, however, it will be cheaper than obtaining a UK visa. Full article: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/eu-citizens-will-have-to-apply-for-a-travel-authorisation-to-enter-uk-by-the-end-of-2024/

Hospital admissions for shingles spiral in Spain: According to a study by Eurosurveillance, the journal published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the surge in hospitalisations for shingles in Spain constitutes “a public health problem that must be prioritised” by the healthcare authorities. Sanidad has announced plans to vaccinate over-65s and immunosuppressed patients, the two groups in danger of developing more severe health complications from the infection also known as herpes zoster. Racing News- F1 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix starting grid with penalties applied:
– Max Verstappen secured the first pole position of the year as the Red Bull driver looks to claim his third world title in succession.
– He is joined on the front row by team-mate Sergio Perez with the Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz following behind. This came despite Leclerc electing not to complete a second run in Q3, a decision that dropped him off the front row but saved a set of fresh soft tyres for the grand prix. SPACE

Elon Musk’s satellites are ruining the view of space telescopes: ‘It’s getting worse’:
– At first glance, one may assume that the images were damaged by a technical glitch: distant galaxies with streaks that cut through them, blank stripes that cover half the picture, lines that dirty entire constellations. But all those astronomical observations, that have been spoiled for science, actually reveal a problem: how the skies are being increasingly filled with artificial satellites from internet companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink. The swarms of devices were already a problem for ground-based observatories, but a recent study found that they also ruin observations from space telescopes, something that is raising concern among astronomers. In 2021, 5.9% of the images captured by the legendary Hubble telescope suffered from this photobombing caused by these artifacts’ trails.
– That same year (when the study’s last measurement was taken) Starlink had deployed about 1,900 satellites. Today, they are close to 3,600, and the number is expected to multiply by 10 – and to reach 100,000 in total, counting those deployed by the competition – by the end of this decade. SCIENCE

Cosmic Rays Reveal A Hidden Corridor in the Great Pyramid of Giza:
– Archaeologists and physicists on the ScanPyramids project discovered the corridor thanks to an invisible rain of high-energy particles from distant supernovae. These subatomic particles, called cosmic rays (even though they’re made of very fast-moving, tiny bits of matter, not light), are constantly bombarding our planet from space. Rock absorbs cosmic rays; the thicker and denser the layer of rock, the more cosmic rays it absorbs. So by measuring how many cosmic rays make it through a structure like the Great Pyramid, researchers can learn whether there are any empty spaces hidden inside, or if it’s just solid rock.
– In a recent announcement to the press, the head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, told reporters that the corridor may have been built to redistribute the weight of millions of massive limestone blocks to take some pressure off other chambers nearby — either the pyramid’s original entrance or other rooms yet to be found. The pyramid’s ancient builders did the same thing with five small rooms above Khufu’s burial chamber. Full article: https://www.inverse.com/science/cosmic-rays-great-pyramid

The Civil Guard warns of a message about the check for 200 euros: what should you do if it reaches your mobile: {Translation}
– The Civil Guard has warned this Friday, through its official Twitter account, of an attempted scam in which cybercriminals impersonate the Tax Agency. “The campaign is a “smishing” campaign, impersonating the Tax Agency. Fraudulent requests are made, to update payment information, in order to receive 200 euros in financial aid from the Government”, says the Benemérita in a tweet. “Don’t bite, the aim of the fraud is to steal personal and banking data,” adds the armed forces, which accompanies a link to the Internet Security Office, where it explains the fraud in detail.
– According to OSI, victims are “all those who have received the fraudulent SMS and provided personal or bank details”.
– “If you have received an SMS with the above characteristics, but have not accessed the link, block it and delete it from your inbox,” the agency recommends.
– If you have accessed the URL and provided your personal and bank card details when you received this message, you should: *Contact your bank to report the incident and block all unauthorised transactions.
*In the coming months, review the movements of your bank account and, in case of any unknown or unauthorised movements, contact your bank immediately to cancel them.
*Change your security codes and credit card PIN as soon as possible.
*Collect all the evidence of the fraud: bank statements, URL of the fraudulent page to which you provided the data and all the information you can provide in order to file a report with the FCSE. MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Craft Markets: I have been painting wooden boxes since 2021 and am looking for somewhere to display and sell them. I was going to have a table at the El Zoco market in Nerja, but this closed down the day before. My big problem is I have no transport of my own and so could not get to, for example, the market at Vinuela.
Are there any other “crafters” in a similar position? Perhaps we could get together and work something out. I do not want to resort to selling them individually if I can help it, because this would be too much hassle. If three or four of us could agree maybe we could share a space and set up a small market close to home, or perhaps some kind soul could provide the wheels!
Carole, El Morche. Please email me and I will reply.

SPAIN

Deadly processionary caterpillars make an early appearance in Spain:
– According to Anecpla, the rising temperatures and low rainfall is causing a systematic advance of the first specimens of processionary caterpillars, well before they usually appear in late spring.
– Despite being barely 4 centimetres long, the processionary can cause harm to animals much larger than itself. Due to the high toxicity of their trichomes, these insects are extremely dangerous, especially for children and domestic animals. In the case of pets, especially dogs, this contact can even lead to death, warned the general director of Anecpla.

Calahonda Beach Development Plan: The Town Hall has finally managed to formalise the contract with the company Cielo de Montera S.L. for the drafting of the project, construction and operation of the restaurant on Calahonda beach with an investment of 964,811.44 euros and an annual fee of 72,000 euros for 25 years, once the appeal lodged by one of the bidders has been rejected.
José Alberto Armijo has expressed his satisfaction, stressing that it will be a modern, sustainable and quality restaurant, which will be a new gastronomic and tourist attraction for this popular beach and the surroundings of the Balcón de Europa. (No mention of the actual beach facilities to be provided. I guess that’s not their priority. -Ed.) What is the ES-Alert notice and why it is very important that you activate it on your mobile?:
{Translation, summary}
– The Es-Alert makes it possible to give general alert notices to the population in emergency situations or catastrophes in a territory directly through the mobile phone. Since last Wednesday it has been operational throughout Spain.
– The communication is an alert that appears on the mobile screen of those users who are within the area affected by the emergency and remains on the screen. In addition, the phone emits a distinctive loud beep for a few seconds and produces a vibration.
*How to activate ES-Alert*
– To turn on the alerts function, “you must make sure that you have the ‘Allow Alerts’ and ‘Test Alerts’ options activated.
– If it is an Android phone, wireless emergency alerts should be activated by default. To check it, the agency provides the following path: Go to ‘Settings > Security and emergencies > Wireless Emergency Alerts. On some versions of Android, it is found in ‘Passwords and Security’ or in ‘Apps and Notifications’.
– If you still cannot find it, write the word ‘Alerts’ (or, failing that, ‘Emergency Alerts’ or ‘Civil Protection’) in the ‘Settings’ search engine. Next, make sure you have vibrate mode activated and activate the ‘Test Alerts’ button, as well as the ‘Alert Reminder’.
– Those who have an iPhone should activate it using the following route: ‘Settings’ > ‘Notifications’ > ‘Civil Protection Pre-alerts’. The name ‘ES-Alert’, at the bottom of the list of all the apps you have activated.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLEGENCE (AI)

Windows 12 Could Be The Ultimate Snoop: {DigameXtra}
– Microsoft (MS) insiders have made posts to tech forums saying that AI, similar to the BingAI  MS just added to Bing Search, will be integrated into Win 12. This has serious implications for users; it will bring user tracking to a whole new level, feeding MS’s insatiable appetite for data. Apple has begun adding AI features to its systems as well.
-MS is already able to monitor every website you visit, every search you do, every location you use the internet from, every email & message, every financial transaction and every key stroke you make. In some cases your cam & mic watch and listen to you. They can even find your lost laptop even if it’s not connected to the Internet. That last trick does require you to enable this function when you first setup your system. This data collection happens on a system level and your VPN can’t prevent it from being sent to Microsoft via Windows “Telemetry” services. Some of this can be minimized using the proper settings and software, but to do that effectively is beyond the scope of most people.
– With Win 12, AI will be able to record your physical activity: your typing speed & accuracy and how these vary at different times, your reaction time to prompts, times of the day you dim your screen or turn up your audio, and more. People type faster when excited, slower when tired, make more typos when drunk or angry, etc. If you have a health app or smartwatch, AI will collect that info too, so it will know your blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature and more. (DoctorLaptop predicted all this 10 years ago in the old Digame-Torrox blog, and was called a “tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist” by some poorly informed readers at the time. -Ed.)
– Your daily routine will be analysed over time and patterns identified. AI will use this to build a much more accurate physical, behavioral and emotional profile of you than Microsoft has now. This will be constantly updated. It will never forget any details. And the info will be available to the highest bidder, as well as Microsoft business partners.
– Windows 12 is due to be released in mid/late 2024, say insiders. They add that Microsoft now plans to release a new version of Windows every 3 years.
– The way to avoid this is to quit Windows and Apple, and switch to Linux. Of course, despite all the advantages of a Linux system, that will be deemed too inconvenient by the masses. References: https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/1/23618276/microsoft-windows-12-intel-hints AND

SCIENCE

The DNA of a man from 23,000 years ago suggests that the Iberian Peninsula was an isolated refuge in the Ice Age:
– DNA from two 23,000-year-old adult male teeth recovered from the “bad lunch cave” (Granada) has helped to understand that chapter of the past. The remains suggest that the Iberian Peninsula served as climate shelter for Paleolithic hunter gatherers during the Glacial Maximum.
As the center and west of the continent became depopulated, Iberia acted as a gene pool: not only did it maintain its population for tens of thousands of years, but later, when the climate was more benign, it expanded again across the continent.
– Dated by radiocarbon, the man from Malalmuerzo, a cave with some colorful cave paintings, is the oldest recovered in the south of the peninsula. It survived at the peak of the glacial maximum. We only have two teeth, but they have been lucky because they have given us a lot of information. By comparing their DNA with that of another 35,000-year-old individual from Belgium, we have seen that they have a clear genetic connection. It shows absolute genetic continuity despite the Ice Age. On the other hand, the researchers find no genetic connections between the populations of Iberia and North Africa. It has been suggested that there were contacts through the Strait of Gibraltar because in the Ice Age the sea level dropped 160 meters, but they have not been found. SPAIN

Girls aged 16 and 17 now able to abort without parental permission: {Translation, summary}
– Girls aged 16 and 17 will be able to terminate their pregnancy without parental permission as of this Thursday, March 2, while the leave due to menstruation or termination of pregnancy will take effect at the beginning of June.
– In addition, the rule also eliminates the three days of reflection, guarantees that the termination of pregnancy can be carried out in public hospitals and shields abortion against anti-abortion protocols such as the one proposed by Vox in Castilla y León. Specifically, through a transactional amendment introduced during the processing of the Law in the Senate, also supported by the PP, it was established that the administrations “will ensure that the applicant is not the recipient of practices that seek to alter, either to strengthen, revoke or delay the formation of your will regarding the interruption or not of your pregnancy” with “the exception of essential and pertinent clinical information”. Spaniards over 16 now able to change their sex in the Civil Registry, without any requirements: {Translation, summary}
– Spaniards over 16 years of age will be able to change their name and sex in the Civil Registry from this Thursday, March 2 without any requirement, other than the express wish of the applicant, with the entry into force of the Trans Law.
– Starting this Thursday, it will be enough for anyone who so wishes to request a registration change in writing, without the need to present evidence or witnesses. This decision must be ratified by the applicant three months later, while the Administration will have one more month. That is, the process will last about four months maximum.
– The entry into force of this rule also allows minors between 14 and 16 years of age to change their name and gender, although in their case they must have the consent of their parents or guardians for their request. In the event that a minor does not have their consent, a judicial defender will be appointed to resolve the conflict.
– In addition, children from 12 to 14 years old can change the gender as long as the minor has the authorization of a judge, who will examine their maturity; while minors under 12 years of age cannot change the registry mention of the sex, their name can be changed to adjust it to the gender with which they identify.
– The law allows that in six months a trans person can request to return to their original sex in the same way that they requested it. In the event that she wanted to modify it for the third time, then she would have to go through a judge, who would decide if there were signs of legal fraud. ANDALUCIA

With one exception, Baza registers the lowest temperature in Andalusia with a minimum of -7.1ºC: {Translation}

Behind them are the city of Granada, which registered a temperature of 6.1 degrees below zero at the airport at 07:40, and the Cordovan municipality of Espiel, with 5.7 degrees below zero at 07:50.
– The absolute coldest point of the Andalusian community is located again this Wednesday, as it cannot be otherwise, in Sierra Nevada, though not generally accessible to the public. The Government authorizes two areas on the Andalusian coast for offshore wind projects: {Translation, summary}
– On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers approved Spain’s first maritime spatial plans which, among other issues, define the areas in which offshore wind energy may be developed, which together amount to 5,000 square kilometres, 0.46% of national waters.
– The president of the National Federation of Fishing Guilds (FNCP), Basilio Otero, has harshly criticized this approval by the Government of Spain. He assures that these plans are “the greatest outrage of the Government against fishing in recent times.”

Gay male couples lead adoption applications in Malaga province by wide margin:
– The profile of people registering to adopt a child in Malaga has changed greatly in the past decade. Ten years ago there were practically no same sex couples that started the procedures to adopt. Now, these account for 75 per cent of the requests that reach the child protection system.
“Right now it is couples made up of men who are mostly offering themselves as adoptive families,” explains the delegate of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Junta de Andalucía, Ruth Sarabia. Harry and Meghan ‘stunned’ and two other royals ‘appalled’ over Frogmore Cottage ‘eviction’:
– King Charles decided to evict Harry and Meghan from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor (pic) – and offered the couple’s only home in the UK to Prince Andrew, it has been claimed.
– Buckingham Palace issued an eviction notice to the couple just days after the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare, Omid Scobie, one of the authors behind Harry and Meghan’s biography, revealed. The Sussexes were told the property was needed for “someone else” as relations between them and the rest of the royals remain at “an all-time low”, Mr. Scobie claimed. Harry and Meghan most recently renewed their lease on the property in May 2022, after Princess Eugenie and her partner left the estate. It is unknown whether they plan to fight the “eviction”.
– The Sussexes are now drawing up plans to ship their remaining belongings to the US while Prince Andrew has been offered the property, it is understood. Mr Scobie said they had been given until after the Coronation in summer to remove their belongings after initially being told they would have just two weeks.
– It comes after it was reported that Andrew was also being “evicted” from his from 30-room royal mansion. He has lived in the Royal Lodge, which has a 98-acre estate, since 2003, when he secured a 75-year lease. But the property is expensive to keep up and already in need of repairs – and Charles is planning to cut Andrew’s £249,000 annual allowance. Andrew is said to be against the move but Harry and Meghan will be forced to leave the cottage – their only remaining home in the UK – regardless of whether he moves in or not. FBI director says Covid pandemic likely caused by China lab leak: FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Tuesday the agency has assessed that a leak from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, likely caused the COVID-19 pandemic. “The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan,” Wray told Fox News. Wray said he couldn’t share many details of the agency’s assessment because they were classified. He accused the Chinese government of “doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate” efforts by the United States and others to learn more about the pandemic’s origins. ENERGY CRISIS

The electricity bill rises again in the second most expensive February in history- it increases by 36% compared to the previous month: {Translation, summary}
– The average user receipt has risen to 91.61 euros, compared to 67.20 euros in January, according to Facua.
– The electricity bill shoots up to its all-time high: Spaniards pay 1,538 euros per year on average, twice as much as two years ago.
– This has been the second most expensive February in history. The bill is around 92 euros (with only 131.29 euros from a year ago ahead), which means that the price of electricity has increased by 36.3% for the average user compared to the month of January.
– A Facua analysis published this Wednesday on the evolution of the semi-regulated tariff (PVPC), which indicates that a user with a contracted power of 4.4 kilowatts (kW) and a consumption of 366 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month will pay in February 91.61 euros, compared to 67.20 euros in January.
– However, it remains far from the high levels registered in 2022 due to the energy crisis derived from the war in Ukraine. In this way, the evolution with respect to the receipt of February 2022 represents a year-on-year decrease of 30.2%. SPACE

What is the Venus-Jupiter conjunction and how can you view it?:
– Tonight and tomorrow night (1st and 2nd March), skywatchers will be treated to an unusual sight as two planets will align in such a way that it will appear as if they are touching each other in space. Jupiter, the solar system’s largest planet, and Venus, the brightest, will come together in what is called a conjunction.
– It is possible to see the conjunction – visible in the western sky – with the naked eye. This is because of the size of the planets involved. But you can also use binoculars or a telescope.
– While it may seem like the two planetary bodies are touching, they actually aren’t. They are around 600 million kilometres apart, and so a conjunction is nothing to worry about – although in the past, some people did find the events concerning. New rise in inflation despite government measures- it grows at 6.1% and core inflation marks a new maximum: {Translation, summary}
– Prices keep going up. According to the provisional data released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics ( INE ), inflation has risen two tenths in February, to register a general rate of 6.1%. This is the second consecutive month of rise, which coincides with the second month of reduction in VAT on food. Statistics attributes the rise to the rise in the price of electricity and food and non-alcoholic beverages. For its part, subjacent inflation -without counting energy and unprocessed food- has risen to 7.7%, registering a new maximum in the historical series. Source, Spanish:

New Education Priorities? Spanish primary school teachers will receive the same hours of training in “gender equality” as in mathematics, science or language – will cut Maths training to a third of current levels!:
{Translation, summary}
– Primary Education teachers will receive the same hours of training in gender equality as in Mathematics, Language and Literature, Social Sciences or Natural Sciences, since all these subjects will mean six credits in the degree. This is reflected by the Ministry of Universities in the draft Order that establishes the requirements for the verification of the study plans leading to the obtaining of the official university degrees that qualify for the exercise of the profession of teacher in Primary Education, consulted by Europa Press.
– The Royal Spanish Mathematical Society (RSME) has criticized that the Ministry of Universities proposes to reduce the compulsory training in mathematics for graduates in Primary Education and its didactics to 6 credits (60 hours) out of a total of 240 credits. The initial approach that the Ministry of Universities has made in the order project, as RSME has warned, leaves the credits for compulsory training in mathematics and its didactics “in a third of the current ones”.
– For the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, this “would mean decimating this specialty”, since currently the average number of compulsory credits for training in mathematics and its didactics in public universities is above 18 credits. The Royal Spanish Mathematical Society has warned that “it is impossible” to improve the mathematical competence of Spanish children “by reducing the mathematical and didactic training of Primary school teachers”. TRAVEL NEWS

Ticket prices tumble on Madrid to Malaga high-speed trains due to increased competition:
– Due to a increase in departures and the arrival next month of a new operator, Iryo, commuters have some fresh hope when travelling between Malaga and Madrid. Prices have already begun to fall. On Renfe’s AVE service, a return trip between Madrid and Malaga on the last weekend of March is currently 118.70 euros. With private operator Iryo, for those same dates, you can pick up a return for 96 euros.
– Some people still choose to fly between Malaga and Madrid with five daily flights operated by Iberia and Air Europa between the cities, with offers sometimes available at 80 euros for a return trip. For now, at least, travelling by train seems to have become a little easier and cheaper. TECH

AGAIN? LastPass Password-Saver App Reveals Second Attack Resulting in Breach of Encrypted Password Vaults:
– In December 2022, LastPass revealed that the threat actor leveraged the stolen information to access a cloud-based storage environment and get hold of “certain elements of our customers’ information.”
– Now according to the company, the threat actor engaged in a new series of “reconnaissance, enumeration, and exfiltration activities” aimed at its cloud storage service between August and October 2022.
“Specifically, the threat actor was able to leverage valid credentials stolen from a senior DevOps engineer to access a shared cloud storage environment,” LastPass said, adding the engineer “had access to the decryption keys needed to access the cloud storage service.”
– LastPass users are highly recommended to change their master passwords and all the passwords stored in their vaults to mitigate potential risks, if not done already. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2023/02/lastpass-reveals-second-attack.html
