Company confirms to the judge that the Complutense University’s software website belonged to Begoña Gómez: {Translation, summary}
– Begoña Gómez, wife of Spain’s Prime Minister, is under investigation for alleged misappropriation related to a software platform linked to an Extraordinary Chair she directed at the Complutense University of Madrid. The digital services firm Arsys confirmed that the domain “transformatsc.org” was registered initially by a coordinator of the chair, then transferred to Gómez.
– Despite Gómez’s claim that domain registration followed university guidance, the university denied authorising or managing the domain, noting required forms were never submitted. In September 2024, Gómez informed the university she would not renew the domain due to administrative and judicial issues. Shortly after a complaint was forwarded to the court, the website was deleted, raising suspicions of evidence tampering.
– The judge is probing allegations against Gómez, including influence peddling, corruption, and misuse of public resources. The case centres on whether Gómez improperly registered and controlled the platform for personal gain, without university authorisation, and whether she leveraged her position for corrupt purposes. This investigation forms part of wider corruption concerns involving political figures linked to the Prime Minister. Excessive taxes drive the black market- 18 people released who worked in inhumane conditions in two illegal tobacco factories making 8 million bootleg cigarettes a day in Malaga & Córdoba: {Translation}
– The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency, have dismantled a criminal organisation accused of establishing illegal factories producing counterfeit and smuggled tobacco in the provinces of Málaga and Córdoba. In the operation, twenty-one people have been arrested and eighteen of various nationalities have been freed, who were working under inhumane conditions.
– The investigation began after learning of the alleged installation of an illegal tobacco production factory in a town in the province of Málaga, they indicated in a statement. A surveillance operation was thus established on one of the principal suspects belonging to the organisation, leading the agents to a second factory located in the province of Córdoba.
– Following the search of both clandestine factories, items typical of fraudulent manufacturing valued at more than three million euros were seized. It is estimated that the organisation had a daily production capacity of eight million counterfeit cigarettes, representing a fraud against the Public Treasury exceeding two million euros per day.
– Furthermore, the Civil Guard established that the organisation recruited individuals from Asian and Eastern European countries by various means, offering them very attractive working conditions. Once these individuals arrived in national territory, they were taken by members of the organisation to the aforementioned factories, where they were held captive, living in overcrowded conditions and working in inhumane circumstances.
– The agents confirmed that these people were being exploited labour-wise through continuous shifts without rest, without any payment and were told they had to repay an alleged debt contracted with the organisation. The investigation concluded with the arrest of twenty-one individuals, who have been charged with crimes of human trafficking, fraud against the Public Treasury, tobacco smuggling, membership of a criminal organisation, and offences against industrial property. The operation was carried out by the Operational Units of Customs Surveillance in Málaga and Sevilla, the Organic Judicial Police Unit of Sevilla, and the Roca Team of the municipality of Antequera, both of the Civil Guard. Unlocking Andalucía’s Economic Potential- Why Independence Makes Sense: {DigameXtra Exclusive, 4 part article}
Part 3 of 4, final part Monday
*Emerging Sectors- Renewable Energy, Sports, and Entertainment*
– Renewable energy, particularly solar power, represents a fast-growing but underexploited sector in Andalucía. Blessed with abundant sunlight, the region has significant potential to become a leader in sustainable energy generation. However, bureaucratic hurdles linked to centralized governance have slowed project approvals and infrastructure investment.
– Sports and entertainment industries complement Andalucía’s economic diversification. The region hosts prominent football clubs whose revenue streams from ticket sales, merchandising, and broadcasting contribute hundreds of millions of euros annually. Additionally, golf tourism on the Costa del Sol attracts affluent visitors, and numerous music and cultural festivals generate significant spending and employment across urban and rural areas.
– Film production, cultural events, and festivals further bolster the creative economy, with local stakeholders asserting that independence would allow for better-targeted investments and incentives to enhance competitiveness in these sectors.
*Maritime Industries*
– Though not the primary economic driver, maritime-related industries significantly contribute to Andalucía’s economy. Major ports, including Algeciras, Málaga, Huelva, and Cádiz, serve as crucial logistics hubs, facilitating millions of tons of cargo annually and supporting thousands of jobs in shipping, freight forwarding, and associated services.
– Fishing remains a traditional livelihood in coastal communities, supplying local and export markets while linking to processing industries.
– Nautical tourism, through numerous marinas and sailing facilities, adds to the economic fabric by attracting recreational boaters and high-spending visitors. With the ‘Andalusian Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy’ set to accelerate innovation and sustainability in maritime sectors, these industries are poised for growth, further enriching the region’s diversified economic base.
*Structural Challenges and Fiscal Imbalances*
– Despite Andalucía’s vast resources and economic activity, its GDP per capita stands at approximately €23,200, about 25% below the national average. The unemployment rate remains stubbornly high at around 16.1% in early 2025, significantly exceeding the Spanish average of 11.4%.
Regional officials point to persistent fiscal underfunding, estimating that Andalucía receives up to €1.5 billion less annually compared to other autonomous communities with similar populations and economic contributions.
– This underfunding affects public services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development, which are critical to supporting economic growth and social well-being.
– Independent fiscal management, supporters argue, would allow Andalucía to retain more revenue generated within its borders and direct spending to priority areas that reflect local realities.

Italy gives final go-ahead for landmark Sicily bridge project:
– Italy’s government gave final approval on Wednesday to the construction of what will be the world’s longest single-span bridge, linking Sicily to the mainland, despite environmental, financial and other concerns that have delayed it for decades. The 3.7-kilometre (2.3-mile) structure, set to break the record currently held by Turkey’s Canakkale Bridge across the Dardanelles, has been under discussion since at least the late 1960s as a tool to develop Italy’s poorer south.
– The right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made it a priority and has set aside 13.5 billion euros ($15.63 billion) over the next 10 years to build it and surrounding facilities. The Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS) gave its green light to the project during a meeting in Rome, paving the way for the start of construction work.
– The bridge to Sicily should be ready in 2032, the Messina Strait Company said. Wednesday’s approval will allow the start of preliminary works, including archaeological and geological surveys. Land expropriations will also be authorised. The Court of Auditors, however, will first need to validate the committee’s decision. A source close to the matter said this could take a few weeks, and Salvini said work could start in September-October. UK
First migrants detained under UK-France returns deal, Starmer confirms:
– The first migrants who arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel have been detained under the new “one in, one out” deal with France, the prime minister has confirmed.
The first detentions came after people arrived in Dover on Wednesday, the first day the pilot scheme came into force.
– The agreement, announced by the prime minister in a joint press conference with Emmanuel Macron last month, means that any adult migrant who crosses the Channel will now be at risk of return if their claim for asylum is considered inadmissible.
– For each small boat migrant sent back across the English Channel, an asylum seeker will be allowed to enter the UK from France under a legal route. UK officials aim to make referrals for returns to France within three days of a person’s arrival by small boat while French authorities will respond within 14 days. Adults and families in France are now able to express an interest in coming to the UK through an online platform set up by the Home Office. They will have to meet suitability criteria, standard visa application process and security checks.
– However, there is confusion over whether the UK-France deal leaves open a loophole which would allow for human rights claims to hold up deportations.
– Labour has put a pledge to crack down on the number of people coming to the UK on small boats at the centre of its plan for government. But with boat crossings at a record high, and the asylum backlog still above 75,000, there is mounting pressure on ministers to take more drastic action – pressure which is exacerbated by the success of Reform UK in the polls.
– Last week figures showed that the number of migrants arriving in the UK after crossing the English Channel topped 25,000 – the earliest point in a calendar year at which the 25,000 mark has been passed since data on Channel crossings was first reported in 2018. MIDDLE EAST
Israeli Security Cabinet to vote on full Gaza takeover plan, fighting estimated to last 5 months:
– The Israeli Security Cabinet is set to convene on Thursday evening to vote on a proposal for the full military occupation of Gaza, aimed at defeating the Hamas terrorist organization – despite opposition from IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir.
– On Wednesday night, Hebrew media published several details of the plan, which calls for a large-scale military operation that would see the entry of five IDF divisions into the Gaza Strip to take over Gaza City and the central camps. Israel estimates this operation could take five months.
– The plan would also see the relocation of up to one million Palestinian evacuees from the central areas of the Strip into the south, and to focus the entry of humanitarian aid within that area. It is unclear from the reports whether this would involve the plan for a humanitarian city in Rafah, proposed by Defence Minister Israel Katz, which Zamir has also opposed.
– The vote on the proposed plan will take place in the Security Cabinet meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday. While several ministers, such as Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, allegedly do not favour occupying the Gaza Strip, political analysts in Israel believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will likely secure a majority in the vote.

CULTURAL REVOLUTION
PP and Vox approve in Jumilla (Murcia) the first measure in Spain that prevents Islamic celebrations in public places: {Translation, summary}
– In Jumilla, Murcia, the Popular Party (PP) and Vox took a firm stand by approving Spain’s first measure to prohibit Islamic celebrations in public spaces, signalling a crucial defence of Spain’s historic customs and Christian roots. This legislation claims to protect the cultural identity of the Spanish people against the imposition of foreign practices pushed by ideological concessions and external pressures.
– Vox lauded this move as historic, affirming Spain’s character as a land founded on Christian traditions. The motion asserts the importance of public spaces reflecting Spain’s heritage, halting public celebrations such as Ramadan and Eid that do not align with native customs.
– While parties such as PSOE and left-wing groups oppose this measure, branding it unfair or exclusionary, the PP say their true priority is to maintain social cohesion rooted in respect for Spain’s own values while defending Spanish identity. NASA’s Perseverance Rover Captures Mars Vista As Clear As Day:
– The imaging team of NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover took advantage of clear skies on the Red Planet to capture one of the sharpest panoramas of its mission so far. Visible in the mosaic, which was stitched together from 96 images taken at a location the science team calls “Falbreen,” are a rock that appears to lie on top of a sand ripple, a boundary line between two geologic units, and hills as distant as 40 miles (65 kilometers) away. The enhanced-color version shows the Martian sky to be remarkably clear and deceptively blue, while in the natural-color version, it’s reddish.

The Sturgeon Moon 2025 this weekend:
– This weekend’s full Moon – the Sturgeon Moon 2025 – will rise on 9 and 10 August in the southeast between 8pm and 9pm, timings varying slightly depending on your exact location.
– See the Sturgeon Moon 2025 rise and you’ll get a chance to witness a strange optical effect known as the Moon illusion. It happens when the Moon is low on the horizon and looks much bigger than normal. If you’ve ever witnessed the Moon illusion, it can be a rather startling sight. Under the right conditions, it does look enormous. No-one can exactly pinpoint why the Moon illusion happens, but it’s all a matter of perspective. It’s likely caused by foreground objects like buildings and trees appearing tiny in comparison to the bright full Moon, thereby making the Moon itself look huge. Join us for a time of Holy Spirit led worship and experience the presence of our God. Our teaching is Bible based as we honour God and obey His Word. During this time of uncertainty, God’s Word reminds us that the Gospel shines brightest in times of darkness. Our service lasts for about 1 hour and 30 mins. With Tea and Coffee afterwards.
– Prayer Meeting:
You are also welcome to join our prayer meetings on Wednesday mornings at 11.00am for 1 hour, where we meet for prayer and worship.
– Jesus said: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. (John 14:6)

The church meeting hall is situated at: Res: El Olivar 5, 8 Bajo 1, Calle Arbequin, Velez Malaga 29700.

Harvey DOB 03/23 & Wolfie DOB 09/21. 2 Stunning males, both fully vaccinated and neutered, good with other dogs and seem to ignore cats. Sadly, due to ill health of their owner, they are in need of new homes. They have been the perfect pets, and love people, going for walks, and just want to please.
– Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport. 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, neutered and passport. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
