Malaga Puppet Festival: 27 to 30 June
The Eduardo Ocón Auditorium in the Paseo del Parque is the main stage for this festival. The puppet shows are suitable for children from 3 upwards and all performances are free and start at 8pm. Note too that the shows are in Spanish, but puppets are universal, so it should be relatively easy to follow.
– Friday 27 June – Maricastaña
– Saturday 28 June – The Dragon’s Spell
– Sunday 29 June – Litte Red Riding Hood’s Puppets
– Monday 30 June – Peneque’s Magic Curtain

Malaga Flamenco Festival free events:
– 26 June at 7pm in the Auditorio Edgar Neville in the Diputación building on the western seafront. Flamenco festival showcasing international talent. This year’s invited artists have danced their way over from France, China and the US. Free entry, but get there early to be sure of a seat.
– Friday 27 June and Saturday 28 June on Calle Alcazabilla at 10pm. Some of Spain’s best singers will perform with true maestros on guitar. For example, on the Saturday, ‘Flamenco de siempre’ features José de la Tomasa (Video Link), Vicente Soto ‘Sordera’, Juana la del Pipa and Concha Vargas. Expect a magical atmosphere with spine-tingling music against the floodlit backdrop of the Roman Theatre and Alcazaba Fortress. And under the stars!

Feria de la Caleta de Velez: 3, 4, 5 & 6 July.
– Thursday, July 3. Municipal Band 21:00. After party with Palomares DJ.
– Friday 4 July. The day will include the traditional Sardine Barbecue, performances by local dance groups, the band Hakunna Matata, and musical closure once again with Palomares DJ.
– Saturday 5 July. Saturday night will open with a performance by Ban Pao, followed by the presentation of the local sports club’s youth teams. The most anticipated moment will come with the headline performance by Sami Duque, scheduled for 12:30 am, and the evening will close with music from Sau DJ.
– Sunday 6 July. Sunday will begin with the Public Paella prepared by the Sin Edades Association, along with performances by local dance groups and the band Ñ Clan. Palomares DJ will bring the daytime fair to a close. In the evening the fair will conclude with performances by the dance groups of Antonio and Elsa Guerra.

Patio de Caballos at the Antequera bullring. 3 live rock bands, headlined by Aljamia (Video Link)
Doors will open at 9:00 p.m. and performances will begin half an hour later, at 9:30 p.m. Admission will be free until capacity is reached. The event will feature bar service and a display of local crafts organised by the Mollete Kolektiv Association.

Windows 10 Security Updates one year extension plan, should be available by Mid-August:
– Microsoft on Tuesday announced that it’s extending Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) for an extra year by letting users pay a small fee of $30.
– The development comes ahead of the tech giant’s upcoming October 14, 2025, deadline, when it plans to officially end support and stop providing security updates for devices running Windows 10. The desktop operating system was launched in July 2015.
– The Windows maker describes ESU as a “last resort option” for customers who need to run legacy Microsoft software that has reached end-of-life (EoL) status. This is meant to be a temporary solution while migrating to a newer supported platform.

Meta confirms technical error suspended thousands of Facebook Groups:
– Meta is blaming a technical error for suspending thousands of Facebook Groups, in the United States and internationally, angering millions of users. The company confirmed the problem Tuesday and said it is working to fix it.
– The Facebook Groups reported receiving warnings, which cited violations for nudity or “terrorism-related” content. All of the groups deny the violations. Among the many groups suspended were some focused on bird-watching, parenting support, as well as dog owners or gaming groups. An interior design group was flagged for referencing “dangerous organizations.”
– Facebook and Instagram are not the first social networks to experience mass suspensions. Pinterest and Tumblr groups have also reported suspensions in the past few weeks.

Malaga experiences its first hot summer dawn with a minimum temperature of 26C: {Translation, summary}

Up to 50% of patients do not respond to chemotherapy- a test can now predict your response: {Translation, summary}

– The U.S. House of Representatives has formally banned congressional staff members from using WhatsApp on government-issued devices, citing security concerns. The decision, according to the House Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), was motivated by worries about the app’s security.
– “The Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high-risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use,” the CAO said in a memo, according to Axios. To that end, House staff are prohibited from downloading the app on any device issued by the government, including its mobile, desktop, or web browser versions.

RIP Mick Ralphs, founding member of Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, dies at 81:
– Mick Ralphs, a guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member of the classic British rock bands Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, has died.
– Born in Stoke Lacy, Herefordshire, England, Ralphs began playing blues guitar as a teenager, and in his early 20s in 1966, he co-founded the Doc Thomas Group. In 1969, the band would become Mott the Hoople, a name taken from the title and title character of a 1966 novel by Willard Manus.
– A statement posted to Bad Company’s official website Monday announced Ralphs’ death at age 81. Ralphs had a stroke days after what would be his final performance with the band at London’s O2 Arena in 2016, and had been bedridden ever since, the statement said. No further details on the circumstances of his death were provided.
– Ralphs is set to become a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Bad Company in November.
– Ralphs wrote the 1970’s song “Ready for Love” for Mott the Hoople, later revamped for Bad Company’s 1974 debut album, which also included the Ralphs-penned hit “Can’t Get Enough.” He co-wrote Bad Company’s 1975 classic “Feel Like Makin’ Love” with Rodgers. Russian attacks on Ukraine kill at least 10 and injure dozens:
– Russian drones and missiles killed at least 10 civilians in Ukraine in night time attacks, local officials said Monday, with seven deaths reported in the capital, Kyiv, where emergency crews raced to find people believed trapped under the rubble of a partially collapsed apartment building.

Satellite images indicate severe damage to Fordow, but doubts remain:
– Commercial satellite imagery indicates the U.S. attack on Iran’s Fordow nuclear plant severely damaged – and possibly destroyed – the deeply-buried site and the uranium-enriching centrifuges it housed, but there was no confirmation, experts said on Sunday. The hall containing hundreds of centrifuges is “too deeply buried for us to evaluate the level of damage based on satellite imagery,” said satellite imagery expert Decker Eveleth. Sixteen billion passwords for Apple, Facebook, Google and even government services accounts have been leaked in what experts are calling the single biggest data breach ever:
– The password leak is thought to have come about after multiple infostealers exposed 30 datasets, each one containing anywhere from tens of millions of passwords to over 3.5 billion records.
– Google was quick to warn billions of its users to change their passwords, quickly followed by warnings from other tech giants.
– All but one of the datasets exposed are not thought to have been previously made public, meaning all the sensitive data is new and likely current, as reported by tech news site Cybernews.
– What’s more, the breaches may not be over, with researchers looking into the incident saying that new huge datasets emerge every few weeks, a sign that the infostealer malware is not only still active but also still effective. “This is not just a leak,” said the team of researchers. “It’s a blueprint for mass exploitation. With over 16 billion login records exposed, cybercriminals now have unprecedented access to personal credentials that can be used for account takeover, identity theft, and highly targeted phishing.”

When changing your password, most services will also offer an option to sign yourself out of your account on all devices, which should kick out anyone who has gained access to your account.

Spain stands up and communicates to NATO that it will not raise defence spending to 5% of GDP, adopts classic “mañana” strategy: {Translation}
– The NATO summit, scheduled for 24 and 25 June in The Hague (Netherlands), is shaping up as a decisive event for Western security amid an international landscape marked by the threat from Russia and the open war between Israel and Iran. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte sent a letter on Wednesday to the leaders of the alliance’s 32 member states, advocating for an increase in national defence spending to 5% of each country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an initiative openly supported by US President Donald Trump.
– Spain, which ranks low in defence investment, has already responded firmly, refusing to increase military spending. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez considers it “unreasonable” for Spain to reach that figure within the proposed timeframe, by 2032, and believes it would be “counterproductive” and incompatible with maintaining the welfare state. For Spain, this would mean increasing defence spending by €80 billion annually. Sánchez asserts that this level of investment is “incompatible with our welfare state and our worldview.”
– Several countries, not just Spain, oppose raising defence spending to 5%. They face Trump, who at the last NATO meeting in July 2018—during his first presidential term—threatened that the US would leave the alliance if other members did not significantly increase their defence investments. Given this background, the Hague summit promises to be a high-tension encounter.
– Any agreement must be unanimous and would represent the largest rearmament of the military alliance since the Cold War. In recent months, pressure from the White House and Rutte himself has pushed allies to raise their spending to the current NATO minimum of 2% of GDP. Spain announced at the end of April a defence investment increase of €10.5 billion, which will allow the country to meet the 2% target this year.
– NATO’s latest proposal is for allies to dedicate 3.5% of GDP to direct military investment and another 1.5% to security and defence.
– However, as Rutte has repeatedly warned, NATO must do even more to face the threat posed by Moscow, which shows no interest in negotiating peace in Ukraine and could decide to attack another country at any time. Added to this is the conflict between Israel and Iran, with unpredictable consequences. For this reason, the Dutch leader has proposed to allied country leaders a model consisting of dedicating 3.5% of GDP to direct military investment and another 1.5% to security and defence, an initiative supported by Trump and most allied countries.
– Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles stated on 5 June that Spain wishes to reach an agreement and “will not veto anything,” but insisted that NATO must find a formula that does not set a deadline for reaching a specific defence investment percentage. Evidence is building that people were in the Americas 23,000 years ago:
– The age of “rarely preserved” ancient human footprints dotting the landscape at White Sands National Park in New Mexico has been hotly debated for years. Now, a new study has found that these footprints really are around 23,000 years old — but the date isn’t accepted by everyone.
If the 23,000-year-old age is accurate, it would mean that humans were in North America around the peak of the Last Glacial Maximum, the coldest part of the last ice age — far earlier than archaeologists had previously thought.
– In the new study, the researchers radiocarbon-dated organic sediment in core samples from the site, which provided dates for the footprints as well as for the entire paleolake and river system that once existed there. The analysis was done in labs unaffiliated with earlier studies.
– “Our data supports the original data” that dated the site to 23,000 years ago, study first author Vance Holliday, a professor emeritus of anthropology and geosciences at the University of Arizona, told Live Science. “Plus, we now have an idea of what the landscape was like when people were out there.”
– The new study offers more evidence that the footprints date to the Last Glacial Maximum, when the area was a vast wetland inhabited by ice age animals. The footprints likely came from hunter-gatherers who arrived in the Americas after traveling along the Bering Land Bridge, which connected Siberia and Alaska when sea levels were lower, research suggests.
– For decades, researchers thought the earliest Americans were the Clovis, who lived in North America around 13,000 years ago. But the footprint discovery and others are slowly revealing that Indigenous people reached the Americas much earlier than thought.

– Shortly after, Citroën announced it was placing all affected vehicles under a stop-drive order across Europe. “We have decided to move to a ‘stop drive’ to speed up repairs,” Citroën’s new director Xavier Chardon told the French news agency AFP.
– The company said 441,000 affected cars are still on the road in Europe, including 82,000 in France.
– Takata airbags can explode when exposed to heat and humidity, sending metal fragments into the car. The defect has been linked to dozens of deaths around the world. Huge Data Breach Exposes 16 Billion Apple, Google, Facebook Passwords And More!:
– It might be high time to rotate your least-changed passwords, if not all of them. The research team at Cybernews has been quietly tracking stolen credential datasets released this year, and the figures aren’t good: a total of 16 billion records leaked (so far), including government accounts, Apple, Google, Facebook, Telegram logins, VPN credentials, among many other types of logins.
– The team found 30 exposed, easily accessible datasets with stolen access information, ranging from tens of millions to a humongous one with 3.5 billion records, pertaining to a Portuguese-speaking population (Brazil, if we had to guess given the size). While the provenance and relationship between the contents was sometimes ascertained, many of the datasets were completely unnamed. Additionally, while most of the information is apparently login-password sets, there’s a collection of login tokens and cookies, potentially letting attackers skip some forms of 2FA altogether. The fact that there are government logins and VPN credentials potentially put lives at risk, too.
– You might be wondering if these datasets are just remixes and remasters of old info, but Cybernews claims they’re all freshly pressed collections. The site claims the sets were only exposed on the open internet for a short while, but that can be both a blessing and a curse — while few people only took a look at them, the fact they’re now gone could prevent wider reporting, thus not letting as many users know their info could be compromised.
– Even worse, new datasets of gigantic dimensions are reportedly popping up “every few weeks,” illustrating the point that security professionals have been making for decades now, mostly to deaf ears: there are massive botnets and wide-ranging exploits doing the rounds at any given moment, and these attacks have become a constant threat rather than an occasional one. Cybercriminals love massive datasets as aggregated collections allow them to scale up various types of attacks, such as identity theft, phishing schemes, and unauthorized access.
– Cybernews poignantly states that even with a success rate of less than one percent, at this scale we’re still talking millions of accounts hacked. – Wednesday 18 will be the ‘Children’s Day’ starting at 9:30 with a Musical Workshop with Ba – Ba Music in the CPR Almijara of Árchez. Meta (FakeBook, InstaScam & WhatSpamApp) warns that your Meta AI chatbot conversations may be public! Here’s how to keep them (somewhat) private:
– Meta has added a new pop-up to the Meta AI app, warning users that prompts they post are public. As a general rule, you should never assume that anything you tell an AI chatbot is private. However, it seems some Meta AI users hadn’t realised that their chatbot conversations could be published for the world to see.
– The public Discovery feed in the Meta AI app has been filled with people’s interactions with the chatbot, with multiple publications reporting last week that the app published sometimes sensitive or embarrassing conversations, audio, and images that users likely believed were confidential. Mashable’s own exploration of the app’s Discovery feed also corroborated this, finding Meta AI conversations from heartbroken people going through difficult breakups, attempting to self-diagnose medical conditions, and even posting personal photos it would like the AI to edit. Queries relating to medical issues being publically shared are also common. Users have shared details about bowel movements, hives, rashes, and even post-surgery conditions, including age and occupation details. Many of these accounts appear linked to public Instagram profiles.
– Now Meta AI has added a new warning alerting users that their prompts are public. First reported by Business Insider, this message pops up when you tap the “Share” button- “Prompts you post are public and visible to everyone. Your prompts may be suggested by Meta on other Meta apps. Avoid sharing personal or sensitive information.”
– Specifically, to keep your conversations private, avoid using the “Share” button in Meta AI, which posts conversations to the public Discovery feed.

Data protection prohibits hotels and accommodations from making copies of the ID card of the customer: {Translation}
– Verify the data, yes; keep a copy, no. On Tuesday, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) issued an information note addressed to hotels and tourist accommodations stating that keeping a photograph or photocopy of customers’ ID cards violates privacy regulations. Without proper justification, carrying out this practice for guest registration could be subject to penalties, the agency warns.
– The Agency has issued this statement in relation to Royal Decree 933/2021, a regulation that sparked complaints from the hotel sector and privacy specialists due to the requirement for these establishments to collect a large amount of customer data. The regulation, which came into force in December 2024, requires hoteliers, tourist accommodation owners, travel agencies, and car rental companies to collect up to 28 categories of data from travelers.
– This includes unofficial personal data such as address, telephone number, or mobile phone number, as well as other transaction-related data such as payment method, bank account IBAN, or card expiration date. In addition, if any of the travelers are minors, the relationship between the guests must also be indicated. This data must be uploaded to a platform—called SES.HOSPEDAJES—set up by the Ministry of the Interior and must be kept for three years.
– Now, the AEPD is telling hoteliers that making a copy of the ID card or passport is not enough to comply with the regulations, as the document does not include all the necessary data. Instead, it involves the collection of information that the royal decree does not request. Therefore, it understands that “requesting a copy of the National Identity Document or Passport violates the principle of data minimization,” since “it involves excessive data processing.”
– “This is because the full ID card contains more data than is required under the applicable regulations, such as the photograph, the expiry date of the document, the CAN [Level Access Code, a six-digit number used as an additional security measure] or the names of the parents,” it points out. Sending the document via a photograph also does not allow verification that the guest is actually the person reflected in the document, the Agency continues.
– In addition, this practice exposes customers to security breaches in the event of a cyberattack. “Providing a copy of personal documentation involves, among other things, an unnecessary risk of identity theft,” says the privacy regulator. This is a growing attack vector with the repeated breaches suffered by accommodations, which then serve as a springboard for cybercriminals to launch scams against guests through platforms such as Booking.
– Instead of making copies of ID cards or passports, the regulator recommends that accommodations prepare a form with the necessary information to comply with the requirements of the Ministry of the Interior, and then verify it in person with the help of the official document. In the case of online data collection without in-person assistance, this verification can be carried out using mechanisms such as digital certificates, the note stated. “It is also possible to verify that the data and information provided matches the data associated with the means of payment used,” according to the agency. – The National Police have arrested the alleged perpetrator of the crime that took place on May 31 in a pub on the seafront promenade in Fuengirola (Malaga), where two people died and another was injured as a result of a shooting.
– According to confirmation from the police to the media, the arrest took place in the city of Liverpool (United Kingdom) on Friday afternoon by British authorities, at the request of the Spanish National Police. They added that the arrest was made after an urgent international arrest warrant was issued by Investigating Court No. 2 in Fuengirola. Even so, the police are continuing their investigation to clarify the causes of this crime.
– The Deputy Delegate of the Government in Malaga, Francisco Javier Salas, previously stated that both victims of this crime were Scottish nationals, the first of the deceased was shot in the chest and the second in the chest and abdomen. He also stated that the shooter fled the scene and, as a result, the National Police activated the Costa del Sol Plan protocols against crime to search for and locate the alleged perpetrator.
