Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
Who is the liar? Robles and Marlaska contradict each other regarding the CNI’s warnings of the mass entry into Ceuta: {Trans, summary}
– The most glaring contradiction centres on whether intelligence warnings preceded the mass entry into Ceuta. Minister Robles firmly maintains that CNI agents shared verbal and situational information with security forces and the Government Delegation, even citing specific meetings and a social-media alert on the day before the incursion. Minister Marlaska, however, flatly denies that any report, whether written or otherwise, foresaw an event of this scale, and he insists that had such intelligence existed, it would have been escalated to the highest governmental levels.
– The Government Delegation in Ceuta compounds this discord by stating it received only routine daily updates on maritime arrivals, with nothing that could have anticipated the magnitude of the subsequent crisis.
– Robles invokes the duty of secrecy to explain her reticence on documentation, while Marlaska presents his denial as definitive, leaving the public with two irreconcilable official accounts. Both ministers acknowledge the CNI’s general competence, yet their versions of what was communicated cannot be squared. Robles admits the government reacted late, whereas Marlaska asserts that all officials acted correctly.
– This fundamental divergence over the existence and content of pre-crisis intelligence remains unresolved. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/espana/robles-marlaska-contradicen…

Spain’s Great Replacement– Half Of Unskilled Construction Workers Are Now Foreign Labourers:
– Spain’s construction industry is undergoing rapid demographic changes. Foreign-born workers in unskilled construction roles now make up 52.6 percent of all workers, according to data from Randstad from the first quarter.
– The data shows that foreign workers now exceed Spanish nationals for these unskilled roles by nearly 11,000 workers. The contrast is stark compared to pre-pandemic figures, when domestic labourers outnumbered foreign counterparts by more than 33,500.
– Overall, the construction industry has lost 22,711 Spanish workers since 2019 while gaining 238,451 foreign employees, a figure that includes individuals with dual nationality. As a result, almost 36 percent of all construction workers, both skilled and unskilled, are now of foreign origin in the country.
– The shift is equally evident among bricklayers. In 2019, Spanish bricklayers outnumbered foreigners by 111,000. Seven years later, that gap has narrowed to just 18,000 workers. Foreign labour has gained more than 16 percentage points in this category and currently accounts for roughly 48 percent of bricklayers working in Spain. While Spaniards remain the majority in most skilled roles for now, the statistical gap continues to shrink rapidly. Experts also predict that foreigners will increasingly dominate skilled and managerial positions in the future.
– This transformation extends into specialized technical trades. The count of Spanish plumbers fell from 70,932 in 2019 to 57,781 today, while foreign representation doubled after adding over 10,000 workers. One in four plumbers in Spain is now foreign-born. Electricians show a similar dynamic, with about 32,000 foreign workers joining the profession since 2019, driving foreign representation up from under 11 percent pre-pandemic to nearly three out of ten today.
– Spain, like many other nations, is attempting to automate the construction industry as much as possible. However, instead of relying on advanced robots, Spain has so far shifted toward a modular construction approach in which concrete panels, bathrooms, and complete structural modules are built indoors in automated, factory-controlled settings that use machinery and assembly lines similar to those in the automotive sector. Cranes then assemble these modular components on site, requiring significantly fewer workers and dramatically cutting project delivery times. Spain Tax Agency gets greater powers to carry out electronic seizure of money in all “bank and non-bank accounts” held by debtors of the Tax Agency, regardless of whether they are used for business or personal purposes, from 2 November: {Trans, summary}
– A new telematic procedure enabling the Tax Agency to seize funds in accounts held with payment service providers has been established, with the resolution published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on 16 June, 2026, taking effect 2 November, 2026. This regulation expands the scope beyond traditional bank accounts to include non-bank accounts, such as those held with neobanks (online digital banking), electronic money institutions, and payment service providers like PayPal or Revolut. The procedure covers funds in euros or other currencies held in current accounts, savings accounts, payment accounts, and any other on-demand accounts.
– The system operates through automated, massive data exchange via REST services, which overcomes the limitations of the previous EDITRAN system. Entities that adhere to the procedure must retrieve seizure orders daily, execute the retention of funds within a specific time-frame (orders are available before 20:00 and must be executed before 8:00 the following day), and respond electronically. The resolution also allows for the seizure to be extended to up to ten accounts of the same debtor within the same entity if the initial account lacks sufficient funds. It also introduces a new response code (“13”) to identify accounts where salaries or pensions are regularly deposited, ensuring that the legally protected, non-seizable portions are respected.
– The government is advancing a separate legal framework to explicitly allow for the seizure of crypto-assets. {More on this crypto topic, “The Treasury is finalizing the procedure for seizing crypto assets to settle tax debts”, in Spanish: https://www.eleconomista.es/legal/noticias/13490116/08/25/hacienda-ultima… } Source, Spanish: https://www.iberley.es/noticias/ts-los-ayuntamientos-no-pueden-embargar…

A Moroccan minister speaks about the liberation of Ceuta and Melilla to Mohammed VI during a religious celebration: {Trans, summary}
– The Moroccan Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, has once again raised Morocco’s claim to Ceuta and Melilla, doing so on the occasion of a religious festival presided over by King Mohammed VI and also attended by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan {pic} and Prime Minister Aziz Ajanuch. According to the MAP news agency, the event was also attended by the presidents of the two Houses of Parliament, advisors to the king, members of the Government, the presidents of the constitutional bodies, senior officers of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, members of the Islamic diplomatic corps accredited in Rabat, as well as several ulemas and other civilian and military personalities.
– In his speech during the celebration at the Royal Palace of Rabat of the Eid al Maulud festival that commemorates the birth of the prophet Muhammad, Toufiq justified Morocco’s claims to the territories, citing two Islamic scholars born in Ceuta before that territory in North Africa came under Spanish sovereignty in 1580.
– The words of the Minister of Religious Affairs, using arguments of a religious and historical nature, come after the statements made in recent weeks, following the entry of some 80,000 migrants into Ceuta between August 30 and 31, by the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, who has claimed Morocco’s “historical and geographical rights” over Ceuta and Melilla and raised the need for dialogue on the issue with Spain. ANDALUCÍA
Gavira accuses Pedro Sánchez of collaborating with the “invasion of Ceuta”: {Trans}
– The second vice president of the Andalusian Regional Government, Manuel Gavira (Vox) {pic}, denounced this Sunday that the “inaction and submission” of the Government is allowing human trafficking mafias to “do business with the invasion of Ceuta” and accused Pedro Sánchez of “collaborating with the aggressor”.
– “Ceuta cannot become another Lampedusa {A small Italian island in the Mediterranean, located between Sicily, Tunisia, & Libya, a main arrival points for migrants crossing the central Mediterranean toward Europe. -Ed.}. Ceuta is a Spanish city that must return to normal, so that businesses can reopen and people can walk the streets without fear. Therefore, all those who participated in the invasion and stormed the Ceuta border must be returned to Morocco,” Gavira stated.
– He stressed that Ceuta is “a Spanish city that has suffered an invasion and aggression condoned by a traitorous government that has renounced defending our borders,” and condemned the attitude of an Executive that, he denounced, “has collaborated with the aggressor, abandoning Ceuta and that now intends to transfer the invasion to the rest of Spain.”
– “A government that refuses to defend the borders and intends to distribute throughout Spain those who have participated in the invasion is collaborating with the aggressor,” he emphasized.
– Gavira has warned that the Government’s “collaboration” with the “invasion of Ceuta” is already being exploited by the mafias, after recalling that the investigations carried out by the National Police have resulted in five arrests and have revealed that these organizations demanded up to 9,000 euros to clandestinely transport immigrants from Ceuta to the Andalusian coast.
– Furthermore, the Andalusian vice president reiterated his opposition to any distribution of “illegal” immigrants among the autonomous communities, stating: “Problems are not divided up; problems are solved. Andalusia will not accept Sánchez transferring the consequences of his cowardice here. Those who participated in the invasion must be returned to their country. We don’t want them in Ceuta or anywhere else in Spain.”
– He also referred to minors: “We defend their best interests, which is none other than being in their country with their family,” he stated.

Juanma Moreno calls on the Government to reactivate the elite OCON-South unit against drug trafficking: {Trans, summary}
– Juanma Moreno, President of the Andalusian regional government, has formally requested that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez reactivate OCON-Sur, an elite Guardia Civil unit specialised in anti-drug trafficking, which was disbanded four years ago.
– In his letter, Moreno argues that Andalusia has become a “base of operations” for drug mafias, with criminal activity now spreading across the entire coastline and inland areas, including daylight operations on the Guadalquivir river. He cites recent violent incidents, including murders in Utrera and Isla Cristina, and the deaths of four Guardia Civil officers in Barbate and Huelva over the past two years, as evidence of escalating violence and growing public insecurity.
– Moreno contends that OCON-Sur’s dismantling was a mistake that emboldened trafficking networks, and he urges the central government to provide sufficient resources to combat these organisations effectively. He further warns that criminal groups are exploiting vulnerable young people and disadvantaged communities, making this not only a security issue but also a social and public health concern requiring an urgent, coordinated response. IMMIGRATION IN SPAIN
Police use tear gas during food distribution to migrants on Ceuta’s Trampolín beach: {Trans}
– Several clashes have compelled the deployment of a unit to contain the disturbances. The National Police had to intervene this Tuesday afternoon on Trampolín beach in Ceuta, owing to altercations that occurred during the food distribution which the Red Cross carries out daily among the migrants settled in the area. The incidents took place around 19:00 hours, when thousands of people were gathered awaiting their meal.
– According to police sources, several confrontations between groups of migrants raised the tension and obliged the deployment of a unit to contain the disturbances and prevent them from spreading throughout the encampment. The officers made several charges to push back the crowds and employed anti-riot equipment, including tear gas, to disperse those assembled and regain control of the zone. According to police sources speaking to EFE, these are isolated actions of a deterrent nature, which are not serious and which have not, in principle, caused any injuries.
– The police intervention caused hundreds of migrants to abandon the beach precipitously and run towards the access road and the breakwater, amid moments of confusion and nervousness. The Local Police, for their part, restricted traffic on the approaches to Trampolín to facilitate the officers’ operation and guarantee safety in the surrounding area.
– Trampolín beach has become, in recent weeks, one of the main migrant encampments in Ceuta following the mass entry recorded at the end of July. Thousands of people remain in the zone, where improvised structures have proliferated and where a large part of the food, hygiene, and lodging needs of those still in the city are concentrated. Hundreds of Ceuta residents protest in front of the Government Delegation against the accommodation of migrants: {Trans, summary}
– Several hundred Ceuta residents protested before the Government Delegation against housing migrants in their city. The rally, which began in Fischer and moved to Plaza de los Reyes, demanded information, security assurances, and rejected transforming Ceuta into a migrant detention centre. Over 300 attendees chanted slogans against “invaders,” called for the Prime Minister’s resignation, and demanded the return of irregular entrants. They complained that the 27-day crisis disrupts daily life and criticised migration laws.
– The protest grew after a draft decree revealed government plans for multiple migrant accommodation sites. Residents insisted any decision affecting their neighbourhoods must include full disclosure and safety guarantees. Further rallies were called, reflecting deep unease over perceived threats to local identity and security, alongside frustration with official secrecy and the prolonged strain on community resources. The PP rejects the distinction between girls and boys with minors in Ceuta and says that they too suffer sexual assaults: {Trans}
– PP parliamentary spokesperson Ester Muñoz does not agree that the Government makes distinctions in how it treats migrant girls and boys who have entered Ceuta. “What I believe is that no distinctions should be made, and that the special vulnerability girls have is also shared by boys, who also suffer sexual abuse,” Muñoz stated.
– In an interview on ‘Onda Cero’ reported by Europa Press, the Popular Party leader accused the executive of trying to distribute responsibility for the minors in Ceuta among the autonomous communities and justified the decision of some regional executives to absent themselves from the Sectoral Conference on Children, where the situation of minors in the Autonomous City will be addressed.
– “Why did the Government of Spain say a few days ago that no minors and no irregular immigrants would go to the peninsula, and now they want to distribute them? And another question I ask myself is why only girls and not boys,” the popular leader questioned in relation to the proposal from the Ministry of Youth and Children to transfer 500 girls and adolescents to the Peninsula due to their vulnerability and following reports of sexual abuse.
– “I do not understand this difference between one group and the other (girls and boys); the government has to explain it and is not capable of doing so,” Muñoz added. And, when asked whether she does not agree that girls are more vulnerable than boys, she replied: “No, what I believe is that no distinctions should be made, and that the special vulnerability girls have is also shared by boys, who also suffer sexual abuse.”
– In this context, she reproached Pedro Sánchez’s executive for “the chaos it has generated” by saying “one thing one day and the opposite the next.” “They tell us that the figures on sexual abuse given by the Civil Guard are not correct, so where do we stand? Are there hardly any abuses, or are there in fact many?” the parliamentary spokesperson asked herself.
– For Muñoz, it is a contradiction to say that “there are practically no sexual abuses, but we must protect girls because they may be subject to sexual abuse.” And she insisted on reproaching the executive for accusing people of being “xenophobic and racist” when it is said that “irregular immigrants who enter bring a different culture and may cause sexual abuse.” “So where do we stand?” she added.
– “The chaos caused by the Government of Spain due to its neglect and because it has abandoned its main functions is such that they now try to make everyone else feel guilty, and we are not going to go along with that. The Government is responsible for what is happening,” she warned. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/epsocial/migracion/noticia-pp-rechaza-distinga…

How to care for your washing machine so it lasts longer and uses less energy: {Trans, summary}
– Good maintenance hinges on a few simple, regular habits. Clean the interior monthly by running an empty hot cycle (90°C) with white vinegar or a descaling product. Wipe the door seal dry after every wash to prevent mould and musty odours, and wash the detergent drawer every two to three weeks to remove softener and limescale residue. Leave the door ajar between uses to allow the drum to ventilate.
– Clean the filter every two months. The filter is located at the bottom of the washing machine, in an inconspicuous corner. Most people do not know it exists until a repair technician mentions it during a breakdown. Its job is to trap fluff, loose buttons, coins, and various other small objects that escape from the clothing during washing. If it is not cleaned regularly, it can become blocked, which prevents the machine from draining water properly and often triggers an error code on the display screen. The recommended maintenance is to clean it about every two months, with the machine switched off and unplugged.
– Load the drum correctly: do not overfill, as this strains the motor and reduces cleaning effectiveness, but also avoid very small loads, which waste water and electricity. Wait for a full load whenever practical. Schedule loads for the low-cost hours of your electricity supplier. Choose programmes wisely: most daily laundry washes well at 30–40°C, as modern detergents work in cool water; save high temperatures for towels, sheets and heavily soiled items.
