ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
Budget? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Budget! – The gov’t again delays presenting the years overdue Budget, until February 2026 this time, despite Sánchez’s promise to do so before the end of the year: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Government has postponed its timetable for presenting the 2026 General State Budgets. Although the Prime Minister pledged to submit them by the end of this year, the Finance Minister María Jesús Montero now expects them to be presented in early 2026, likely in February, with a vote delayed until April or May- nearly six months past the constitutional deadline.
– This is not the first delay: the Government previously failed to pass the 2025 budgets, nor secure votes in Congress for earlier ones, so the most recent budget actually approved by Parliament is that of 2023.
– The plan now is to present the 2026 budgets “when a window of opportunity arises,” politically timed rather than fixed. They may resubmit the accounts if they are rejected, particularly if support shifts from Junts, for instance if Carles Puigdemont returns after amnesty. Montero stressed that there is no strict deadline, and that approval should happen “when possible,” while the Government aims to show its roadmap and priorities even as support is not guaranteed. Zelenski calls on Spain to increase support for Ukraine: {Translation, summary}
– Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski is visiting Madrid on Tuesday, 19 November 2025, to request increased Spanish support against the Russian invasion. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI. Zelenski stressed that Spain’s backing is vital for protecting lives and strengthening Ukraine’s international position. He hopes the visit will result in concrete agreements to reinforce allied support, highlighting Spain as an influential partner whose assistance can help accelerate the resolution of the conflict and provide political, humanitarian, and potentially material support to Kyiv. Sánchez proposes €817 m aid for Ukraine: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, proposes mobilising €817 million to support Ukraine amid the Russian invasion, with €615 million earmarked for military assistance and €200 million for reconstruction. Speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, Sánchez explained that the €615 million military package, to be deployed in December, includes €300 million for defensive equipment under this year’s €1 billion bilateral security agreement. An additional €100 million will go to NATO’s PURL programme for urgent acquisition of defence systems, and €215 million will be channelled through the European Commission’s SAFE instrument.
– For reconstruction, the government will create a new €200 million financial support mechanism coordinated by the Spanish Office for Reconstruction in Ukraine. A joint project with the UN will rebuild Sumy’s central heating system, benefiting over 28,000 people at a cost of roughly €2 million. Sánchez emphasised that the total proposed mobilisation amounts to €817 million, with Zelenski immediately expressing his gratitude for the support. So we got no budget, and Pedro is promising to fund wars in a scandal wracked country that cannot account for money it receives. Meanwhile…Spanish 15-year-olds have a lower level of education than the rest of the EU in Science, Mathematics and Language: {Translation, summary}
– Spanish 15-year-olds continue to perform below the level expected of countries with similar economic and educational profiles, according to the European Commission. Although results have improved, Spain still falls behind the EU countries it would normally be expected to match. Too many students fail to reach basic proficiency: 27.3 percent in Mathematics, 24.4 percent in Reading and 21.3 percent in Science. The share of high achievers is also well below EU averages. Early school leaving remains high at 13 percent, above both the EU average and Spain’s 2030 target. Digital skills are another major weakness, with 44.4 percent of students below Level 2, far from the EU objective of 15 percent.
– The report warns that these shortcomings weaken future competitiveness and limit the supply of STEM professionals. It calls for structural reforms, including raising the compulsory schooling age, expanding student grants and increasing public investment to 5.5 percent of GDP to close persistent gaps. ANDALUCÍA
Add Guardia Civil to the list of professionals that don’t want to work in Andalucia: {DigameXtra}
– The Directorate General of the Civil Guard has announced 4,012 officer vacancies across Spain. In Málaga, however, only 61 of the province’s 384 unfilled positions have even been advertised, despite it having the lowest ratio of Civil Guards per inhabitant in the country, according to the Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC). The union warns that this shortfall means units will continue to operate “below minimum levels”, creating serious problems in providing security to local municipalities. Only the posts in Mijas (fourteen), Colmenar (seven), Álora (five) and Ardales (two) are set to receive reinforcements, while nearly all other public security positions remain understaffed.
– A post by AUGC Málaga on X (formerly Twitter) confirms the province has 384 unfilled active-duty vacancies, with an accompanying image showing that only 61 have been officially posted for recruitment, with only 28 filled. The union highlights this as a critical staffing gap, stressing its impact on operational capacity and public safety in Málaga. AUGC has long maintained that the shortage stretches units thin and increases pressure on existing officers.
– It should be noted that this information comes from a union source and has not been independently verified by the Civil Guard or the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. While the numbers likely reflect the union’s internal data, they should be treated as indicative rather than official statistics. X Post

Minister Carolina España denounces the “blackmail” of the pro-independence parties: {Translation, summary}
– Carolina España, Andalusia’s Minister of Economy, Finance, European Funds and Social Dialogue, criticised the Spanish Government on Tuesday, alleging it is subject to “independentist blackmail” due to the seven votes of Junts in Congress. She reproached the Government for late presentation of deficit parameters to the Council of Fiscal and Financial Policy and highlighted Andalusia’s balanced budgets, rejecting any increase.
– España accused the administration of misgovernment and disrespect, particularly criticising Finance Minister María Jesús Montero for delayed announcements on new General Budgets and a revised financing model. She warned that ongoing negotiations between Catalan independentists and the central Government risk privileges for Catalonia at the expense of other regions, recalling that Andalusia has been annually disadvantaged by around 1,500 million euros since 2009. España also criticised unequal resource allocation and potential penalties for regions reducing taxes, demanding a transitional fund to compensate Andalusia and insisting territorial problems cannot be resolved solely through financing reforms. MALAGA PROVINCE
Malaga’s prisons, ‘incubators’ of organised crime– “It’s getting out of hand”: {Translation, summary}
– Prisons in Málaga, particularly Alhaurín de la Torre and Archidona, are increasingly influenced by organised crime, with criminal hierarchies and methods moving from the streets into prison modules. Officials report that professional criminals now dominate, bringing violence, drug trafficking, and coercion, while staff lack the tools to manage them effectively. Alhaurín de la Torre, with over 1,100 inmates and more than 300 above recommended capacity, experiences the most intense internal power struggles. Archidona, more than 30 years old, with an ever declining number of staff, also houses increasingly dangerous inmates.
– Drug trafficking drives many conflicts, with gangs using drones, small mobile phones, and coercion to move substances inside. Disciplinary measures such as isolation or denial of walks are rarely applied, leaving prisoners with a sense of impunity. “The inmate stays in their cell in the afternoon, watches a film…for many it is almost a reward,” notes TAMPM’s Manuel Morales. Frequent absences of medical staff further exacerbate risks, as over a quarter of inmates have serious health or mental conditions, and hospital transfers pose escape threats.
– The diagnosis regarding the spike in conflicts is shared by Manuel Morales, a representative of the union Tu Abandono Me Puede Matar (TAMPM), who stresses that the criminals entering now are not the same as 15 years ago. “Málaga is the UN of organised crime; the prisoners themselves say it. Here are the most dangerous gangs with the highest purchasing power,” he asserts.
– Staff describe prisons as out of control, with constant threats, assaults, and rule-breaking. They warn that only administrative action and stronger management by authorities can reverse the escalating violence and restore safety in Málaga’s prisons.

New home sales up 23% while second-hand housing market slows to 1.5% growth in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– Málaga’s second hand housing market is clearly slowing after several years of strong activity. Between January and September the province registered 18,767 sales of used homes, only 1.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
– In contrast, new builds continue to expand at a much faster pace, with 8,909 sales in the same period, an annual rise of 23.7 percent. New housing now represents almost one third of all transactions in Málaga.
– The main cause of the weaker performance in the second hand segment is a shortage of available properties after years of high demand. As supply has tightened, prices have continued to rise, making home purchases increasingly difficult for new buyers. When both segments are combined, Málaga records overall growth of 7.7 percent for the first nine months of the year, a slower pace that confirms a noticeable cooling in the province’s property market. The president and vice-president of the Almería Provincial Council arrested for alleged irregular contracts: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Almería Provincial Council (and also of the Popular Party in this province), Javier Aureliano García {pic}, has been arrested by Judicial Police officers. The arrest took place alongside that of the vice-president of the provincial institution, Fernando Giménez, and the mayor of Fines, Rodrigo Sánchez.
– Although the reasons for these arrests have not yet been specified, everything seems to indicate that they are linked to municipal Covid mask purchases and alleged kickbacks in public works carried out throughout the province of Almería. EUROPE
‘Five minutes away from one-party dictatorship’– Georgia’s U-turn from Western path:
– Just over a year ago, a diverse array of opposition coalitions jockeyed for votes in Georgia’s parliament, with four of them winning seats. Today, of their eight main leaders, all but one are in jail, in exile or facing criminal charges. The ruling party aims to ban the three main opposition groups outright. The slide into one-party rule has shocked many in the tiny South Caucasus country of 3.7 million. In the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgia appeared a burgeoning democracy, on the fast track to joining the EU and escaping Russia’s orbit.
– But now it is further from the West than at almost any time in its post-Soviet history, according to an assessment from Brussels, which described its democratic institutions as hobbled and its courts under the thumb of the state. This month, the EU declared in a report that Georgia was now a candidate for membership “in name only”. The EU ambassador in Tbilisi said Georgia was no longer on the trajectory to join the bloc at all. Senior veterans of Georgian politics and diplomacy who spoke to Reuters about the events of the past few months said it appears as though Georgia is close to a line, beyond which it will be hard for democracy to recover.
– “We are now five minutes away from one-party dictatorship,” said Sergi Kapanadze, a former deputy foreign minister and deputy parliamentary speaker until 2020. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/five-minutes-autocracy-how-georgia-u-turned-its-western-path-2025-11-18/

UK targets touts with ban on ticket resale for profit:
– Britain will ban the resale of tickets for music concerts, shows and sporting events at inflated prices, tackling the scourge of ticket touts who use technology to snap up tickets for popular events, the government said on Tuesday. Housing minister Steve Reed said the practice of “ticket touting” – people buying tickets to sell them on at multiples of their face value – was hugely damaging for individuals who had to pay “through the nose” to attend. Shares in U.S. company StubHub, the owner of resale site Viagogo, fell 14% on Monday after it was reported the government would go ahead with a ban.
– “We are committed to ending the scandal of ticket touts,” Reed told BBC News on Tuesday, adding that its plans would be set out by ministers in the coming days.
Tickets for tours by artists like Taylor Swift, Oasis and Radiohead are offered on resale sites for hugely inflated prices minutes after they sell out. Touts use “bots” to beat online queues for tickets.
– Radiohead’s upcoming tour in London is one of the highest priced on resale sites. Standing tickets for its show on Friday, originally priced at 85 pounds ($112), were on Viagogo from 682 pounds on Tuesday. GASTRONOMIA
Bagá, the smallest Michelin-starred restaurant in Europe is located in Jaén- 45 square meters and a capacity for a maximum of 15 diners: {Translation}
– Over recent years, Jaén has become a fashionable gastronomic destination, and with good reason. The province has five Michelin Stars, including one at Bagá, the smallest restaurant in Europe with a star– with only 45 square metres of space, Bagá seats eight to fifteen diners. Run by chef Pedro Sánchez, it sits in the provincial capital.
– It also earned three Repsol Suns this year, making it one of the highlights of the latest awards gala in Santa Cruz de Tenerife alongside La Finca, run by Susi Díaz, in Elche. Bagá has also been ranked the fourth best restaurant in Europe by the Opinionated About Dining (OAD) list, placing ahead of DiverXO in Madrid and Disfrutar in Barcelona.
– The restaurant describes its approach as “disruptive, exciting, simple and flavourful cooking” where only a few ingredients are needed to stand out. Opened in 2017, it offers a sixteen-course menu costing 98 euros per person, excluding drinks, with seasonal variations. Dishes include stewed cod with sheep’s butter and flowers, and trout roe with tomato.
– Bookings are online. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 14:00 to 16:00 and 20:30 to 23:00. Sundays open only in the morning; Mondays closed.
