Feria de El Morche 2025: 5 Days, Wed-Sun, 13-17 August
– “The fair has even more bands playing in the official tent this year, so there will be dancing until dawn. This is the first year that there will be five stellar performances from Wednesday to Sunday,“ said the mayor, who added that as a new feature, ”we have customized some nautical lights for El Morche’s seafaring past, and I invite everyone to come to this fair.”
– The fair will feature great free musical performances. On Thursday, August 14, María Peláe will perform; on Friday, August 15, Decai; on Saturday, August 16, Joana Jiménez; and on Sunday, August 17, Seguridad Social. In addition, on Wednesday, August 13, the first Reggaeton Dawn will take place with the group ‘Con Más Flow’.
Furthermore, every night there will be dance music with the D’Vértigo Orchestra, Infinity Show Orchestra, and José A. Cortés, keeping the party going until dawn.

Parties advocating for Andalusian independence are generally in the minority and face significant opposition from mainstream political groups, including the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and the conservative Popular Party (PP). The rise of the right-wing party Vox in Andalucía, which fiercely opposes separatism, yet at the same time demands the same treatment as the other “separatistas”, also shapes the region’s political discourse.
– However, growing frustration over economic disparities and fiscal inequities fuels grassroots support for greater autonomy or independence, keeping the debate alive. Thus, Andalucía’s independence movement is part of a broader narrative in Spain’s ongoing negotiation of regional identities, self-governance, and national unity.

– Andalucía’s diverse economy, anchored by its world-class tourism sector, rich agricultural output, emerging renewable energy market, expanding cultural and sports industries, and vital maritime infrastructures, demonstrates clear potential for sustained growth. However, this potential remains largely constrained by central government control and fiscal imbalances.
– Independence advocates contend that granting Andalucía full self-determination would enable the region to develop unique economic policies, foster innovation, and invest strategically in sectors with the highest returns. This autonomy could stimulate job creation, improve living standards, and reduce disparities both within the region and relative to the rest of Spain.
– In essence, independence offers Andalucía a path to harness its unique resources and strengths, transforming long-coastline tourism hubs, fertile agricultural lands, and growing service industries into engines of prosperity tailored to the aspirations of nearly 9 million Andalusians.
MALAGA CITY
Welcome to the surveillance state, Malaga Fair is the latest theft of your civil liberties: {DigameXtra Exclusive}
– In Andalucia authorities often disregard the public’s rights to privacy, totally ignoring logic and established legal procedures, or justifying these illegal intrusions with obscure, twisted legal interpretations; then if there are problems, they deal with them in long drawn out, costly legal battles. That is not freedom, it is tyranny. Where is the outrage? Are the sleeping sheep too lazy to run from the oncoming wolfpack?
– In a new development, local police at the Real de la Feria in Malaga will deploy 84 video surveillance cameras.
– The decision to allow local police to deploy video surveillance cameras at the Málaga Fair should alarm anyone who values privacy and liberty. This is not simply about crime prevention, it is about granting the state sweeping new powers to record, track, and store the movements of thousands of law abiding citizens during a public celebration.
– Andalucía’s authorities have an abysmal record when it comes to data protection. Just last year, hackers breached the regional health service’s system, leaking the personal details of more than 50,000 employees. Multiple municipal and regional databases have suffered similar intrusions over the past decade, proving that sensitive information in government hands is anything but safe.
– Placing sophisticated camera systems across the fairgrounds means constant monitoring, facial recognition potential, and the creation of datasets ripe for abuse or theft. Spanish constitutional protections and EU GDPR rules are supposed to limit such overreach, yet repeated “temporary” security measures have a habit of becoming permanent.
– Public safety must never come at the cost of civil liberties. Authorities should invest in visible policing, better lighting, and rapid response patrols, not invasive technologies that normalize the surveillance of ordinary people under the false banner of security.
– A specific concern is the violation of European and Spanish legal standards protecting privacy. Article 8 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights ensures every citizen’s right to personal data protection, while Article 7 guarantees respect for private life. The GDPR’s Article 5 demands lawful, fair, and transparent processing of data, requirements routinely ignored when authorities suffer data breaches or deploy broad surveillance without oversight. The Spanish Constitutional Court has repeatedly warned local authorities against excessive police monitoring, reminding public officials that security cannot override fundamental liberties. Only targeted, proportionate surveillance of specific threats is ever permitted by law; widespread video recording of festival-goers enjoying their right to assembly is categorically unacceptable.
– Are these public surveillance cams even effective? No! But the Malaga authorities have neglected for 15 years doing a study of their effectiveness, probably because it would counter their arguments in support. Here are the most recent study results.
*After 1 year of the implementation of 40 security cameras in the historic centre of the city of Malaga in 2010, criminal activity had not been significantly reduced. Remember, these are the police supplied stats, so these are likely to be “highly optimistic” figures.
*Crime reduction 1.9% (Police Source)
*Reduction in the perception of insecurity: 3.6%.
*14% increase in criminal activity in surrounding streets. This data confirms the hypothesis of a displacement of crime to streets similar to streets with the cameras (especially crime against property), that is, that the cameras have generated a clear displacement of crime that overloads non-video-monitored areas.
– You can be sure the webcam data will be farmed out to a “cloud storage” system contractor, then leaked out by their 3rd party contractors. The data will be passed thru facial recognition software, attendees will be identified, and their activities will be scrutinized by Artificial Intelligence. This info will then be added to the profile data big-tech keeps on all individuals. Buy your kid a stuffed panda…next week you get panda doll ad popups on your mobile & PC. Have a few giant chili-dogs and pints before getting into your car to drive away? Your health and auto insurance premiums will reflect that “dangerous conduct” next time around. And maybe they should if you behave foolishly. But ONLY if they have our permission to do so. Personally I do not consent to having my activities recorded, analysed, catalogued and sold. Once a freedom is lost it is almost never recovered. And in this case they didn’t even have a referendum, some obscure “commission” decided they would just rip our privacy from us, with that tired old excuse, to “protect” us.

Green light to the amphitheatre project of the Plaza de los Cangrejos in Nerja: {Translation}
– The Nerja Governing Board has given the green light to the basic design and construction of the new amphitheater to be built south of Plaza Fábrica de los Cangrejos, next to the Torrecilla promenade and the Fuente de Europa fountain.

FRIGILIANA
An 87 -year -old man, long-time ex-pat, dies in the fire of a rural house in Frigiliana: {Translation, summary}

Torre del Mar will celebrate the VIII tourist day with a giant cake almost 9 meters long: {Translation, summary}

The Provincial Council collaborates with the 8th International Exhibition of “Arte Naíf ” in Riogordo: {Translation, summary}

Netanyahu expands his new offensive against Gaza City- announces attack on the “last two strongholds of Hamas soon”:
– Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday he expected to complete a new Gaza offensive “fairly quickly”, as the U.N. Security Council heard new demands for an end to suffering in the Palestinian enclave.
– Netanyahu, speaking after his security cabinet on Friday approved a much-criticised plan to take control of Gaza City said he had no choice but to “complete the job” and defeat Hamas to free hostages seized from Israel.
– He said the new Gaza offensive aimed to tackle two remaining Hamas strongholds in what he said was his only option because of the Palestinian group’s refusal to lay down its arms. Hamas says it will not disarm unless an independent Palestinian state is established.
– It was not clear when the offensive, which would be the latest in successive attempts by the Israeli military to clear the militants from Gaza City, would begin. “The timeline that we set for the action is fairly quickly. We want, first of all, to enable safe zones to be established so the civilian population of Gaza City can move out,” he added. Doctor Hiring Effort Is An Epic Fail!
Socialists (PSOE) admonish the conservative regional government (PP controlled) for leaving 81% of primary care physician positions unfilled in Malaga after recent employment drive: {Translation}
– Councillor Carmen Martín, representing the Socialist Group in Málaga City Council, has, on this Sunday, denounced what she describes as the “mistreatment” by the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla (PP) {pic}, towards public healthcare professionals, particularly general practitioners and paediatricians.
– Martín explained in a statement that, during a recent doctor recruitment event held in Seville, 837 positions were made available for specialist doctors in paediatrics and family medicine in primary care, of which only 181 were filled.
– In Málaga’s case, 32 family doctor posts were offered, and only 7 were accepted, meaning 81% of the positions remain vacant.
