The Supreme Court threatens the Government with “coercive measures” if it continues to fail to take charge of the migrant minors in the Canary Islands: {Translation, summary}
– The Supreme Court has ordered the Spanish Government to urgently address the situation of over 1,000 unaccompanied migrant minors in the Canary Islands seeking asylum, citing a “clear breach” of its prior mandate. The Court warns of coercive measures, including fines of €150–€1,500 and potential criminal proceedings, if the Government fails to comply.
– Following a 29 May hearing, the Court noted that no minors had been assessed since its 25 March order, and no comprehensive list of these minors had been compiled. This reflects a disregard for their rights under international protection laws, particularly for those in vulnerable situations. The Government has 30 days to provide adequate resources for processing applications and 15 days to coordinate with the Canary Islands to ensure access to reception systems. The Court demands detailed biweekly reports and identification of responsible officials, highlighting that delays are incompatible with the minors’ rights. ANDALUCÍA
The Andalusian Parliament will ask Pedro Sanchez to dissolve the Cortes (parliament) and call general elections: {Translation}
– The tone of the debate in the Andalusian Parliament has intensified ahead of next week’s approval of a Popular Party (PP) initiative calling for the dissolution of the Spanish Parliament and the calling of general elections, citing the loss of institutional legitimacy, the degradation of the democratic framework, and the breakdown of public trust in the executive and its supporting representatives.
– This request is part of a non-legislative motion tabled by the PP parliamentary group concerning “the rejection of corruption and the spread of misinformation by the Spanish Government and its associates, as well as their attacks on the rule of law.”
– The initiative, which will be approved based on the PP’s absolute majority in the Andalusian Parliament, urges the national Executive to urgently adopt “the necessary measures to ensure active collaboration with all judicial, parliamentary, and administrative bodies investigating possible irregularities linked to its management” and calls on it to respect “the independence of the judiciary and refrain from making statements or political manoeuvres that interfere with ongoing cases.”
– It also demands that the central Executive ensure “the neutrality of state bodies, such as the Attorney General’s Office or the Tax Agency, in handling cases involving investigations into the conduct of the government and its associates, adopting the necessary measures to ensure these bodies carry out their duties in defence of current legality and the rule of law, with due independence, thereby reinforcing public trust in democratic institutions as a counterbalance to the abuse of power.”
– Furthermore, it calls for the explicit guarantee of “the operational autonomy of the investigative units of the Guardia Civil and the National Police, rejecting any legislative or regulatory attempts to subordinate their actions to political directives at the expense of judicial mandates.”
– The initiative also demands the rejection of “the practices” of the Spanish Government and, in particular, of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero, who “has been carrying out discretionary management in the arbitrary allocation and partisan use of public resources, with the sole aim of perpetuating the government’s hold on power.”
– Additionally, the autonomous Chamber expresses its rejection of “the institutional degradation of the current Spanish Government and attempts to use the state apparatus for partisan purposes or as a tool for political persecution, particularly the practices of espionage, surveillance, or unauthorised data collection” targeting the President of the Andalusian Regional Government, Juanma Moreno, and members of his Executive, carried out “by individuals linked to the PSOE who have held positions of public responsibility.” It calls on the central Government to “hold those responsible accountable, both politically and administratively,” for these actions.
– Another point in the initiative is the Parliament’s rejection of “the irresponsible and biased conduct” of members of the central Government and, in particular, Montero, for “echoing statements that make serious accusations against innocent individuals and institutions, thereby spreading falsehoods and lies, without retracting or apologising for them even when it is widely known that they are misinformation and falsehoods.”
– At a press conference on Wednesday, the PP-A spokesperson in the Andalusian Parliament, Toni Martín {pic}, stated that the events outlined in the initiative “are unprecedented in decades of democracy” in Spain. “The Spanish Government is in its final throes and is unsustainable,” Martín said, arguing that holding general elections is necessary to end “this dark chapter, which will be remembered as the era of absolute corruption, utter absurdity, and farce.”
Regarding the PP’s decision not to propose a motion of no confidence against Pedro Sánchez in the Spanish Parliament, Martín stated that it “seems sensible and reasonable that, in this context, it is not being considered at this time” and that it should be the public and the voice of Spaniards “that raise the outcry” against the Prime Minister.
He thus defended the demonstration called by PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo on Sunday in Madrid, which he described as “the great motion of no confidence against Pedro Sánchez.” Source, Spanish: https://www.abc.es/espana/andalucia/parlamento-andaluz-pedira-pedro-sanchez-disuelva-cortes-20250604160518-nts.html

The president of the TSJA demands “a hundred judges, at least” for Andalusia: {Translation, summary}
– Lorenzo del Río, President of the High Court of Justice of Andalusia {pic}, stressed the need for at least 100 more judges, with the region currently having 1,041. He warned of potential overload in courts in the face of the “increase in crime” in Costa del Sol, and especially the prompt handling of ‘violence against women’ cases, proposing specialised sections and unified services in provincial capitals.
– In 2024, courts managed over 1.4 million cases, up 5% from 2023, with social cases rising 16% and civil cases 8%. Criminal cases make up half the workload, with pending cases up 67% since 2014. Over 40,000 complaints and 10,000 protection orders were recorded for violence against women in 2024. Source, Spanish: https://www.abc.es/espana/andalucia/tsja-pide-100-jueces-20250603170231-nts.html

Andalusia asks Marlaska to “take security on the Costa del Sol seriously”, “It has gotten out of hand”: {Translation, summary}
– A robbery at a pharmacy in Puerto de la Torre early this morning ended in a police chase that resulted in four deaths, including an off-duty police officer {pic}, deeply shocking the local community. The incident began when three suspects used their vehicle to ram the pharmacy—a method known as “alunizaje”—before fleeing. The high-speed chase involved national and local police and ended in a head-on collision on the A-7 motorway near Torremolinos.
– Andalusian Economy Minister Carolina España urged Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska to urgently improve security in Andalusia, especially the Costa del Sol, stating the situation “has gotten out of hand.” She highlighted that similar security issues, including multiple pharmacy robberies, have been occurring frequently, creating widespread fear. Residents and shopkeepers in Puerto de la Torre expressed growing insecurity, demanding more police presence, especially at night when the area feels deserted. Many worry about vulnerable elderly residents and fear further violent incidents if security is not reinforced. COSTA DEL SOL
Smoke from Canada’s devastating wildfires turns the sky orange in Malaga and along the Costa del Sol:
– The scene in Malaga on Tuesday, 3 June, was reminiscent of the impressive ‘calima’ haze, which painted the sky in the city orange in March 2022. This time, however, another environmental phenomenon, coming from much farther away, was the cause of the reddish tones – the devasting wildfires in eastern Canada.
– The wave of fires – a total of 179 so far – in the North American country has already led to the evacuation of thousands of people, who had to leave their homes due to the danger of the fires themselves and the decreased air quality. The flames have consumed more than 50,000 hectares and the ravages of smoke are not only affecting North America – they have crossed the Atlantic Ocean and, since Sunday, have started to be noticed in Western Europe.
– It was initially believed that the smoke would not go beyond the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, but according to José Luis Escudero – head of SUR’s ‘Tormentas y rayos’ blog – the strong winds of recent days have also brought it to the south of Spain, Malaga province and the Costa del Sol. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Drought restrictions eased in Vélez-Málaga after suffering several summers with water cuts:
– Vélez-Málaga town hall on the eastern Costa del Sol has announced its first summer without water cuts for three years and has published information on permitted uses. However, it will regulate the use of potable water for swimming pools, gardens, car washing and cleaning properties with a maximum daily limit of 225 litres per inhabitant per day.
– The abundant rainfall so far this year has put an end to almost five years of extreme drought in Malaga province, which has particularly impacted the Axarquía area to the east.
– Vélez-Málaga town hall announced on Friday 30 May, through a municipal order, the permitted uses of drinking water as established according to the ruling on 28 April 2025, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, on the situation of La Viñuela reservoir.
– Beyond drinking, cooking and hygiene uses, water may be used to irrigate gardens, allotments, parks and green areas, both public and private, provided that the irrigation system is preferably drip or sprinkler irrigation, and at night.
– In the remaining cases, only the use of non-drinking water is authorised. The washing of vehicles in authorised establishments, ornamental fountains, public footbaths on the beach, drinking fountains for people or animals and the washing of streets, pavements and buildings outside are some of the possibilities also permitted.
– In schools, the complete or partial filling of pools for children’s bathing will be authorised, as well as in the showers of sports facilities or swimming pools where it is mandatory for health reasons, as well as the use of specific beach showers for people with reduced mobility. Spain blocks consensus in NATO to increase military spending: {Translation, summary}
– The Government of Pedro Sánchez is currently blocking consensus within NATO to approve a percentage increase in military spending. According to highly reliable sources, Spain does not even accept the principle of setting a specific defence investment percentage relative to GDP, as other countries do, preferring instead that the commitment be framed in terms of specific capability enhancement goals, as already explained by Defence Minister Margarita Robles.
– The meeting of allied Defence Ministers taking place Wednesday (4 June) in Brussels will be the last before the Hague summit, where it was intended that the commitment to approve the target of reaching 5% of GDP, proposed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to appease the demands of US President Donald Trump, would be finalised. Although several countries openly discuss the budgetary or technical difficulties in achieving this, Spain is the only one currently opposing it.
– Rutte proposes that member countries commit to investing 3.5% in strictly military expenditure and 1.5% in other defence-related costs.
– The US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, in statements cited by El Español, expressed his conviction that “Spain will accept spending 5% on defence and will not block the allies’ agreement.” In NATO, decisions are only made by consensus, meaning all countries must agree or at least none must oppose. The measures place particular emphasis on air and missile defence, long-range weapons, logistics, and large-scale ground manoeuvre formations.
– If Pedro Sánchez does not change his stance, it is highly likely that he will end up clashing with Trump at the Hague summit, with all that this could entail.
– Other countries face clear budgetary issues, such as France or Italy. Others, like the Netherlands or Portugal, have governments in precarious parliamentary situations and will need to overcome certain challenges to approve a significant increase in defence budgets. In other cases, such as Germany, although they have clearly decided to increase funding for rearmament, they may exhaust the production capacity of the military industry, which could create problems for other countries in obtaining such equipment.
– However, unlike Spain, none have opposed the principle adopted by Rutte, whose main mission at present is to preserve ties between the United States and European allies. It is not ruled out that, under these circumstances, Washington may order a partial withdrawal of the 80,000 troops still stationed in Europe. According to experts, it is almost certain that some will be redeployed elsewhere, and the extent of this will indicate the political temperature in transatlantic relations. Donald Trump and Elon Musk Viciously Turn On Each Other In Series Of Announcements & Social Media Posts- The Latest Update Is That Musk Claims Trump ‘Is In The Epstein Files’ After Daring Prez To Cancel SpaceX Contracts:
– Over the past several days Musk has dug in over the issue – posting to X on Tuesday, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
– This sent the White House scrambling to do damage control – with Budget Director Russ Vought sending Congress a request for a $9.4 billion clawback for unspent foreign aid funding – which if you’re Musk, after what DOGE has uncovered, is a huge slap in the face.
– On Wednesday, Musk continued to rage on X – posting: “Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! Kill the Bill.” – followed by a ‘Kill Bill’ movie poster featuring Uma Thurman.
– Here are a two more quotes as the story progressed.
– “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote, adding “Such ingratitude.”
– In a Thursday afternoon post to Truth Social, Trump said that Elon was “wearing thin,” and that he “Asked him to leave.” “I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”
Trump then ‘truthed’ that “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
– Musk just hit the afterburners – claiming on X that President Trump is “in the Epstein files,” adding “That is the real reason they have not been made public…
– {Thus began the tirade of claims and counter claims as the two attacked each other on social media. The full article contains a complete rundown of statements & events including images of all the social media posts. -Ed.}

Malaga Clinic transfers patients to Guadalhorce Hospital and suspends more non-urgent surgeries to free up beds: {Translation, summary}
– Clínico hospital is overwhelmed, struggling to serve a growing population even before the summer visitor surge and staff holidays. To ease pressure on its Emergency Department, the hospital is transferring patients to Guadalhorce Hospital and accelerating discharges. Non-urgent Trauma surgeries, mainly knee replacements, have been postponed to free beds. Unions warn of an “unsustainable collapse,” with patients waiting days on stretchers in undignified conditions. They blame poor management and insufficient resources for the western Málaga area, the city’s most populous and fastest-growing zone. The staff committee demands the dismissal of responsible managers and urgent structural reforms to ensure patient safety and dignity. Up to 72 people requested euthanasia in Andalusia during 2024: {Translation, summary}
– Over the past year, up to 72 people in Andalusia requested a dignified death. According to data released this Wednesday, throughout 2024 in Andalusia, 28 individuals out of a total of 72 applicants received the necessary assistance to die last year.
– According to the Andalusian Guarantee and Evaluation Committee for the provision of assisted dying, under the Department of Health and Consumer Affairs, 50 of the 72 applications led to the opening of a case file. Of the remaining 22, 13 were not processed due to the applicant’s death before the case could be initiated, four were withdrawn before the process began with the committee, four applications received an unfavourable report from the responsible doctor and were not subject to appeal, and one application, submitted in 2024, lacked the necessary documentation for processing.
– Regarding the procedures carried out, one was performed in Almería, one in Cádiz, four in Granada, two in Huelva, 15 in Málaga, and five in Seville.
– The three main groups of chronic illnesses or conditions leading to requests for medical assistance in dying are, firstly, neurodegenerative diseases with 21 cases, followed by oncological conditions with 16 cases, and complex chronic/multipathological conditions with 10 cases. Thus, 94% of applications originate in Primary Care settings due to their proximity to the patient, family, and home environment. No revocations have been recorded after the patient signed the informed consent.
– Additionally, organ donations occurred in five cases, resulting in a total of 18 donated organs: 10 kidneys, five livers, two lungs, and one pancreas. Source, Spanish: https://www.abc.es/espana/andalucia/personas-solicitaron-eutanasia-andalucia-ano-2024-20250604152118-nts.html

Infections by ‘Escherichia coli’ and ‘Listeria’ reach historical maximums in Europe: {Translation}
– In 2023, infections caused by Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) and Listeria reached historic highs across Europe, according to the ECDC. STEC cases increased by 22% to 10,901, with children under five most affected; the infection can cause severe gastroenteritis and haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), a serious kidney condition. Listeriosis cases rose to 2,993 with 340 deaths, primarily affecting the elderly, pregnant women, new-borns, and immunocompromised people. Listeriosis can lead to severe complications such as meningitis and fatal bloodstream infections. The rise in both infections is partly due to improved diagnostic methods, an ageing population, and increased consumption of ready-to-eat foods. The ECDC stresses the importance of food hygiene, proper cooking, and public awareness, especially among vulnerable groups, to prevent infections and manage outbreaks effectively. Monitoring of severe STEC variants and patient follow-up remain critical for public health. Coming Soon- WhatsApp user names to replace phone numbers:
– After years of user requests, WhatsApp is finally catching up with platforms like Telegram and Signal. The Meta-owned messaging app is working on a long-awaited feature—Usernames—that will allow users to connect without revealing their phone numbers. According to a report by WABetaInfo (via Tecnoblog), the latest beta build includes evidence of the new username feature. This change marks a major privacy shift: users will soon be able to share a unique username instead of their phone number when chatting with new contacts.
– Here’s what that means: You can send your username instead of your phone number. If someone messages you without having your number saved, they’ll see your username by default. This feature is designed to offer more control over who gets access to your personal information, especially helpful in group chats or with people outside your contact list. The EU countries agree to vote on a regulation that allows airlines to charge for hand luggage with the rejection of Spain: {Translation, summary}
– The 27 EU member states have agreed on a regulation reform allowing airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, to charge for cabin hand luggage beyond a new free allowance that fits under the seat.
– This decision, opposed by Spain, Germany, Portugal, and Slovenia, and abstained by Austria and Estonia, still requires European Parliament approval. Spain has consistently opposed charging for hand luggage and fined five low-cost airlines €179 million for abusive practices including charging for hand luggage, seat reservations for dependents, and excessive fees.
– The reform also raises the minimum delay time for compensation claims from 3 to 4 or 6 hours, depending on flight length. Airlines’ obligation to provide free adjacent seats to dependents is limited to availability at check-in, often requiring passengers to pay extra to guarantee seating together. The regulation legalises charges for last-minute personal data changes and the “no show” policy, which Spain’s Supreme Court deemed abusive. Spanish officials criticise the reform as a setback for passenger rights, while Poland calls it a necessary compromise. Plug pulled on Malaga-based cruise company Alma Cruceros just six weeks after it launched its maiden voyage:
– Alma Cruceros – the luxury shipping company founded by Malaga-based Elisardo Sánchez – has announced the “definitive cessation of its activity” following the “unilateral and unjustified termination of the charter contract by the ship’s owner”, which, according to the company, has made it impossible “to continue with the solutions that were being explored to keep the project operational”.
– According to an article by Cinco Días, the ship Alma Cruceros was using was seized due to non-payments to the consignee Lantimar Group, which is in charge of paying port services and fees. On 20 May, the ship’s activity ceased at the port of Malaga and the vessel has now been transferred to Gibraltar to be auctioned.
– Alma Cruceros announced that it will process all customer and supplier claims through the [reservas@almacruceros.com] email. “We are working with insurers and legal advisers to give an orderly response to all those affected,” said the company’s spokespersons.
