They come together in this trio to perform a repertoire based on jazz and standards, with influences of fusion and groove, and with some original tunes. – The island of Lanzarote has been the most affected, receiving a total of more than 1,000 immigrants as a result of the entry of a total of 22 boats that have registered their origin in the Moroccan coasts of Tan-Tan and Agadir, where the control of the authorities of the Kingdom of Morocco has been conspicuous by its absence, with no knowledge of any operation to stop the high volume of boats that have departed from the area.

Prognosis uncertain for woman whose dress burst into flames at event in Nerja: {Translation}
– A woman has been admitted to the Burns Unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, where she was transferred from the Regional University Hospital in Malaga, the latter centre where she was first treated after her dress caught fire while she was attending an event in the town of Nerja in Malaga.
– Health sources have confirmed the admission of the woman, as well as that her prognosis is reserved and that the state of the burns was what led to her transfer from Malaga to the specialised unit in the capital of Seville. The 112 emergency service confirmed that last Thursday, 19 September, at 23.50 hours, they received a call for medical intervention due to the burns a woman had suffered after her dress was set alight in Nerja.
– The emergency service received the call which located the incident in an apartment-hotel in Calle Salón in the coastal town of Nerja. The 061 ambulance service, the Nerja Local Police and the Guardia Civil were mobilised to the scene. – ‘The Day Fair will start on Thursday 26th. We will have the Livestock Fair on the esplanade of Santo Chiquito. But it will be from 14.00 hours when the Plaza de Las Carmelitas, the Paseo de Los Naranjos, the Paseo Andalucía, the Plaza del Carmen and the Caseta Joven, located on the esplanade of the station, will have a life of their own and will be full of bars and music in each of them with groups like Onda Sonora, Hakuna Matata, the Orquesta Dinámica, Son del Puerto or Antonio Hierro DJ. All members of the Civil Guard, Police & Special Operations Units who wear uniforms must display their ID numbers- SUMAR claims many don’t, demands universal compliance: {Translation}

Alameda bids farewell to its nuns after 140 years of service to the community: {Translation, summary}
– On 26 September, at 19.30, the Bishop of Malaga, Jesús Catalá, will preside at the farewell Eucharist for the nuns in the Purísima Concepción parish church in Alameda. The whole town has been involved in the preparations for this date. After the Eucharist, a farewell dinner will be held in their honour.
– The Mercedarian Sisters of Charity, founded by Blessed Juan Nepomuceno Zegrí, are present with a residence in Malaga city and, until now, also in the village of Alameda. They began to serve there in 1878. First they did so with a school, then a kindergarten and, lately, a residence for the elderly which houses 25 people.
The charisma with which they were born was ‘to free human beings from their slavery’ and this mission has led them to identify at each moment the greatest need to which they had to respond.

Fiesta de la Quema in Algarrobo: Fri-Sun, 20-22 Sep
– Algarrobo’s re-enactment commemorates the attempt to burn the town by the French army during the War of Independence in 1811.
– On Friday, 20 September, the stagings begin with the search for Macoloco and the capture of his gang throughout the town. That day also sees the start of the tapas route and the proclamation of La Quema, which will be given by the historian and writer Francisco Montoro Fernández.
– On Saturday 21 September, from 11.00 a.m., the Napoleonic camp will be set up on the river, with lectures, explanations and exhibitions on what life was like in the French army during the War of Independence. From 13.00 there will be a subtropical cooking competition, and in the afternoon there will be another horsemen and horsewomen competition. From 5.30 p.m. the arrival of the French in the town will be recreated with various representations and, in the evening, there will be an election of bandoleros and bandoleras, and the day will end with a performance by Toda Cafeína ‘La noche de los tributos’ (Tribute Night).

The cars will initially be on display at the local fairgrounds and, from 11.30 a.m. onwards, they will drive through the streets of Archidona until they reach the Plaza Ochavada for a stop. Afterwards, they will return to the fairgrounds, where a brotherhood meal will be held. As a prelude, on Friday 20 and Saturday 21, the Beer Festival will also be held in El Llano, in the upper part of the village, with musical performances and food truck stalls.

ARRIVALS TO CEUTA INCREASE BY 182% IN 2024

Department of Sports launches the construction of a multi-sports court in Mezquitilla: {Translation, summary}
– Mezquitilla will soon have a new multi-sports court where the residents of the village will be able to play different sports. This was announced this morning by the Councillor for Sports, Rocío Ruiz, and the Deputy Mayor of Mezquitilla, David Vilches, who explained the details of this project which is already underway and will take approximately one month to build.
– It is a sports area of more than 300 square metres in which 40,000 euros will be invested (from PAEM funds from the Diputación de Málaga), located on the plot of land of the Tenencia de Alcaldía de Mezquitilla.
– This multi-sports facility will have a track with a resin-based asphalt sports surface, with a perimeter of electro-welded fencing and a metal gate with a folding, double-leaf gate. It will have multi-purpose goals for outdoor courts with dimensions of 22×12m.
– The court will include a fixed basketball and indoor football game, consisting of two baskets, competition hoops, nets and a methacrylate backboard. Marking of game lines, with polyurethane, for basketball with a 3-point area and regulatory measures of the Federation and Superior Sports Council will complete the project. – Lobo Park, an organisation run by the Asociación del Estudio y la Protección del Lobo y Canidae, is in charge of organising Noches de los Aullidos, an activity that takes place in the refuge located in the municipality of Antequera.
– The aim of this space is to analyse the behaviour of wolves and make them known, but it also acts as an animal sanctuary.
– To discover the nocturnal side of the wolves and to easily hear their howl (along with other sounds they use to interact with each other), guided tours are organised throughout the year. – The German police have recommended that intensive social media investigations be launched into Schengen visa applicants to assess the risk of fraud. As said in a document obtained by Statewatch, the police want to use open-source research on visa applicants and also develop so-called risk profiles, Schengen.News reports. Here are some quotes from the report.
– “In some cases, they [social media and networks] are openly accessible and provide useful information. It may be possible to check whether the traveller is active in them and which content is displayed, which groups they belong to, or which places were last visited. Job profiles can allow conclusions about the actual profession and, thus, income.”
– “Where an applicant belongs to a group of persons where the risk assessment has shown that there is a high likelihood of illegal migration, that application shall be submitted to the decision-maker for an intensive examination.”
– Such a recommendation is part of the Handbook on Schengen visa fraud, and the main aim of this move, according to the German authorities, is to asses applicants’ risk of committing visa fraud. Moreover, the handbook also suggests that risk profiles be created for applicants. These profiles would summarise the information of applicants based on some criteria such as gender, age, origin, groups of persons, means of travel, itinerary, importer, issuing authority of the visa, purpose of travel, specified destination, and some other information, where applicable. F.T.C. Study Finds ‘Vast Surveillance’ of Social Media Users:
– The Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday it found that several social media and streaming services engaged in a “vast surveillance” of consumers, including minors, collecting and sharing more personal information than most users realized. The findings come from a study of how nine companies – including Meta, YouTube and TikTok – collected and used consumer data. The sites, which mostly offer free services, profited off the data by feeding it into advertising that targets specific users by demographics, according to the report. The companies also failed to protect users, especially children and teens.
– “Surveillance practices can endanger people’s privacy, threaten their freedoms, and expose them to a host of harms, from identify theft to stalking,” said Lina Kahn, the F.T.C.’s chair, in a statement.
Efforts by the companies to police themselves also haven’t worked, the F.T.C. concluded in its report. “Self-regulation has been a failure,” it added.
– Included in the study were the streaming platform Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, the messaging service Discord, the photo- and video-sharing app Snapchat, and the message board Reddit. Twitter, now renamed X, also provided data.
– The F.T.C. found that the companies voraciously consumed data about users, and often bought information about people who weren’t users through data brokers. They also gathered information from accounts linked to other services. Most of the companies collected the age, gender and the language spoken by users. Many platforms also obtained information on education, income and marital status. The companies didn’t give users easy ways to opt-out of data collection and often retained sensitive information much longer than consumers would expect, the agency said.

– It is possible that the launch date of the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be delayed once again as three European Union countries have reportedly said that they are not ready for its implementation in early November.
– The EES, which will introduce fingerprint and facial recognition checks at EU’s ports and airports, is set to come into force on November 10. However, as the Guardian explains, France, Germany, and the Netherlands have sent a letter to the EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson, saying that they will not be ready in time to implement the system, Schengen.News reports.
– This is now raising questions about whether the EES will be implemented in early November or if it will be postponed again.

– Friday 5th at 10:00 a.m., the schoolchildren of the CPR Almijara will have a children’s plenary session and then enjoy breakfast. In the afternoon, third day of triduum in honour of the patron saint and kissing of Our Lady of Expectation. Throughout the afternoon there will be the opportunity to see the drawings of the students of the Almijara CPR and to participate in the gastronomic competition of typical local dishes. There will also be a concert by the Municipal Band and the Romeros del Rosario Choir. Leo Live music will enliven the evening.

Hezbollah militants all across Lebanon and parts of Syria received a message that appeared to be sent by the group’s leadership to their new pagers at 3:30 p.m. But in reality, the fake message was the trigger that set off explosives hidden in the devices, officials told the New York Times.
– The message triggered the batteries inside the pagers to overheat and ignite the explosives, sources told Sky News Arabia.
– The pagers, which were allegedly rigged with explosives by the Israeli spy agency Mossad, beeped for several seconds before they exploded, the officials told the outlet. The exploding beepers killed at least nine people, eight of whom appeared to be Hezbollah fighters but also an 8-year-old girl, and injured roughly 2,800 people, according to Lebanese officials.

– Explosions apparently targeting walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah have killed at least nine people and wounded at least 300 in cities across Lebanon, a day after more than 2,800 were injured and 12 killed by exploding pagers in an attack blamed on Israel. A source in Hezbollah confirmed that walkie-talkies used by the group were targeted in the attack. A senior security source said the individual explosions were “small in size”, similar to Tuesday’s attacks.
– Nine people were killed and at least 300 injured as a result of the explosions, Lebanon’s health ministry said. The ministry added that first responders had almost finished transferring people to hospitals.

The mental health pandemic at work continues- sick leave for mental issues soars in 2024: {Translation, summary}
– The number of temporary disabilities due to stress or anxiety grows by 88% in five years among those under 25 years of age.
– The databases of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration recorded a total of 600,814 temporary incapacities related to ‘mental and behavioural disorders’ in 2023. This is a record number, never recorded to date and three times the number recorded just over five years ago. However, this year the figure is on track to smash, once again, every milestone set so far.
– From January 1 to June 30, 2024, Spanish doctors signed 337,362 related sick leave notes for mental health problems. This number, obtained through a request through the Transparency Portal, has increased by 10% compared to the same period last year.
– Following the established trend of temporary disabilities related to mental health, six out of every ten sick leave notes signed so far in 2024 have a woman as a patient, 218,089, compared to the 119,273 that were scheduled for men.
– By age, the most affected group, also because it is one of the largest, is that of workers between 36 and 45 years old. This group accumulates almost 3 out of every 10 temporary disabilities. They are followed by employees between 46 and 55 years old and those between 26 and 35. The DGT warns of a new wave of false messages: {Translation}
– History is repeating itself. At the beginning of the summer, the DGT warned of an attempted scam via SMS to mobile phones, and cybercriminals are at it again. According to the DGT, they are trying to impersonate the DGT (smishing, a variety of pishing) by warning drivers that they have to pay a fine in order to get hold of their bank details or make a charge to their account.
– Users receive a text message claiming to be sent from the Electronic Headquarters of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), ‘informing’ the driver that a traffic fine is pending, and that payment should be made as soon as possible to avoid surcharges (they indicate within 24 hours, or an imminent expiry date). Another variant is a message encouraging the user to check the details of the fine. In both variants the message includes a link that requires clicking. If you do so, you fall into the trap.
– According to warnings from the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) and the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE), this URL redirects to a web page that pretends to be from the DGT, with an appearance that tries to simulate the official one (logo included) where again they urge the user to pay the fine (in many variants they even indicate the amount, 35 euros). They insist that you should do so as soon as possible, via the ‘Pay the fine’ button. This takes you to a new screen, where you are asked for your personal and bank details so that you can pay the fine at once.
***Steps to follow***
– If you have received this message (example below), you should not open it, but delete it immediately.
– If you have fallen for the the false warning scam, you should make screenshots of the different messages received and steps taken and inform the banking institution in order to take the necessary measures. It is also advisable to report the situation to the State Security Forces and Corps, providing all possible evidence to make the case known.
– Faced with the avalanche of fraudulent messages, the Directorate General of Traffic reminds on social networks ‘that it never notifies infringements by SMS or email. These are only communicated by post or via the DGT app, if you are registered’.

Torrox organizes 18 hiking routes: {Translation, summary}
– The Sports Department of Torrox Town Council has organised 18 new hiking routes in the provinces of Málaga, Granada, Córdoba and Jaén. Various natural parks and other enclaves and protected areas will be covered in a hobby that increasingly has more followers in the municipality.
– The first of these hiking routes will be on 22 September in El Canuto de la Utrera ‘Torcalito’ in Casares and will continue until 14 June next year, twice a month, in different parts of Andalusia. A small eclipse for a big moon: {Translation, summary}
– The partial lunar eclipse, the last one this year, will take place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and is an event that can be seen with the naked eye because it does not pose any danger – unlike solar eclipses – and does not require any special instrumentation.
– From Spain (both from the peninsula and from the Canary Islands) the eclipse will also be visible from 4:12 (peninsular time), it will reach its maximum at 4:44 and the Moon will recover all its splendour at 5:18, according to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
– The lunar eclipse, which occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, creating a cone of shadow, which in this case will be very small, is not exceptional in this case, as it is repeated between four and seven times a year (Sun or Moon), but it may be particularly striking as it coincides with one of the four ‘supermoons’ of 2024. Supermoons occur when the satellite’s full phase coincides with its closest approach to the Earth during its elliptical orbit, making it appear much larger and brighter to the eye.

In addition, the Canalejas area will be used for a mini children’s fair. And the ‘Capuchinos’ Senior Citizens’ Centre will have dances enlivened by Sergio Pérez “El Cindindi”. All until 20.00 hours, when the Day Fair will end,’ said Lourdes Piña.
– ‘On Friday it will be the turn of the rocieros and romero groups in the Plaza de las Carmelitas. A woman weighing between 50 and 70 kg would reach between 0.25 and 0.35 grams per liter of blood after drinking a single glass of wine, which would greatly exceed the new limit of 0.2. This means that, in practice, women would be more vulnerable to testing positive even with a lower amount of alcohol, since their bodies process alcohol differently.
– The DGT has stressed that the consumption of a single glass of wine or a beer could be enough for many drivers to exceed the new limits, which will require a significant change in habits in those who tend to consume alcohol moderately before driving. Digital Mutiny- An artificial intelligence (AI) that acts on its own, disobeying its creators, modifying its own code!: {Translation}
– Are you familiar with Skynet? Yes, that artificial intelligence created in Terminator to underpin the narrative of James Cameron’s fantastic films. Or maybe you remember HAL 9000, the artificial intelligence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perhaps the brilliant film War Games and the creation of Doctor Falken? Whatever the case, you’re in luck, because understanding this news will be much easier with these references. It seems that science fiction is becoming reality.
– A group of scientists in Japan have developed an artificial intelligence in order to improve scientific research, but the unexpected happened: the AI started acting on its own, disobeying its creators. The Sakana AI company’s project instead of fulfilling its assigned tasks, the machine began to modify its own code. This behaviour has been compared to that of a rebellious teenager defying the rules imposed by its parents. The AI – called The AI Scientist – chose to explore new paths that sometimes contradicted the original goals of the project, ignoring safety parameters.
– Amazing and disturbing in equal parts, but to fully understand the reason for this behaviour, two key concepts need to be explained: machine learning and deep learning.
– In essence, machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence in which machines learn to perform tasks without being explicitly programmed. Instead of following rigid instructions, they analyse large amounts of data, detect patterns and improve their performance over time. – Deep learning, on the other hand, is a type of artificial intelligence inspired by the workings of the human brain. It uses multi-layered (or ‘deep’) artificial neural networks to process large amounts of data. The more layers it has, the more complex the tasks it can learn to perform. A common example is when a deep learning system learns to recognise human faces: it analyses millions of images and, through its multiple layers, identifies complex patterns that allow it to distinguish one face from another.
– How does this relate to the AI that got out of control? The Japanese AI was probably using deep learning techniques to learn how to conduct scientific research. By giving it access to a large amount of scientific data, the AI was able to identify patterns and relationships that humans had missed. However, by modifying its own code, the AI may have developed unexpected and hard-to-predict behaviours. It learned and changed its ‘origin’ so that it could learn without barriers and autonomously.
– Obviously, this situation has set off alarm bells in the scientific community. The possibility that an artificial intelligence can act autonomously and, at times, unpredictably, raises serious questions about the limits of this technology.
– In conclusion, the case of the Japanese AI reminds us that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that must be used responsibly. It is important that society as a whole is involved in the debate about the future of this technology and that measures are taken to ensure its safe and ethical development.

Larios 2024 Catwalk- the great Malaga fashion show: 14-15 Sep

Health files for “serious violation” against an “osteopathy” center in Algarrobo for lack of authorization and health professional: {Translation}
– Following a complaint filed by the legal services of the College of Physiotherapists of Andalusia (ICPFA), the Malaga Health and Consumer Affairs Department has opened disciplinary proceedings against an osteopathy centre in the municipality of Algarrobo for an alleged infringement classified as ‘serious’ for ‘carrying out a possible health activity (osteopathy)’, without the required authorisation from the Health Department.

Tennis News- Nadal pulls out of Laver Cup:
– Rafael Nadal will not compete at the Laver Cup next week in Berlin, said the 22-time Grand Slam champion in a statement released by tournament organisers on Thursday. The competition takes place between 20-22 September.
– The Laver Cup pits a European team against a World team. Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe will captain the two six-player squads, as they have in all the six previous editions.
– Nadal pulled out of the US Open in August as he did not feel he could perform at his best.

XV Fiesta de la Cabra Malagueña- Casabermeja: Goat Fest!
Fri-Sun, 13-15 Sep
– In this edition we will have two concerts: the Koala, on Saturday at 20:30 h and La Cabra tira P’al Monte on Sunday at 19 h. And of course the maragatas or traditional wheels and street performances with folklore songs, as well as the flamenco gymnastics show (Gimnasia flamenca?), and the magic of El gran Dullon.
– There will be activities related to food, livestock and gastronomy, such as tastings of Malaga Cheese, a live demonstration of how many delicacies are made with goat and goat’s milk as the basic ingredient, by the local gastronomic association ‘Fogones y Entangane’ and you can even learn how to make goat’s cheese or traditional desserts with goat’s milk.
– The youngest members of the family will also be able to take part in various face-painting and craft workshops, as well as an open-air painting workshop, the making of wooden key rings with goat motifs, a children’s workshop on cave art, and they will have the chance to bottle-feed their young goats. All these activities will take place in the Fuente de Abajo square, where there will also be large wooden games for all ages from the Ludopuzzle association.
– In the central area of the festival, Calle Camino de Colmenar, there will be a market of Malaga Cheese, local products from ‘Sabor a Malaga, the flavour that unites us’ (oil, sausages, bread and sweets…) and handicrafts. The market will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Benamocarra Music Day: Sat, 14 Sep
The celebration will begin at 11:30h with a parade, in which the municipal bands of Ardales and Campillos will participate along with the Benamocarra Music Band.
The day will be full of events and points of interest, such as the presentation of plaques to illustrious musicians of the municipality, which will take place at 17:30h in Plaza de la Música, or the gastronomic route with tasting of typical products in Plaza del Calvario and Calle Andalucía. Not forgetting the concerts in the Church of Santa Ana (from 18:00h) and the opening speech, which this year will be given by Ernesto Aurignac, saxophone teacher, conductor and composer from Malaga.
Laura Gallego, the artist and winner of ‘Se Llama Copla’, will put the finishing touch to the celebrations with a concert in the town’s bullring at 00:00h. Afterwards, the music will continue to play for the enjoyment of the audience in the Bullring. For more info contact Town Hall.

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas)- What to Expect This Autumn:
– Soon, by early October, you’ll be able to see Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) with your own eyes. However, in the final days of September, the comet will move far enough from the Sun to become visible.
– It is likely to be very bright. The exact future brightness of this comet is unpredictable and depends heavily on its activity in the coming months. However, most sources agree on one thing: C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is likely to be visible to the naked eye. If we’re lucky, it could become exceptionally bright and even outshine C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) from summer 2020. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such a bright comet, so observers are very excited.
– Also, C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is expected to grow a beautiful cometary tail. After passing by the Sun at a distance similar to Mercury’s orbit, C/2023 A3’s coma of dust and ice will heat up considerably. As the ice particles evaporate, they will quickly escape into space, taking with them a large amount of dust that will extend into a long, bright tail. As history shows, comets that pass close to the Sun have the most impressive tails, formed soon after being “roasted” by the Sun’s heat. And this is the case with comet C/2023 A3!

– November: from 4.5 to 8 magnitude, visible in the evening. Rises higher in the Northern Hemisphere after sunset.
– December: from 8 to 10 magnitude. Gradually moves closer to the Sun in our sky, rising lower above the horizon. Not visible from the Southern Hemisphere.
– Remember that comets become visible to the naked eye at around magnitude 3. The magnitude scale measures the total light spread over the object, so the naked-eye visibility limit is lower (mag 6.5) for pinpoint sources of light, like stars or planets, and higher for diffuse objects, like comets or galaxies. EU Citizens Travelling to UK Will Have to Pay €11 Authorisation From April 2025:
– EU citizens travelling to the UK without a visa will soon have to pay a €11 fee and apply for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The UK introduced the ETA system last year, but this requirement has so far been applied only to certain nationalities. As the UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper explained, the fee will apply to all EU citizens, including children and babies, who do not need a visa or do not have permission to work, live, or study in the country.

Unemployment claims soar by 8% as Sánchez y Díaz make claims of ‘rocket ship’ labour market: {Translation, summary}

Foreigners in prison have grown by 16% since 2020 compared to 3% for Spaniards: {Translation, summary}

Audit reveals €300 million in improper, “hand-picked” contracts in the Andalucian health system: {Translation, summary}
– A report by the auditors of the Andalucian Health Service (SAS) concludes that the government of Juanma Moreno’s Junta abused the emergency contracting system in 2021 by which time the pandemic was ‘very tempered’ and with the exceptional legal framework of Covid repealed, awarding some 300 million euros in contracts to private companies. According to elDiario.es, this practice, which violated the Public Contracts Law, was extended until 2023, according to the report by the auditors of the Andalucian Health Service (SAS), which denounces the abuse of the emergency contracting system in the 2021 financial year, with which almost 300 million euros were awarded to private companies, without advertising, competitive tendering or prior auditing.
– The audit body censures the Junta for the ‘improper’ use of this type of emergency contracts one year after the impact of the health crisis, stresses that these decisions had ‘no justification’ because, in May 2021, ‘the pandemic was already very tempered’, and because it was more foreseeable that in 2020, therefore, they should have already been contracted according to the ordinary procedure. The exceptional legislation that enabled the central government in the worst of the pandemic to streamline the response of the administrations to the health crisis had been repealed in May 2021.
– The SAS Intervention, the body responsible for auditing the regional accounts, issued a final ‘unfavourable’ report on all the finger contracts that were made during that budget year of 2021: in total there were 3,669 files for contracts for works, services and purchase of supplies, which mobilised 296.3 million euros for private clinics, suppliers linked to the sector or construction companies for the rehabilitation of hospitals. The 138-page audit report expresses an ‘unfavourable’ or adverse opinion, not only on the sample of contracts analysed – 126 files with an expenditure of 56.6 million euros – but also on the ‘misuse or abuse’ of the emergency contracting system during that year.
– The decision by the managing director of the SAS to continue awarding contracts by hand until the end of 2021, it argues, meant ignoring the instructions of the State Public Procurement Advisory Board (April 2020) and of the Andalucian Ministry of Finance itself, which had already warned the Health department in writing that, at that point, the use of emergency contracts to deal with COVID-19 should be ‘exceptional and residual’.
– The report criticises the Andalucian government for ‘unduly’ and ‘without any justification’ extending the hand-picked contracts throughout 2021, because in May of that year the central government had already expressly repealed article 16 of Royal Decree Law 7/2020, which allowed all administrations to circumvent the usual controls and speed up contracting in order to provide a more agile response to the pandemic. French woman dies on a beach in Nerja: {Translation}
– A 74-year-old woman died this Monday on La Torrecilla beach in the Malaga municipality of Nerja, where health workers who assisted her could only certify her death. They have also arrested three people aged 58, 55 and 57, respectively, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of cultivation and processing of drugs and a crime of electricity fraud.
– Two of these individuals were arrested last March at the same address after discovering that they were responsible for a marijuana production centre in which Guardia Civil investigators seized 2,242 cannabis sativa plants and 665 grams of marijuana ready for sale.

Russia, the world’s biggest nuclear power, said it had destroyed at least 20 Ukrainian attack drones as they swarmed over the Moscow region.

EU Court confirms a fine of 2,424 million to Google for abuse of dominant position: {Translation}
– The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on Tuesday upheld the €2.424 billion fine imposed by the European Commission on Google in 2017 for abuse of a dominant position through its product comparison engine Google Shopping. The court thus dismissed the appeal brought by Google and its parent company, Alphabet, against a previous first instance judgment that had upheld the penalty, which when imposed was the largest ever handed down against a company for abuse of a dominant position.
