Car Boot/Market. Sunday 7th July:
The popular monthly car boot/market held at El Pantano restaurant car park (overlooking Lake Vinuela) is on Sunday 7th July. Time 9.30 to 1pm.
Location is easy to find at Km. 30 on the A356.
If you are approaching from the coast/Velez Malaga, drive over the bridge crossing Lake Vinuela and the car park/bar is just ahead on the right-hand side. Plenty of parking.
Lots of stalls with a large variety of goods for sale and plenty of bargains to be had!
New stall holders always welcome.
Please note that we will be taking our usual summer break in August, so there will be no market during that month. We will resume our normal schedule again in September.

Programming for July 2024 at Gibralfaro Castle & Alcazaba Patio in Malaga:
– The historic stages of the Gibralfaro Castle main square and the fountain patio of the Alcazaba will once again host the Julio Musical concert series with seven sessions to be held between the 11th and 21st of this month.
– The main square of Gibralfaro Castle will host the performances on July 11, 14, 17 and 21, while the fountain patio of the Alcazaba in Málaga will host the concerts on July 12, 18 and 20. July. All performances will begin at 10:00 p.m., all €15 entry.
– The Malaga City Council launches a free transport service to facilitate movement through a system of shuttle buses that will leave from the Plaza del General Torrijos, near the main door of the Noble Hospital, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with return to the point of origin at the end of the concerts.

El Morche Fair 2024: August 14 to 18.
– The big performances, all free of charge, will begin on Thursday 15th with a concert by Los Brincos, as part of their 60th anniversary tour. Friday 16th will be an eighties night with the rock of La Guardia, on their 40th anniversary tour. Saturday 17th will be a concert by the group Pop FM. And on Sunday the 18th the Feria de El Morche will close with a stellar performance by Chenoa.
– In this edition there will also be a big Day Fair in La Carraca and another one in Calle Axarquía, in the Costamar area. In addition, every night the music and dancing will continue until dawn with the orchestras D’Vertigo and Alalba.

Warning of the “alarming” lack of nurses in Malaga this summer- “The situation is critical”: {Translation}
– No summer is ever good for healthcare, but this one looks set to be particularly complicated for professionals and, therefore, for patients. The doctors of the Regional Hospital of Malaga already warned at the end of June, when they said that this is “the worst” in cuts and denounced that between the Regional and the Clinic almost 170 beds are closed; the Medical Union of Malaga (SMM) also denounced that from 1 July 20 of the 27 health centres of the Malaga District will not be open in the afternoons. And now, the Malaga College of Nurses warns of the “alarming” lack of nurses in the province this summer and calls for “immediate and effective” measures. This is the scenario described by the nurses for a season in which the population is growing considerably due to tourism.
– The Official College has expressed its “deep concern” about a situation which, far from improving, “worsens” during the summer season. Behind the shortage of nurses, this body points to the fact that many professionals are migrating to other provinces or countries where working conditions are more favourable as the main factor. In short, “the lack of stable job opportunities”. “The proliferation of temporary contracts and precarious working conditions deters many nurses from staying in the region,” lamented José Miguel Carrasco, president of the Malaga College of Nurses.
– Carrasco has also added “insufficient funding” in the health sector as another cause of this shortage of professionals, as “it has limited the capacity of health centres and hospitals to recruit the necessary staff”. “This translates into a greater workload and less personalised care for patients,” he insists.
– The College of Nurses points out that the closure of health centres in the evenings during the summer due to lack of staff “is a clear indicator of this crisis” which leads, it stresses, to reduced access to health services for the population and an increased workload for nurses, an “excessive” workload – they say – which can lead to “professional burnout”.
– But the problem is not only for the professionals. “The quality of care received by patients is compromised, as each professional has less time and resources to attend to each person adequately,” says Carrasco. According to Carrasco, “not only is the health and well-being of professionals being put at risk, but also that of the population”.
– Thus, from the Official College of Nursing in Malaga they make an “urgent” appeal to the competent authorities to take “immediate and effective measures”. “The health of our community depends on the presence of enough well-trained nursing professionals in fair working conditions. It is imperative that swift and determined action is taken to reverse this critical situation and guarantee quality healthcare,” they conclude. This Week’s Large Malpractice Payout From The Andalusian Health Service, Plus Another Huge Claim In The Works, Both Involve Gauze Pads Left In Bodies After Operations: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Health Service will have to pay compensation of almost 160,000 euros to a Motrilian who for more than fourteen years suffered complications from a gauze pad left inside his body after an operation. And he is not alone
– Particularly distressing is the case of a middle-aged man, whose case has come to the attention of this newspaper, and who is demanding 157,931 euros from the Andalusian Health Service after having been unaware for seven months that he had not one but two gauze pads inside his body. A situation that not only caused him intense pain and bruising, but also led to spinal injuries, known as myelopathy, which left him permanently disabled. But the story does not end there, because when they were discovered, they were already so integrated into the musculature – in fact, only the filaments were visible – that they could not be completely removed! The case, still at the administrative complaint stage, is being handled by the Granada law firm of Ana Prieto and Gema Marcos. This is NOT legal advice, it is my opinion only! These legal cases for malpractice are a legal specialty. The methodologies, research & resources required to build a successful medical malpractice case with a reasonable award are considerable, requiring a large law firm, with some staff dedicated only to malpractice cases. These are typically located in large cities. Some all purpose lawyers may tell you there is no case, possibly because fighting the SAS will put them in a poor light with local politicians. Or perhaps they will take the case, but simply settle out of court for a fraction of what is really deserved. Specialist law firms from Madrid or Sevilla may have a different opinion, and possibly take the case after a telephone interview and receiving copies of the supporting docs. These big city law firms are immune from local politics, focused instead on winning and maximizing your award. For the best results, malpractice cases should be handled by a big city law firm dedicated to medical injury claims. Again, just my opinion. There may well be some small, local law firms capable of processing a successful malpractice claim. I just never found them. Readers are welcome to recommend any medical malpractice lawyers they have personally had good results with. Fiasco of the Government app that blocks children from porn- it allows access to the top 10 porn sites: {Translation, summary}
– The mobile application ‘Digital Portfolio beta’, developed by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, has been presented as the solution to limit minors’ access to pornographic content. However, this tool does not restrict the ten most visited porn websites in Spain, exposing a major flaw in its functioning.
– Last Monday, during the official presentation, the Ministry highlighted the safety and effectiveness of the app. However, a detailed analysis reveals that the tool, which will be available in its first version at the end of the summer, only affects porn websites based in Spain. This means that it does not have the capacity to block the most popular websites, as these are hosted abroad and belong to large multinational groups. This failure to restrict access means that the vast majority of users will not see their consumption pattern altered, as the app only affects those who access Spanish porn sites. {This amateurish epic failure, that could have been avoided if they had consulted any teenager, along with all the other government tech gaffs, exposes the unbelievably weak level of government technology resources. How much taxpayer funding did this joke of a project receive? These are the same inept people who want to be entrusted with collecting & saving data on every aspect of our lives, and one day controlling our cashless society. – The lack of coordination between administrations in the face of the immigration phenomenon is jeopardising the Junta’s capacity for the reception and protection of unaccompanied minors arriving from other countries. The Regional Minister for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Loles López, has revealed that since last November the Spanish Government has transferred 454 migrants considered adults from the Canary Islands to Andalusia, who once they were in this community it was concluded that they were minors, so the community took charge of their guardianship.
– This circumstance has collapsed the capacity of the regional administration to attend to these children and adolescents, which is already at 115 percent.
– According to Andalusian government sources, the Spanish government does not recognise these transfers of migrant minors disguised as adults, which is why they were identified as minors after the Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened and following a warning from the social organisations that work with them. – Former women’s association members have started a petition against The Reggaeton Beach Festival (RBF) due to take place on Nerja’s Playazo beach on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. A number of former members of the now defunct Feministas de Nerja group have started collecting signatures via social media against the festival, which they are calling “an affront to women’s rights”.
– The women have voiced their “absolute rejection and repulsion” for the ‘reggaeton’ festival that the town’s youth council has organised. “The festival will feature well-known national artists of this musical style. As feminist women we want to show that the choice of this festival is an affront to women’s rights, because the lyrics are a synthesis of a culture that incites rape, sexual assault and shows absolute contempt for the identity and freedom of women,” the group’s social media presence says.

What is Reggaeton music, and why does it upset local feminists?: {Britannica}
– Reggaeton, {a} genre of music largely shaped by the African diaspora, blending such styles as dancehall from Jamaica, reggae en español from Panama, el underground from Puerto Rico, and hip-hop from the United States. Reggaeton’s signature characteristics include a beat called “dem bow” and lyrics sung primarily in Spanish.
– Although the beginnings of reggaeton are disputed, many historians point to Panama City, where the descendants of West Indian workers, many of whom had emigrated from Jamaica and Barbados to help build the Panama Canal, created a new type of music called reggae en español. It arose in the early 1980s when MCs, including Leonardo (“Renato”) Aulder and Edgardo Franco (who would later be known as El General), began translating Jamaican dancehall, an updated form of reggae that had become popular in the 1970s, to Spanish.
– Although the performers covered many English-language songs, they also created a few of the genre’s earliest hits, including Renato’s “El D.E.N.I.” (1985). The song speaks to the unique discrimination Black English-speaking Panamanians often experienced. About the same time, hip-hop was growing in the United States, and artists from New York City were rapping about racism in that country.

The Noise was where Ivy Queen, one of the few women in the male-dominated genre, Daddy Yankee, and other future reggaeton performers tested their talents. It was also the spot for the perreo, a sexual dance move that soon became associated with the music. Like reggae en español and hip-hop in Spanish, underground was known for having homophobic, misogynistic, and sexually explicit lyrics.
– However, it also addressed racism and life in the caseríos, the low-income housing projects on the island. Indeed, during the 1990s underground singers and listeners, many of whom lived in the caseríos, were targeted as drug dealers and other criminals during the government’s anti-crime campaign, Mano Dura Contra el Crimen (“Iron Fist Against Crime”). Yet the initiative only grew underground’s popularity and strengthened its reputation as a music of resistance.
– At about the turn of the 21st century, underground became known as reggaeton. LaLiga Demands €450 After ISPs Log Subscriber’s Visits to Pirate Servers:
– This February, Spanish football league LaLiga obtained a court order that supposedly allowed it to pursue mere viewers of pirate IPTV. A local court soon clarified that viewers would not be targeted. However, letters from LaLiga’s lawyers, demanding 450 euros to prevent legal action, run counter to those assurances. That the letters appear to rely on evidence supplied by Spanish ISPs, indicating which of their customers accessed specific ‘pirate’ servers, is of even greater concern!

Helping Parents Protect Kid’s Online Activities & Slow The Huge Spike In Sex-related Violence Among Youth – Viewing Porn In Spain Will Soon Require Registering Your ID With The Gov’t & Installing Their App “Cartera Digital”: {Translation, summary}

– According to figures provided by the Executive, the first access to pornography in Spain is now between the ages of 9 and 11. From adolescence onwards, 70% of minors consume pornography “on a regular basis”, mainly via mobile phones.
– This consumption has an impact on the way they conceive intimate relationships, generating “emotional and sexual problems”, a “distorted perception of sexuality” and a “serious risk of addiction”, Escrivá said. – 0patch, a paid subscription service, announced today that it plans to offer security patches for Windows 10 for at least five years after its official end of life, giving customers a chance to stick to their current devices without significant security compromises. With 0patch, Windows 10 users will be getting fixes for critical security vulnerabilities discovered after October 14, 2025 (that is when Windows 10 will receive its final free update).
– Windows 10 customers who do not want or cannot upgrade their systems to Windows 11 after Windows 10’s end of life will have two other options: pay Microsoft for the Extended Security Program (three years, available for businesses and home users) or do nothing and stick to the unsupported OS with no updates.

Triana’s VII Perseid Meteor Shower Night Route: Sat, August 10
– The route is of medium-high level and with a distance of 12 kilometers (round trip).
– The start of the route is from the Café-Teatro de Triana. Then we pass through agricultural roads surrounded by avocado and mango trees where we will see the Buddhist Stupa of Kalachakra, then we arrive at La Torre de La Atalaya, one of the highest points in the surroundings and without light pollution. The amateur astronomer Carlos Castro will give an astronomical talk and interpretation of the Milky Way. Once his talk is over, we will witness the star shower and make wishes. You have to be in good physical shape and bring food.
– This route also promotes La Axarquía with typical products and at the end of the activity there will be a series of raffles related to the region and its gastronomy with the collaboration of various companies and municipalities. At the end of the route, there will be an aperitif prepared by Roberto Soler, from Sabores Torre del Mar. In addition, the proceeds from the registration fees will be donated to a different association each year. It should be remembered that the registration fee is 7 euros, of which 5 euros will go to the association and 2 euros will go towards organisational costs. There will also be a reception area for those residents who want to collaborate with the association and do not complete the route.

Man arrested in connection with 25 luxury property burglaries:
– A man has been arrested and a woman investigated for their alleged role in 25 burglaries of luxury homes in Mijas and Marbella. Guardia Civil officers launched their investigation following a spate of thefts from luxury homes on the Costa del Sol, where they found 19 were committed in the town of Mijas and six in the municipality of Marbella.
– According to the police force, the suspects allegedly cased out the houses and targeted those which were used by their owners as second homes. They then allegedly burgled the properties when the property owners were away and stole jewellery and money.
– The alleged suspect was located and a search was carried out in a house in Mijas where various items of jewellery from different burglaries and 14,695 euros in cash were discovered. – Diseases of the circulatory system are the leading cause of death in Andalusia in 2023, with a total of 20,360 deaths last year and a decrease of 7.8% compared to 2022.
– This figure differs from the national statistics, which place tumours as the leading cause of death with a total of 115,013 deaths in Spain in 2023 for the first time ahead of diseases of the circulatory system, which accumulated 114,865 deaths in the last year.

Man found dead in Nerja cave:
– The alarm was raised just after 4.30pm Tuesday when the 112 Andalucía emergency service number received a call about a dead person in a cave located next to the riverbed of the Nerja river, next to the municipal sports centre. Immediately the Local Police, Guardia Civil and emergency health services were notified. Guardia Civil officers were responsible for carrying out a visual inspection of the area. Subsequently, the body was removed.

All those consumers who signed a mortgage before June 2019, the date on which the new mortgage law came into force, and to whom the bank charged some concepts of the so-called clause of imposition of expenses can claim the return of the mortgage expenses: the totality of the registry, agency and appraisal expenses, as well as half of the notary expenses.
These costs, according to the new law, correspond to the bank with which the loan is signed, and not to the clients, so successive rulings have established that the banks must return this money to their clients.
– Until when can a claim be made? The new ruling establishes that customers will be able to claim the mortgage expenses of these concepts from the bank after a ruling that establishes these expenses and obliges them to be returned, as long as they were not aware of the imputation of these expenses, and regardless of the age of the mortgage or whether it has already been amortised or cancelled. The deadline for doing so will be five years from the date of said court ruling, in which the consumer may request the return of the charges plus the legal interest.
– How to request the return of the abusive charges?
To claim these amounts, if you have been affected, the best thing to do is to first inquire at the bank with which you have taken out the mortgage loan. If there is no satisfactory response, there are other alternatives where you can claim this right: the Bank of Spain’s claims service or the courts.
– In addition to your ID card, you will need to provide the mortgage deed (where the imposition of these payments must be stated), the invoice from the notary or the deed from the land registry, as well as from the agency or appraisal and the amount of the registration: proof of these unjustified charges. If you do not have them, you can try to ask the agency with which you made the arrangements, as they keep the records of these transactions. The fake electrical inspectors from Malaga who robbed elderly people all over Spain: {Translation}
– Four are arrested in Malaga, aged between 36 and 49, members of an itinerant group, for robbing elderly people posing as gas inspectors. – With the characteristics provided by the victims, who in many cases suffered from health problems, the investigators accumulated information on four individuals with a similar profile to the one reported. These men, residents of Malaga, had previous convictions for thefts with identical modus operandi. They are accused of a total of eleven thefts in Spain in which they were allegedly involved. This would demonstrate the itinerant nature of the suspects.
– After numerous enquiries and surveillance carried out on these people, the agents located them in a house where, again under the pretext of checking the electricity supply, they stole jewellery and money from an elderly man.
Moments after committing the act and without having lost sight of them, the agents stopped them, finding the hidden loot under the gear lever of the vehicle {pic} in which they were fleeing. They had taken 1,000 euros in cash and five collector’s watches. Two of the suspects were arrested.

Russia promises retaliation against US for Ukraine strike on Crimea:

Ozempic (Semaglutide) Spain’s best selling injection for weight loss already has competition- Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) promises superior weight losses: {Translation, summary}

He also explained that, for the time being, Mounjaro will not be marketed in Spain in its 15 milligram version, the most effective dose. “We believe that the presentations that are put on sale will cover the treatment of the majority of patients,” he said.
– Like Ozempic, the treatment is only intended for people who are unable to control their diabetes and overweight with conventional drugs or lifestyle changes, such as better diet or exercise.
– “Not for cosmetic use”. If semaglutide was a revolution in the care of both conditions, tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is a step further, assured yesterday the representatives of the scientific societies involved: the Spanish Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Obesity and Internal Medicine. But it comes with a warning: “It is not intended for cosmetic use. If you don’t have obesity, this drug is not going to do you any favours and may cause unwanted hormonal effects in the long term,” warned Mar Malagón, president of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity. Like Ozempic, the treatment is only intended for people who are unable to control their diabetes or obesity with conventional drugs or lifestyle changes, such as better diet or exercise.
– Why is it superior? Mounjaro also reduces appetite, improves satiety, delays gastric emptying and increases insulin production for weight loss and glucose control, just like its competitor. But it acts on two different hormone receptors: GLP-1 and GIP, which enhances its action and promotes drug tolerance. If there are any patients who are resistant to semaglutide drugs, they will have a new therapeutic option. Its mechanism of action reduces excess fat, including visceral fat, which accumulates around the waist circumference. “This is an indicator that shows us that not only weight is lost, but that fat is actually lost,” explained Javier Escalada, president of the Foundation of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition. And it achieves this earlier than other drugs.
– In people with type 2 diabetes, the results are striking. More than 90% of diabetics achieve glucose control and normalisation in half of the cases treated. “We cannot speak of a cure because type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease, but we can speak of a reversal,” says Escalada.
– In terms of weight, losses of up to 22.5% have been seen, which translated into kilos reaches 23.6 kg per year and four out of ten patients treated managed to lose more than 25 kilos, figures similar to those achieved by bariatric surgery. The average weight loss was 12.4 kg compared to 6.2 kg with Ozempic, as well as a decrease in cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
– Rebound effect and other problems. Like other similar drugs, the side effects are also similar. The main ones are gastric discomfort (nausea, diarrhoea, constipation…) which usually disappear over time and improve if taken gradually, starting with the lowest dose. Nor is Mounjaro free from the so-called rebound effect, although doctors insist that rather than a rebound effect it is a drug that is intended for a chronic condition. If you stop taking it, its ‘magic’ wears off.
– Other bad news is that the loss of visceral fat is accompanied by a loss of muscle mass, as with other similar treatments, which must be countered by increased protein intake and physical activity, experts explained.
– There are only three clear contraindications to taking it, although it is indicated for diabetes and overweight: being pregnant, having suffered pancreatitis or having a family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma. This is a rare tumour that is not related to the more common thyroid cancer.

– Friday will begin with the traditional dinner for the seniors, coordinated with AVOI, followed by the contest of Mises and Kings of the Fair: both children, adults and the seniors. It will conclude with a performance by Marisol Bizcocho
– Saturday will begin the day with performances by local dance groups and choirs, accompanied by the popular ‘sardinada’ performed by local ‘espeteros’. In the evening, the entertainment will begin with performances by Leo Dj and Mike FDZ. The main performance will come at 00.00 hours with La Cebolla and Negro Jari, and will conclude with Sau Dj at 02.00 hours.
– Sunday we will again have performances by local dance groups and a popular paella organised by Asociación Sin Edades. To finish in the evening we will have the performance of the dance academy Antonio and Elsa Guerra.

Farmers fear the plague of locusts, grasshoppers and crickets detected in Malaga province:
– A plague of locusts, grasshoppers and crickets are causing havoc in three municipalities in Malaga province, agriculturalists have warned.
– Asaja Malaga, the province’s agricultural association of young farmers, raised the alarm on Monday 17 June that large infestations of the insects are located in Coín, Alozaina and Casarabonela. This new infestation has already spread over an area of just over 400 hectares, “affecting both agricultural and natural areas in the region”, they warned.
– The Junta recommends that in areas where there are, for example, a significant locust population, no work should be carried out on fruit trees that involves wounding them as locusts are attracted by the smell of sap.

Young man dies after falling from cliff on popular Nerja beach:
– A young Turkish man of 27 years and student of the Malaga University (UMA) died on Wednesday evening after falling from a cliff in Nerja, according to 112 Andalucía.
– At 7:15pm, the 112 emergency service telephone operators received a call alerting them to a young man falling from a cliff on the Carabeo beach and requesting urgent medical assistance because he had suffered a severe blow to the head.
