Fiesta de la Quema 2025 (Burning Festival) in Algarrobo: 19-21 Sept
This Festival of the Burning of Algarrobo commemorates a historical event: the rebellion of the inhabitants against Napoleon’s troops. “There will be historical recreations that will be interspersed with other types of cultural and recreational activities, such as the poetic historical tour that will introduce illustrious characters of the municipality and will visit places of interest such as the church, the hermitages, the Phoenician tombs or the coastal landscapes”. This route, which is one of the novelties of this year, is scheduled to be held on Saturday at 10:00 am, after which a conference and a historical exhibition will be held and the competition of riders and horsewomen, which will take place on the river. Also on the river, in the afternoon, there will be a dance show with horses. The finale of this day will be the performance of the Triana band at 11:00 p.m. in the Parque de lah Escalerilla. Meanwhile, on Sunday, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a tasting of carob cakes and subtropical fruits, and during the three days a tapas route will be held and you can visit the gastronomic market with products from the province. The Socialists get one right- The Andalusian PSOE demands a commission of inquiry in Parliament on health waiting lists: “It is a lie that the waiting lists go down”: {Translation, summary}
– María Márquez, socialist spokesperson, criticizes “the operation promoted by the president of the regional government’s marketing, propaganda, and lies team.”
– The Socialist Group in Andalusia has announced it will demand a commission of investigation into the management of healthcare waiting lists, accusing president Juanma Moreno and his PP-A Government of deceiving the public with manipulated figures. Spokeswoman María Márquez said the Government claims that waiting lists have fallen, when in fact specialist consultations have increased by 3,502 patients in the past year, with more than 10,000 now outside guaranteed deadlines. She explained that surgical waiting lists only appear shorter because many patients are stuck waiting for a specialist appointment and never make it onto the surgery list at all.
– The PSOE denounced this as a deliberate “trick” and a serious breach of trust, pointing out that oncology waiting lists have grown by 48 per cent, with those waiting beyond two months rising by 110 per cent. Márquez accused Moreno of covering up privatisation policies that are worsening care and putting lives at risk. She argued that public money is being diverted into private healthcare and pharmaceuticals under false pretences, serving political allies while ordinary Andalusians suffer. Windows 11’s September update is borked, won’t install for some users:
– Last week, Microsoft released an important Windows 11 patch known as update KB5065426. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for error reports to start pouring in from users who have been running into all kinds of error codes during installation of the update. With it being a mandatory update, the Windows Update system will periodically keep trying to install the update even if users have declined. According to Windows Latest, the only workaround for this issue right now is to use the Media Creation Tool or Update Assistant Tool {…to do a full reinstall with the latest Win 11, including this buggy update}.
– Windows Latest has compiled a list of the various error codes that can crop up during installation of the September update, including 0x800F0991, 0x800F0922, 0x80071A2D, 0x800F081F, 0x80070302, 0x80070306, and 0x8000FFFF.
– In addition, some users are saying the update takes a lot longer to download than these monthly updates usually take, although that could just be due to the fact that this particular update is larger. World’s oldest mummies were smoke-dried 10,000 years ago in China and Southeast Asia, researchers find:
– The world’s oldest known human mummies were created by smoke-drying corpses 10,000 years ago in Southeast Asia and China, long before mummification became commonplace in Chile and Egypt, new research shows. A study of dozens of ancient graves found in China, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia revealed that many skeletons that were found in a tight fetal position were treated by an extended period of smoke-drying over fire before being buried.
– Many of the skeletons revealed evidence of low-intensity heating and discoloration from soot, rather than evidence of direct combustion such as a cremation. This suggests that a specialized mortuary practice involving the smoking of a corpse was likely practiced widely in pre-farming communities across southern China and Southeast Asia, the researchers wrote.
– Smoke-dried mummies are still being made today in parts of Southeast Asia, according to the researchers. They travelled to Papua, a province of Indonesia, in 2019 and observed the Dani and Pumo people creating mummies of their deceased ancestors by tightly binding the corpses, setting them over a fire, and smoking them until they turned entirely black. Drawing on these examples, the researchers concluded that ancient individuals were tightly bound after death and smoked for long periods over low-temperature fires. New Jersey is 14th state to legalize human composting as eco-friendly burial alternative:
– The Garden State approved a bill that legalizes human composting, an alternative to traditional burials in which a corpse is transformed into nutrient-rich soil that loved ones can use to feed their favourite houseplant or scatter like ashes. Human composting, more formally known as natural organic reduction, has skyrocketed in popularity after the COVID-19 pandemic left more than a million Americans dead.
– New Jersey is the 14th state to have legalized the practice over the last six years. The human composting process, though, isn’t nearly as speedy as commonly accepted methods like cremation. The entire ordeal takes a staggering 45 days as the “body is gently transformed into nutrient-rich soil,” according to Earth Funeral’s website. Earth Funeral has been at the heart of human composting since Washington, where the company is based, became the first state to legalize the practice in 2019.
– Human composting doesn’t vary much from regular composting. The person’s corpse is placed in a “vessel” with organic materials like straw and alfalfa before being sealed inside and attached to an HVAC system. From there, it’s left to decompose. Exactly how long the body is allowed to break down in the cradle varies from state to state. While human composting may be legally allowed in some places such as Washington & Colorado, Spain has not yet implemented legislation to explicitly permit or regulate this practice. {The practice itself is not explicitly addressed in Spanish law, so technically, it could be seen as illegal under current regulations, which primarily focus on traditional burial and cremation. As with many things in Spain, if it ain’t regulated, it’s probably illegal. -Ed.}
– With one processor, Earth Funeral, the deceased’s loved ones are in control even from across the country and can decide how much soil they’d like returned to them, ranging from a smidgeon to scatter similarly to cremated ashes, or enough to comfortably house a potted plant.

The day will begin at 12:00 p.m. with a Inaugural Parade from the library car park to the Villa de Casarabonela, which will officially open its doors half an hour later. Among the planned activities are Vintage Games, exhibitions of falconry with birds of prey, a free bean stew tasting, guided tours of emblematic places, family workshops and children’s activities such as the “Treasure Hunt 1560”. There will also be shows of contemporary and aerial dance with fire and lectures on local history. At 9:00 p.m. the Historical Reenactment “La Duda”, inspired by the events that occurred in the mid-sixteenth century.

Multidrug-Resistant Fungus Spreading Rapidly In Europe, with the most in Spain:
– Candidozyma auris (formerly Candida auris) poses a risk for patients in healthcare facilities across Europe due to its ability to cause severe infections in critically ill patients, its potential resistance to several antifungal agents, which makes infections difficult to treat, and its propensity for transmission and outbreaks in healthcare settings. The C. auris survey 2024 shows that spread of C. auris continues to occur at a rapid pace.

– Vox is rapidly expanding its support in Andalusia, driven above all by younger voters who feel disconnected from traditional politics after watching the failure of socialist policies. Authorities blame Newcastle Disease, not avian flu, for recent birds deaths: {Translation}
– The Andalusian Wildlife Analysis and Diagnosis Centre has confirmed that the death of the specimens collected in Malaga’s Huelin Park was caused by the Newcastle disease virus, thus ruling out a possible outbreak of avian flu in this area.
– The Regional Ministry of Sustainability and Environment has provided SUR with the results of the analyses carried out on these specimens at the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Algete, determining that this is a common mild disease, which has already affected other urban parks in Andalusia.
– In previous years, the Newcastle disease virus has affected wild birds throughout Andalusia, although in most cases it has affected Eurasian collared doves. On this occasion, four specimens were analysed, specifically two yellow-legged gulls, a Eurasian collared dove, and a mallard. This disease is a highly contagious infection caused by a virus of the Paramyxoviridae family and can affect all birds, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. Not surprisingly, as it is a disease that is naturally endemic in wild birds, it can affect domestic birds anywhere in the world, which is why most countries have decided to implement a vaccination policy for them.
– The Regional Ministry of Sustainability and Environment assures that the risk to humans from handling a dead bird with this disease is minimal. For example, it can cause keratoconjunctivitis if a person rubs their eyes after touching the bird. Therefore, the public is advised not to touch any dead or dying birds they find.

An accident in Riogordo claims the life of Iván, a 41-year-old motorcyclist and resident of Los Romanes: {Translation}

Golf News- John Daly suffers epic meltdown for worst hole of his career with embarrassing score:
– John Daly really outdid himself this time – no, he really did.
The former major winner bested his personal record for worst score on a single hole while competing in the first round of the Sanford International at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
– It took the 59-year-old Daly 19 strokes to finish the par-5 12th hole on the Champions Tour after already being four-over par for the round on Friday. The 12th is not an easy hole, as the players must clear a significantly long creek running along the fairway. But it was not just the water that did Daly. After sending his tee shot into the rough, the former PGA and British Open champion hit his ball out of bounds and astounding seven times in a row. That included shots into the water and surrounding woods.
– Even more amazingly, he needed just one putt to close out the hole after finally putting his ball on the green. He finished 18-over for the round and 24 strokes off the lead heading into Day 2. Angel Cabrera leads the tournament at 6-under.
– The meltdown bested Daly’s previous single-hole high score of 18 strokes on the sixth hole at the 1998 Bay Hill Invitational in 1998.
– Scores like this are nothing new to Daly. He needed 14 strokes to complete the 18th hole at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and 13 for the fourth hole at the 2011 John Deer Classic at TPC Dear Run in 2011.
– His 19 strokes, however, would not come close to breaking the PGA Tour’s futility mark. – The attempt by the corrupt Sánchez administration to divert attention from serious corruption scandals through a continuous anti-Israeli and antisemitic offensive is transparent.
– The obsessive activism of the present Spanish Government against Israel stands out against the background of its ties with dark, tyrannical regimes – from the ayatollahs’ regime in Iran to the Maduro Government in Venezuela.
– Equally striking is the lack of historical awareness of Spain’s crimes against the Jewish people, including the crimes of the Inquisition, the forced conversions of religion, and the Expulsion of the Jews – the complete ethnic cleansing of Spain of Jews at the end of the fifteenth century.
– It should be remembered that Spain was the last of the Western European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel. The present Government of Spain is deliberately and crudely damaging these relations, which were built up steadily over decades under both Socialist and Conservative governments.
– Not every criticism of Israeli policy constitutes antisemitism. However, when it is marked by demonisation, delegitimization and double standards, it is antisemitism, according to the IHRA definition. The statements of members of the Spanish Government are tainted by all of these. So is its policy. This is antisemitism. Therefore, I have decided to raise the issue of the open antisemitism of members of the present Spanish Government before the plenary meeting of the IHRA. The Government of Israel, as the state of the Jewish people, has the duty to stand and warn against institutional antisemitism and to present it as it is, without disguise or embellishment.
– Furthermore, it is no longer possible to avoid imposing personal sanctions against members of the Spanish Government who have crossed every red line. Therefore, I have decided, together with Acting Minister of the Interior Yariv Levin and with the approval of the Prime Minister, that we shall impose personal sanctions as detailed below.
– The Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz – her entry into Israel will be prohibited and Israel will not maintain any contact with her.
Already in October 2023, days after the massacre, Díaz accused Israel of committing war crimes.
In May 2024 – the day after Spanish recognition of a “Palestinian State” – she declared that this was “only the first step until Palestine is freed from the river to the sea,” a call which means the destruction of the State of Israel and which is banned in European countries such as Germany.
In October 2024, after the beginning of the ground manoeuvre in Lebanon (and after Israel had been attacked for a year from its territory), she called for international sanctions against Israel.
In December 2024 she called for a boycott of Israeli products and testified that she refrains from purchasing Israeli goods herself.
In April 2025 she called Israel a “genocide state” and demanded an arms embargo against it.
In July 2025 she called for a complete severing of relations.
It is clear that Díaz, leader of the extremist Sumar party, is exploiting Prime Minister Sánchez’s political weakness and is dragging him, step by step, into implementing her anti-Israeli and antisemitic vision.
– Similar sanctions will also be imposed against Sira Rego, Minister for Youth and Children, from the same party. Her entry into Israel will be prohibited and Israel will not maintain any contact with her.
On 7 October 2023 (!) Rego published a post justifying the massacre.
In April 2025 she called Israel “the genocide state,” opposed security trade with it and said that not even one euro should reach Israel.
In May 2025 she called for a complete severing of relations and for sanctions “against the genocide regime.” She urged the European Union to break off all relations with Israel and to impose sanctions at every level.
Last week she supported the violent demonstrations against the Israeli team in the international cycling competition “La Vuelta.”
Her declarations therefore clearly show support for terrorism and violence against Israelis.
– Accordingly, the entry of the above-mentioned ministers into Israel is prohibited and Israel will not maintain any contact with them.
– In addition, Israel will inform its allies of the hostile conduct of the Spanish Government and of the antisemitic and violent dimension in the statements of its ministers. It is important that Israel’s friends throughout the world can recognise the dangerous nature of the present Spanish administration.
