Judge Peinado extends the Begoña Gómez case for another half year: {Translation}

A definitive study on medical cannabis, here’s what it says: {Translation, summary}
– Research into medicinal cannabis has grown significantly since its analgesic properties were discovered. In 2016, advocacy groups pressured the Australian government to allow patients who did not respond to conventional treatments to access medicinal cannabis with a doctor’s prescription.

– The quest initiative, a prospective multicentre study, recruited adult patients with chronic illnesses prescribed medicinal cannabis oil between November 2020 and December 2021. Researchers collected 12-month follow-up data to assess if improvements at three months would be sustained. Of the 2,744 participants, 2,353 completed at least one follow-up questionnaire.
– Short-term Improvements in General Quality of Life. Participants with doctor-diagnosed conditions reported improvements in fatigue, pain, and sleep. Those with anxiety, depression, insomnia, or chronic pain showed improvements in disease-specific symptoms over 12 months. Patients treated for generalized anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, and ptsd also showed hrqol improvements.
– The results suggest that prescribing medicinal cannabis may provide pain relief, while also combating fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and depression, thus improving the hrqol. Improvements were perceived quickly and maintained long-term.
– “This is promising news for patients who do not respond to conventional medications,” the authors conclude. While more research is needed, the current findings support the potential benefits of medicinal cannabis for chronic conditions. Missing person alert, plus two injured hikers rescued after getting lost on a mountain in Nerja: {Translation}

The PP presses Sánchez to present budgets with motions in Congress and the Senate: {Translation}
– The PP is going to go a step further. After months of criticizing the lack of General State Budgets, it has taken advantage of the 27th Interparliamentary that is being held this weekend in Seville to announce that it will present initiatives in Congress and the Senate pressuring Pedro Sánchez to present a draft budget. This was announced by the spokespersons in both chambers during the table they shared with Dolors Montserrat this Saturday afternoon.
– Alicia García {pic}, spokeswoman in the Senate, has said that Pedro Sánchez and María Jesús Montero are “in constitutional rebellion” so she is going to promote a motion in the Senate to force him to present the General State Budgets. A motion that will prosper considering that the PP has a majority in the Upper House. It is not time for presidents who hesitate,” said the popular spokeswoman.

– Instability will remain at least until next Saturday. Aemet warns that the Atlantic squalls arrive again, especially the second half of the week in Andalusia. The atmospheric situation could change from Tuesday, although rainfall will be more intense on Thursday and Friday.
– The probability that Malaga will again receive rain will increase to 95% on those two days and will reach 100% in areas of the western part as Marbella. Armed Robberies At Open Public Businesses In Malaga Becoming More Common: {Translation}
– Second robbery at gunpoint on the same street in Puerto de la Torre {pic} in just ten days. First it was in a post office and, now, in a dental clinic, when an individual dressed in black and with his face practically covered burst into the establishment demanding the takings.
– It was already past eight o’clock in the evening two Fridays ago when the emergency services received a warning of an alleged robbery in a dental clinic on Lope de Rueda Street. A patrol of local agents who were in the area went to the scene. According to what the police could find out, a hooded individual dressed in black had allegedly burst into the premises and had threatened one of the workers at gunpoint to get her to give him the money from the cash register, which was around 700 euros. The suspect then allegedly fled the clinic on foot. Although the local agents alerted the other units and conducted raids, it was not possible to locate him, municipal sources have informed SUR.
– Ten days earlier, a man with a balaclava allegedly also broke into a post office located on the same street and pointed a gun at a branch worker. According to the sources, the robber would have taken advantage of a moment when there were no customers inside to break into the branch, where two professionals were. Trump loses patience with Putin and threatens new Russian oil tariffs- with serious implications for the EU:
– President Donald Trump has lost patience and is now threatening to punish Russia with new oil tariffs. Aside from the relentless attacks, including with suicide drones, Trump has criticized that, in the midst of a three-way negotiation, Putin has proposed a change of government in Ukraine to facilitate the annexation of occupied territories. Trump said Sunday in an interview with NBC, “If I feel – if we’re in the middle of a negotiation – you could say I was very angry, very upset, when Putin said yesterday that… you know, when he started questioning Zelenski’s credibility, because that’s not going in the right direction.”

The Board keeps the private desalination project in the Axarquía alive: {Translation}
– Despite the fact that months ago the Minister of Water of the Junta de Andalucía, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, assured that there is only the project of a public desalination plant in the Axarquia, the Official Gazette of the public administration (BOJA) published last March 18 an announcement of the agreement of March 11, 2025, of the Territorial Delegation of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy in Malaga, by which the project of the company Magtel on the development of a private desalination plant in the Axarquia, specifically in the municipality of Velez-Malaga, is submitted to public information.

Two desalination plants means an impossible competition to maintain, taking into account that the price per cubic meter is already higher than the water received from the reservoir of La Viñuela”. “On the other hand, assuming that they are compatible, this would mean an oversupply of water, which he claims would cause an unsustainable increase in the irrigated area, which could even reach the dry lands of the Colmenar-Periana Corridor”, as highlighted by the biologist.
– Also, the situation has changed since this company began the proceedings a couple of years ago, because in this time, “the Ministry of Transition has declared in the delta of the Velez River the qualification of ‘serious regression’, which according to Article 29 of the Regulations of the Coastal Act, involves the prohibition of building all types of buildings and structures in this place, where at least have to go pipes and a cantara,a work of some scale that, to top it all is trying to build on land classified as undeveloped land protected by flood risk. The country has a Mining Law from 1973 which, from the expert’s point of view, is a good regulation at a technical level, but it has become obsolete in everything that has to do with administrative aspects (hence it takes up to ten years to start up a mine). – At the moment, the Ministry for Ecological Transition is finalizing a list of critical minerals and rare earths that will be a priority to search for in active or abandoned mining areas. – An Israeli airstrike on Sunday night hit the largest hospital in southern Gaza, killing five people, including a top Hamas political leader. – {This is a prime example of how slow the courts are to process the huge backlog of malpractice claims against the SAS. Ed.} The Andalusian Health Service must pay 107,366 euros for the death of the woman. It occurred at The Axarquía Regional Hospital between September 12 and 20, 2014 when the resident physician prescribed an enema to the woman despite her having a colostomy bag. The procedure was done by a nurse and an assistant without recognizing that the patient already had a persistent biliary fistula drainage in the orifice, making it incompatible with an enema procedure, within hours leading to severe sepsis and death.
– Although the fundamental cause of the patient’s death was the pancreatic cancer from which the woman was suffering, the immediate cause was determined to be the improper placement of the enema due to the biliary fistula, which led to her immediate death.

Competea and Periana host the ‘La Liebre de Marzo’ festival:
– The festival ‘La Liebre de Marzo’ (The March Hare) returns to bring sacred and ancient music to emblematic places of the Axarquia. The eleventh edition of the festival will be held on Saturdays, 22 and 29 March with the Malaga Baroque Orchestra, the Con Fuoco Quartet, the Spinto Quartet and the Maestro Iribarren Music Chapel.
– All concerts will start at 12.30 p.m. and will be free admission until full capacity is reached.
– Cómpeta: 22 March. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Cómpeta will host the concert of Cuartero Spinto, formed by violinists Juan Jesús Navarro and Caridad Martos, violist Olga López and cellist Cristóbal Prieto.
– Periana: 29 March. The series will end on March 29 at the Church of San Isidro Labrador in Periana with the Capilla de Música Maestro Iribarren, a group named after Juan Francés de Iribarren, who was Chapel Master of the Cathedral of Malaga from 1733 until his death.
