Christmas Market La Tabla Torrox Park: The count down to Christmas begins this Saturday 10th November from 11am at La Tabla Commerial Centre Torrox Park. New, artisan and secondhand stalls, Christmas gifts,decorations, cards,cakes, chocolates, and even the odd pickled onion! Chutneys and jams. The list goes on. Raffle in aid of local charity The sisters of the Samaritians of Nerja.
La Tabla is above La Roima Resturant and the Supermarket. The Christmas Market will be on come rain or shine.
The Wednesday Market is also on every Wednesday up to Christmas from 10am to 1pm at La Tabla

Book signing by local author: Local author John Hardy will be selling signed copies of his books at the Christmas Market at La Tabla, Torrox Park from 11 am on Saturday 10th November. All the books will be available including:
‘Malaga Mysteries’ – short stories of crime and mystery set in this part of Spain.
‘East Side Stories’ – set in the UK from Hadrian’s Wall to the Thames.
‘Sedella – the Story of a Spanish Village’ – a history of a village from prehistoric times to the present day, a mixture of historical facts and stories to illustrate them.
‘The Queen’s Agent’- a novel set at the time of Elizabeth I during the build up of the Spanish Armada, set in London and Santiago de Compostela.

Dog Attack: I want to warn people walking their dogs around the Penoncillo apartments Torrox Costa at night. Last night 6/11/2018 at 21.15 hours my wife was walking our dog and she (the dog ) was attacked by another dog that came out of nowhere, she got 3 puncture wounds that bled. My wife was pulled over by our dog trying to escape the attack,various people helped my wife and dog,one person actually said to my wife that she knew the dog and don’t walk near where it lives. This is just a warning to dog walkers. We are going to vets and asking them to inform Police and try and get this owner to take responsibility of their dog. Thank you Ian Walker .

Recommendation: Wayne’s Drains. Just wanted to say how pleased we were with Wayne’s Drains who came to our aid and swiftly sorted us out when we had an emergency drain problem (roots were found completely blocking the pipe!). They located and accessed the drain under the bathroom floor and installed a new inspection cover. They did a professional job, leaving it clean and tidy afterwards.

-Tuesday November 13th & 27th – Photography Group. From “Good Shot” to “Great Shot”, come and learn the art of photography with Rob Bell Photography. Car Valet: I would also like to recommend Warren James who valeted our extremely hairy car, before the arrival of 2 friends, one of whom has pet allergies. He definitely went the extra mile, shampooing the upholstery 3 times and taking an extra hour to do so, for no extra charge. Our friends have now been and gone. Three days of being ferried around including from Malaga to Competa and back, without a single sneeze or watery eye. A job really well done, Warren! There are lots of useful tips about Spanish rules and regulations, but lately, an article about obtaining an ECO sticker to show your car will comply with emission rules when driving into large cities. If you do not have the sticker, you may have to pay an entry fee.

Warren Phillips, Car valeting/cleaning: Warren came highly recommended on Dígame but he is even more brilliant than we expected. Warren’s attention to detail is remarkable. He said that he would restore the car to showroom condition and he returned a “new” six-year old car to us, even having managed to remove the ‘dinks’ from the bonnet caused by a hailstorm. DoctorLaptop’s November Special: New Computer Setups €30 (25% off). Setting up a brand new Windows 10 computer can be challenging if you’ve never done it before. Dozens of choices to be made using terms you may not know, or asking about functions you didn’t even know exist. Right away Cortana, the digital virtual assistant, starts asking you questions and expects you to talk to her! Unless you know what you’re doing it may be better to let me setup and optimize your new computer, in your language, with the keyboard your prefer, and with the programs you need. It is best if you bring it to me without ever starting it. Once started up the 1st time the setup process begins and it MUST be completed, interrupting the initial setup risks damaging the system, possibly requiring a complete reinstall of Windows. There are some choices made in the setup that are difficult to change after the setup is finished. Not to mention that most new comps require a ton of Windows Updates, and we all know how dodgy installing large batches of Windows 10 updates can be! Save yourself the frustration and patience draining hassle, leave it to me.

The Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History group will not be meeting on the 6th at our usual meeting place in the El Parquesol restaurant, instead we are going on a coach trip to the Medina Azahara which lies just outside of Cordoba. The Medina was built by Abd-ar-Rahman III c912-961, the first Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba. The city includes ceremonial reception halls, mosque, administrative and government offices, gardens and workshops as well as baths.
In December we will be meeting on the 4th and Keith (Rockall) will give his final talk on the Romans and I will give an overview of my talk on Federica Garthia Lorca. I will go into more detail at a later date. This is with a view to organising a coach trip to where Lorca was born; where he grew up and where he was shot as well as where he was supposed to be buried although recent excavations of the site have not revealed any trace of Lorca. If there is time we will also visit the Federico Garvia Lorca Park, situated in the municipality of Alfacar where it is believed he was assassinated in 1936.

Editor Suggests: Computer Artificial Intellegence (AI) Lie Detectors Coming to EU Travel Hubs! A number of border control checkpoints in the European Union are about to get increasingly—and unsettlingly—futuristic. In Hungary, Latvia, and Greece, travelers will be given an automated lie-detection test—by an animated AI border agent. The virtual border control agent will ask travelers questions after they’ve passed through the checkpoint. Questions include, “What’s in your suitcase?” and “If you open the suitcase and show me what is inside, will it confirm that your answers were true?” according to New Scientist. The system reportedly records travelers’ faces using AI to analyze 38 micro-gestures, scoring each response. The virtual agent is reportedly customized according to the traveler’s gender, ethnicity, and language. For travelers who pass the test, they will receive a QR code that lets them through the border. If they fail the virtual agent will reportedly get more serious, and if the AI remains suspicious the traveler will be handed off to a human agent. Bad News For iPhone and SmartWatch Fans:
-Hacked! It’s only been a day since Apple released iOS 12.1 and an iPhone enthusiast in Spain has managed to find a passcode bypass hack, once again, that could allow anyone to see all contacts’ private information on a locked iPhone. So simple it’s scary considering how Apple claims to be very secure! Selling easily hacked €1000 mobiles won’t impress the shareholders. -Bricked! Apple has pulled an update for its smartwatches after many owners complained the software had caused their devices to stop working. Since Apple Repair has no fix for the smartwatches yet these are probably being replaced, not repaired.

Cakes and light refreshments always available, and on Sunday 4th November we will be lighting our wood fired oven and serving fresh cooked pizzas and roasted chestnuts to garden visitors. Torrox Pueblo Pool: There are many who have been affected by the closure of the Nerja pool. It would appear that most people have found the pool in Torrox Pueblo to be as good if not better than Nerja. It can be found easily by going up to the Pueblo from the BP Station, turn right to the football stadium, continue through the car park and turn right. The swimming pool is on the lower level.
