OLIVER! Is coming to The Salon Varietes Theater!:
Often billed as ‘Britain’s favourite musical’, the story of Oliver Twist as he encounters the Artful Dodger, Fagin, Nancy and Bill Sikes has enthralled family audiences for decades.
From 9th to 20th of October ( no performance on Monday 14th) popular director Catrina Helsby brings this touching story to life.
Including classic songs such as ‘As Long As He Needs Me’, ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘Where Is Love?’ and ‘You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two’, this production has it all!

The 7th Cómpeta Walking Festival: 26-29 September 2019 is the occasion to discover more of this beautiful walking area and to meet old and new walking friends.
We will walk with guides in groups of no more than 25 persons. Each day you will have the choice between an easy walk of ± 3-4 hours and an intermediate walk of ± 6-7 hours.

Interpreter: Well…..holidays over. The doctors are back from theirs and the hospitals are in full swing again. You will be receiving those appointments you’ve been waiting for. You will need an interpreter. Most doctors speak a little English, but they prefer to have an interpreter there to avoid any misunderstandings. I can help. Fifteen years as a volunteer in the the hospital and ten working privately . I know the system, and can help with paperwork, appointments, in the hospital and with your family doctor.

9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.

Dog Obedience Classes start date postponed due to summer heat: Important notice:
With the summer heat continuing throughout all of September, we are being forced to postpone Obedience Training and Agility Classes until Sunday the 6th October 2019. The September heat forecasts remaining fixed in the circa 28c to 30c bracket, too hot to train dogs safely. Sorry.

No-deal Brexit: British pensions to be uprated until 2022 if UK crashes out of EU.
The British government announced on Tuesday that state pensions for pensioners living in the EU will be uprated each year until 2022 if the UK crashes out of the EU on October 31st without a deal.
Previously the government had announced that pensions would be uprated just for 2019/2020 if there is no deal, but with a no-deal Brexit having grown increasingly likely in recent weeks, the government has extended the guarantee for each year until 2022.
That means pensions will be uprated until the end of the 2022 tax year which is in March 2023.
Uprating essentially means an increase in the value of a state pension based on the ‘triple lock’ mechanism, and guarantees that the basic state pension will rise by a minimum of either 2.5 percent, the rate of inflation or average earnings growth, whichever is largest.
While pensions have been uprated for British pensioners living in the EU they are not for others living in certain countries like Canada or Australia.
The new three-year, no-deal guarantee is to give the UK government the time to negotiate either EU-wide or bilateral agreements with member states in order for uprating to be continued.
There are nearly half a million British pensioners living throughout the EU. The government says pensioners will soon receive text messages alerting them to the new guarantee.
Work and pensions secretary Amber Rudd, once a vocal critic of a no-deal Brexit said: “We will be fully ready for Brexit and are leaving in a way that protects the interests of citizens here and in EU member states”.

New works set for Torrox: The areas of El Penoncillo and Calaceite have been given the go ahead for some of the most important transformation works in their history in a new announcement by the Ayuntamiento of Torrox.
A budget of around €300,000 has been invested into the plan which is at the tender stages for a complete transformation of the infrastructure of the two areas by the Torrox Council.
The first phase of the project is to improve the lighting facilities throughout Torrox to meet with current standards. The new lighting will also be installed along a large stretch of the N-340 that runs through the area. Alongside this, a new roundabout will be constructed in Calaceite to help with traffic management.
This latest undertaking by the Torrox government is coinciding with the major refurbishment works of the Lithoral Path that’s runs through to Nerja, with an estimated total budget of €2 million, is set to transform a long forgotten area of the Axarquia coastline. https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2019/09/04/new-works-set-for-torrox/

John Illsley of Dire Straits: Wednesday 9th October at Paris 15, Calle la Orotava, Malága. As one of the founding band members, with guitarist brothers Mark and David Knopfler, and drummer Pick Withers, Illsley played a role in the development of Dire Straits’ sound. By the time the group disbanded in 1995 changes in personnel meant that Illsley and lead singer Mark Knopfler were the only two original band members remaining. Illsley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Dire Straits in 2018.
Illsley has produced two albums of his own, with Mark Knopfler as a guest musician, and has helped with Mark’s personal projects and charities.
John will be appearing with his own band with guitarist Robbie McIntosh (The Pretenders, Paul McCartney John Mayer), he will be playing Dire Straits classics as well as songs from his latest solo album, ‘Long shadows’. Info&Tix

Pets

5 kittens born about April time, need homes: They are living wild with their mother in and around a garden in a residential home for old and ill people in Velez Malaga . The owners don’t want them and I’m concerned for their future. The mother has now been spayed and I plan to catch the kittens very soon to be castrated/ spayed etc . I don’t want to have to put them back after.
There are 3 identical tabby’s ( 2 are definitely boys) and 2 identical black cats. I have been feeding them for months now so they look healthy. I can’t take them because I have dogs.

9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of July, August, September.

Listeria Outbreak Update: On Wednesday regional Health minister Jesús Aguirre said that some 5,800 kilos of processed meat thought to be contaminated with the bacteria had been recalled by the authorities in Andalucía. Now the brand’s chorizo and blood sausage have joined the list of pork products that have been taken off the shelves. Of more than 200 cases, by Wednesday 77 people were still in hospital including 28 pregnant women. Four people were in intensive care. Spanish health officials extended their listeriosis warning on Thursday, recalling all the meat products made by the firm Magrudis, under the brand La Mechá.
