So please now consider the value you have received this passing year and show your support with a donation. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained! The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

***December 4th is the Day of the Andalusian Flag***
It will not be a public holiday nor replace Andalucía Day on 28 February, but Junta president Juanma Moreno last year said the date is an important one for the region and is now commemorated on this day. He also said at that time that 4 December had been chosen because it was “an important date for our region” as “thousands of people called for full autonomy for Andalucía” on that date in 1977. ANDALUCÍA

Junta President Moreno: “I believe that Mr. Sánchez is out of his mind…Sánchez, 46 years later, is once again taking Andalusia to a territorial inequality”: {Translation}
– The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno Bonilla, has regretted that, “46 years later”, the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with “his pacts with Puigdemont”, “has once again led us Andalusians to a territorial grievance and, therefore, to the rupture of a fundamental principle, which is equality between Spaniards”.
– This is what Moreno said in statements to the media before the start of the demonstration called this Sunday, on the eve of the commemoration of 4D, by the Economy and Society Forum under the slogan ‘I defend Andalusia’, where the Andalusian president has stressed that “46 years ago the Andalusians asked for something that was very sensible, that the Spanish had the same rights and the same obligations”, but “when we thought that this stage had been overcome, Sánchez puts it back on the table,” he added.
– Moreno also stressed that “what is happening in our country not only aggravates the situation of institutional quality in Spain, not only breaks the division of powers, not only violates rights that are fundamental to our democracy, but is also generating in a very decisive way a difference and inequality between territories and, therefore, between Spaniards”. For this reason, he continued, “from Andalusia and myself as president, I will always defend the equality of Spaniards and, of course, the equality of Andalusians with any other citizen of our country”. “Whether Mr Sánchez likes it or not, we are going to be on the streets defending something that we believe in, something that is important for the future and present of our country and something that is the essence of our democratic system, such as the principle of equality between Spaniards”, he added.
– When asked by the media about the secrecy of the negotiations with Junts, Moreno described it as “nonsense”, and said that “what is being negotiated between a political force, certainly a Catalan minority, and the Socialist Party, are decisions that are going to bind Spaniards, and this is being done without anyone, absolutely no one, knowing what is being negotiated”, he said.
– In short, “I believe that Mr Sánchez is out of his mind, at a point of cessationism that leads him to make decisions that have nothing to do with a consolidated democracy, a democracy such as the Spanish one. And I believe that what we must demand is to know and know in detail what is being negotiated”, the president of the Junta concluded. MALAGA PROVINCE

November 2023 was one of the 4 driest in Malaga province since 1942 , third November in a row with less than 10% of the average: {DigameXtra}
– Last month was just the fourth November since records began in 1942 which did not register any rain at Malaga Airport. This only happened three other years since 1942: in 1948, 1950 and 1981. To be accurate, on Thursday, 30 November, 2023, some rain did occur, but only registered at high altitudes in Malaga province.
– November is historically the second wettest month of the year with an average of 100mm per square metre. However, Malaga only received 5.6mm in November of 2021 and 9.4mm of 2022. Ref: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/last-month-one-the-driest-novembers-history-20231201154502-nt.html

SALOBREÑA

An area of sugarcane fields near the beach in Salobreña burns: {Translation, summary}
– Motril firefighters have been working since Friday afternoon to extinguish a fire in an area of reed beds near the Punta del Río beach in Salobreña, next to the Guadalfeo river, which is the border between this municipality and Motril. The area is located in the middle of the Vega de Salobreña and is very exposed to the weather and, therefore, to the storm that has left strong gusts of wind in the province.
– The effects of the winds have complicated the work to extinguish the fire, which is why the flames continued to spread after midnight on Friday and into Saturday. As of this writing on Saturday afternoon, the fire continues. Source, Spanish: https://www.granadadigital.es/incendio-zona-canaveral-proxima-playa-salobrena/

GRANADA

Scammers use fake voice clip to con woman into handing over jewellery, believing daughter was in prison in Granada:
– The scammers pretended to be police officers to trick the victim into giving them thousands of euros’ worth of diamond rings and a Rolex watch as bail so her daughter could avoid prison. A man, who pretended to be a police officer, said that her daughter Sabrina had been arrested for running a red light and hitting a pregnant woman. Pepi appeared to hear Sabrina’s voice on the other end of the phone, who said: “I killed her, I killed her. I killed a woman, I’m going to jail.”
– “I heard my daughter, it was her voice, I was convinced it was her. I would have given them everything they had asked for.” She explained to the fake police officer that she had no money, to which she was then asked if she had any jewellery that could be used instead.
– Despite being robbed of her jewellery two years ago by crooks who posed as workers from an electricity company, she still had three diamond rings and a Rolex worth 12,000 euros given to her by her late husband.
– The caller claimed he knew about the previous theft and told Pepi that he was going to send the secretary of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to pick up the envelope with the jewellery. Shortly afterwards, a slim woman with long black hair and “South American features” appeared at her door. Pepi asked her about her daughter, but the woman was tight-lipped about any details. The woman then left with the envelope.
– Pepi then phoned Sabrina and asked her how she was doing: “Fine, fine, what’s wrong?” her daughter replied, who was calmly at work in Malaga city. “I’ve been robbed again!” Pepi reacted once she realised she had been scammed. MURCIA

The Murcian yoga sect that went crazy with mercury: {Translation, summary}
– The good vibes at the Mahasandhi yoga centre have vanished since the police broke down the door a fortnight ago and all the calm that came from Varanasi evaporated like patchouli. Until a few days ago, 50 year old José Manuel Cánovas, a lama born in Murcia, who is now under arrest on five charges including conspiracy and drug trafficking, walked around this 100,000 square metre estate wearing a robe. The gurus who have remained in charge of the centre do not like to see journalists outside their door.
– For 15 years, Cánovas ran a meditation centre that attracted people from all over the world, mainly from Spain, who came to meditate, sing in groups or participate in collective ceremonies in honour of Shiva or Ganesh. It is nestled in the spectacular desert of Abanilla, an apocalyptic landscape of hills and mountainous folds between Murcia and Elche.
– In the three searches, 90,000 euros, 180 kilos of mercury and cinnabar, 17 kilos of marijuana, a pistol, several machetes, test tubes, stills for alchemy, manuals for handling dangerous substances and religious and esoteric material were found.
– For the police, these crimes were committed: drug trafficking (for the 17 kilos of marijuana found), crime against public health in the form of manufacture, supply and marketing of products and medicines and professional intrusion (for the homeopathic creams and products that did not have a health registration), illicit association and crime against the environment.
– According to Daniel Torregrosa, chemist and author of the book Del mito al laboratorio, “mercury has been associated with immortality since ancient times, but its consumption or inhalation destroys the digestive system in a short time and affects the central neurological system- English hatters used it to work the leather and ended up going mad.”
– “This mercury was used to form golf balls that we used during the ceremonies and passed to the person next to us to absorb the energy”, admits Nieves, the ex-member of the sect.

CLIMATE CHANGE

UN climate change summit (COP28) president says there is ‘no science’ behind demands for phase-out of fossil fuels:
– The president of Cop28, Sultan Al Jaber, has claimed there is “no science” indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C, the Guardian and the Centre for Climate Reporting can reveal.
– Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves”.
– The comments were “incredibly concerning” and “verging on climate denial”, scientists said, and they were at odds with the position of the UN secretary general, António Guterres.
– Al Jaber made the comments in ill-tempered responses to questions from Mary Robinson, the chair of the Elders group and a former UN special envoy for climate change, during a live online event on 21 November. As well as running Cop28 in Dubai, Al Jaber is also the chief executive of the United Arab Emirates’ state oil company, Adnoc, which many observers see as a serious conflict of interest.
– Al Jaber said: “I accepted to come to this meeting to have a sober and mature conversation. I’m not in any way signing up to any discussion that is alarmist. There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C.” Al Jaber then said: “Please help me, show me the roadmap for a phase-out of fossil fuel that will allow for sustainable socioeconomic development, unless you want to take the world back into caves.” “I don’t think [you] will be able to help solve the climate problem by pointing fingers or contributing to the polarisation and the divide that is already happening in the world. Show me the solutions. Stop the pointing of fingers. Stop it,” Al Jaber said.
– More than 100 African, European, Pacific and Caribbean countries back a phase-out of unabated fossil fuels. The US, the world’s biggest oil and gas producer, also backs a phase-out. Others, such as Russia, Saudi Arabia and China, reject the call. Both options are on the table at Cop28, as well as proposals to only mention coal, or to not say anything at all about fossil fuels. EU Chief Demands ‘Trillions’ for Green Agenda at U.N. Climate Summit:
– EU Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen is demanding new taxes and other schemes to take green agenda investment into the “trillions”.
– “More is needed,” the German politician urged, proclaiming: “We have to move from billions to trillions.” The EU leader admitted that to accomplish such a goal, Brussels will need to “find new sources of revenue”. To do so, von der Leyen said that she “fully supports” the plan proposed by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron to impose a global green tax targeting financial transactions to “raise more money for climate action.”
– The climate summit also saw leaders of 130 countries commit to including cutting emissions from farming as a key pillar of their respective green agendas, despite food prices soaring globally as a result of rising energy costs. While the pledge does not mandate any specific taxes on food production, the declaration will likely see more disputes with farmers, who have waged large-scale protest movements in countries like the Netherlands over environmentalist schemes to shut down their businesses. 2022 Nobel Prize winner in Physics, John Clauser, in speech leading up to the UN COP28 climate summit: “There is no climate crisis… the planet is not in danger”: {Translation, summary}
– Dr. John Clauser, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics, has made a powerful statement at a climate conference in Baltimore, USA. His presentation began with a shocking announcement: “Good news! There is no climate crisis… As much as it may upset many people, my message is that the planet is not in danger”.
– These statements take on a crucial dimension in the context of the 28th UN climate change summit (COP28) in Dubai, which runs from 30 November to 12 December. Despite UN calls for urgent action, Clauser questions the conventional narrative on the climate crisis. He explains his man-made climate change denial in this video where he demonstrates that natural clouds have 200 times the more effect on climate than either man-made carbon dioxide or methane, yet cloud influence is ignored in almost all climate studies. According to him, we don’t need less CO2 and methane, we are at the mercy of the much more powerful, ever-changing cloud patterns. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

Now AI can take your dead loved one’s social media posts and turn them into a hologram you can chat with in the kitchen. A comfort or the creepiest idea you’ve ever heard?:
– Dubbed ‘grief tech’ or ‘digital necromancy’, a growing number of startups are offering services that promise to keep the memories of lost loved ones alive for ever.
– The range of grief technology ranges from simple chatbots to sophisticated avatars that imitate the appearance and sound of the deceased.
– These are based on pre-recorded videos, social media posts and photos you provide of the subject. You can then ask questions of them, with an AI interface seamlessly and instantly providing the appropriate response depending on what has been asked (as created from the samples it was provided).
– Some use a video screen for visual display, while others using the same technology provide talking, moving holograms. Such is the speed of change powered by the AI revolution that what was once the stuff of science fiction has now become reality. As I promised, it’s been ten and a half months free of donation requests. After the last few stragglers were added into last year’s donation drive total, we finally reached the target goal. Well done & thanks again! The holiday season is returning. So now I must begin the DigameXtra 2023 Holiday Donation Drive. I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. So please consider the value you have received this passing year and show your support with a donation.

-Holiday Donation Info-
You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, after 2pm M-F by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Both the door and the mailbox have the name HARRIS on them. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you may need is my name and email address, see those below. Typically you will only need my email address. Remember, this is an “eGift card” sent to me by Amazon, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page. I will only know who sent it if you put your name in the “gift message” (mensaje) box of the purchase form.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
Buy the eGift card for:
Name: N.J. Harris
Email: digamextra@protonmail.com

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 36

(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained! )

Christmas Car Boot/Market: Sunday 3rd December. El Pantano Restaurant, Lake Vinuela:
This popular monthly Car Boot/ Market is on Sunday 3rd December at El Pantano Restaurant car park overlooking Lake Vinuela. Time 9.30 am to 1pm.
Location is easy to find at Km. 30 on the A356.
If you are approaching from the coast/Velez Malaga, drive over the bridge crossing Lake Vinuela and the car park/bar is just ahead on the right-hand side. Plenty of parking.
Our car boot is now in its 16th year, set in a very attractive venue overlooking Vinuela reservoir and mountains. It attracts visitors from far and wide, such as Granada to Colmenar and all surrounding districts. We are often complimented by the public on how friendly the market is and most importantly the high quality of items for sale. We not only have British stallholders and visitors but are quite International too. Our stallholders pride themselves on their items and many have been supporting the market for many years. This month I am highlighting just a few stallholders as it is near to the Christmas festive season, but must emphasize that not only do we sell high quality secondhand items but new also.
To name a few items that are popular such as clothing, all types of household items including furniture and glassware, tools, garden equipment but lovely handicrafts and artisan also.
I have picked out just 4 stallholders this month who have been with us for a long time.
We pride ourselves on having the following stalls although there are many others which will also be highlighted in other adverts.
A husband and wife team selling high quality fruits in season from their orchard and different marmalades, chutneys, pickles etc., sourced again from their own land.
Then there is Tony whose high quality costume jewellery at extremely reasonable prices and mostly boxed.
Bridget who makes exquisite silver items at silly low prices.
AAR who have a huge stand selling again high quality of all sorts, especially specialising in animal products.
These 4 stalls are extremely popular with the public who make it a point not to miss coming.
After this week our market will resume again on the first Sunday in March 2024. In the meantime we thank all of you who have supported us through the years and wish you ALL a very Happy and importantly Healthy festive time and we will all look forward to seeing you next year.
Please take care of yourselves and family, Sandra (Sandy) Vinuela. 633878471.

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Inflammation – A Psychological Thriller:
– Set in London, Brighton, Oxford, and Málaga; this fast paced novel follows Adam, a Psychologist, as he struggles to cope with life after the brutal murder of his truest love, Lorelei, at the hands of her abusive ex-partner. In the midst of his grief, and the guilt from his sense of having failed her; he lives on countdown, awaiting the release of the perpetrator. Furious with a criminal justice system that by its very nature only ever acts after the event, and increasingly feeling the need to do something for the cause in the meantime; the obsessive urge to intervene using his psychological skills, overpowers him. Will he even make it to the release date, or will he already have gone too far?
– I wrote this novel in and around Málaga province; in Torrox and Nerja particularly. It is a psychological/suspense/crime thriller, and would certainly be rated 18+ in places. It is available on Amazon in paperback and ebook in various countries. The links for the UK and Spain are below, and it is best to order it from where you currently are, and/or to where you would like it delivered. I very much hope you enjoy it (please leave a nice amazon review if so); and a big heartfelt thank you to anyone who orders it, and in doing so, is supporting an independent author.

SPAIN

Israel summons Spanish ambassador over PM Sanchez’s latest Gaza remark:
– Israel summoned Spain’s ambassador for a reprimand after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Thursday that he doubted Israel was respecting international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.
– Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he instructed his foreign minister to call in Spain’s ambassador for a reprimand “after the shameful statement by the Spanish prime minister on the same day that Hamas terrorists are murdering Israelis in our capital Jerusalem.”
– Earlier on Thursday, Sanchez said during an interview with Spanish state-owned broadcaster TVE that he doubts Israel is respecting international humanitarian law, given the number of casualties among civilians in Gaza. “What we are seeing in Gaza is not acceptable,” he added. Source: https://news.cgtn.com/news/2023-11-30/Israel-summons-Spain-s-ambassador-for-reprimand-over-PM-s-Gaza-remark-1p9UJzNXJ4Y/index.html

{Then, hours later…}

Israel withdraws its ambassador in Spain after Sánchez’s latest statements: {Translation, summary}
– The diplomatic soap opera between Spain and Israel has a new episode. The latest statements by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, questioning whether the Israeli army is acting in accordance with international law in Gaza, has prompted the Israeli government to call for consultations with its representative in Spain.
– The Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, has defended in a message on X, formerly Twitter, that Israel is acting in accordance with international law and has stressed that Hamas is solely responsible for the terrorist attack of 7 October and the current situation in the Gaza Strip. “Following the outrageous words of the Spanish Prime Minister, who repeats unfounded accusations, I decided to call the Israeli ambassador to Spain,” Rodica Radian-Gordon, “to return to consultations in Jerusalem,” Cohen announced.
– The announcement by Cohen comes after Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered that the Spanish ambassador to Israel, Ana Salomon, be recalled for a “reprimand” for Sánchez’s “disgraceful” statements.
– In an interview on TVE President Sanchez argued that “we friendly countries also have to tell each other things” and maintained that just as he has condemned the Hamas terrorist attack “with the same conviction”, he must tell Israel that its response must be based on International Humanitarian Law.
– “With the images we are seeing and the growing number, especially of children who are dying, I have real doubts that they are complying with it”, he admitted, after assuring that it was “very hard” to see the video of the attack that Netanyahu showed him during their meeting last week.
– The Israeli Prime Minister reproached Sánchez for having made this statement on the same day that “terrorists” murdered three Israelis in the “capital”, Jerusalem. The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place at a bus stop.
– The decision to recall the ambassador for consultations is a more forceful diplomatic measure than summoning the Spanish ambassador to express displeasure with Spain. Despite Warnings From EU That They Will Not Permit “Lawfare” In Member States, And Having Already Warned Sanchez That They Will Withhold EU Recovery Funds For Violations, Sánchez endorses & justifies his “lawfare”: {Translation, summary}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has opened up for the first time regarding the thesis of the “lawfare” defended by his separatist partners and which is set out in the government programme with Junts. During an interview on TVE, when asked about the lawfare, Sánchez openly admitted it and stated that “institutions have been instrumentalised for our political reasons”. {YIKES! Sounds like Chairman Mao. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.libertaddigital.com/espana/politica/2023-11-30/sanchez-hace-suya-la-teoria-del-lawfare-y-ya-habla-de-instituciones-instrumentalizadas-por-causas-politicas-7075132/

AXARQUÍA

‘The town hall isn’t listening to us’- Axarquía residents protest over water bills:
– The twenty or so residents of La Viñuela village, in the Axarquía area to the east of Malaga province, who have received exorbitant water bills in recent months protested outside the town hall on Monday 27 November.
– Some of the residents have received water bills of up to 75,000 euros for two quarters and have described the situation as “unjust and Kafkaesque”. The residents, most of whom are foreign, claim “it is impossible for us to have consumed these amounts”. They blame the “erroneous” meter readings on “air entering the pipes because of frequent cuts to the supply”. MALAGA PROVINCE

Following similar actions by Andalucia earlier this week, El Pleno de Málaga rejects Sánchez’s investiture agreements and urges the government to “treat the autonomous regions with equal justice”: {Translation, summary}
– The Plenary of Málaga City Council has approved the urgent motion of the PP to reject “the agreements reached by Pedro Sánchez as leader of the PSOE to achieve his investiture, which include commitments that establish privileges, violate the principles enshrined in the Constitution and deepen the north-south divide” in the country.
– The Plenary, with the PP and Vox voting in favour and PSOE and Con Málaga voting against, also urged the Government “to grant equal and fair treatment to the different autonomous regions with a distribution of funds based on the population weight of each community and not on nationalist and ideological sensitivities”. TORROX

Torrox to get recycling centre:
– The green light was given at a council meeting on Monday 27 November, but must now get the necessary authorisation from the Andalusian regional government before work can start. Once work starts, the ‘punto limpio’ project is expected to take nine months to complete and has a budget of 680,000 euros.
– Once open, the facility, which will be located in the Pago de Santilla area, will allow residents to dispose of household waste which is too big or dangerous to be thrown into the street containers. It will also allow farmers to dispose of plastics, as well as stubble, pasture and other agricultural waste. USA

Henry Kissinger, secretary of state to Richard Nixon, dies at 100:
– Henry Kissinger, the former secretary of state under Richard Nixon who became one of the most prominent and controversial figures of US foreign policy in the 20th century, has died. He was 100.
– The celebrity diplomat has advised a dozen presidents over his long career, including Joe Biden, and won a shared Nobel prize for negotiating the end to the Vietnam war.
– But his legacy was also defined by his contempt for human rights and efforts to protect US corporate interests at all costs, with opponents across the world casting him as a war criminal. He supported Indonesia’s military dictator in the invasion of East Timor, backed the invasion of Angola by the apartheid regime in South Africa and worked with the CIA to overthrow the democratically-elected president of Chile. He also authorized wiretaps of reporters and his own staff.

FINANCIAL

Spain’s Hidden Economic Disaster- Sanchez policies post-Covid have not stopped shrinking exports or Spain’s financial decline, now unlikely to achieve EU goals despite grandiose Sanchez admin projections: {Translation}
– Nadia Calviño has not stopped assuring that Spain is an example for the EU and the OECD. María Jesús Montero is constantly asserting that the economy is growing strongly and is a model for the major countries to follow. And Pedro Sánchez keeps committing to spending that will be difficult to pay for if the crisis continues to worsen.
– But, in the midst of all this, a graph from the Tax Agency has embarrassed the entire government. The tax office keeps track of the sales and exports of large companies. And since commerce was re-established after the impact of covid, Spain has not stopped losing weight in its exports. And that means that Spain’s economic weight has not stopped falling and giving away market share – and employment – to other countries.
– Tax rises amounting to more than 100,000 million euros, insults to employers, executive decrees for expropriation of benefits, permanent increases in the interprofessional minimum wage, legal uncertainty in all sectors, attacks on private property, a labour reform focused on the elimination of flexibility and hundreds and hundreds of regulations designed to increase environmental, union and bureaucratic control. All of this has generated the obvious consequences: an incessant loss of weight in the Spanish economy.
– The graph drawn up by the Tax Agency with the sales and exports of large companies is a true reflection of this political penalisation of companies, the generation of wealth and employment in Spain, as can be seen in the image that LD publishes today. Thus, if the rate of exports of large companies reached a year-on-year rate of 22% in May 2022, with a stabilised rate of 11.9%, at the moment, September 2023, it is -4.3% and a stabilised rate in the latest data is from June 2023- of 0.7%. In other words, exports – the ability to compete with the rest of the economies – have collapsed.
– “Total sales of Large Companies, deflated and corrected for seasonal and calendar variations, remained virtually constant in September compared to the same month in 2022”, the AEAT report states. But the truth is that the trend is devastating, because it has not ceased to mark a downward trend. “In the quarter as a whole, growth was 0.6%, within a pattern of deceleration already observed last quarter. The reason for this behaviour lies in a certain stabilisation in the increase in domestic sales, at the same time as a contraction in exports”, explains María Jesús Montero’s department.
– “Exports remained in negative territory in September, with a fall of 1.8%, although more moderate than that observed in August. This data closes the quarter in the negative (-3.1%), something that has not occurred since the first quarter of 2021,” admits the Treasury. “This decline was reflected, with different intensity, in two aspects: sales to the EU recorded a slight decrease (-0.1%), while sales to third countries deepened their fall to 6.2%,” it adds. Shane MacGowan, lead singer of The Pogues and a laureate of booze and beauty, dies at age 65: Shane MacGowan, the boozy, rabble-rousing singer and chief songwriter of The Pogues, who infused traditional Irish music with the energy and spirit of punk, died Thursday, his family said. He was 65. The musician had been hospitalized in Dublin for several months after being diagnosed with viral encephalitis in late 2022. He was discharged last week, ahead of his upcoming birthday on Christmas Day. Born on Christmas Day 1957 in England to Irish parents, MacGowan spent his early years in rural Ireland before the family moved back to London. Ireland remained the lifelong center of his imagination and his yearning. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/shane-macgowan-pogues-dead-5b6f1f1becb575ceffca4ee01b3b12a6

SPAIN

The King’s speech- asks politicians for “a solid and united Spain, without divisions or confrontations”: {Translation, summary}
– The King’s first major speech after the pacts of Pedro Sánchez and Carles Puigdemont has been a plea for understanding, cohesion and unity, along with a fierce defence of the Constitution, without direct mention of amnesty. “Our obligation, the obligation of all the institutions, is to bequeath to the youngest Spaniards a solid and united Spain, without divisions or confrontations”, said the Monarch in Congress before the Government, deputies and senators during the opening of the new legislature, the 15th and the one that begins with the deepest political and social division of those that have begun during the reign of King Felipe.
– In this context, the Monarch wanted to vindicate the 1978 pact as the moment in which Spain “reached its best expression in mutual understanding without impositions or exclusions”, and reminded the Government, deputies and senators of their “obligation to carry out the constitutional functions entrusted to them, always seeking the common good of all Spaniards”.
– This task, he told them, “is, unequivocally, the return due to the trust granted by the citizens” since “the magnitude of the challenges we face demands -from all of us- a great responsibility. The Spanish people deserve it and the exercise of their representation demands it”, he urged them.
– At a time when the PSOE and Junts pacts are testing constitutional limits and questioning the separation of powers, the King defended the validity of the Magna Carta, stressing that its values “are not anchored in the past and must be permanently projected into the future”.
– “We must honour its spirit, respect it and comply with it, to make effective the definition of Spain as a Social and Democratic State of Law”, he added, before remarking that these are the “three essential, inseparable and inseparable pillars of the same historical and political reality, which is Spain, and which guarantee our collective coexistence”. Exiled leader of the Junts, Carles Puigdemont, threatens Sanchez & PSOE that he will vote with the PP “if there is not enough progress” in fulfilling of deals Sanchez made to obtain investiture votes- “I could even reach an agreement with the PP to overthrow the government of Socialist Pedro Sánchez with a motion of censure”: {Translation, summary}
– The former Catalan president and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont {pic}, has warned that if “there is not enough progress” in their agreements with the PSOE, his party could add its votes to those of the Popular Party in the Congress of Deputies to vote against laws such as the state budget.
– “We could vote with the PP to overturn the budget or for a resolution on Israel, where our position is actually more aligned” with that of the party headed by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Puigdemont told ‘Politico’ during the ceremony held last night by this medium to unveil its list of the ’28 most influential personalities’ in Europe in 2024, in which the Catalan appears in second place among the nine ‘disruptors’.
– As reported by this newspaper on Wednesday, Puigdemont told the president of the European People’s Party (EPP) and leader of that group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, last night that he could even reach an agreement with the PP to overthrow the government of Socialist Pedro Sánchez in the middle of its mandate with a motion of censure. ANDALUCÍA

Spain’s national government and Junta de Andalucía strike 1.4 billion deal to help protect endangered Doñana National Park wetlands:
– The agreement puts an end to two years of political negotiations and promises to compensate affected farmers 100,000 euros per hectare if they return their land to nature or grow crops that do not need irrigating.
– The deal was required after the Junta proposed controversial plans to legalise more use of water for irrigation from an area close to the famous protected wetlands, {which received strong opposition}. The national park is threatened by climate change and illegal irrigation and is drying it out at an alarming rate. Photo: wiki.it.

The Autonomous Police is “at risk of collapse” due to lack of personnel: {Translation, summary}
– The unit attached to the National Police of the Junta de Andalucía, popularly known as the Autonomous Police, is clearly “at risk of collapse” due to a lack of personnel. Currently, the catalogue of jobs establishes that there should be 724 police officers for this unit in the whole community, however, there are currently around 380. In other words, only 52% of the staffing is covered. The understaffing situation has been common throughout the community for years. – In 1977 the concept of the autonomous community structure of Spain’s provinces was being formally developed; it would be officially created the following year. Initially, autonomy was only proposed for Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia. Andalucia soon demanded the same treatment, which resulted in the famous Andalucia-wide protest of December 4th, 1977 {upper pic}.
– During these protests there was an incident that changed the tone of the demonstrations since it ended with the death of García Caparrós. This young man, only 18 years old, joined the people of Malaga who were asking for autonomy for Andalucia and since the Andalucian flag was not flying in the Provincial Council, Caparrós climbed to the balcony of the Institution to place the flag on the mast, and at that moment the police shot and killed the unarmed man who was posing no threat to anyone but himself. If any of the public was not supporting the protest, after this murder, most soon came on board. The protestors won this time. The first elections to the Parliament of Andalusia took place on May 23, 1982.
– Now it’s 2023, and the same players, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia, no longer satisfied with autonomy, are demanding independence. Not only that, they are demanding the forgiveness of tens of billions of euros of public debt. And guess what? Now Andalucia is demanding the same treatment, again. Will that include independence? I haven’t seen Andalucian independence specifically mentioned by a major figure in the press recently. However, here in the land of anarquistas, it has been discussed in the shadows since the 1870’s “Mano Negra Affair” emerged, a scandal involving a secret organized Andalucian anarchist movement, who’s activities resulted in the execution of four alleged members of the Black Hand in Jerez in 1892 {lower pic}

President of Andalucia, Juanma Moreno, calls for people to take to the streets- “An Andalucian deserves the same as a Catalan”: {Translation, summary}
– There are some prime political points that will drive the next four years of legislature, and Juanma Moreno, the Andalusian president, has cited several in this latest speech. Two mainstays that will last four years: confrontation with the central government, with some backwaters such as Doñana, and grievance with respect to Catalonia.
– Two new points of focus emerged in the speech:
“The Andalusians deserve the same as the Catalans”.
“Can you imagine what we could do with the 50,000 million euros that have been agreed for Catalonia alone?
– The President of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has opened the State of the Community Debate with a one hour and 38 minutes speech in which he has admitted his deep concern about the SAS waiting lists, which is the underlying problem that can drag the legislature, and in which he has opened fire against the national legislature that now begins with the Government’s agreement with the two Catalan pro-independence parties and the proposal of a special funding for Catalonia. For Moreno, “Andalusians once again have a historic obligation to our country to defend equality”. He referred to the demonstrations of 4 December 1977, when hundreds of thousands of Andalusians took to the streets to demand a Statute of Autonomy, like the one planned only for Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia.
– Juanma Moreno will participate this Sunday, December 3, the eve of the commemoration of the Andalucia autonomy protests of 4 Dec 1977, in a demonstration called by various associations against the amnesty and the agreements with Catalonia. Andalucia bans the sale of energy drinks and vapes to minors and limits use of mobile phones in classrooms: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, announced on Wednesday that the “use of mobile devices” in Andalucian classrooms will be limited, in conjunction with the educational community, and the sale of energy drinks and vapes to minors will be banned.
– The measure on the limitation of mobile phones is part of the concern expressed by the president about the “increase in violence among young people and adolescents”, so that Andalucia has to be alert to new realities that are putting our minors at serious risk.
– In this sense, he welcomed the initiative of the Working Group created in the Andalusian Chamber of Deputies on the protection of minors from access to pornography on the Internet. “We have to take firm steps to respond to the concerns of families and society as a whole,” he said.
– Likewise, with regard to the ban on the sale of energy drinks and vapes to minors, Moreno said that it is essential to take measures to protect the health of children and adolescents.
– For this reason, the Junta will draw up a Plan for the Prevention of Addictions in Children and Adolescents, which will begin in 2024 with restrictions to counter youth addictions to mobile phones, energy drinks, cannabis and vapes. He indicated that these are proposals that professionals and parents have been calling for for some time. MALAGA PROVINCE

Modest rains forecast for Malaga province, not enough to relieve the drought:
– The weather front will sweep from west to east, with a trough that will bring precipitation to the area, according to the director of Spain’s met office, Aemet, in Malaga, Jesús Riesco.
– Late this Wednesday evening light rain is forecast to fall in the Serranía de Ronda. On Thursday, more substantial showers are forecast for inland areas, again especially in the Ronda region. On Friday, in the first half of the day, the showers are expected to be widespread and moderate.
“It will rain from the middle of Thursday to the middle of Friday, but it will not rain out of the ordinary; it is a typical cold front,” the Aemet director said. No precipitation is expected on Saturday and Sunday and the forecast for next week is very changeable.
– The expected rainfall will provide some relief for crops, but will have a negligible impact on the drought, after a very dry November. In fact, only the showers forecast for 30 November will prevent the month from reaching zero rainfall at a provincial level, which is unusual. In Malaga city rainfall could remain at zero for the month which is typically considered the second wettest of the year. December is, historically, the wettest month in Malaga but, for the medium term, there is no sign of any change to the current situation.

FINANCIAL

The Euribor suffers its biggest monthly fall in three years although the average mortgage will rise by almost 100 euros with the November review: {Translation, summary}
– The pressure of the Euribor on mortgagors is easing, although it does not cease. With just over 24 hours to go until the end of November, everything suggests that the benchmark index used to calculate the interest on the vast majority of variable-rate mortgages in Spain will close the month slightly above 4% after experiencing its biggest monthly fall in more than three years. Even so, those who review their monthly payment with this latest figure will have to face a rise of almost 100 euros in the case of the average mortgage.
– Despite the drop, mortgage repayments updated with the November figure will rise, as the index is higher than the 2.828% recorded a year ago. For an average loan of 150,000 euros at 30 years and with a spread of 0.99%, the update will increase the monthly payment from 691.35 to 790.81 euros, which will mean an average increase of 99.45 euros per month. In the case of a mortgage of 300,000 euros with the same conditions, the increase would reach 198.91 euros, going from 1,382.7 to 1,581.61 euros.
