Tiscali Email Service Shutdown: Tiscali has converted to TalkTalk Email.
The Tiscali website redirects to the TalkTalk website now. Tiscali users have been alerted beginning in late 2021 to update their accounts to convert them to TalkTalk accounts. Tiscali emails can no longer be accepted for new DigameXtra subscriptions, and will stop receiving new daily email issues of DigameXtra. Some basic functionality still exists for users of the old Tiscali email, but it no longer supports all the functions required to display DigameXtra emails properly. WordPress now blocks them. If you have this problem, the only solutions are to update your Tiscali email to TalkTalk email, or change to a different email service and subscribe the new email account. (Thanks to Mary for bringing this to my attention.) -Ed.

Parking at Minigolf La Herradura:
-Important Notice: Mingolf La Herradura will be closed until Saturday 15 July. I will confirm, I hope, the reopening in next Friday’s DigameXtra Sponsor’s post. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Well, after some heavy lifting, measuring and painting the first two-thirds of the Minigolf La Herradura plot is now home to 20 parking spaces available for daily parking. If you are planning on spending the day in La Herradura this summer holiday, you could not ask for a more central location.
There is a large bathroom available as well as a picnic table where self-catering is allowed. Security cameras cover the entire plot. You could almost call this “boutique” parking. As such I highly recommend that you call in advance for reservations.
-Opening Hours and Admission fee: A daily pass costs 10 euros and we will be open every day from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m until at least 11 September. As always, feel free to ring me with any questions you might have on +34 603 416 632.
-“Guerilla” nine-hole course: The price of admission includes unlimited access to the Minigolf course itself. The full 18-hole course is complete and easily playable. It has tucked in nicely at the back in the space previously used for racquet sports and one petanca lane. The only difference from before is shorter spacing from one hole to the next.
The second petanca lane has been converted into what I refer to as the nine hole “guerilla” course, the reason being that you decide the layout of the holes in whatever sneaky way you prefer. Nine actual holes are provided and there are various obstacles spread about. The players then decide how they want to arrange them, and where the hole will begin. It’s a fun way to create longer “holes” criss-crossing each other and there is no wrong design. A lot of fun in a small space.
-Location: We are very easy to find, albeit obscured from the beachfront Paseo Andrés Segovia. (See picture at the top. The red arrow reflects the fact these little alleys are one-way streets.). Please visit our website: www.minigolflh.es , contact tab, for full Google map.

I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing the purchase of a used car and sharing it 50/50. We are 2 retired American professionals who own a home in La Herradura since 2016. Our plan is to come to Spain for 6 months each year – from November- April. We would split all costs such as insurance and maintenance. Three meteor showers that you do not want to miss this month of July: {Translation}
– Astronomy enthusiasts are in for an eventful month of July. In particular, several meteor showers are expected, which are associated with the remains of comets that cross the Earth’s orbit and leave their successive passes close to the Sun. – This July it will also be possible to observe the Afa-Capricornids, a phenomenon named after its proximity to the alpha star in the constellation of Capricorn. They originate in the dust trail left by comet 196P/NEAT and occur between 3 July and 15 August. Their maximum trail is expected on 30 July, when about four meteors per hour can be seen in good visibility. This is a much less active but brighter star shower than the previous one.
– The last astronomical event scheduled for these dates is the Pisces-Austrinids, a shower named after the proximity of the constellation of the Southern Fish. First seen by W. F. Denning in 1911, it can be observed between 15 July and 10 August. Its maximum is expected on 28 July, when about five meteors per hour will be visible in good visibility.
– This July will also see the first Perseids or tears of St. Lawrence. Although their peak activity occurs on the nights of 11-13 August, they usually begin to be seen around 17 July and end around 24 August. This year is expected to be an excellent year to observe them, as their maximum will occur three days before the new moon (the new moon will take place on 16 August). Andalucía registers the biggest weekly drop in water in reservoirs of the year: {Translation} 04/07/2023, 14:42
– In the last week, Andalusia has recorded a drop of 60 hm3 of water in its reservoirs, the largest recorded this year, which means that reserves now stand at 26.15 percent of their total capacity, at 3,130 hm3.
– The Andalusian Government has stressed that the figures are “very worrying, very alarming”, as the region has 855 hm3 less water in reservoirs than just a year ago, the spokesman, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, told a press conference.
– The Governing Council has analysed this Tuesday the weekly drought report, in which a decrease of 30 hm3 (-0.37%) is registered in the Guadalquivir Basin, which means that it is at 23.61% of the total storage capacity of this demarcation.
– In the case of the Andalucian Mediterranean basins, the volume in storage is 389 hm3 (33.57% of the total), having fallen by 0.60%.
– In Guadalete-Barbate, the reservoirs are at 23.12%, having reduced their volume by 12 hm3 (-0.73%); while in the Tinto-Odiel-Piedras-Chanza river basin district there has been a decrease of 11 hm3 (-0.98%) to 463 hm3, which represents 41.56% of its total storage capacity.
– In addition, the Governing Council has authorised works to improve the treatment of several municipalities in the province of Granada, with four projects to group together discharges and four treatment plants to serve the towns of Íllora, Alomartes, Algarinejo, Campotéjar and the area of Alquería del Fargue, in the city of Granada. Junta to cover cost of autonomo fees for self-employed workers newly registered in Andalucía: The Junta de Andalucía has announced that it will subsidise the total annual fee for anyone who registers as self-employed this year. Financial aid for business start-ups will also be announced this and is expected to be up to 5,500 euros. Regional Minister of Employment Rocío Blanco, announced on Friday 30 June in Malaga, that the so-called ‘zero quota’ will take effect in Andalucía from next year but any worker that has registered as self-employed since 1 January 2023 will be eligible to apply. Cereal harvest in Malaga’s fields this year is ‘worst in history’ as drought plagues the province:
– Malaga’s wheat farmers are lamenting this year’s cereal harvest as drought causes crop losses of up to 90% in some areas of the province. In addition to the lack of rain in February, there has been intense heat in spring, resulting in drier than usual conditions. According to several farmers, temperatures above 30 degrees killed off the sowing season.
– Farming cooperative Dcoop’s cereals director, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, has been working in the sector in the province for three decades and had no hesitation in describing 2023 as the “worst in history”. #MeToo Backfire In Malaga- Woman arrested for fabricating a fake rape in Malaga to hide infidelity from her girlfriend: {Translation, summary}
– She went on holiday for a few days with a female friend (not her girlfriend). The destination was Malaga. They arrived from Melilla, partied and returned. Once in the City of Melilla, the woman reported that she had been raped, that she was the victim of a sexual assault. In reality, it was all a lie. The complainant was arrested by the National Police. The accusation of false rape was made to cover up a night of consensual passion with a man…from her own girlfriend at home.
– According to her account, she met a man one night in a discotheque. According to the version given at the police station, after accompanying her to her hotel room, he entered the room and raped her.

Spain to lead the EU — but who is to lead Spain?:
– Spain is set to hold early elections, just three weeks after it takes over the EU Council presidency on July 1 – and it’s by no means clear that the Socialist prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, will win and stay on as head of government.
– Sanchez has been downplaying the impact the elections might have on Spain’s leadership of the EU. “Democracy is never a problem,” he said in Madrid at the beginning of June. “It’s not the first time in Europe that elections have taken place during a presidency. Employment Numbers Gains Are Statistical Trickery- one in four contracts lasts less than a week: {Translation, summary}

– The new “star” contract of the Spanish labour market has a maximum duration of seven days. Between January and May, more one-week contracts were signed than permanent contracts. According to data collected by the Ministry of Labour, 1.25 million contracts signed in the period January-May this year had a maximum duration of seven days.
– Including one week contract jobs as “newly created jobs” in labour statistics measuring unemployment rates over longer periods, without removing them at their termination, is a result of recent labour reforms by the Socialist government. This now manipulates the data regarding new jobs created, and the total number of employed, in a very deceptive fashion, presenting a declining situation as an improvement. Axarquía bandit museum to hold wine-tasting and flamenco evening:
– The new Galería del Bandolero museum in the Axarquía village of El Borge, which opened last February with the largest collection of its kind in the world, will hold its first ‘Tragabuches’ evening, combining local history with flamenco and cheese and wine tasting on 15 July. The event is named after one of Spain’s most notorious nineteenth century bandits.

– In Malaga city, of the 26 health centres, only six will open in the afternoon: Cruz de Humilladero, El Palo, Churriana, El Cónsul, La Roca and Puerta Blanca. In the mornings and evenings, everything remains the same as the rest of the year. From 8:00 to 15:00 all health centres are open, and from 20:00 to 8:00, open are only those with emergency points, which in Malaga city are Puerta Blanca, Cruz de Humilladero, El Palo and Churriana.

The Regional Ministry of Health did issue a note in an attempt to make the evening closures go unnoticed by stating that “all health centres in the province will remain open during the summer season”. Man who allegedly barricaded himself in a Burriana home takes his own life: {Translation, summary}
– Friday afternoon was a nervous and worrying one in Islas Baleares street in Burriana. At midday a call came in to the 112 telephone number alerting that shouts of a fight had been heard, as well as gunshots in a flat in this street. It was also reported that the man’s children and wife, along with their pets, had left the house in question.
– The Guardia Civil carried out a large deployment in the area, as everything suggested that the individual had barricaded himself in the house with a shotgun. There were tense moments throughout the afternoon and finally the agents of the Reserve and Security Group (GRS) appeared, who on entering the house found the body of the man, who had taken his own life.
– The Guardia Civil cordoned off the area to prevent damage to the neighbours of the house and residents of the neighbourhood, and the tension became apparent when, as the GRS entered, they heard knocks that many of the witnesses mistook for gunshots. On entering the house, the officers found that the individual was alone in the house, so there were no injuries other than those of the dead victim.

Overall violence, however, appeared to lessen from previous nights. Police made 719 arrests nationwide by early Sunday following a mass security deployment aimed at quelling France’s worst social upheaval in years. More than 3,000 people have been detained overall since the death. The mass police deployment has been welcomed by some frightened residents of targeted neighbourhoods and shop owners whose stores have been ransacked, but further frustrated those who see police behaviour as the core of the crisis. Parking at Minigolf La Herradura
-The Makeover: Keeping it cool! Well, after some heavy lifting, measuring and painting the first two-thirds of the Minigolf La Herradura plot is now home to 20 parking spaces available for daily parking from Saturday, 1 July until at minimum the middle of September.
If you are planning on spending the day in La Herradura, you could not ask for a parking area in a more central location. By the middle or end of next week there will be sun shades covering the majority of the lot and the price of admission includes unlimited access to the Minigolf course itself. Also, there is a large bathroom available as well as a picnic table where self-catering is allowed. Security cameras cover the entire plot. You could almost call this “boutique” parking. As such I highly recommend that you call in advance for reservations.
-Opening Hours and Admission fee: A daily pass will cost 10 euros and I plan to be open every day from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Overnight and long-term parking are also available though there will be no access to the cars outside of standard hours, except perhaps earlier in the morning by appointment. *I want to add that all of the above is subject to change. To be honest, I’m taking a flyer on this project, but if changes are made they will be posted at the entrance and I will explain the change before any admission ticket is issued.
-Don’t need parking but would like to play the Minigolf course this summer? Our special offer:
The full 18-hole Minigolf course is complete and easily playable. It has tucked in nicely at the back in the space previously used for racquet sports and petanca. The only difference from before is shorter spacing from one hole to the next. However, a big plus is that the course is now completely covered in shade. Not only that, but there was space for the bonus nine “guerilla” holes. And the price is, drum roll please: 5 euros per person! Your eyes do not deceive, only 5 euros regardless of age for unlimited play. Please book at least one hour in advance via phone or WhatsApp to confirm your time for this special offer.

– 14 days for consumers to be able to receive their ticket refunds.
– All online travel agencies will have to provide their phone number and email address on their website so consumers can communicate their concerns or requests with ease.
– Other changes that online travel agencies are expected to apply include making information about specific benefits of different service packages transparent. Online travel agencies will also have to let consumers know about the exact consequences that some services can have on the consumer’s rights in case of flight disruptions, which can include cases when contact details haven’t been received by airlines or when the second leg in a two-leg trip has to be paid even if the first leg was cancelled.

Alora returns to its origins this weekend with the Al-Arabic Nights- programme, activities and concerts: {Translation, summary}

100+ Viking cruise passengers hit with bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea amid a nasty norovirus outbreak onboard, most outbreaks since 2016:
– The Viking Neptune transformed into a cross-continental petri dish as more than 100 passengers onboard the cruise ship fell ill with the highly contagious norovirus this month.
– In a Tuesday update, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 110 cruisers – more than 13% of the ship’s 838 passengers – were affected by the gastrointestinal virus during the vessel’s two-week trip from Iceland to New York, which ended Tuesday. Nine crew members, or nearly two percent of the ship’s staff, also reported being ill during the voyage, which included stops in Greenland and Canada.
– Those who were sick experienced abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhoea, according to the CDC.
– The CDC has already logged 13 outbreaks of norovirus on cruise ships in the first half of this year – the most since 2016, which saw the same number of outbreaks across 12 months.

The Internet Is Far More Fragile Than You Think- Can Putin turn off the internet?:
– The global network on which we depend so much is alarmingly physical and eminently vulnerable. According to Marshal Edward Stringer, former director of operations for the British Ministry of Defence, 95% of all international data traffic passes through a small number of undersea cables. We’re talking about roughly 200 cables, each the thickness of a garden hose and capable of transferring about 200 terabytes per second.
– In the last 20 years, Russia has invested heavily in systems capable of attacking this network of underwater cables. The Kremlin today has a fleet of sophisticated unmanned submersibles designed specifically for this purpose. So does China. A wide raging escalation of Russia’s armed conflicts may well include an attack against the undersea cable systems.
– This isn’t some hypothetical threat. As recently as October 2022, a submarine cable connecting the Shetland Islands to the rest of the world was severed at two points. A few days prior, a Russian “scientific research” ship was detected in the area. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to prove that Russia cut the cable. In fact, most of the time, outages are due to accidents with fishing boats or seismic events on the seabed. Even so, the coincidence greatly worried Western powers’ security agencies, which perceived the incident as a warning from the Kremlin. Another relevant event was the decision taken in February 2023 by China’s two largest telecommunications companies, which decided to withdraw from the international consortium that is developing an 11,930-mile (19,200 kilometre) network of submarine cables connecting Southwest Asia and Western Europe.
– Such an attack would cripple global trade, banking and finance, telecommuting, not to mention the technology and communication industries as a whole and would likely trigger an instantaneous global recession. Klimt’s ‘Lady with a Fan’ sells for over $100 million: The last portrait Austrian artist Gustav Klimt painted before he died was sold at auction on Tuesday, fetching over $108 million (€98.5 million), according to Sotheby’s auction house. Bidding on the masterpiece far exceeded Sotheby’s price estimate of $80 million. Kilmt’s untimely death at the age of 55, brought on by the influenza pandemic of 1918, meant that several of his works remained unfinished. – Friday. Two outstanding artists will perform: Luciano Pompilio, with his show “El repertorio guitarrístico”; and Andrea Vettoretti, with “Quantum One”. The chosen setting is the Cloister of the Convent of San Francisco de Vélez , a historical environment that will add a special touch to the musical experience.
– Saturday. The Festival will move on Saturday, July 1, to the Palace of the Marqués de Beniel, the stage that will host the concert by the Bulgarian violinist Kamelyia Naidenova and the Italian guitarist Giovanni Grano entitled ‘Salón romántico’.
– Sunday. At the Teatro del Carmen, the closing concert of this new edition of the Festival will take place, under the name ‘Músicas del Mundo’ and ‘Violin y guitarra’, by violinist Antonio Egea and guitarist Fernando Espi.

Almayate Fair: June 30 to July 2, plus pre-fair info
Four days full of fun, music, gastronomy and tradition.
– Pre-fair. It starts next Thursday, June 29, with the opening of attractions at special prices for all children.
-Friday. The Fair will officially start on Friday, with the switching on of the official lighting, at 9:30 p.m., which will give way to the performances of the “A-Compás Musical” orchestra and ‘Ñ-CLAN’.
– Saturday. At 9:30 pm the “Moliere” orchestra will perform and at 10:30 pm the Miss Visitor will be chosen before the “Moliere” orchestra will play again. The lights will point before midnight to the great performance of the day, with the group ‘DeCai’, and at 01:45 in the morning, Dj Nene will make the young people of the municipality jump. One of the highlights will be the horse trials, a tradition that will take place throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

Phasing Out Cash- Spain is the first eurozone country to ban rental payment in cash:
-Spain’s new Housing Law includes a little-known clause which prevents tenants from paying their rent to landlords in cash, with some exceptions.
– Spain’s Ley de Vivienda came into force on May 18th, with far-reaching changes for tenants and landlords across the country. But one clause which initially escaped the headlines, regarding the method of rental payment, is now proving controversial.
– According to the new law, it is no longer legal for renters to pay landlords in cash, as the newly implemented legislation states that the rent must be paid “by electronic means”. In other words, tenants can’t put cash in an envelope and hand it to their landlord, it has to be a bank transfer with a digital footprint.
– The only exception to the rule is when either renter or landlord “do not have a bank account or access to electronic payment means”.
– The decision means that Spain is the first eurozone country to ban rental payment in cash, “en metálico” as they say in Spanish.
– “All this is being done under the premise of transparency, but they’re limiting rights. This rule could be in direct conflict with the amendment of the Law in Defence of Consumers and Users approved last year which establishes the possibility or the right of paying in cash”, Marín, delegate for leading Spanish consumer watchdog OCU argued, adding that cash “should not be associated with being a dirty means of payment”.
– The ban on rent paid in cash also potentially clashes with this legislation, as any rent under €1,000 can purportedly be paid in cash according to this other pre-existing law.

What Tourism Boom? Costa del Sol hotels start to offer deals as summer bookings slow:
– {Evidently all those articles in local news sources about how hotels are booked to capacity all summer, and a fab recovery to beyond pre-Covid levels, were only wishful thinking. Anyone who has walked along the beach on a recent weekend night can tell you that most of the Costa is still dreadfully lacking in terms of foreign tourists. Only the prime areas, Marbs/Estapona, are busy. There are beach bars in Torrox Costa that didn’t even bother to open for Noche del San Juan last weekend! That would have been unheard of before Covid. -Ed.}
– Some hotels on the Costa del Sol are starting to offer deals in a bid to revive demand after bookings slowed down in mid-May and have not picked up. Hotels have attributed the slow-down in bookings to the final stretch of the academic year, and uncertainty about final grades, as well as the general elections, which were pushed forward and will now be held on 23 July.
– The Aehcos association of hoteliers of the Costa del Sol confirmed it was starting to see a trickle of (discounted) offers for July in hotels on the Costa del Sol, and that the rate of sales is not recovering. In its latest report, hotel occupancy levels are below those of last year for July and August. Although the association expects to update the data this week, it was at the start of June when Aehcos raised the alarm about the slowdown in bookings, warning that the rate of demand for July and August is between 10 and 14% below that recorded last year.
– Founder of the MS Hotels chain, Miguel Sanchez, said a drop in demand, especially from Spaniards, has been noticeable in the past two or three weekends. “We have had a very good start to the year, a good summer is expected, but the pace of sales reflects the uncertainty of families due to the high impact of inflation,” he said. The situation does not look like it will improve anytime soon. Drought Update- La Viñuela reservoir faces summer at historic lows, beach showers shut in Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga & Algarrobo: {Translation}
– Once again the reservoir of La Viñuela {pic} faces the summer at a minimum and with signs of worsening, in extreme drought. This weekend it has equalled the historic minimum of water reserves to which it descended at the end of December 2008. At that time it only accumulated 15.2 cubic hectometres, which represented just 9.2% of its total capacity, the same figure it has just reached now, at the end of June 2023. Just a year ago, the La Viñuela reservoir had 24.43 cubic hectometres. Andalusia is also beginning the summer with its water reserves at historic lows. – The Andalusian government insists that “the effort and the commitment of the government to regenerated water will allow us to provide the irrigators of the Axarquia with an additional 23 cubic hectometres of new water”, although “after the summer”. – Sweden has just dealt a severe blow to the globalist climate agenda by scraping its green energy targets. In a statement announcing the new policy in the Swedish Parliament, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson warned that the Scandinavian nation needs “a stable energy system.”
– Svantesson asserted that wind and solar power are too “unstable” to meet the nation’s energy requirements. Instead, the Swedish Government is shifting back to nuclear power and has ditched its targets for a “100% renewable energy” supply.
– Countries are being pushed toward “renewable energy” to meet the goals of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) green agenda. The group argues that the Swedish decision is “an important step in the right direction, implicitly acknowledging the low quality of unstable wind and solar, and is part of a general collapse of confidence in the renewable energy agenda pioneered in the Nordic countries and in Germany.”
– Under its new direction, Sweden now views nuclear power as being critical to the nation’s “100% fossil-free” energy future. Sweden can “afford to reject fossil fuels, relying on nuclear and hydro and biomass,” Net Zero Watch suggests.
