What Is The Koldo Case?: {DigameXtra}
– The stories currently dominating the Spanish headlines all involve the Koldo case. Due to the complexity of this situation, and lack of verifiable facts, I have been avoiding the matter for now; so far it’s lots of arrests, accusations, name calling and pointing of fingers, but little solid fact. It is however giving the PSOE a black eye, and President Sanchez is watching his popularity numbers plummet. Here is the simplified version.
– During the covid panic (2020-22) the national gov’t, controlled by the socialist PSOE, contracted for hundreds of millions of euros worth of masks and testers.
– It has been revealed that these contracts were inappropriately awarded to just a few companies, and that these companies were not properly vetted.
– That resulted in several consequences:
*The items purchased were often of inferior quality, not meeting industry standards of effectiveness or accuracy.
*It is alleged that several high level socialists, close to President Sanchez and his advisors, made millions of euros in kickbacks and inflated commissions-on-sales, by recommending these inappropriate suppliers.
*It is alleged that Sanchez implemented covid response policies, as suggested by these corrupt advisors, to maximize the consumption of masks and testers, to increase the amount spent on these supply contracts. This in turn, resulted in greater kickbacks to the plotters of this conspiracy.
*As more is learned, it appears that some regional gov’ts, primarily those under PSOE control, may have participated in these schemes, some just following orders, others actively involved in profiting from the scam. Some observers suggest that portions of these illegally gained funds were converted into campaign contributions, encouraging key politicians to turn a blind eye to the operation. -Ed.

After the arrest of 19 people on 21 February, among them the former advisor to the former Transport Minister and MP José Luis Ábalos, Koldo García {pic}, the appearance of actors related to and/or implicated in the case continues unabated.
– While the judge of the Audiencia Nacional Ismael Moreno investigates alleged irregular commissions for the awarding of contracts for masks during the coronavirus pandemic, the Public Prosecutor’s Office suspects that it is a “criminal organisation” that was in charge of obtaining public contracts through the company Soluciones de Gestión y Apoyo a Empresas and that Koldo García was paid to “mediate and obtain” awards to later “hide these payments” and avoid their traceability.
– The Public Prosecutor’s Office believes that Koldo García, who is already free with precautionary measures and who refused to testify before the judge, provided the company Soluciones de Gestión y Apoyo a las Empresas with information on the processes of awarding health material and mediated in order to obtain several contracts.
– In exchange, the investigators suspect that Koldo received payments and focus on his increase in assets of 1.5 million euros in two years and his attempt, allegedly, to hide it through relatives such as his wife, daughter or brother, also under investigation. Specifically, his one-year-old baby received a gift of 90,000 euros in cash and was the owner of a property in Benidorm. And Koldo is just one of the 19 people arrested so far. The First Examples Of The New Rent Controls, Some Properties Will Be Discounted 60% From Asking Price!:

High season for Malaga beaches extended to eight months of the year:
– The high season period on Malaga beaches will now be extended from March to October, the city council has announced. From Friday (1 March), some 30 maintenance workers will begin inspecting the public toilets, walkways, railings and showers of the beaches.
– The move cuts out any mid-season and leaves just November to February as the low season, when beaches often get major maintenance works done in preparation for the spring and summer. Terrorist Red Army Faction (RAF) Resurfaces in Berlin:
– Suspected far-left terrorists are being hunted by heavily armed German police this morning (Sunday 3/3) plunging parts of the capital Berlin into lockdown after gunfire was heard during early morning raids. Images from the last few hours show specialist anti-terror teams raiding properties linked to the Red Army Faction (RAF) in the Berlin-Friedrichshain areas with two properties being searched. Local news reports say two men, believed to be RAF former members Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg, have been arrested. Police are yet to formally identify the suspects.
– On Thursday last week a grenade and other weapons were found in searches of the Berlin apartment where a suspected former member of the left-wing militant group was arrested. Authorities said later Thursday that the objects found in the searches also included explosives, various type of ammunition and firearms, including a Kalashnikov, a machine pistol and a handgun with ammunition.
– Daniela Klette, 65, was arrested on Monday afternoon. While much about her whereabouts in the past 30 years remains unclear, she apparently had been living in the German capital under a false name for some time.
Klette is accused of participating in a string of robberies between 1999 and 2016, after the Red Army Faction was disbanded. She is suspected of robbery and attempted murder together with two other suspected ex-members of the group, Staub and Garweg.
– The Red Army Faction, which emerged from German student protests against the Vietnam War, killed 34 people and injured hundreds of others. Festivalillo- rural cultural event in Almáchar:
Sunday, 3 March
– The rural festival presents an extensive programme of cultural content that includes musical performances, recitals and meetings of writers from Malaga, gastronomy, wheel songs (canciones de rueda), screenings, theatre and face painting aimed at the youngest members of the family.
– At 13.45 there will be music from the 80’s and 90’s by Dj Lú as well as tastings by the bodegas Niño de la Salina of vermouth from the cooperative Cristo de la Banda Verde and ajoblanco provided by Almáchar Town Hall.
– At 15.00 there will be a musical selection ‘Guateque’ by Dj Cañá.
– At 16.30 hours, the Grupo de Canciones de Rueda de Almáchar will start performing and the end of the festival (from 18.00 to 19.00 hours) will be provided by dj Petarda.

Most reservoirs of Andalusia gain water for the sixth consecutive week and are 24.4 per cent of their capacity:

– Andalusian reservoirs have a total of 2,701 hm3, which is 29 hm3 more than the previous week and 0.26% of the total capacity of the region’s reservoirs. Thus, the water reserve is at 24.4%, a difference of 4.3 percentage points compared to the previous year, when, with 3,186 hm3, it was at 28.7%.
– For their part, the reservoirs of the Tinto, Odiel and Piedras in Huelva have gained water to 177 hm3, with their reserve at 77.3% of their capacity, and the Guadalete-Barbate reservoirs in Cadiz, have also gained water compared to last week, with 283 hm3, and standing at 17.1%.

Swimming pool confusion on the Costa amid ongoing drought crisis- will they be in use this summer?:
– Communities of homeowners on the Costa del Sol are facing a regulatory nightmare when it comes to the opening of their swimming pools amid the drought crisis in the south of Spain, claiming regulations are still unclear.
– The problem lies in the Junta de Andalucía’s drought decree and the town councils’ restrictions on water usage, which contradict each other, according to president of Malaga association of property administrators Manuel Jiménez Caro.
– Many municipalities authorise the use of water tanks for refilling swimming pools, which in practice allows them to open; but at this point the technical sanitary decree of the Junta de Andalucía in 2019 comes into play, which states that this water must be treated beforehand, in a holding tank separate from the pool; or in the pool itself, which means having to close it for two to three days in the middle of summer.
– Already, in some areas, public water companies are removing or sealing the supply meters to pools, as is happening in Rincón de la Victoria and Benalmádena. In these cases, in practice, the pool would not be allowed to be used as the regulations state it is compulsory for there to be running water in toilets and showers.
– In Malaga city, topping up is limited to the use of non-potable water (by means of tankers), but the meters have not been removed. In several coastal municipalities there is already a warning that tampering with seals will be reported to the Seprona (the environmental branch of the Guardia Civil), while in Malaga city fines range from 6,000 euros.
– Along the coast it is not known how the rules will affect the communities that have their own wells or if they decide to use sea water, which is another option that is being considered. MALAGA PROVINCE

The hidden, free to access natural spa in Malaga province fed by warm sulphurous water gushing from the ground:
– A small spa pool fed by warm, healing, sulphurous waters coming from the ground can be found just a stone’s throw from the town of Periana in Malaga province’s Axarquía area.
– The source for the Baños de Vilo, is supplied from a nearby spring like many other natural spas that can be found in the Andalucía region. It is believed by many that the mineral content of the water can help treat some skin conditions, while another curious feature of the spa is that the water temperature remains at a steady 21C, regardless of the time of the year.
– Even now a small stream of water continues to flow from the spring, which does not seem to run dry despite the persistent drought plaguing Malaga province. The site is free to access and relatively easy to find, although given how small the space is, it quickly fills up with people. The spa pool is just one metre deep and two metres wide. The stone construction around the pool is striking and even provides a certain degree of privacy. There is also a small bridge that facilitates access on foot and crosses the small Zapata stream, a tributary of the Guaro river.
– The Baños de Vilo once had up to five pools with a capacity of up to 30 people. Today only one remains, which barely holds four or five people. In spite of being far away from that splendour, the site is in a very good condition.

A man dies when a palm tree falls on him in Frigiliana: {Translation, summary}

Fake ‘doctor’ arrested after allegedly treating patients on Costa del Sol for more than 30 years:
– A fake ‘doctor ‘who treated people for more than 30 years and allegedly swindled two of them out of 300,000 euros has been arrested in Rincón de la Victoria, on the eastern strip of the Costa del Sol in Malaga province.
– The 56-year-old who practised out of his house in Torre de Benagalbón was arrested by Guardia Civil police after officers discovered he had been treating people, without any qualifications. Police started investigating the case in January after two patients of the fake medical professional filed complaints after they had been fleeced of 240,000 and 80,000 euros following treatments.
– Appointments would last about 30 minutes, with the fake doctor using alternative medicine such as special herbs during treatments, police said. He would tell patients he taught pathological anatomy at the University of Granada, which police confirmed to be not true. Likewise, police verified that he used a stamp on his reports in which he stated that he was a rehabilitation doctor and his membership number, also false.
– The College of Physicians recommends that members of the public, if in doubt, check whether the medical professional treating them is licensed. Police arrest fake shaman who tricked women in Marbella into working as prostitutes in ‘prison-like’ conditions:
– A man who purported to be a shaman has been arrested for allegedly recruiting vulnerable women, who didn’t have official papers, as prostitutes in Marbella.
– A woman who allegedly managed the brothel where they worked was also arrested in El Ejido in Almería province in Andalucía. SUR can confirm the male suspect, of Cuban origin, met the women – who were mostly young and South American – in Marbella and gained their trust by convincing them he had found them work in Almeria.
– But the detained man was an alleged pimp and at least 13 women realised they had been hired instead to work as prostitutes, according to investigators. Once there, they were locked up in a flat that functioned as a brothel and were forced to prostitute themselves. They lived in prison-like conditions where they were forced to stay 24 hours a day and constantly available for clients, police said. The alleged suspect threatened to hurt them or their families through esoteric rituals if the women protested, according to police investigators.
– Victims also did not have the freedom to turn down clients who asked for sex, and also were not allowed to decline clients even if they wanted to have sex without protection, according to investigators. The 13 women who worked at the brothel had to take turns sleeping on a couple of sofas while the rooms were reserved for sex.

EU poised to OK major plan to meet European Green Deal climate goals and better protect nature despite farmer protests:

– The DNI is one of the most important, relevant and useful documents for a person. Not only does it allow a person’s parentage to be attested, but it also opens up the possibility of carrying out numerous operations. That is why the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) warns that scanning or photocopying the DNI, a typical practice in hotels, banks or even public bodies, should not be allowed.
– According to the AEPD, for any procedure it is sufficient to show it, but it is never essential to photocopy, scan or similar. To confirm a person’s identity, it would be enough to show it and, in the case of an online transaction, it can be done by showing it via webcam or sending a video with the physical document in hand.
– The vast majority of establishments and organisations that ask for a copy of the ID card do not use it for pernicious or criminal purposes, but as a way of attesting to the identity of the potential customer or consumer. However, the possibility of personal data being used for potential scams makes it necessary that the DNI should be kept with much greater care.
– The AEPD is clear: “improper use (of the DNI) or use without sufficient guarantees can have multiple unfavourable effects for the holder of the data”. There are countless examples in which DNI data can end up being used for criminal purposes: from applying for credit in someone else’s name, to making duplicate credit cards, hacking accounts or requesting information of all kinds. In short: they can be used to commit identity theft crimes.
– That is why the basic recommendation is to use “less burdensome measures that serve the purpose of identification, it is advisable to refrain” from photocopying the ID card. This is not just a recommendation: Article 5 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation states that the use of data must be “adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed”.
– What is the fine for photocopying ID cards? It is not only a recommendation, but the AEPD establishes a series of fines for the misuse of a person’s personal data collected in a DNI. The fines vary according to the seriousness of the events. The highest fine imposed so far in Spain was 100,000 euros, which was imposed on Orange in March 2023 because one of its couriers took a photograph of both sides of the DNI to deliver its parcels.

Here Comes The New Rent Control- Government prepares the coup de grace to the rental market from March, intends to decide the rental price for each area within each locality and each province: {Translation}

Rodríguez announced that before the end of February the Rental Reference Price Index will be ready for the declaration of stressed areas, and will begin to be operational at the beginning of next month as a tool for controlling prices.
– This index will be applied to large tenants and landlords entering into a rental contract for the first time, within the stressed areas that have been requested by the autonomous communities.
– “There is the paradox that some communities do not want to apply tensioned zones, but there are mayors and mayoresses who are asking for them to be applied”, she pointed out. Rodríguez stressed that Catalonia is the first community that wants to apply the declaration of a tensioned zone with “immediacy” and has requested it for 140 municipalities, and stressed that the technicians of both administrations have shared the methodology to give a “correct” response to the market.
– Rodríguez’s main objective, she says, is to ensure that any citizen can have access to housing with less than 30% of their income and has drawn attention to the situation in cities such as Madrid, where “not even with 100% of one’s salary can one pay a rent”.
– The vicious circle of rent price control. The problem is that the price of rents has shot up, not because of the voracity of landlords, but because of the government’s own intention to control prices, as well as the overprotection of tenants, homeless people and, most definitely, squatters.
– Not surprisingly, since Sánchez has been in office, the supply of rented housing has fallen by more than 30%. This is a huge slump, which has been accompanied by a growing demand for this type of real estate.
– The lack of legal certainty has been one of the keys. So has price intervention. Between 2022 and 2023 alone, the inability of landlords to raise prices to their tenants by more than 2% has led to 23% of supply being withdrawn while prices have risen by nearly 15% and are still rising.

Poverty doubles to a new historic peak under Sánchez’s government: {Translation, summary}
– Neither “social shield” nor “government of the people”. These are the failed slogans used by the PSOE government in recent years, that have not translated into greater material well-being for a large part of the Spanish population, quite the contrary. In fact, poverty, far from being reduced, has increased substantially under Pedro Sánchez’s mandate.
– This is reflected in the Living Conditions Survey 2023 published on Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The percentage of the population with severe material deprivation rose from 8.1% to 8.9% last year, reaching a new all-time high, surpassing even the high rates recorded during the last financial crisis.
– This concept analyses specific variables: not being able to afford to go on holiday at least once a year; not eating meat, chicken or fish every other day; not being able to meet unforeseen expenses; not being able to keep the home at an adequate temperature; suffering delays in the payment of expenses related to the main home (mortgage or rent, gas bills, community fees…) or in instalment purchases in the last 12 months; and not being able to afford a car. In essence, what it reflects is a situation of severe economic hardship.
– And the key is that severe poverty in Spain (suffering from four of the six concepts considered) has almost doubled since 2019, when Sánchez’s last term of office began, since then the rate was 4.7%. Likewise, 19.2% of those surveyed suffer from at least three of these deprivations, up from the previous maximum recorded in 2014.
– When analysing the factors that determine “severe material and social deprivation”, it is worth noting that 37.1% of households are unable to meet unforeseen expenses (compared to 35.5% in 2022) or that 33.1% could not afford to go on holiday away from home for at least one week a year (0.4 points less than the previous year). Almost 30% cannot replace damaged or old furniture; 20.7% cannot keep their home at the right temperature; and 13.6% have had delays in paying for housing-related expenses or instalment purchases. Likewise, 9.3% of the population said that it was “very difficult” to make ends meet in 2023 (0.6 points more than in the previous year).
– Finally, the Autonomous Regions with the highest at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rates were Andalusia (37.5%), the Canary Islands (33.8%), Extremadura (32.8%), Castile-La Mancha (31.7%) and Murcia (30.5%). The lowest, on the other hand, are in the Basque Country (15.5%) and Navarre (17.2%). – Mercedes-Benz is scrapping its plans to only sell electric vehicles after 2030 as consumer demand for EVs remains lower than what automakers projected.

Why do we celebrate Andalusia Day every February 28?: {Translation}
– This day commemorates the referendum that took place in 1980, which gave Andalusia full autonomy within the Spanish state. But why was this date chosen, what significance does it have for the history and identity of Andalusia, and what activities are carried out to celebrate this day?
– Andalusia Day has its origins in the process of democratic transition that began in Spain after the death of the dictator Francisco Franco in 1975. In this context, the different regions of the country demanded their recognition as historical nationalities and their right to political autonomy. Andalusia was no exception, and on 4 December 1977, more than one and a half million people took to the streets of the eight Andalusian provinces to demand full autonomy for their land. That historic day, known as 4-D, had a tragic ending with the death of the young Malaga-born Manuel José García Caparrós {pic}. Unarmed and attempting to place a “banned” Andalucia Flag atop the building of the Provincial Council of Malaga, he was shot and killed by the police. His figure became a symbol of the Andalusian people’s struggle for autonomy.
– That popular mobilisation gave impetus to Andalusia’s autonomy process, which was based on Article 151 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978, which established the quickest and broadest procedure for achieving autonomy. However, this procedure required the autonomy referendum to be approved by an absolute majority of the electoral roll in each province, which was a major challenge. Finally, on 28 February 1980, Andalusians went to the polls to decide their future. The result was in favour of autonomy in all provinces, except in Almería, where it fell just a few votes short of an absolute majority. Despite this setback, the Congress of Deputies passed a law that allowed the incorporation of Almería into the autonomous process, and on 20 October 1981 the first Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia was approved.
– The Day of Andalusia is a festival that celebrates the will and awareness of the Andalusian people to be an autonomous community with its own personality, history, culture and values. It is a day to vindicate the Andalusian identity, which has been forged over the centuries with the contribution of the different civilisations that have passed through its territory, such as the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Jews and Christians. It is a day to recognise the diversity and richness of Andalusia, which is expressed in its landscapes, monuments, traditions, gastronomy, art, music and language. It is a day to remember Andalusia’s contribution to the progress and well-being of Spain and humanity, through its illustrious figures, such as Blas Infante, the father of the Andalusian homeland, or Federico García Lorca, the universal poet.
– Andalusia Day is also a festival that celebrates democracy and citizen participation, which were key to achieving autonomy. It is a day to reaffirm the commitment of Andalusian men and women to the values of freedom, equality, solidarity and justice, which inspire the Statute of Autonomy. Germany’s parliament votes to legalize limited marijuana possession and allow ‘cannabis clubs’:
– German lawmakers on Friday approved a government plan to liberalize rules on cannabis, paving the way for the country to decriminalize limited amounts of marijuana and allow members of “cannabis clubs” to buy it for recreational purposes.
– Parliament’s lower house, or Bundestag, backed the legislation, a prominent reform project of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s socially liberal governing coalition, by 407 votes to 226. There were four abstentions.
– The bill foresees legalizing possession by adults of up to 25 grams (nearly 1 ounce) of marijuana for recreational purposes and allowing individuals to grow up to three plants on their own. That part of the legislation is supposed to take effect on April 1.
– German residents who are 18 and older would be allowed to join nonprofit “cannabis clubs” with a maximum 500 members each, starting July 1. The clubs would be allowed to grow cannabis for members’ personal consumption. – The safe use of ibuprofen 400 mg is being questioned following recent measures in France and concerns expressed by the Spanish Consumers and Users Organisation (OCU). Alarm has been raised after French authorities detected a significant increase in cases of serious adverse effects, leading to a ban on the advertising of this widely consumed and readily available over-the-counter medicine.
– The OCU has made an urgent appeal to the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) to launch a thorough investigation to determine whether a similar phenomenon to the French one is occurring in Spain. The concern stems from increased reports of gastrointestinal bleeding and kidney damage associated with excessive consumption of ibuprofen 400 mg, a dose that is currently available without restriction in Spanish pharmacies.

Surgical waiting lists in Andalucía soar due to anaesthetist shortage: {Translation}

VAT on electricity will rise from 10% to 21% in March for millions of Spaniards: {Translation}
– The small print, whether it is a private contract or a law, sometimes hides unpleasant surprises. And this seems to be the case of the temporary tax reduction approved by the government to reduce the price of electricity as a result of the sharp rise in energy prices in 2022 and part of 2023.

Spain is the worst managed economy in Europe- the ranking of shame: {Translation}
– The Economic Management Indicator (EMI) of the Juan de Mariana Institute (IJM) measures the performance of the twenty-seven economies of the European Union (EU27) on the basis of five study categories: GDP growth, job creation, moderation of the tax burden, improvement in household purchasing power and control of public debt.
– This metric aims to reflect the evolution of the different EU economies over the last five years (2019-2023), so it can be interpreted as a ranking that assesses which countries have been better or worse managed in a complex period, marked by the coronavirus pandemic.
– If we measure GDP growth between 2019 and 2023, we find that the average evolution of Spanish production shows a timid increase of 3.3 points. This places us at number 22 in the European ranking, with a GDP evolution that is more than 50% below the European average, which describes an increase of 5.6 points for the same five years analysed.
– As for the labour market, the study stresses that 90% of the reduction in official unemployment observed between 2019 and 2023 is explained by the government’s statistical make-up, seen for example through the reclassification of permanent contracts. Thus, when we measure actual unemployment, we find that the fall in unemployment recorded in Spain between 2019 and 2023 was barely 1.4%, which places us in a mediocre 18th place on the list. Greece has been the country with the best results in terms of unemployment reduction. Despite this, the vice-president of Pedro Sánchez’s government and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, has criticised the labour reforms introduced by the Hellenic country.
– The tax burden has risen by 2.9 points of GDP between 2019 and 2023, from 35.4% to 38.3% of GDP. Spain is the second country in the EU-27 with the highest increase in taxes for the period analysed, behind only Cyprus. The EU average shows a rise of just 0.1 points of GDP, with thirteen member countries having reduced their tax burden and another seven having increased it very moderately. Therefore, the taxation path observed in Spain is a clear departure from the patterns observed in the Old Continent and shows that taxpayers in Spain have experienced a full-blown “fiscal explosion”.
– If we measure per capita income in purchasing power parity, we find that this indicator falls by -5.5% from 2019 to 2023 in the case of Spain. This plunge explains why the income gap between Spain and the European average has grown from 9 to 14 percentage points. The best performer in this area is Ireland, while the worst performer in the table is France.
– The weight of public debt as a percentage of GDP has risen moderately in the EU-27, with a rise of 3.3 points between 2019 and 2023. In contrast, Spain has seen a rise of 10.8 points, three times the EU average. In 2023, public debt rose at a rate of 165 million per day. In fact, throughout Pedro Sánchez’s term of office, for every 1 euro increase in GDP, 2 euros of public debt have been issued.

Carnival of Torre del Mar: 23, 24 & 25 February.
– Friday 23 February, in the building of the Centro Cultural Nuestra Señora del Carmen Antigua Azucarera, we will have different activities. Firstly, the election of the Dios Momo, Diosa del Carnaval and Ninfas with a parade to choose these carnival figures. From 21:15, the Carnival Proclamation will be given. The event will be enlivened by local carnival groups and will end at 23:15 with a great performance by the Chirigota del Sheriff, from Cádiz.
– Saturday the parade will take place and, as always, registration will take place from 16:00 onwards on the ground floor of Ipanema. As for the route, it will leave as usual from the Paseo de Larios, Calle San Martín, Ros Alférez, Acequia, Calle Angustias, Calle del Mar, Paseo Marítimo, Avenida Toré, Calle Copo, Duque de Ahumada, Infantes, Calle Princesa, Avenida de Andalucía and return to the Paseo de Larios.
– Sunday we will have two stages, one on the Paseo de Larios and another on the Paseo Marítimo de Poniente, where different local performances will take place during the morning. Video Link

Farmers take to the streets of Malaga in a bid for survival:

Farmer Protest Update For Wednesday in the Malaga Region: {Translation}

Overworked Doctors & Patients Dying Of Neglect- Both Screwed By The Mismanagement Of The Andalucian Health Service (SAS) – New Doctors Promised More Than 14 Months Ago Still Not Here, Promises Of Temp-Worker Short-term Contracts Being Converted To Long-term Ignored Plus Other Failures: {Translation}
– The population of Malaga is growing and ageing, which means that there is a demand for more care. However, the health centres are not receiving the doctors promised by the Regional Ministry of Health or the replacements needed to cover sick leave, leave of absence, retirements and reductions in working hours. The consequences are overwhelmed professionals and patients who take longer to get an appointment. The situation has been denounced this Tuesday by the Malaga Medical Union (SMM), which has demanded “an immediate increase” in staffing levels to bring them into line with the demographic reality.
– The organisation pointed out that almost 40 primary care doctors promised at the end of 2022 by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) for the Malaga-Guadalhorce district have still not arrived. There are 33 family doctors and five paediatricians to unload the most saturated health centres. But they are still pending. For the president of the SMM, Antonio Martín, “it is negligence” on the part of the Administration as it means recognising the lack of resources without the agreed solutions being put into practice.
– In fact, he pointed out that the positions have been created, but no doctors have been assigned to them. Martín stressed that the work that these newly created quotas were going to take on “continues to be absorbed by the professionals who are there”. In its report on Tuesday – in which the SMM focused on the area of Malaga and Guadalhorce – the organisation acknowledged the “great efforts” of this district to reduce the number of unreplaced absences. “However, there are still many vacancies to be replaced and there is no confirmation as to when the promised new quotas will be created,” Bernal said. In addition, he demanded “100% substitution” so that the staff is always full.

Thermometers will reach a warm maximum of 24C on Thursday before plummeting eight degrees by Friday:

– Aqualia, the company that manages the Municipal Water Service of Vélez-Málaga, has informed this Monday that “due to the renovation works on the water pipeline that runs along the coast, it is necessary to suspend the supply on Wednesday 21 February to connect the new supply network with the existing one”. Specifically, the supply will be suspended from 05.00 am to 19.00 pm in the areas bordering the coast of Benajarafe, Chilches and Almayate. – The improvement work on the supply network, located on a section of the old N-340 road at Valle-Niza, consists of the renovation of 80 metres of 300 mm cast iron network. This will protect the section from the advance of the sea in the area.

– In addition to its popular travel programme, the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) has a thermalism programme for the elderly, which allows elderly people and beneficiaries of Imserso grants to take part in these thermal tourism initiatives, visiting thermal baths and spas all over the country.
