For Sale: Wood effect laminate flooring € 50 ono. Good quality click joint system, as sold in Bauhaus – http://www.bauhaus.es/suelos/laminados/laminado-ac4-32-pinie-narvik/p/20205487 -This flooring is 2nd hand but looks as new. We bought it for temporary flooring which we’ve now replaced with tiles. We are using some of this same flooring now ourselves in our daughters bedroom (see photo) and it’s click system is faultless. We would use it all but there isn’t enough. There are 84 full boards (20m2) and about 30 long offcuts with about 20 short offcuts giving about an extra 4 to 5m2. The new price is €8.49 per m2. They are always looking for ways to keep users on the site longer, because more time on their site is more advertising income. An overall increase of just 0.24% in viewer “watch time” equates to tens of millions of dollars.

Sounds Like Jazz Hits Torrevieja: A wide spectrum of different styles of jazz will be enjoyed by many when the second Torrevieja Sounds like Jazz cycle hits the town for four great evenings.

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #78
-Windows 10 v1803 support ends on November 12. That means no more security updates. You won’t want to do any banking, shopping or emails on a unit not receiving security updates. To check your version type WINVER in the search box, then click on WINVER at the top of the search results box. An info box will open with your version info. You should be on v1903. If you are on v1809 you are still OK but should update to v1903 soon.
If you are on v1803 or earlier you need to update asap. To to so, make sure you are on a good quality internet connection, updating on a campo WiMax connection doesn’t always work. Open Settings/Updates and click “Check for updates”. Let it install all updates it finds, then restart computer. Repeat this updating procedure until you get the No More Updates Available message. If this process has not got you caught up to v1903 then you have an Updater problem of some sort. Necessary prerequisites for your next update may be missing. You may be able to fix this by running a “Error Check” on your System partition, then retry updating.
If that fails, or is above your user level, bring it in for a Maintenance Servicing, updating everything to current is part of the service.

A hacker has taken over the computer system of the southern Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera (by encrypting the contents. -Ed.) and is demanding a ransom paid in bitcoin to unlock it, local officials said Friday. The cyber attack, which has caused outages of services offered through the city’s website, began on Tuesday night, a municipal spokesman told AFP.

Sunday Eucharist Services
Almuñécar
9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.

OLIVER! Is coming to The Salon Varietes Theater!:

9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.

Costa Animal Society: Ladies and Germs, The Costa Animal Society is pleased to announce that our annual dog show Scruffs will be held on Sunday 13 October from 12:00 – 3:00pm in the Plaza de España in Nerja. Registration of dogs in one or more of 12 categories begins at 10:30am.
A few stalls still available!
Unloading will begin at 10:00 directly onto the Plaza de España just beside the Balcón de Europa. Two standard-sized tables and four chairs are provided though table coverings are not. The event will be inside the pavilion erected for the annual Nerja feria so there is no need for umbrellas, awnings or sun glasses. (In the event of inclement weather, the rain date will be the following Sunday 20 October though by then the pavilion will have been taken away.)
The price for the stall is only €10 which of course is a donation to

Dog Academy Agility Group meets every Saturday Morning for a couple of hours ‘Fun In The Sun’ with our Doggy friends. All dogs love Agility, It is in their nature to run, jump and dive. An added bonus is that you become a little fitter whilst enjoying the company of your ‘Best Friend’. We are a long established, friendly group of like minded, canine enthusiasts who love to meet new, like minded people & their dogs.
Sessions cost 10€ per dog, and are held in a purpose built, dog friendly arena at our home which is fully fenced with ample shade and water.
Clear help & instruction will be given along with warm encouragement from other members and their dogs.

For Sale: 100% Organic Compost. Fall is a great time to use compost when putting in new plantings for spring blooms, topping up existing gardens and mulching around trees and bushes for overwintering.
Organic Compost helps feed plants with micro-nutrients in a form that is slow in release and most natural for plants to uptake. The humus (fibre) content provides roots with an environment that is easier to grow in by creating a lighter soil which maintains more moisture with better drainage. Micro-organisms, which are beneficial to plants, are attracted to these areas and work to the added health of a garden.
This compost is a careful and through blend of horse manure, chicken manure and natural organic matter, with absolutely no chemical additives such as herbicides, pesticides or other toxic waste. All the components are completely broken down through decomposition to create a clean, non odorous, friable mix that it completely safe to use around home, garden and lawn.

3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana: One more year, in the unique setting such as Frigiliana, one of “The most beautiful villages in Spain”, more than 50 artists from 12 different nationalities will show their works in the 34 locations that you will discover along your walk through the picturesque white streets. From the 4th to the 6th of October 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organized by Maribel Martín and Brendon Taylor (Studio-gallery AMARTE) in collaboration with the Town Hall of Frigiliana.
Among the particularities of this edition, it requires a special mention, the posthumous tribute to Soledad Platero Sánchez (1995-2019) in LOCALIZATION Nº14, where along with her posthumous work, will be the initiative A DAFFODIL FOR SOLEDAD, charitable proposal to raise funds for research against cancer, in general and sarcoma, in particular.
We also want to highlight our Photocall, thanks to which you can be part of the 3rd Ruta del Arte Frigiliana, as a spectator and as a creator. Afternoon Quiz and Art Exhibition: There will be an Afternoon Quiz on Thursday 3rd October at 3pm in the usual place, El Pozuelo, Laguna Beach. To find the bar go through the central big arches, turn right, down the side of the SH Gestion offices and you will find El Pozuelo round the back, between the hairdressers and the supermarket. Our quizmaster will be Carole.
El Pozuelo is in a delightful position facing the gardens and the owner, Encarni, is a brilliant artist who has recently had an exhibition in the Torrox Costa town hall. Her paintings are now back in the bar and for sale as well as some by other artists (namely me), and hopefully they will be hung by Thursday in time for the quiz.

Wood Fired Oven Cookery Course – Saturday 19th October:
Join us in a superb mountain location in the Alpujarras for a full one day wood fired oven cookery course. Great ‘hands on’ experience using a large wood fired oven. New Red Cross initiative for Memory Stimulation: Memory stimulation course
Are you aged over 65?
Would you be interested in activities to keep your mind healthy?
Would you appreciate practical tips, for example about living in Spain?
Would you like to meet other English speakers and share experiences?
If you answered yes to these questions then the sessions might be suitable for you.
The activities are designed to help sharpen your memory, response time and logic skills. They will also provide you with practical information, for example about:
Using new technology like smartphones
Local Spanish culture and lifestyle
Living in Spain
If this sounds like it’s for you, or you know anyone who would benefit from this, please get in touch.
We can coordinate lift sharing or, under certain circumstances, we may be able to provide transport if it would otherwise be a barrier to attendance.
The sessions will be held weekly from 11:00 – 12:30 on a Wednesday morning in the Red Cross office in Vélez-Málaga. The office is just off the A-356 at the roundabout next to the La Palma Garden Centre.

John Illsley of Dire Straits: Wednesday 9th October at Paris 15, Calle la Orotava, Malága. As one of the founding band members, with guitarist brothers Mark and David Knopfler, and drummer Pick Withers, Illsley played a role in the development of Dire Straits’ sound. By the time the group disbanded in 1995 changes in personnel meant that Illsley and lead singer Mark Knopfler were the only two original band members remaining. Illsley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Dire Straits in 2018.

Cyclists rescue gigantic buck by its horns: When a cycling club in Granada, Spain, passed by a deer in desperate need of help, the brave bikers stepped right in to assist the drowning animal. The area had been hit by deadly flash flooding earlier in the month, and somehow the deer had gotten caught in one of the leftover puddles. The group was able to use a rope tied around the buck’s antlers to pull up the frightened buck far enough for it to get its hooves on the ground. It then bolted into the forest. None of the bikers was injured.

 

Polish ham from Travelez?: Consumer association Facua has filed a complaint against a international food distributor saying it is passing off Polish grown and produced ham as Spanish gourmet jamon.
It says that Comapa is selling the polish imposter product under the brand Trevedul, seeking to relate it to the town of Trevelez in Granada, which is famous for its hams that sell at a high premium.
The brand is widely distributed in Malaga province supermarkets.

DoctorLaptop’s Computer News: Microsoft Finally Admits The Existence of Fileless Malware Hijacking Windows Computers. I have been warning clients about this malware for 2 years but Microsoft is only now addressing the problem.
The malware has been designed to turn infected Windows computers into proxies, which according to Microsoft, can then be used by attackers as a relay to hide illegal on-line activities; meanwhile Cisco Talos Security believes the proxies are used for click-fraud to generate revenue (fake clicks) for attackers who make false click count claims to advertising firms who pay for the artificially inflated totals.
The malware typically targets individual users (97% of detections), yet the Microsoft proposed solution is only available to their business clients (3% of detections). Microsoft logic confounds again! Common consumer level, signature based antivirus programs do not detect this kind of infection, even those with Passive heuristics analysis. There are specialized tools with advanced Active heuristics available to technicians to detect and remove this malware. These tools take a very long time to do their job as they must first observe the operating system running for a while to create a legit activity “baseline”, after which it can detect improper activity in action by spotting anomalous and malicious behaviors, such as the execution of scripts and tools. If you believe you have something in your computer accessing the internet other than your personal activity this malware is a possibility.

Dating Site Scam- FTC Lawsuit Says Match.com Lured Subscribers With Fake Love Messages: Match.com “used fake love interest advertisements to trick hundreds of thousands of consumers into purchasing paid subscriptions.” The FTC sued Match Group, which owns Match.com, Tinder, OKCupid, PlentyOfFish, and other dating sites. According to an FTC statement, up to 30 percent of the users who register for Match.com every day are there to perpetrate scams. These include “romance scams, phishing schemes, fraudulent advertising, and extortion scams.”
If indeed this goes to trial, it will be interesting to see how it plays out, but it will probably be settled out of court and Match.com will promise to clean up it’s act. In the meanwhile, if you have a free Match.com profile and you get a message suggesting that you subscribe because someone is interested in you–as with all online services–think carefully before you punch in that credit card number.

Listeria Outbreak Justice: Owners of the food company responsible for Spain’s worst ever listeriosis outbreak arrested for manslaughter. Investigators say the three men knew that their products had tested positive for listeria but did nothing to get rid of the bacteria.
Since August, the outbreak has killed three people, caused seven miscarriages, and infected more than 200 people. The source of the bacterial infection was traced to a Seville-based company called Magrudis, which sold a contaminated pork loin product called carne mechada under the brand name La Mechá. Three more products produced by the company also tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

Spain will remove rights for British residents post-Brexit if the UK does not reciprocate: Spain is demanding reciprocity from the United Kingdom in one of the most sensitive aspects of Brexit: treatment of its migrants. The Spanish government has urgently passed legislation in order to protect the rights of the 365,967 Britons who are officially resident in the country, but has yet to see similar mechanisms put in place in the United Kingdom for the Spaniards who have made that country their home. The caretaker foreign minister, Josep Borrell, has already conveyed this concern to the British government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and has warned that, if there is no equivalent move from the UK as the country leaves the European Union, the Spanish framework for British residents will decline.
The UK’s current Brexit minister, Steve Barclay, met last week in Madrid with Spain’s caretaker Foreign Minister Josep Borrell. The rights of citizens, one of the most symbolic elements of Brexit, were a key part of the debate. Barclay expressed his gratitude for the law that had been approved by Spain, which is the country of choice for the majority of Britons who opt to live in the EU. But Borrell warned the minister that these advantageous conditions will only be maintained if they are reciprocal, a standpoint about which the British delegation requested clarifications.
“We have told them that our royal decree will ensure that everything remains the same in the case of a no-deal Brexit,” said Luis Marco Aguiriano, Spain’s secretary of state for the EU, and who took part in the meeting with the British minister last Thursday. Speaking to EL PAÍS via telephone, he added: “But for that, reciprocity is necessary. And reciprocity cannot be guaranteed in half-measures – it is either there, or it isn’t.”

Sunday Eucharist Services
Almuñécar
9.30 am – Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (The Fishermen’s Chapel). This small chapel is situated towards the western end of the beach and set back near the Chinasol Hotel and seafront. There is a Eucharist every Sunday from November through to March, and there is a Eucharist service on every alternative Sunday (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in April, May, September and October). There are no services during the hot summer months of June, July and August.
Nerja
12.00 noon – Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza Andalucía. There is a Eucharist service at this time throughout the year. The church is within easy walking distance of the first large roundabout as you drive into town from the Malaga direction, by the bus station.
