– At 5pm, the Plaza del Prado in Villanueva del Trabuco will receive the singer María Cortés.
– At 9pm, a new event from the musical poetic cycle ‘Ladies at Night’ will be held in the courtyard of the Vélez-Málaga Museum. The poet Raquel Lanseros, last year’s winner of the Generation of ’27 International Poetry Prize, will read a selection of her work. Along with her, María Jesús Mingot and Neko Vidal will offer poetic readings. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Duo Anne and Juan Rodrigo.
– At 10pm, the music will continue in Alozaina with Macarena Albarracín {Video Link}, who will perform her ‘Historia de una copla’ in the María Sagredo de Alozaina viewpoint park.

– 8pm, the singer Rocío Bazán. It will be at 8:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Guaro.

Torrox celebrates Tourist Day: Saturday, September 14
At the viewpoint on Avenida del Faro
Includes activities such as guided tours, snorkeling, family workshops, a tourist train and a large fireworks display.

– 9:00 am, a guided tour of the historic centre of the town for a maximum of 30 people.
– On the coast, at 9:30 a.m., there will be a snorkelling route in the area of the shipwreck ‘El Delfín, known as “El Barco del Arroz”, also for a maximum of 30 people.
– In addition, between 11:00 and 13:00 there will be a family mosaic workshop in the Interpretation Centre of El Faro de Torrox Costa for 15 participants.
– From 18:00 the tourist train tours will begin.
– At around 19:30, there will be another guided tour, in this case of the archaeological site of El Faro.

September historical re-enactments and festivities in Malaga: {Translation}
– 15th September in Alfarnate, Moors & Christians “La Embajada” Festival. It is part of the patron saint fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, which will take place between 11 and 15 September. On the last day of the festival, the two opposing sides and the abduction of the image of the patron saint will be staged. The name of this re-enactment is due to the fact that in this plot an embassy of Christians will demand the return of the Virgin of Monsalud by reading the text called ‘Las relaciones’, which has been preserved since the 17th century.
– 13 to 15 September in Carratraca, Embrujo Andalusí (Bewitched in Andalusia). Take advantage of this weekend to attend their particular throwback to ancient Al-Andalus through hundreds of lighted candles, a large traditional souk where you can buy handmade products and a wide range of musical, cultural and gastronomic activities.
– 13 to 15 September in Manilva, Assault on the Castillo de la Duquesa. At the 18th century fortress located a few metres from the beach of Manilva. A re-enactment will take place there, the confrontation between French and British troops with the support of the people of Manilva. It takes place on the same stage where the battle took place during the War of Independence.
– 20 to 22 September in Alameda, Life and Death of José María El Tempranillo. The weekend closest to the date of the death of the famous bandit nicknamed El Tempranillo is the one on which the village of Alameda celebrates a historical re-enactment of this peculiar character. That weekend the village that saw him die and where his remains lie will give itself over to the dramatisation of his life and death.
– 20 to 22 September, The Burning of Algarrobo. This village was under serious threat during the War of Independence, which, according to the story, could have ended with the entire town centre burnt to the ground. – 21 September in Casarabonela, Recreación Histórica de la Villa de Casarabonela (Historical Reenactment of the Town of Casarabonela). A dramatisation set in the period of the Moorish revolts of the 16th century.
– 27 to 29 September in Montejaque, The Battle of La Puente. The War of Independence battle that took place in the enclave known as La Puente is remembered, where a group of Serranos commanded by the commander José Aguilar was able to celebrate an epic victory over the troops of the Napoleonic army.

Holiday apartment owners in Spain fined 2,000 euros for insisting guest must send ID via WhatsApp:
– A would-be guest who booked a holiday apartment in Badajoz, Spain, through an accommodation platform was contacted by one of the owners of the establishment requiring him to send a photograph of both sides of his and the others guests’ identification documents via WhatsApp or email. Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano (Victorian Anchovy Festival):
Rincón de la Victoria. Tuesday-Sunday, 3 to 8 Sep.
The programme of activities will include live cooking, tastings of anchovies in the town’s restaurants, a network of catering establishments promoting this product, and the “Sabor a Málaga Fair” with the sale of products from the province, live music and even activities for the little ones.
As is traditional, on 6, 7 and 8 September, there will be free tastings of fried anchovies and anchovies in vinegar in 61 restaurants in the municipality. These tastings will be served for lunch and dinner while stocks last and with a set timetable, from 13:00 to 14:30 and from 20:30 to 22:00. All of them will have a sign on the door to identify participating establishments. Also during these days, the Plaza Al Ándalus will host a marquee where you can taste boquerones en vinagre (anchovies in vinegar) free of charge and during the same hours as in the restaurants.

What Is ‘Model Collapse’? An Expert Explains the Rumors About an Impending AI Doom:
– Short version: AI must be trained on Internet content. As AI fills up more space on the Internet, AI starts training on AI created material, and researchers found that this creates a “model collapse” or “Dumber Loop”- the more AI trains on AI material, the dumber it gets! -Ed.
– Artificial intelligence prophets and newsmongers are forecasting the end of the generative AI hype, with talk of an impending catastrophic “model collapse.” But how realistic are these predictions? And what is model collapse anyway?
– Discussed in 2023, but popularized more recently, “model collapse” refers to a hypothetical scenario where future AI systems get progressively dumber due to the increase of AI-generated data on the internet.
– In 2023, researchers started wondering if they could get away with only relying on AI-created data for training, instead of human-generated data. There are huge incentives to make this work. In addition to proliferating on the internet, AI-made content is much cheaper than human data to source. It also isn’t ethically and legally questionable to collect en masse.
– However, researchers found that without high-quality human data, AI systems trained on AI-made data get dumber and dumber as each model learns from the previous one. It’s like a digital version of the problem of inbreeding.
– Can’t big tech just filter out AI-generated content? Not really. Tech companies already spend a lot of time and money cleaning and filtering the data they scrape, with one industry insider recently sharing they sometimes discard as much as 90 percent of the data they initially collect to train models.
– These efforts might get more demanding as the need to specifically remove AI-generated content increases. But more importantly, in the long term it will actually get harder and harder to distinguish AI content. This will make the filtering and removal of synthetic data a game of diminishing (financial) returns.

Sanchez fails to request Frontex help while the migratory collapse in Spain worsens: {Translation}

It could also patrol the limits of Spanish territorial waters, but this would have very delicate angles with respect to the border with Morocco and Western Sahara, in addition to the fact that military means would have to be used, including those of other countries.
– In its 2023 annual report, Frontex already pointed out that the biggest increase in arrivals of undocumented migrants in Europe was occurring on the West African route, with increases of up to 161%, and Leijtens himself has described the situation in the Canary Islands as ‘Europe’s main concern’ in the field of illegal immigration. Furthermore, Frontex has recognised that the situation in the archipelago has become ‘a structural problem’.
– MEP Juan Ignacio Zoido has denounced ‘the neglect of duty with which the Sánchez government is condemning the Canary Islands’ with the aggravating factor that ‘in Moncloa they were already warned months ago by Frontex, by the Canary Islands and by the PP that this crisis would occur’.
– Dolors Montserat also announced that she will call for a debate in the plenary session of the European Parliament to discuss the Spanish government’s refusal to ask Frontex to intervene and a motion urging Pedro Sánchez to ask the EU for help. – The head of the Central Court of Instruction number 2 of the Audiencia Nacional, Ismael Moreno, has dismissed the State Attorney’s Office from the defence of the former Undersecretary of Transport, Jesús Manuel Gómez, in the Koldo corruption trials, because it has not presented the certification that it has been authorised to do so and has rescheduled the hearing to 23 September so that the new defence, now private, can prepare it for him.
– In a resolution to which ABC had access, Moreno thus closed the controversy over the participation of the state legal services in defence of the number 3 of the Ministry, a move that alerted the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office due to the possible conflict of interest that would arise if there were indications of tax crimes in the case.
– In such cases, the Attorney General’s Office prosecutes on behalf of the Tax Agency. It would thus be both accusing and defending, as warned by popular accusations such as the Liberum Association.
– To settle the matter, in August, the court asked the Law Office to provide a certificate accrediting that it had the mandatory authorisation of the General Directorate of Litigation, ‘enabling it to assume the representation and defence of the investigated person’. Plan approved for more than 3,500 new homes on eastern Costa del Sol:
– Vélez-Málaga town hall on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol has approved a plan to build 3,507 new homes in different towns and villages in the municipality. According to its General Urban Development Plan (PGOU), that is still pending revision to adapt it to the new regional legislation, the LISTA, there are still plans to build around 25,000 new homes.
– For the moment, the town planning department has set in motion the procedures for 3,507 new builds in what will be known as SUP-B9 in Benajarafe, which consists of two phases, with 902 houses divided into a first phase of 250 and a second phase of 652, of which 88 will be VPO (subsidised housing).

EU Does Not Plan to Facilitate Rules for UK Touring Musicians:
– The UK touring musicians have been calling on the government for a long time to sign deals with the EU that would facilitate their travel. The post-Brexit rules require artists who want to perform in the EU to obtain visas and transport permits for their equipment, which adds cost and makes it more challenging to perform in the 27 countries. A study by the Musicians Union has revealed that 50 per cent of UK musicians believe that touring the EU “is not financially viable” after the UK left the EU.

Grenfell Tower fire inquiry blames deaths on incompetence and greed:
– A public inquiry into the devastating 2017 London Grenfell Tower blaze that killed 72 people blamed the disaster on failings by the government, construction industry and, most of all, the firms involved in fitting the exterior with flammable cladding. The fire ripped through the 23-storey social housing block in one of London’s richest areas during the early hours of June 14, 2017. It was Britain’s deadliest blaze in a residential building since World War Two.
– “The simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable,” said inquiry chair Martin Moore-Bick. In its long awaited final report, the inquiry laid most responsibility for the disaster on the companies involved in the maintenance and refit of the apartment tower, as well as companies that it said had dishonestly marketed combustible cladding materials as safe.
It also criticized the then-government, the local authority of Kensington and Chelsea, the industry, regulatory groups, specific individuals and an ill-prepared fire brigade for years of inaction over fire safety in high-rise blocks.

– Your long-held suspicions are confirmed, according to a report: Your phone really is listening to you.
– A marketing firm whose clients include Facebook and Google has privately admitted that it listens to users’ smartphone microphones and then places ads based on the information that is picked up, according to 404 Media. Cox Media Group, the television and radio news conglomerate, admitted in a “pitch deck” (a brief presentation, often with slide show or PowerPoint projections) to investors that its “Active Listening” software uses artificial intelligence to “capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations…advertisers can pair this voice-data with behavioral data to target in-market consumers.”
– CMG noted that consumers “leave a data trail based on their conversations and online behavior” and that the AI-powered software collects and analyzes said “behavioral and voice data from 470+ sources.”

– 11:00am, with a mass for the blessing of the grapes, with the participation of the Aires de la Axarquía Choir and the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Music Band.
– 12:30pm, the Malaga singer, musician and composer Javier Ojeda will give the opening speech of the 24th Fiesta de Viñeros. This will be followed by a tour, accompanied by the Panda de Verdiales de Moclinejo, mountain style, to the wine press, where you will be able to watch live the rhythm of the treaders to obtain the muscatel juice.

Mijas Pueblo Fair starts today Wednesday 4/9: {Translation}

Russian missiles kill 50 in strike on Ukrainian military institute:
– At least 50 people were killed and 271 wounded when Russia hit a military institute in Ukraine’s central town of Poltava with two ballistic missiles on Tuesday, the war’s deadliest single attack this year. ‘Drakaris’- Ukraine’s new flamethrower drone torches Russian trenches in fiery attack:
– Footage has been doing the rounds on social media that appears to show a new flamethrower drone being employed by Ukrainian Forces against Russian targets. Initially released on Telegram, the footage shows some unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) blasting jets of fire along a treeline. The footage lasts around a minute, with the last 30 seconds showing the devastation unleashed by the attack. It is unclear from the footage if Russian soldiers occupy the treeline, but a small explosion goes off in the treeline at the 25-second mark.
– Due to the low quality of the footage, it is difficult to distinguish the drone in question, but the entire attack lasts for around 22 seconds. After this, the drone drops its incendiary weapon (presumably now spent) and flies off.
– Careful observation of the flamethrower shows that it consists of a spray of sparks rather than a more traditional jet of ignited liquid. This would indicate that the “flamethrower” probably uses some form of thermite or similar material. Thermite is a powder mixture of iron oxide and aluminum powders. These react to reach temperatures around 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit (2,400 degrees Celsius), which can melt through steel plates in seconds. It is also used for cutting and welding in industry.
– The drone likely posed little real threat to any Russian soldiers. Still, the highly flammable nature of thermite would readily ignite things like dry vegetation, ammunition, or other materials not protected inside dugouts. – From 12 noon onwards, the exhibition of the 3rd ‘Windows to Art and Muscatel’ painting competition of the Axarquia of Malaga, organised by the Muscatel Association, will be open in the Axarquia room of the Centre for Art and Development (CAD). The opening will take place at 17:30 and can be visited until 20:00.
– At 17:00 there will be a parade with verdiales by the Panda de El Borge del estilo Comares. From 18:00 the Plaza de España will host performances by the ‘Luz de Luna’ choir from Almáchar, the José Lucena Flamenco School and the verdiales band from El Borge.
– At the same time, there will be a tourist and gastronomic tour with free tasting of ajoblanco and grapes offered free of charge through various streets of the village. – The abolishment of real estate investment option from Portugal’s Golden Visa scheme has led a significant number of internationals to turn their eyes to the D7 visa, known as the Retirement Visa. Established by the Government of Portugal in 2007, this kind of visa allows nationals from non-EU/EEA and Switzerland to acquire residency in Portugal, provided they have sufficient passive income.
– Among the requirements for benefiting from the D7 visa is to have a reasonable passive income. In order to qualify for the Passive Income Visa, applicants should be aged 18 or older, have a clean criminal record and have private health insurance.
– The passive income can come from movable property, real estate, rental income, financial investments or intellectual property. The minimum requirement income for the D7 visa is that applicants make at least €820.00 per month.
– The Passive income visa is valid for two years and can be extended for an additional three years. After a five-year period of obtaining a residency permit, its holders can be required to be Portuguese nationals. The processing time for the D7 visa is up to 60 days, provided applicants submit all the required documents.
– Following the changes that took effect on October 9, 2023, the real estate investment option to acquire residency and the option of transferring a total of €1.5 million into a Portuguese bank account in exchange for residency is no longer available. – In the event that the personal income is less than 6,784.54 euros per year and the person lives with family members, the requirement will only be met when the sum of the annual income of all the members of the economic unit of cohabitation is less than the following amounts:
* 2 cohabitants: 11,533.72 euros.
* 3 cohabitants: 16,282.90 euros.
* 4 or more cohabiting partners: 21,032.08 euros.
– The individual amount of the pension is established according to the number of non-contributory pension recipients in the same economic unit, the personal income and/or the income of the people in the economic unit. In this regard, Social Security points out that the annual amount of non-contributory pensions is 7,250.60 euros. – The summer is coming to an end and while hoping that there is considerable rainfall in autumn, Malaga province faces a looming crisis with its reservoirs at 19.2 per cent of their capacity, with just 117 cubic hectometres stored, compared to the 147 they had a year ago. – Excavation carried out in Calle Postigo de Abades to install the crane in readiness for work on the new roof reveals pieces. They date from 5,000 years ago, putting the city’s occupation back by a thousand years to the Chalcolithic or Copper Age (after Neolithic and before the Bronze Age).
– This great historical journey was made possible by the fact that the excavations were able to go down four and a half metres, which made it possible to obtain a stratigraphy (the study of strata, or layers) from the Chalcolithic period to the present day.

– Many publications are now using AI to write their articles. Both Sports Illustrated and The NY Times have released the majority of their writing staffs, and now rely on AI to produce most of their articles. Many of the most popular Spanish news outlets are doing the same. While this alone may not present problems, as AI can do research faster than a human, the parameters the human controlling the “AI writer” enters can present annoyances. Human writers use AI set parameters to attract readers to the article (clickbait headlines) and keep them on that page as long as possible (pageview time).
– When the human sets a minimum number of words for the article, AI will often reword previous paragraphs, and include these redundant rewrites later in the article to reach the total word goal.
– AI will often use a question as a headline, or intentionally leave out key terms, so the reader must click the headline and view the article to find out what it is really about.
– AI will often avoid the main point for several paragraphs, filling these with unnecessary, and even unrelated, background info, so the reader is forced to read well into the article before discovering the main point.
– Meanwhile, these same publications, with newly reduced staff and salary obligations, are demanding ever more from readers to view the content, effectively raising their prices as their expenses drop, making them more profitable. First we had to provide them our email addresses. Then we had to accept cookies, and permit them to sell our data, or buy a subscription. Then they started blocking VPNs. Now they fill pages with popups and overlay ads you must click to close to view the real content.
– The greed never ends. These publications used to manage to thrive on advertising income. But the managers have to show growing profits to keep their jobs. So while ever more sources of income are developed, less expensive (and thus lower quality) sources of new content are constantly pursued. These new income sources are all derived from exploiting the readers, padding their websites and publications with lower grade content, and then either by selling us something, collecting ever more intrusive data from us, or providing a new surface on which to place ads in front of us so they can sell more advertising.
– Remember, AI is trained on Internet content, and much of what you find on the Internet is rubbish. AI just takes it all in for processing, mashes it all together, rearranges it, and then feeds it back to users in a conversational format, following rules derived from its human written set of rules known as an algorithm, so it appears as a “human” response. AI does not “know” anything, it simply follows logic chains of linguistic models. AI does not understand anything, it has no morals, ethics or desire to tell the truth.
– I recently read an interesting insight from a tech website on this topic. It said you should treat AI like your “know it all” neighbor. Yes, he may be well informed on some topics, but half the time he’s full of crap.

Euribor heads for its biggest monthly drop in 15 years with average mortgage down by up to 919 euros per year: {Translation, summary}
– September is always a difficult month for families’ finances, but this year it will come with a little relief for many. With only four days to go before the end of August, the one-year Euribor – the indicator used to calculate the repayment of almost all variable-rate mortgages in Spain – stands at 3.180% on average for the month, 0.35 points below the figure at the end of July. A plunge that anticipates substantial revisions in the monthly bill paid by families.
– Barring a disaster, the Euribor will close August at its lowest level since December 2022, the biggest fall in this indicator compared with the previous month in the last 15 years.
– The most tangible consequence for families will be a relief in their mortgage repayments. For an average variable loan – 150,000 euros over 25 years with an annual review and a differential of one point over Euribor – updating the instalment with the August figure can mean a saving of up to 76.54 euros per month (€919 per year). In mortgages with higher debt, the relief would be even greater.
– In any case, although the relief is considerable, the monthly bill that borrowers will pay will still be well above what they were paying before the inflationary crisis. A scenario that is unlikely to return in the short or medium term. According to provisional data for August, variable mortgages will continue to be 23% more expensive than in 2022 (which translates into 153 euros more per month for a standard loan such as the one mentioned above) and 52% more expensive than three years ago, when the Euribor was in negative territory.
– The other consequence of the fall in the Euribor, which has been occurring since March although not as abruptly as in August, is that the cost of new loans should become cheaper. The latest data published by the Bank of Spain show that the interest paid on new home purchase transactions stood at 3.38% last June, almost six tenths of a percentage point below the peak reached in October last year.
– The big question is whether this downward trend in the Euribor will continue from now on and for how long. The next clue in this regard will come from the European Central Bank (ECB) in just over two weeks. The institution that regulates the euro will decide on 12 September whether or not to apply a further cut in official interest rates – the rates that define how much it costs to borrow or the remuneration of deposits.
– The markets are betting that the institution chaired by Christine Lagarde will vote in favour of lowering rates. A view that, according to ECB sources quoted by Reuters, is shared by the central bank’s decision-makers. The context seems favourable for this. In the eurozone, inflation remains stable at around 2.6% (very close to the 2% target); wage rises (an indicator of great concern to the ECB) have moderated and the US Federal Reserve has recently announced that it will lower rates for the first time two and a half years after starting to raise them.
– The signals sent by central banks in the coming weeks will be key to anticipating the future of the Euribor. It would not be the first time that the markets err on the side of optimism and bet heavily on rate cuts that in the end do not happen. Last December the Euribor already suffered a sharp fall similar to the one in August, precisely because of this euphoria that finally came to nothing. New ‘Dana’ weather system set to affect south of Spain:
– Spain’s state weather agency (Aemet) is forecasting the arrival of a ‘Dana’ isolated high-level depression on Thursday 29 August, which will bring a change to the weather in the south of the country. This phenomenon will extend until the end of the week and generate instability in large parts of Andalucía, with rainfall in most of the region, as well as a generalised drop in temperatures of between two and five degrees.
– The director of the Aemet weather centre in Malaga, Jesus Riesco, explained that during today (Monday 26 August) and Tuesday there could be rainfall “locally accompanied by some storms” in the eastern mountain ranges of Andalucía – mainly Almeria, Granada and Jaén provinces – where heavy rains have already been recorded during the past weekend.
