“Torrox en el 90’s Lovers” Festival: Sat, 26 Aug
– Disco music will “flood” Torrox in the 90’s Lovers, a festival that will be held this Saturday night in the sports complex of La Granja and that has in its line-up, among others, Rebeca, A.S.AP., Dj Kun & Sofía Cristo.
– The festival will start at 20:00 with the opening of the gates. At around 21:00 the first show and concerts will take place, which will continue until approximately 2:00 in the morning. Afterwards it will be the turn of the DJs, with sessions that will continue until 5:00 am.
– Regarding the free buses, departures from El Morche to Torrox will be at 23:00 hours and 00:00 hours, while in the opposite direction are scheduled at 3:00 hours, 4:00 hours, 5:00 hours and 6:00 hours, always at the usual stops.
– The 90’s Lovers is sponsored by Torrox Town Hall, through the Fiestas delegation, and organised by Sala Bolero. Ticket sales are still open on the website www.90lovers.com, and all the information about the festival is also available on social networks.

Gramola Festival (jukebox festival) – Canillas de Albaida: Sat, 2 Sep, 22:00
– Paying homage to the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
– Thus, the sixth edition will be on Saturday, September 2 at 10:00 p.m. in the town square. The music will be provided by Dj José Carlos Domínguez & Dj Toulalan. “The music plays until dawn and it draws attention as all the people who attend the party are dressed in clothes from those decades. Some choose to dress in pairs and others do it in groups, remembering the artists of those years, the musical groups and even characters from mythical films or series”. During the night, there will be a choice of the King and Queen of the festivities with ‘Prize for the best dresses of the time’.

These are 4 of our dogs looking for homes of their own. All are fully vaccinated, chipped and have passports, except Feliz. Tina & Calie are both neutered, Freddie is not old enough to be neutered yet, and Feliz will start his vaccinations soon, and neutered when the vet recommends it. Freddie is a loving, confident pup, full of life and fun. His mum is only small, but we think Freddie will be more medium to large in size. Currently he is living in kennels, but would really benefit from living in a foster home, or better still a home of his own. He gets on well with other dogs, but hasn’t met any cats yet.

Calie has been in a foster home since November 22, when she was found with her litter of pups. Her pups have all been adopted, and Calie is ready for a loving home of her own. She is good with other dogs, a little shy and nervous of new people, but soon overcomes this when brushed.

Tina sadly has had a few upheavals this last year, and is in need of a new home. Tina is very gentle, and loves to be the centre of attention. She does understandably fret with changes, and needs a secure stable home. Tina will make a lovely companion, and would love nothing more than being by someone’s side all day.

Feliz arrived at the right house at the right time. A terrified bag of bones, but his finders took him in, and showed him how nice it is to live in a home. Feliz soon relaxed, and started to play with the resident cats and dogs. He is gradually gaining weight, and has had a basic vet check. He plays well, no roughness, and has been good in the house. Good in the car, and good at the vets. Feliz will start his vaccinations soon.

Torrox prepares to experience the 15th San Roque Pilgrimage: {Translation, summary}

Frigiliana celebrates its 3 Cultures festival with all sorts of entertainment and 2 tapas routes: {Translation}
– Music, culture and gastronomy come together this weekend in Frigiliana. From Thursday 24 to Sunday 27, the municipality of Malaga organizes the Festival Frigiliana 3 Cultures where music and gastronomy converge as a unique and key culture to understand how this sixteenth edition will have three stages where you can listen to Arabic, Christian and Sephardic music with a lineup to match and a route of the cover with two different aspects.
– The festival, which will start on Thursday 24, will also feature “two pyro musical shows, visual projections, a craft market consisting of about 100 craft and food stalls, a tapas route with more than 16 establishments, children’s corner, conferences, film series, workshops for children and adults, craft souk, more than 40 parades, children’s shows and circus”, emphasize from the festival that will turn one of the most visited villages of Malaga and Axarquia in a unique recreational and festive environment.
– The outstanding concerts of the Festival Frigiliana 3 Culturas are already unveiled. The big headliner will be the flamenco singer Arcángel, who will perform on Sunday 27 at 22:30 pm in the Plaza de las 3 Culturas. On Saturday 26 will be from 23:00 hours the rock group Eskorzo, in the Plaza de las 3 Culturas. On Friday it is the turn of Collado Project (of La Mancha origin of Iberian folk) from 23:00 in the same location and the debut on Thursday 24 will be the fireworks show at 22:30 and after him Tarwa N-Tiniri (Moroccan band with blues rhythms of the desert), at 23:00.
– In addition to the concerts, in this edition of the Festival Frigiliana 3 Cultures also highlights the tapas route, divided into two, the Moorish route and the Mudejar route, both composed of eight restaurants and bars available from 18:00 to 0:00. The Moorish route is made up of Orihuela (patatas bravas), Genesis (beef in tomato sauce), Spice Frigiliana (vegetable rice with mint sauce), Plaza 45 (pan bao with lomo en manteca), Cafetería Almijara (chicken curry with vegetables and basmati rice), El Mirador (homemade ravioli with tomato cream), Taberna del Sacristán (pork sacristan style) and La Tapería (chickpea salad). – A week of heavy propaganda is upon us, the election news dominates every Spanish news source, and I see no reason to cover most of it. If you’ve been following my coverage here you know the situation, now we just have to wait. This week the King will decide if he will offer up a person for the candidacy of PM to be considered by the Parliament. The Spanish news outlets are jammed full of election articles, some reasonable analysis, but also a lot of outright lies and outrageous misrepresentations in statements by politicians, from both the left and right. The accusations and name-calling…it is absolutely undignified.
– The only other story making headlines is the silly controversy over Spanish football federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales (male) giving a split-second kiss on the lips to a 33 year old player in spontaneous celebration as the Spanish team won their World Cup championship match. It’s probably the biggest event in both their lives, but the celebratory kiss is what the press focuses on, and calls it “an assault”? Sorry, a momentary kiss indiscretion, in an instant of joy after a huge victory, in a country where double kiss greeting people you barely know is common, this is not a news worthy “assault”. Yet many are making this out to be a serious offence. For example, Yolanda Díaz, leader of Sumar and acting vice president of the Government has called for the resignation of Rubiales for the kiss to Jenni Hermoso: “He has harassed and assaulted a woman”. Although the player indicated “she did not like it,” the “victim” deemed his actions a “natural gesture of affection”. News outlets with this “assault” as a front-page story {pic} should be ashamed of themselves. So I’m gonna pass on covering that also.
– Spanish politics is in a terrible mess. When real news is available, I’ll post it.

Mezquitilla Fair: August 24 to 27
– Thursday, August 24, the fair will begin at the fairgrounds with the Blue Hour from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with discounts on all attractions. Starting at 12:00 a.m. there will be a performance by the dance group ‘Hakuna Matata’.
– Friday the 25th, the fair will begin at 11:00am with children’s activities in Velero street, with bouncy castles, archery and other workshops. Starting at 2:00 p.m., there will be a great popular paella and at 4:30 p.m. the bicycle races, balloons, sack races and motorcycle ribbons will begin. At 9:00 p.m., the little ones will be able to enjoy the performance of ‘Riky and Pinky’. Starting at 00:00 hours, the Queen of the festivities, Bridesmaids, Mister and Man or Woman of the year will be chosen. At 01:00 a.m. performance by Yulen the hairdresser.
– Saturday the 26th there will be a day fair starting at 12:00 pm with Dj Worzel and musical group ‘Por Derecho’. At 00:00, election of Miss and Mister Visitor and the most talkative couple. And at 01:00 a.m. concert of El Último Tributo (tribute to the Last of the Row) in the official booth of the school, with free admission.
– Sunday the 27th there will be a mass and procession of Our Lady of Fatima accompanied by ‘Niños del Coro’ and the Rincón de la Victoria Musical Band. At 1:00am, a great performance by ‘Los Rebujitos’ and a great final fireworks.
In addition, starting at 8:00 p.m., there will be a tribute to the elderly and the grandparents of the year will be chosen. They will be able to enjoy a snack and the performance of ‘María España’ .

Tenerife Wildfire Update- Spanish officials says wildfire on Tenerife was started deliberately:
– Canary Islands regional President Fernando Clavijo said Sunday that police have confirmed that a wildfire raging on the Spanish tourist island of Tenerife was started deliberately.
– Improved weather conditions helped firefighters make advances overnight in their battle to tame the blaze that has raged out of control for the past five days, authorities said.
– Tenerife governor Rosa Dávila said Saturday that more than 12,000 people have been evacuated from their homes since the fire started Tuesday. Up to Saturday, more than 20,000 acres of pine forest had been burned.

Fandangos de Güi: Saturday, August 19 , 9pm on the Güi River esplanade in El Morche. There will be a special bus service from Torrox to the Río Güí esplanade starting at 8:00 p.m.
Four-by-four time with six verse verses sung with the harmonic structure of the fandango; dance in pairs or ombre; pestle, saucers, spoons, bottles of anise, tambourines, chopsticks, guitars and violins. Among others, these are the ingredients of the traditional “recipe” of the Fandangos de Güi , which date back to the 19th century. Video Link

Fiestas in Río Bermuza- Canillas de Aceituno: August 18 to 20
In honour of its patron saint, the Virgen de la immaculate.
– Friday, August 18. The Fiestas will begin at 9am, inaugurating the Day Fair at 1pm, in which the Mayordomos will invite you to an Andalusian snack. From 4pm the children’s games begin. At 10:00 p.m. the inauguration of the Fairground, with the lighting switched on and beginning of the dance by the Sonora Orchestra, as well as the opening of the Free mattress for children. To end the day on Friday, at 00:00 there will be music and dancing in the booth with a stellar performance by Miguel Botana and some more surprises starting at 01:00 .
– On Saturday, August 19, the star day of the Fiestas, these will begin at 12 noon, when the chefs from the Junta de Festejos will prepare a fantastic stew. At 4pm children’s entertainment with clowns, face painting, popular games and more. At 6pm a ribbon race. Cristo del Chorrillo from 8pm followed by the procession through the streets, accompanied by the Town Band. At 11pm the Sound Orchestra followed by the performance of Miguel Botana. Finally, at 00:00, the Queen of the Festival and her ladies will be elected, followed by the election of the next mayordomos.
– Finally, on Sunday at 12 noon the Day Fair will reopen, with snacks and the long-awaited paella that will be offered to all participants at 2:30 p.m. Finally, starting at 5pm, a performance by Leo Music live and a great final fireworks at 8:00 p.m.

I have all paperwork that came with it, but there is no homologation number and without this it cannot get an ITV. According to the manager at Motril ITV centre a new homologation number can be obtained but I don’t know how to do that, so until then it can only be used on private
land.

Elrow Festival- Velez Malaga: Sat, 19 Aug
The event starts at 18.00 and it ends at 06.30 of Sunday. There will be intense traffic from 18.00 to 22.00 hours in the municipality (especially in the vicinity of CC El Ingenio), so it is recommended to reduce the use of private vehicles.
The Torrox road will be allowed only in the direction of Caleta towards Vélez-Málaga, so drivers who travel in the direction of the coast or towards the A-7 Motorway are advised to use the regional road A-356.

German cabinet approves plans to legalise cannabis for recreational use:
– The German government approved a draft law Wednesday legalising the purchase and possession of cannabis for recreational use, with the health minister pushing back against criticism of the controversial plans.
– The legislation would allow adults to possess up to 25 grams (0.9 ounces) of cannabis and grow up to three plants for personal use. People would also be allowed to join non-profit “cannabis clubs” of up to 500 members where the drug can be legally cultivated and purchased.

– According to the report, the EES, the launch date of which remains unknown so far, might even triple queuing times at the border between the UK and France.
– The EES is a new border system through which the EU intends to modernise the management of external borders by registering data on non-EU nationals entering and leaving the EU and Schengen Area territory. Through it, the EU plans to enhance security for both its citizens and visitors.

Google Chrome’s latest AI feature is bad news for authors:
– Google continues to sprinkle AI into its product line with a new feature coming to its Search Generative Experience (SGE), where Google’s Chrome web browser will summarize the articles you’re reading in an instant pop-up.
– We won’t see the new feature right away, which Google has named “SGE while browsing”. The generated summary will begin rolling out next week Tuesday as an “early experiment” within the opt-in Search Labs, a program for people to experiment with early Google Search experiences and share feedback. Interestingly, it will be available on mobile before the Chrome browser on desktop, so keep your eyes peeled while you’re Googling on Android or iOS.
– This feature could certainly be super helpful, especially if you’re looking for concise information very quickly. However, it may be bad news for the people writing the content.
– If you’ve spent time and energy to really flesh out your article, give your topic context and personality and people are just given summaries and skip over that, it may be discouraging. Especially if you’re writing about sensitive or serious topics, if the generated summaries are leaving out crucial information people may only go with the presented points and leave behind something important or useful (like mixing cleaning products or medication information).

Mezquitilla Fair: August 24 to 27
– Thursday, August 24, the fair will begin at the fairgrounds with the Blue Hour from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with discounts on all attractions . At 10:30 p.m. at the school there will be a proclamation by Patricia Ramírez , a resident of the town. Starting at 12:00 a.m. there will be a performance by the dance group ‘Hakuna Matata’.
– Friday the 25th, the fair will begin at 11:00am with children’s activities in Velero street, with bouncy castles, archery and other workshops. Starting at 2:00 p.m., there will be a great popular paella and at 4:30 p.m. the bicycle races, balloons, sack races and motorcycle ribbons will begin. At 9:00 p.m., the little ones will be able to enjoy the performance of ‘Riky and Pinky’ together with the choice of the queen, ladies, mister and their children’s knights . Starting at 00:00 hours, the Queen of the festivities, Bridesmaids, Mister and Man or Woman of the year will be chosen. At 01:00 a.m. performance by Yulen the hairdresser.

The PP prepares to take control of the Senate as of Thursday, with an absolute majority, the Presidency and the right of veto: {Translation, summary}
– After the elections held on July 23rd, next Thursday, the Senate of the XV Legislature will be set up and the Partido Popular, winner of the elections, is preparing to make its majority in the Upper House effective. Its 143 senators will allow it to take over the Presidency of the Chamber, control the Senate Bureau and, consequently, condition the processing of the laws coming from the Congress, being able to delay them, modify them and even veto them.
– Who will preside over the Chamber? Although it will be when the PP takes over the Presidency of the Senate, it has not yet been declared who will be the person who will occupy the position. As for the candidates, some names stand out, such as Pedro Rollán, the most voted senator on the 23rd; the former president of the Galician Parliament, Pilar Rojo; the former president of the Congress, Luisa Fernández Rudi; or the former leader of the Andalusian PP, Javier Arenas.
– In addition, the ‘popular’ majority in the Chamber will also allow it to have a Vice-presidency and two Secretaries of the Bureau, so it will have four of the seven votes available in the Senate’s governing body. This majority will allow him to offer a post to another party, with a view to the hard-fought fight for the support to configure the Bureau of the other chamber, the Congress of Deputies, or a hypothetical investiture.
– The PP’s trump card is that, with the control of the Senate, it will be able to delay and veto the norms that come out of Congress. – In addition, the PP will have the power to supervise the process of formation of parliamentary groups, for which 10 senators are required. This requirement is only met by the PP itself, the PSOE and the ERC-Bildu coalition, which was together in the Senate elections. The rest of the parties will have to reach agreements among themselves to reach this quota of 10 senators.

In their statement, UGT have specified that “…for more than a week pest services have not been able to eliminate the plague of bedbugs detected in the Therapeutic Community of the Civil Hospital”, it affects “the health of workers in that unit and of course the health of patients admitted”.
– Despite repeated fumigations in the last week, bedbugs are still producing bites. “The bedbugs even come out of the walls, which is an indication that the plague has spread over a large area and for a long time. The constant fumigations carried out every day are not doing any good, but this matter is already a public health issue,” UGT have assured in the statement.
– In this regard, they added that “the facility needs to have improved, in addition to disinfestation, cleaning and hygiene of the facilities, which, if they are deficient in a generalized way by the lack of human resources of the cleaning staff, this summer has been increased “. In addition to these actions, they say that “it is necessary to ask Animal Health to act efficiently against the proliferation and maintenance of animal populations inside the premises of the Civil Hospital”.

This will be the retirement age for Spain in 2024 and what will be charged if not enough contributions are made: {Translation}
– The length of a person’s working life is directly linked to the retirement pension he/she will receive when he/she decides to stop working to spend the last stage of his/her life resting or enjoying free time with his/her family or friends.
– For the coming year 2024, the Social Security varies the retirement age currently in force. As reported by the Noticias Trabajo portal, the ordinary age will remain at 65. The minimum contribution period increases to 38 years or more.
– On the other hand, the legal age changes to 66 years and six months, in the event of not complying with the previous time. However, the condition that a person must contribute a minimum of 15 years to qualify for a pension is maintained.
Of these 15 years, two of them must have been within the 15 years prior to the application for retirement pay, as required by current regulations.
– Non-contributory pension. When these circumstances are not met, a non-contributory pension can be received, but under certain conditions: the candidate cannot have contributed more than 15 years for the pension and can only receive this benefit when he/she has reached the age of 65 and has resided in Spain legally and effectively for at least 10 years. In addition, income of €6,784.54 per year must not be exceeded. This figure is the one set for 2023. For 2024 it is still unknown, since it is fixed by the General State Budget. Bridge Holiday Weekend: Tuesday, August 15th is Assumption of Mary, a public holiday. The “bridge” refers to most also taking Monday the 14th off as well, creating a “bridge holiday” from Saturday thru Tuesday, a 4 day weekend.

Parking at Minigolf La Herradura:
-Important Notice: Mingolf La Herradura will remain closed until Friday 18 August. If there is a change in advance of the 18th, it will be posted on our website, http://www.minigolflh.es . Also, it is best to contact me using WhatsApp, 603 416 632. Missed phone calls without a message may go unanswered at present. Sorry for any inconvenience.
-High Season Parking: After some heavy lifting, measuring and painting the first two-thirds of the Minigolf La Herradura plot is now home to 20 parking spaces available for daily parking. If you are planning on spending the day in La Herradura this summer holiday, you could not ask for a more central location.
There is a large bathroom available as well as a picnic table where self-catering is allowed. Security cameras cover the entire plot. You could almost call this “boutique” parking. As such I highly recommend that you call in advance for reservations.
-Opening Hours and Admission fee: A daily pass costs 10 euros with opening hours every day from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. The price of admission includes unlimited access to the Minigolf course itself with parking included subject to availability.
-Minigolf has added an additional nine holes:
The full 18-hole course is complete and easily playable. It has tucked in nicely at the back in the space previously used for racquet sports and one petanca lane. The only difference from before is shorter spacing from one hole to the next.
The second petanca lane has been converted into what I refer to as the nine hole “guerrilla” course, the reason being that you decide the layout of the holes in whatever sneaky way you prefer. Nine actual holes are provided and there are various obstacles spread about. The players then decide how they want to arrange them, and where the hole will begin. It’s a fun way to create longer “holes” criss-crossing each other and there is no wrong design. A lot of fun in a small space.
-Location: We are very easy to find, albeit obscured from the beachfront Paseo Andrés Segovia. (See picture at the top. The red arrow reflects the fact these little alleys are one-way streets.). Please visit our website: www.minigolflh.es , contact tab, for full Google map.

The English Nights (Las Noches del Inglés)- An alternative to the Malaga Feria: At the English Cemetery in Malaga. 11-20Aug.

– Petra – DOB estimated 13.1.17 – A gentle giant, who has now adapted well to living in a home. Petra lives, and gets on well with other dogs and cats, but prefers human company. She isn’t very energetic, and loves to just potter round the garden. Although she is now used to going out for walks and stopping for a coffee. Petra will make the perfect family pet, if you have the space.
– Metta – DOB estimated 1.12.22 – Metta is a Podenco Cross, and likely to remain small to medium in size. Found as a young pup during a storm, she has thrived in her foster home. She has a wonderful temperament and loves all other animals, very affectionate and playful.
– Olive – DOB estimated 9.5.21 – Olive is a Podenco, and has the ears to prove it! Found on the streets in May, and now in a caring foster home, where she has adapted really well. She gets on well with the other dogs, and greets everyone with a wagging tail. Olive is only small in size, weighing 11kg.
– Patsy – DOB 18.03.23 – Bodeguero Mix. Born in kennels not long after her pregnant mum was rescued. Patsy is now in foster with one of her siblings, she is a happy pup, and has a very gentle nature. Good with other dogs and cats. Although mum is a Bodeguero, Patsy has been estimated to be medium to large in size.
– These are 4 of our dogs looking for homes of their own. All are fully vaccinated, chipped and have passports. Petra & Olive are both neutered. Metta & Patsy are not ready to be neutered yet. Can We Use Air Conditioner Water?:
– It is not recommended to drink AC water or allow pets to drink it. Air conditioner water, also known as condensate water, is the water that is collected from an air conditioner’s evaporator coil during the cooling process. While AC water is generally clean and free of contaminants, it is not purified in the same way that distilled water is and is not considered safe to drink.
– In fact, it will often appear clean and free of impurities, because it comes from the humidity in the air and doesn’t come into contact with “external” sources of dirt or bacteria. Owen Cafe Bar- Torre Del Mar: I would like to recommend Owen Cafe Bar in Torre Del Mar. The burgers (served from 20:30) in the evening are not only great value they taste sublime. The breakfast and daytime menu which includes Arepas is really good too they close for a break at 14:00 and re-open @ 17:30.
The indoor restaurant is fully air conditioned and has a really relaxed atmosphere.
