September historical re-enactments and festivities in Malaga: {Translation}
– 15th September in Alfarnate, Moors & Christians “La Embajada” Festival. It is
part of the patron saint fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, which will take place between 11 and 15 September. On the last day of the festival, the two opposing sides and the abduction of the image of the patron saint will be staged. The name of this re-enactment is due to the fact that in this plot an embassy of Christians will demand the return of the Virgin of Monsalud by reading the text called ‘Las relaciones’, which has been preserved since the 17th century.
– 13 to 15 September in Carratraca, Embrujo Andalusí (Bewitched in
Andalusia). Take advantage of this weekend to attend their particular throwback to ancient Al-Andalus through hundreds of lighted candles, a large traditional souk where you can buy handmade products and a wide range of musical, cultural and gastronomic activities.
– 13 to 15 September in Manilva, Assault on the Castillo de la Duquesa. At the
18th century fortress located a few metres from the beach of Manilva. A re-enactment will take place there, the confrontation between French and British troops with the support of the people of Manilva. It takes place on the same stage where the battle took place during the War of Independence.
– 20 to 22 September in Alameda, Life and Death of José María El
Tempranillo. The weekend closest to the date of the death of the famous bandit nicknamed El Tempranillo is the one on which the village of Alameda celebrates a historical re-enactment of this peculiar character. That weekend the village that saw him die and where his remains lie will give itself over to the dramatisation of his life and death.
– 20 to 22 September, The Burning of Algarrobo. This village was under
serious threat during the War of Independence, which, according to the story, could have ended with the entire town centre burnt to the ground. There was a great deed that prevented it and which is remembered today in this thematic festival.
– 20 to 22 September in Salares, Arab Andalusian Festival. An unforgettable medieval themed festival, next to a minaret, the remains of a mosque and even the remains of a fortress that has been hidden for centuries.
– 20 to 22 September in Bobadilla, Fiesta del Ferrocarril (Railway).
A unique atmosphere will be recreated around the last half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th century. Parades, puppet theatre, tastings of railway cooking and live music are some of the activities planned for this Railway Festival, celebrating the arrival of train service in the mid-19th century.
– 21 September in Casarabonela, Recreación Histórica de la Villa de Casarabonela (Historical Reenactment of the Town of Casarabonela). A dramatisation set in the period of the Moorish revolts of the 16th century.
– 27 to 29 September in Montejaque, The Battle of La Puente. The War of
Independence battle that took place in the enclave known as La Puente is remembered, where a group of Serranos commanded by the commander José Aguilar was able to celebrate an epic victory over the troops of the Napoleonic army.

SPAIN
Feijóo considers it impossible to recover consensus with Sánchez- “He lives off wild sectarianism”: {Translation}
– The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that Spain is experiencing a ‘national challenge’ due to the Catalan quota agreed between the PSOE and ERC, whose objective he has pointed out is to ‘finance the “procés”’, and believes that consensus cannot be recovered with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, because ‘he lives on confrontation and savage sectarianism’.
– ‘Sanchismo is not going to last forever. I can name several names in the PSOE with whom it would be very easy, or at least plausible, to regain consensus. Can consensus be regained with Sánchez? No. He lives on confrontation and wild sectarianism. His project is not Spain, it is him’, he said this Sunday in an interview in “El Mundo”, picked up by Europa Press.
– The popular leader claims that the regional funding has been broken to ‘save the soldier Sánchez’ and defends that the autonomous communities ‘are a network of responsibility, sense of State and equity’. ‘I understand that agreeing between all of us on what belongs to all of us is difficult, but it is the right thing to do. A compromise between two is easy, but it is immoral’, he explained.
– Feijóo affirms that financing is ‘much more important’ than the amnesty and argues that the government’s model builds ‘a Spain of first and second class citizens in terms of public services’. ‘The vast majority are being told that they will have 50% of the revenue collected in their community, while 7 million Spaniards, the vast minority, will have 100%,’ he said. ‘The ordinary representatives of the State, who are the regional presidents, must know that this is not a problem of giving a little more money,’ added the PP leader.
– In the interview, Feijóo said that the PP will try to ensure that the Congress does not approve the amendment of the Organic Law on Financing of Autonomous Communities (LOFCA) and denounce the failure to convene the Conference of Presidents, as well as explaining that ‘to maintain Sánchez, 45 years of funding for public services in equality are being broken’.
– ‘This is an absolute drift: a president who buys the extension of his mandate in the Government of Spain with the money of the Spanish people. We are at a historic moment,’ he said. Feijóo also believes that the regional presidents must attend the meeting with Sánchez at the Moncloa Palace, because otherwise ‘a mistake would be made’, and comments on the Federal Congress of the PSOE that it will be ‘a federal purge’.
– ‘He (Sánchez) threatens anyone who disagrees. The PSOE is in a critical existential situation and, as Guerra would say, ‘not even the mother who bore it knows it’, he said.
– Finally, on migration management, the leader of the PP argues that regular immigration is necessary in Spain if immigrants arrive with a work contract and accept Spanish laws. In this sense, he considers that the migration policy of the President of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, is more sensible than that of Sánchez. ‘Today, Spain is the worst country in the EU in terms of migration management. Spain is a boon for the mafias that traffic in people. Irregular immigration must be dealt with under the European Charter and we must talk about expulsions, refoulement and returns. Irregular immigration has no place in the rule of law’, he declared. ANDALUCÍA
What will the weather be like this autumn in Andalusia? The Aemet answers: {Translation}
– ‘More of the same’. This is how the regional delegate of the Aemet in Andalusia, Juan de Dios del Pino, sums up what is expected for autumn in Andalusia. According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency, the Andalusian region will continue the trend of recent months and years, with a reduction in rainfall and temperatures above the values typical of the season.
– Autumn is therefore expected to be ‘warmer and drier than normal’ in Andalusia, with the possibility of ‘more intense’ droughts as a result of the high temperatures recorded this summer, with 0.8 degrees more than usual for this time of year – the average temperature has been 25.7 degrees.
– The models point to a 70% probability that autumn will be ‘warmer than normal’ in Andalusia. As for rainfall, although the statistics are more ‘ambiguous’, there is a 40% probability that the new season will be drier than usual. As for rainfall, he has not ruled out the possibility of droughts in the coming months and that these will be ‘more intense’ as a result of an atmosphere with ‘a lot of energy’ accumulated by the high temperatures of the summer.
– ‘The summers are eating up part of the spring and autumn’, said Juan de Dios del Pino, who detailed how in the last 11 years, the greatest amount of water has been produced in spring – with droughts – to the detriment of the winters, when storms are recorded. The agricultural year, which ended on 1 September, closed with a water deficit of 64.6 litres per square metre less. ‘We are in a drought. A very long, very extensive drought,’ he added.
– By way of summary of the summer, the regional delegate of the Aemet in Andalusia has remarked that it has not been homogeneous, registering a first part with ‘many temperature oscillations – “thermal sawtooths” – that “are not usual” but that are produced as an effect of the danas; and a second part in which the peaks between the maximum and minimum have been “less pronounced”.
– August was the second warmest month since 1961, with four heat waves, second only to August 2023, when there were five. The heat waves this past August were ‘shorter’ than in 2023 and affected ‘less surface area’. Finally, Juan de Dios del Pino is confident that the drought will ‘break’ in the coming months, an event which, in his experience, occurs ‘suddenly’. 1000 teachers suddenly decline positions for “medical reasons”- Andalusia will launch an extra call this Monday to cover the “surprising” losses of more than 1,000 teachers: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Regional Minister for Educational Development and Vocational Training, Carmen Castillo {pic}, has announced that next Monday an extraordinary
call will be made to cover ‘all those absences that are unexpected’ of teachers whose incorporation was planned from 2 September in order to guarantee the coverage of posts with the start of the school year. There are currently more than 1,000 unexpected vacancies now reported by the schools, according to figures provided by the Regional Ministry to Europa Press, which guarantees that they will be covered ‘one hundred percent’.
– ‘These posts were indeed awarded and were indeed covered’, warned the Andalusian Minister for Educational Development, who justified the impossibility of foreseeing that these new posts would not be filled, although she is confident that the situation will be resolved after next week’s extraordinary call for applications. RONDA
An atypical Goyesca Saturday in pictures: {Translation}
– Ronda experienced a very atypical Goyesca Saturday, as the famous bullfight which attracts thousands of people every year to the city of the Tagus could not be held due to structural problems encountered in its bullring. Faced with this situation, the Town Hall organised a parade of Goyaesque ladies from different years who travelled through the centre of the city in carriages. Afterwards, they presided over an equestrian show which took place in the Alameda del Tajo. All photos: Javier Flores/MalagaHoy.

Russia takes Ukrainian town in advance on Pokrovsk:
– Russia said on Sunday its forces had taken full control of a town in eastern Ukraine as Moscow’s forces advance on the strategically important city of Pokrovsk and seek to pierce the Ukrainian defensive front lines.
– Russian forces, which control about a fifth of Ukraine since invading in February 2022, are advancing in eastern Ukraine in an attempt to take the whole of the Donbas, which is about half the size of the U.S. state of Ohio.
– Russia’s defence ministry said its forces had taken the town of Novohrodivka, which lies 12 km (7 miles) from Pokrovsk, an important rail and road hub for Ukrainian forces in the area. The town had a population of 14,000 before the war.
– Yuri Podolyaka, an influential Ukrainian-born, pro-Russian military blogger, published maps showing Russian forces attacking beyond Novohrodivka in at least two places less than 7 km (4 miles) from Pokrovsk. REAL ESTATE
Holiday apartment owners in Spain fined 2,000 euros for insisting guest must send ID via WhatsApp:
– A would-be guest who booked a holiday apartment in Badajoz, Spain, through an accommodation platform was contacted by one of the owners of the establishment
requiring him to send a photograph of both sides of his and the others guests’ identification documents via WhatsApp or email. This was a condition of entry to the accommodation, despite the fact that the booking confirmation indicated that they would only have to show them on arrival.
– The guest refused to do so and when he arrived at the apartment to check in by showing his ID card, the owners insisted that he had to send the documentation by WhatsApp if he wanted to stay there overnight. Finally, the guest’s repeated refusal led the establishment to prevent him from accessing the pre-booked and pre-paid apartment.
– The would-be guest reported the establishment owners not only to the Guardia Civil, but also went to the Spanish data protection agency (AEPD), which has subsequently fined the owners of the accommodation for an offence they considered “very serious”.
– Finally, as well as imposing the fine, the AEPD ordered the owners to cease collecting copies of its customers’ identity documents for the completion of the registration within three months and to modify the information it offers on personal data protection. It also warned that failure to do so could be considered an administrative infringement that could lead to another fine. EU backs down and reapplies restrictions on the transport of liquids in hand luggage: {Translation, summary}
– In different airports around the world and in Europe, so-called explosive detection systems for cabin baggage (EDSCB) with X-ray technology are being installed that scan hand luggage and show an image of the objects in three dimensions, which facilitates inspection in boarding areas. Until last Sunday, at airfields that had this system, passengers could transport liquid containers of more than 100 ml. inside their carry-on luggage, without having to take them out and display them on a separate tray.
– However, the European Commission recently backtracked and announced that from September 1, 2024, the previous 100 ml regulation would be operational in Europe again.
– So how should we act now? Whatever the airport and the control system used in the boarding area, passengers who want to carry liquids, gels or aerosols in their hand luggage must continue to use containers of no more than 100 ml that together do not add up to a liter. In addition, they will have to present them outside the suitcase in a transparent bag.
