Here we are again, it’s time to tell all you lovely people about all the fun we have lined this week with no fewer than 5 live music acts (back to back acts on Saturday) and 2 food specials!
-Thurs 2100hrs The fantastic Rosstown will be back in acoustic duo form and last time, this girls voice wowed everyone so don’t miss them!
-Fri 2130hrs The wonderful Art Club Band are back doing everything from American country to rock’n’roll. A fun night of classic American fun!
-Sat 1800hrs The songbook that is Shony is joining us for some great music on the terrace in the evening sunshine, looking at the beautiful sea!
-Sat 2200hrs Our Saturday night main event is a punk and rock extravaganza this week as we welcome back The Altoonas! These guys are fantastic fun and we were packed and rocking for their last gig so don’t miss them!
-Sun 1500hrs What a treat we have this Sunday on the terrace…. we’ve waited months to get these guys back after they blew our minds when they 1st played with us 2 months ago! Chicago Jim & Mandolin Mick Duo/Trio/Band are back to is finally! These guys are so so good and so so busy and hard to get so make sure and join us Sunday for what will be a simply incredible afternoon of amazing live music!

This coming weeks entertainment @ Danny Boy’s
-Thursday afternoon (today) at 4pm we have another live music session on the terrace. This week we are pleased to welcome the wonderful and talented “Stuart McKay” to our summer terrace sessions. Stuart will be playing great acoustic music on the terrace, accompanied by good friend of Danny Boy’s ‘Alfred Braun‘. We’ll have our BBQ on the terrace too, serving up ribs, burgers, chicken, steak sandwiches and Hot-dogs.
-Saturday Night we have Karaoke with our very own Karaoke King Carlos. 9pm. Come along and join in, or sit back and watch the show.
-Sunday night we have “The Candlelight Sessions” A cozy night of music and tunes to round off the weekend. 9pm
-Every day for the summer months we have our BBQ on the terrace from 4-9pm serving up the finest ribs, steak sandwiches, burgers, chicken and Hot-dogs, all accompanied, if you choose, with home-cut chips, salad and homemade coleslaw.

Car Boot/Market. Sunday 9th June: The regular Car Boot sale/market is at El Pantano Restaurant car park, overlooking Lake Vinuela, on Sunday 9th June 9.30am to 1.pm. We had to move it from its normal date of the 1st Sunday in the month, due to a private Romeria event at El Pantano. We are now back to our normal schedule for June and July.
Easy to find on the A356 towards Colmenar.
Drive over the bridge crossing Lake Vinuela and the car park/bar is just ahead on the right hand side. Plenty of parking.
There are always bargains galore, old and new.
– Always a good selection of D.I.Y. tools.
– Lots of local grown fruit and veg.
– Homemade Jams and Marmalades and Chutneys
– Household and garden items for sale on many of the stalls

Huge parts of the internet went offline on the 2nd of June, caused by issues at Google.
The outages led to massive disruptions among some of the most popular tools on the web, including YouTube, Snapchat, and even Google Drive. Yes, the cloud went down too (again).
Since Google technology powers a massive number of websites and services, including Uber, Vimeo, and Discord, there were disruptions all over the web. For many, the outage was a considerable inconvenience, affecting people specifically in the East Coast of America, but also in locations across Europe too.
The Google outage is now fully resolved according to official reports. Here’s hoping that similar issues don’t disrupt us again too soon in the future.

Intel Chip Patch on Older Computers, Tablets & Smartphones- Update June 4th 2019
It is now evident all the big tech players are supporting the current patch, despite it slowing affected Intel processors significantly. Microsoft, Apple and all major Linux distros have released their version of the patch. It also appears that more computers have this problem than was initially announced. It is NOT limited to Win 7 and earlier versions of Windows, as I previously quoted from early press releases. It very likely is present in most modern era Intel chips, even those being made today. It takes a long time to retool a processor making facility. Some tech experts go so far as to say, “On May 14, 2019, a new class of Intel CPU vulnerabilities was published by the microchip giant. Known as speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, they affect almost every Intel processor produced since 2011 – this includes a great number of servers, laptops, smartphones,…”

Thus there is no avoiding the patch. No better patch is on the horizon. Turn Updates back on if you followed my earlier advice to turn updates off. A slow, safe computer is better than a fast, infected computer.  The best we can do now is keep our computers well maintained and updated.
New Tech Purchases: I would advise anyone looking to buy a new computer, tablet or smartphone to only buy the newest models they can find if Intel Chips are used. Or buy a device with AMD or ARM processor chips. So far, AMD and ARM chips have not suffered from the chip flaws and remain safe. How to tell what chip a device has? Most laptops, not all, have a sticker with INTEL or AMD near the keyboard. Other devices will say INTEL or AMD or ARM on the carton. If in doubt, ask the salesman to show you the date-of-manufacture and Chip-maker’s stickers or check the model’s Official Manufacturer’s specs/details page on the internet. Many “on sale” and budget models, especially loss-leaders sold at the big discount shops, have sat in warehouses for a year or 2. The older it is, the more likely it will get the “slow down” chip flaw patch update as soon as you do the first updates after setup. The newer it is the less it will slow down after doing the chip-patch updates.

Choir: A couple of years ago, we had a small choir running successfully in Torrox Costa. It was called Amicorum. For various reasons – we lost the venue, people moved away, there was no keyboard available, and I moved up to the Viñuela area – we were forced to stop. I have to drive to Torrox and Nerja in future and would like to resurrect this group if anyone is interested.
The choir was different from a couple of other notable ones in that participants needed to be able to read music and ideally have some experience of singing one voice per part. We sang all sorts of music, from 16th century English and Italian madrigals to modern Spanish song, via negro spirituals, Christmas carols, and rounds.
If you are interested in singing, or can provide a venue (we sang in a room in a private house), or a keyboard for rehearsal, please do contact me. Also let me know what voice you sing (SATB). Many thanks, Mike (Viñuela).

Casa Magel: My wife and I have just returned from a two night break at Casa Magel which is regularly advertised on this site. Well there is an old saying “If something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is”. Absolutely not the case here. For just €110 we had 2 nights at a lovely country cottage with a great pool and shady relaxation area with armchairs and settee.T he breakfast was superb and the dinner with a bottle of wine was restaurant standard. Add to this the beautiful countryside and lovely hosts and you just wonder how they do it for the price. We will certainly be returning again soon.

-Cortana Personal Assistant is a huge energy hog and data collector. You can speed up your computer performance and increase your security by disabling it. Be sure to make a System Restore Point before changing these settings in case you make an error in the process and need to undo it. Info and instructions here:

-Copying web content into Word or Excel. If you are pasting text (not pics or graphics)  from a web page into Word or Excel, and find that it’s incorrectly formatted, try pasting it into Notepad first where the format will be converted to plain text automatically, and then copying it from there and pasting it into Word, Excel or other word processor program. I have to do this with every DigameXtra submission since the default formats in most major email providers do not display correctly in the WordPress Editor tool. That doubles the issue setup time for me, but looks so much better it’s worth the effort.
-Do you miss the old options that appeared when you right-clicked a Taskbar button? You can make them reappear by holding down the Ctrl + Shift keys as you right-click.
-If Windows Search is not accurately finding files or folders that you know are there, then it may be time to rebuild its index. You can do that by clicking Start, typing Index, and then clicking Indexing Options. It will open up the Control Panel entry, where you can go to Advanced > Rebuild and let it re-index, this will take a while, be patient and don’t use the computer while it is re-indexing. Torrox Spanish History Group: Our next talk be on the 4th of June and our speaker will be Peter Afendoulis whose talk will be on Queen Isabella of Spain. We are all looking forward to Peter’s talk. Peter is an experienced speaker and there is always a twist at the end of his talks which always make us laugh and we very much enjoyed the last one he gave. It was entitled “How Christopher Columbus Invented the British Navy”!!
We have enjoyed some very interesting coach trips. I gave a talk on Gerald Brenan’s life and so the groups next trip will be to Yegan in the Alpujarras to visit the village where Gerald Brenan lived for many years and where members of the Bloomsbury group visited him on several occasions.
There will not be any meetings during the months of July and August as it is very hot, and also a lot of people go home or have visitors during this period. So after our meeting in June the next meeting will take place on the 3rd of September.
The Torrox Spanish History group meet every first Tuesday of the month at 11am. The meetings are held at the resturant El Parquesol in El Morche.

Recommendations

Menu del Dia in Torrox Costa: Our favourite place for menu del dia in Torrox Costa is Bar Avenida on Avenida El Faro (just beyond the Tails charity shop on the road down to the lighthouse). 3 course meal (half a dozen or so choices per course) with chappata bread roll plus the drink of your choice for 9 euro. The starters are very good (the fish noodle soup is excellent), main courses are tasty although not very large and the dessert selection is very good including cheesecake, ‘proper’ tiramisu etc.
When fancying a change from Spanish food we also like the menu del at Ichibans on the paseo (Asian fusion) – they have one 3 course meal at 7.95 euro and another either a euro cheaper or dearer (sorry can’t remember which).

Wanted: Finding Garden Pebbles. I would like to find somewhere between Nerja and Torre del Mar who sell pebbles for my garden ( the sort that you find on the beaches, flat and multicoloured).

Recommendation Phil Stockton – Plastering and damp services: We have just had some extensive plastering and damp-proofing work done in our pueblo townhouse by Phil Stockton, who covers the Digamextra area. He came very highly recommended to us. We have to say that Phil totally exceeded our expectations. Apart from being an expert in his trade, he is extremely professional, punctual and takes a major interest in the problem that needs to be solved. I can’t recall having ever met a more diligent tradesman than Phil.

Medical Appointments Problems: Yesterday I had an appointment with a dentist in Algarrobo. When I turned up it was to find that the surgery was an empty shell with six builders in it. Nobody had let me know.
Last week my husband had an appointment with the doctor at El Morche. I booked it online with Salud Responde as I have done many times before. After a long wait we were told he wasn’t on the list, despite having a printed confirmation. This is the second time this has happened. Has anybody else had a problem with this online booking system recently? I prefer it but I am losing confidence in it.
