Red Cross – Special Event, 1 March
Organised by ‘La Cruz Roja’ (The Red Cross), Open Door is a sociable club offering a range of pleasure and leisure activities and opportunities to learn and meet new people. It is aimed at retired, English-speaking residents of any nationality, is free of charge and run by volunteers. It is held every 2 weeks on a Friday from 12 till 2 pm at the Centro de Mayores, Torrox Pueblo
At our next meeting we will have a speaker, Steve Heugh, who will talk about his life in the RAF and we’d like to extend an invitation to anyone in the area who would like to come along to hear what should be an interesting and enjoyable session. Steve joined the RAF at 16 and during a long career was posted to many different places in the UK plus Germany and Cyprus before he left to join the Police. The details are:-

Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History Group had a very successful first year with talks which were wide ranging, from the Palaeolithic era; the Jews in Spain and Christoper Columbus as well as the Romans in Spain and we have more to look forward to in 2019!
Our first talk of the year was held on the 5th February. Our speaker was Helen Vernon who gave a talk on the “The History of Spices in Spain” Helen has a degree in History; a certificate in Egyptology and is currently studying for a diploma in Egyptology.
Our talk in March will be on the “History of Malaga Wine” by Jane (Cranmer) whose interests are in the production of wine and wine tasting. A trip to a vineyard will be arranged at a later date to be able to see how wine is produced and also sample some of the wine that Jane will be talking about!
Our talk in April will be on Queen Isobella of Spain and in May Joan Fallon the well known Scottish author will be giving another one of her excellent talks.
In April the group are going by coach to Italica and we will also be visiting the Monasterio of San Isodoro del Campo which lies 1.5 kilometres from Italica. There are more coach trips planned throughout the year.
Also we are fortunate enough to have an experienced lecturer among our members and we will be having our second workshop on Monday for people who wish to know or pick up a few tips on how to present a lecture.
The Torrox Spanish History Group meets every first Tuesday of the month at El Parquesol in El Morche at 11am.

They picked up our belongings for us in England, brought them over to Southern Spain, stored them until we had moved into our house in Torrox Pueblo, and then delivered them to us (up two steep flights of steps) exactly when we were ready for them. They kept us completely informed during the whole process of collection and delivery, we don’t know what we would have done without them. Next week I brought my wife Anna and she enjoyed it also. We have now attended the Wednesday Intermediate class for 4 weeks now and will continue. We have coffee and sit around with Suzi and other students for an hour and have a different topic every week. All useful discussions of what you really need to know. Looking for Skilled Handyman: I am looking for recommendations for an excellent handyman/carpenter. I’m in La Herradura and, unfortunately, lost my trusted and reasonably priced handyman. He will be hard to replace.
Most important qualities I am looking for: reliable, skilled, trustworthy, and reasonably priced. English speaking would be ideal, however we can manage with Spanish speaking as long as all of the above qualities are present. The jobs are varied, ranging from simple handyman projects to more complex remodeling jobs.

Dog walkers wanted: Tail Torrox Dog Refuge is situated near the costa on the other side of the road from Lidl. We have over 80 dogs and pups at the refuge and we never have enough people to walk them. If you have some spare time we would really appreciate your visit. We particularly need able bodied walkers who can handle some of the bigger dogs. All dogs come with harnesses and we are sure you will get a lot of pleasure from their company.

O’Learys Irish Bar, Torrox Costa: 11 months, that’s how long we’ve been open and to have reached 2000 likes and follows in that time is nothing short of humbling! From mentions on Irish radio, regular customers from more countries then we thought possible and to people contacting us 3 months before they come on holiday just to get our music line ups, we just can’t believe how far our tiny little bar seems to reach!

Vetiver Spain of Sayalonga:
We have potted Vetiver of different sizes and also in trays of multiple plants that we have grown in our greenhouses for sale. They are more mature plants which will establish quickly in colder climates. They are for pick up only due to their weight. We also have the normal slips available as usual. Malagalingo Spanish Language School:
Free Spanish cinema series (short films) every Thursday afternoon in Malagalingo Spanish Language School
Starting on February, every Thursday at 6:30 pm you can come to Malagalingo to watch for free a Spanish short film with an approximate duration of between 10 and 20 minutes.
All of them will be in Spanish language and with subtitles in Spanish when it is possible to find them or with English subtitles when it is not possible.
At the end of the short film until 7:30 pm we will also have a little chat in spanish to comment on the film and practice a little Spanish language
You are all invited to attend for free every Thursday (UNTIL FULL CAPACITY).
We are in Torrox Costa, just opposite Mercadona and BBVA, in the main entrance door that is between MAPFRE and ÓPTICA SALTO, in the first floor. Until 2008 Maren Wellendorf lived in the art village Worpswede in Germany. Ten years ago she established her studio near Torrox. Her painings had been showed in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Bremen and Malaga. During the last two years she started a new series called “Rockfaces”. It is the result of studying the changing morphology of the mountains/landscape, but in details. The breaking rocks show the running time and life in slow motion, the transiency.
“My paintings show the structures, the lines and forms, of a visual reality. I call it realistic structuralism.”

Craig has been raising money for many different charities by walking long distances over many years.
Like the previous charities this one is extremely important as it helps our veterans through very tough times and especially through the crisis of being homeless.

The Nerja Players: Hobson’s Choice
This well-known comedy has long been a favourite with theatre companies and audiences alike. Written by Harold Brighouse it was first produced in America in 1915 and at the Apollo theatre, London, the following year. In 1954 it was made into a BAFTA Award winning film, starring Charles Laughton as Hobson with John Mills and Prunella Scales in her first film role.
Set in Salford, near Manchester, in 1880, it features the larger-than-life character, Henry Hobson, a prosperous bootmaker and his three daughters. Despite the Victorian setting the play resonates with current attitudes as Hobson’s overbearing attitude to his daughters and declared misogyny are tamed by the feisty eldest of the three, Maggie. At the same time she takes the timid and self-effacing Willie Mossop in hand and moulds him into a confident, self-assured and successful business man.

She understands basic commands and is young enough to still receive some more training. She is house trained.
Bonny is very good at defending her home. She can be left on her own in the house whilst you go about your business with no problem. In return she would be happy in a Campo home with a garden or land so she can have a good run around. She is microchipped and has her passport.
