Kitty Harri’s Sculpture Garden Celebration Sunday Nov 4th: Come and join us for a special day on Sunday as we celebrate Nick’s official entry into retirement and offer a 10% reduction in the price on selective works of art.

The Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History group will not be meeting on the 6th at our usual meeting place in the El Parquesol restaurant, instead we are going on a coach trip to the Medina Azahara which lies just outside of Cordoba. The Medina was built by Abd-ar-Rahman III c912-961, the first Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba. The city includes ceremonial reception halls, mosque, administrative and government offices, gardens and workshops as well as baths.
In December we will be meeting on the 4th and Keith (Rockall) will give his final talk on the Romans and I will give an overview of my talk on Federica Garthia Lorca. I will go into more detail at a later date. This is with a view to organising a coach trip to where Lorca was born; where he grew up and where he was shot as well as where he was supposed to be buried although recent excavations of the site have not revealed any trace of Lorca. If there is time we will also visit the Federico Garvia Lorca Park, situated in the municipality of Alfacar where it is believed he was assassinated in 1936.

Book signing by local author: Local author John Hardy will be selling signed copies of his books at the TAIL dog show at El Barco in Torrox on Sunday 4th November from 11 am.

‘Malaga Mysteries’ – short stories of crime and mystery set in this part of Spain.
‘East Side Stories’ – set in the UK from Hadrian’s Wall to the Thames.
‘Sedella – the Story of a Spanish Village’ – a history of a village from prehistoric times to the present day, a mixture of historical facts and stories to illustrate them.
‘The Queen’s Agent’- a novel set at the time of Elizabeth I during the build up of the Spanish Armada, set in London and Santiago de Compostela.

Editor Suggests: Computer Artificial Intellegence (AI) Lie Detectors Coming to EU Travel Hubs! A number of border control checkpoints in the European Union are about to get increasingly—and unsettlingly—futuristic. In Hungary, Latvia, and Greece, travelers will be given an automated lie-detection test—by an animated AI border agent. The virtual border control agent will ask travelers questions after they’ve passed through the checkpoint. Questions include, “What’s in your suitcase?” and “If you open the suitcase and show me what is inside, will it confirm that your answers were true?” according to New Scientist. The system reportedly records travelers’ faces using AI to analyze 38 micro-gestures, scoring each response. The virtual agent is reportedly customized according to the traveler’s gender, ethnicity, and language. For travelers who pass the test, they will receive a QR code that lets them through the border. If they fail the virtual agent will reportedly get more serious, and if the AI remains suspicious the traveler will be handed off to a human agent. Bad News For iPhone and SmartWatch Fans:
-Hacked! It’s only been a day since Apple released iOS 12.1 and an iPhone enthusiast in Spain has managed to find a passcode bypass hack, once again, that could allow anyone to see all contacts’ private information on a locked iPhone. So simple it’s scary considering how Apple claims to be very secure! Selling easily hacked €1000 mobiles won’t impress the shareholders. -Bricked! Apple has pulled an update for its smartwatches after many owners complained the software had caused their devices to stop working. The problem appears to have baffled Apple’s repair staff, and there’s no way at present for owners to restore the products themselves. They have been told they need to send in the devices for a fix. Since Apple Repair has no fix for the smartwatches yet these are probably being replaced, not repaired.
