Recommendations

DoctorLaptop’s Windows 10 Alert- WIN 10 v1904 Creator’s Update Arrives Next Month:
Most user problems with Windows 10 are update related. Win 10 updates cannot be ignored without inviting trouble. You cannot turn them off, and if not kept current, when they do get downloaded and installed, they will often get installed out of order, leading to system crashes. Besides these weekly updates Win 10 does a twice a year major update known as the Creator’s Updates (yr/month designated “Versions”- v1703, v1709, v1803, v1809). It is very important to have all your weekly updates installed before you allow the Creator’s Update to proceed. Missing prerequisite updates can cause Creator Updates to fail. If that failure happens after the install gets past the 50% complete mark all restore points and rollbacks will have been deleted, requiring a complete reinstall to fix! Have you made a System Image backup to reinstall from? Probably not, most don’t. Creator Updates are huge, 5+Gb and take up to 2hrs to install after the download.
Now here is the problem:
-Many users are still on v1803, considered active but nearly out of service. Falling behind happens if you always shut down your comp when not in use; Win Updater looks for times the comp is on but not in use for an extended period in which to do Updates. I recommend leaving Win 10 comps on overnight once every 2 weeks, with no programs running, if you always shut down when not using it. Also do this on any WIN 10 comps you may have in storage if you expect them to run well when needed. Windows 10 does not like to be ignored!
-v1809 is the current “version” most users should be at by now
-v1904 is due out NEXT MONTH!
You will NOT be able to jump directly from v1803 to v1904 without using a special tool (see Step 5)
What to do: Check your Win 10 version.
1. Open up the Run command window with the Win + R key combo
2. Type in winver into the run command text box and hit OK
3. Your Version of Win 10 will be displayed
4. If you are stuck on v1803 you may have missing prerequisites or system corruption, continue to Step 5 to do a combo repair/update to v1809. If you are on v1809 then you are up to date.
5. Visit this site and follow the step by step procedure, with photos of every step and a clickable link to download the tool required. It’s actually very simple and quick to run the download tool, but expect the subsequent installation process to take several hours on a fast connection, all day on a very slow connection.

BOTTOM LINE: If you rely on your computer for important daily activities, and you are running v1803, you still have time, but you need to take action to avoid serious issues this Summer.

Soul is looking for his forever home. He is a youthful 9yr old Dalmatian with a wonderful loving character. He was surrendered to the pound by his owner in August 2018 and was taken out by Give a Dog a Home Rescue (Puente Don Manuel) on the promise of a new home. Pets

PET OWNERS have been warned to keep an eye out for processionary caterpillars after sightings on the Costa del Sol. A local Fuengirola information page has reported on Facebook the sighting of the dangerous caterpillars next to the river between Fuengirola and Los Boliches.
Dogs are particularly susceptible as they will pick up the hairs on their paws and then lick them as they start to itch. This then leads to the hairs being transferred on to the animal’s tongue and can result in itching, swelling, vomiting and even death. Vetiver Spain of Sayalonga:
We have potted Vetiver of different sizes and also in trays of multiple plants that we have grown in our greenhouses for sale. They are more mature plants which will establish quickly in colder climates. They are for pick up only due to their weight. We also have the normal slips available as usual. We can easily ship those if needed.
Check out our new addition of “Buttons” on our home page. They have information on planting, best time to plant, A “Vetiver Introduction Letter” with a load of information and of course more photos and videos related to the use of Vetiver.
The best time to plant Vetiver is between now and the end of March. This way the plant gets the benefit of a long hot summer. Remember that Vetiver is indigenous to India and loves the heat. Vetiver can be planted all summer long.
We are also taking orders for Moringa Trees that we have been growing in the greenhouses. There is a limited supply so place your orders soon. Red Cross – Special Event, 1 March
Organised by ‘La Cruz Roja’ (The Red Cross), Open Door is a sociable club offering a range of pleasure and leisure activities and opportunities to learn and meet new people. It is aimed at retired, English-speaking residents of any nationality, is free of charge and run by volunteers. It is held every 2 weeks on a Friday from 12 till 2 pm at the Centro de Mayores, Torrox Pueblo
At our next meeting we will have a speaker, Steve Heugh, who will talk about his life in the RAF and we’d like to extend an invitation to anyone in the area who would like to come along to hear what should be an interesting and enjoyable session. Steve joined the RAF at 16 and during a long career was posted to many different places in the UK plus Germany and Cyprus before he left to join the Police. The details are:-

Torrox Spanish History Group: The Torrox Spanish History Group had a very successful first year with talks which were wide ranging, from the Palaeolithic era; the Jews in Spain and Christoper Columbus as well as the Romans in Spain and we have more to look forward to in 2019!
Our first talk of the year was held on the 5th February. Our speaker was Helen Vernon who gave a talk on the “The History of Spices in Spain” Helen has a degree in History; a certificate in Egyptology and is currently studying for a diploma in Egyptology.
Our talk in March will be on the “History of Malaga Wine” by Jane (Cranmer) whose interests are in the production of wine and wine tasting. A trip to a vineyard will be arranged at a later date to be able to see how wine is produced and also sample some of the wine that Jane will be talking about!
Our talk in April will be on Queen Isobella of Spain and in May Joan Fallon the well known Scottish author will be giving another one of her excellent talks.
In April the group are going by coach to Italica and we will also be visiting the Monasterio of San Isodoro del Campo which lies 1.5 kilometres from Italica. There are more coach trips planned throughout the year.
Also we are fortunate enough to have an experienced lecturer among our members and we will be having our second workshop on Monday for people who wish to know or pick up a few tips on how to present a lecture.
The Torrox Spanish History Group meets every first Tuesday of the month at El Parquesol in El Morche at 11am.

Looking for Skilled Handyman: I am looking for recommendations for an excellent handyman/carpenter. I’m in La Herradura and, unfortunately, lost my trusted and reasonably priced handyman. He will be hard to replace.
Most important qualities I am looking for: reliable, skilled, trustworthy, and reasonably priced. English speaking would be ideal, however we can manage with Spanish speaking as long as all of the above qualities are present. The jobs are varied, ranging from simple handyman projects to more complex remodeling jobs.

Dog walkers wanted: Tail Torrox Dog Refuge is situated near the costa on the other side of the road from Lidl. We have over 80 dogs and pups at the refuge and we never have enough people to walk them. If you have some spare time we would really appreciate your visit. We particularly need able bodied walkers who can handle some of the bigger dogs. All dogs come with harnesses and we are sure you will get a lot of pleasure from their company.
