INR Tests in the Torrox Area

A month or so back there were a couple of posts concerning INR Tests for takers of Warfarin in the Torrox area.. there was mention of a Pharmacy in Torrox Costa that could do these on the spot and were also able to give adjustment to medication if required. Can the person who posted (or anyone for that matter)  tell me the name and location on this pharmacy please? I am in Torrox Pueblo and none of the pharmacies around here can do it.

I attend a clinic in Almunecar that does it at the moment but it means two trips, one to get the blood test done and then a return to get the results.

Bad Link to Classical Music Site Clarification

First of all, the very first line of every issue of Digamextra says, “The content of this site comes from its Subscribers.” Jane is far too busy to check every submitted link. So while Mike C. said, “I should know not to click on links, I suppose, but thought Digame would be ‘clean’”, I don’t think Mike should be blaming Digamextra. The submitter apparently left a hyphen out of the address he gave. I will explain.

Mike C. said in his 17Dec post: “Being a sometime classical musician I was very interested in this post and immediately clicked on the link given. Beware! It is full of malware and immediately took me to porn websites…”

Actually there was no clickable “link” given in the original post from Geoff regarding this classical music site, he only stated an “address”, and yes, that address www.classicalmusic.com is a malware infected porn redirector. A google search shows a BBC sponsored classical music site at www.classical-music.com. So I suspect a typo by Geoff was to blame. Or else the site has been hijacked since Geoff last visited it. Mike is correct that if you did visit the infected site you should use Ccleaner or a similar tool to clear your browser of any traces the infected site may have placed on your computer. There are many free link checker sites available to check link safety before visiting. However I checked the offending address with several and none listed this site as a risk! So while the address may have been safe in the past it has now been hijacked. Unfortunately the hijacking of websites is rather common. All I can add is, let the surfer beware and be sure your antivirus has “browser protection” enabled!

Complaints about Phone Companies

Several years ago we tried changing from what was then Telefonica to Jazztel.   The latter left us without any phone line at all for two months, so finally we went back to Telefonica (using a different number).  We made a complaint about Jazztel through the OMIC office in Vélez (Oficina Municipal de Información al Consumidor). With their help the problem was resolved and the money charged to our bank account by Jazztel refunded.  Once our old telephone number was released by Jazztel it was restored to us by Telefonica.

I also know of the Defensor del Pueblo through the experience of a friend.  The nearest equivalent for Brits would be The Ombudsman.

Dog re-homing, Urgent!

Hello to everyone, my dog allergy is getting worse and even though my beautiful girls live outside I cannot constantly keep taking antihistamines and eye and nose drops so sadly I need to re-home my 2 girls. They are very well behaved and affectionate, they love running in the campo and on the beach and although they are sisters they have very different personalities. All vaccines up to date and they are sterilised.

AAR would like to thank everyone who responded to the appeal for foster homes for the puppies in a field. We now have foster homes lined up for all the pups  and are in the process of catching the remaining puppy. We are also hoping to catch and neuter mum

Spanish Bureaucracy & Service

I read the town hall saga, and after buying a house just outside Nerja, my wife and I have also jumped through many hoops to pacify Spanish beurocrats. By all accounts we were  very lucky, due to a very clever estate agent. It is all very frustrating.

At the moment we have no telephone, no internet, no email and no TV. My handicapped wife has been without for almost a month. We comitted the terrible crime of attempting to change to a more reliable tele operator, following a recommendation in Digame.
Jazztell refuse to release the telephone number, but they have cut off the connection to our house in El Campo. It is not possible to communicate with Jazztell if you do not speak Spanish, but even our Spanish speaking friends, including our solicitor and the local “Gestoria” have been unable to help.
Naturally Jazztell  still help themselves to our bank account, but that will change later this morning.
So beurocracy and a total unwillingness to help appears to be “the norm” in Spain, whether it be government or private sectors. Good luck with the the town hall, you may need it, but hope it is all sorted out in the end.

In the UK I had my own computer company for 15 years, fixing PCs, laptops with hardware and software issues and I am looking at offering this service in Competa, Canillas de Albaida , Archez and surrounding areas. I know there are a few computer repair companies in the Nerja area offering similar services, however when I have spoken to locals they have said that if someone was more local and could actually fix the PC/Laptop in their own home they would be interested in such a service. I have a vehicle here in Canillas and so could offer such a service. If such an advert would be possible that would be fantastic.

Lastly I would like to thank you on your website, and for running such a site, I have found it an excellent resource since moving here.

Recommendation –  Headlight Cleaner: Response

(1) Hi Eddy, You can use toothpaste instead of headlight cleaner, it works really well.

(2)

The best and the cheapest cleaner for this job is toothpaste and a damp kitchen paper towel. Wet the headlight first then apply a little of the toothpaste to the paper towel. Rub the headlight, with the paper towel, in circular motions. It should only take a short time to bring the lens back to new.  John L.

 

 

Recommendation Wanted Air Conditioning

We have a 3 bedroom villa in Torrox campo, which is rented out to holiday makers. We have, until now, resisted to have air conditioning units installed which we believe are expensive to run, especially to holiday makers who may be in the habit of leaving them on whilst leaving doors open or indeed going out for the day!

Can anyone recommend a reliable company to install these units for us that would suit our needs?

Just had my car valeted by a guy named Warren, who I found on Digame.

The car was looking very tired with marks on the body and the inside hadn’t been cleaned properly for years.

When Warren returned the car it was like having a new car.

Chantar Alba has won the award at the 5th Exhibition of Young Int é M usic interpreters of Malaga Antigua and earned Honorable Mention in the II and III Competition of Lied and Song Concert “FidelaCampi NA”.

It has been selected by the World Youth Choir to participate in their world tour. Part of the group Chapel Maestro Iribarren, has worked with the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Malaga, the Chamber Orchestra of the University of Malaga, Assembly Elegance … and soon act as a soloist with the Orchestra Filarmóunique M Alaga and sinfo Orchestra nica órdoba C.

Antonio Moreno, Malaga young pianist, won an Honorable Mention in the Young Int interpreters é M Alaga and has participated as a soloist with the Orchestra of Fuengirola, the de Tarifa.

Participates as an organist with the Opera Chorus of Malaga with which he plays Liszt’s Requiem and win the vig third sample E Simo Youth Ma lagaCrea 2012 with Chantar Alba.

Missing Cat    

One of our young male cats has been missing since Monday night.

Last seen Montesol area of Torrox Park.  He is micro chipped, 13 months old and is called Muffin.

Picture attached of him with his almost identical brother (who keeps looking for him), but Muffin is identifiable by ginger marking on his left front leg.

Any information as to his whereabouts would be greatly appreciated

UK Postal Voting forms

Recently in Digame, Keith (still travellin’ int’ rain) suggested that UK Postal Voting forms could be requested to be sent out by e-mail in order to receive them in Spain “almost instantly”, leaving sufficient time for them to be posted back to the UK.

I have checked with my local Electoral Registration Office in the UK and they state that this is not possible by law?

Could Keith please clarify where he obtained the information that this was indeed possible, as it sounds like the perfect solution to getting postal votes back to the UK in time, and would help many of us overcome this problem.

How to lodge a complaint concerning a town hall

Are town halls above the law? Arenas town hall is refusing to issue a paper demanded by catastro despite all the hoops being jumped through and payments made. My friend cannot sell his house without this paper. His house is legal but catastro changed the border which meant he is now in Arenas and not Algarrobo. He has paid out a fortune on lawyers and papers to correct something that was no fault of his.
It has taken nearly 3 years and now all is completed bar this one piece of paper. Arenas gives no reason as to why they won’t issue it apart from ” we will not co operate.”
The lawyer just shrugs and says that’s that and he doesn’t know why but seems reluctant to do anything about it.
I speak fairly fluent Spanish and will confront Arenas bureaucrats.
It would help if I knew his rights and how best to tackle a very stubborn, obdurate and unreasonable town hall.

Do they have to have a complaints book as most businesses must have by law?
Thanks for any suggestions anyone can make.

Being a sometime classical musician I was very interested in this post and immediately clicked on the link given. Beware! It is full of malware and immediately took me to porn websites. I closed and re-tried, but it still took me to (different) porn sites. I should know not to click on links, I suppose, but thought Digame would be ‘clean’. I tried simply typing ‘www.classicalmusic.com‘ into the address bar but met with the same result yet again.
All is not what it seems, on the internet in general and not even on Digame in particular! I wonder how many people have already fallen foul of this?

What’s On Free Circuit Training Sessions – Competa

We are running FREE circuit training fitness sessions in Competa every Sunday at 10am. Circuit training is a great way to get fit in a fun environment. We have 8-10 fitness stations which you stay on for 1 minute at a time before moving on to the next with motivational music to help you exercise. A station may be a core, upper or lower body exercise that you take at your own pace.

Suitable for all fitness levels and adult ages. It will be an held on an outside terrace so dress appropriately and bring hydration/water and a towel.  Full instruction will be given by a qualified personal trainer. The session will last an hour and guaranteed to make you sweat! Why not start you New Years resolution and get fit in 2016?

Foster Care Urgently Needed    

PLEASE HELP. The three pups here are all in foster care. There are four more living in a field. They are only six weeks old and it is cold at night. We can only help them if we can find foster homes for them. We have an offer for two weeks temporary foster for one, so if anyone can foster after Christmas we can rescue another today.

The little girl at the front of the photo is Ivy. She has been poorly and on a drip at the vets. If we hadn’t rescued her when we did she wouldn’t be alive now.

She is now doing well and is absolutely gorgeous. Fostering literally saves lives.                We have crates and will pay all expenses.

PLEASE help us get the remaining four pups to safety.

Spanish driving licence – rule change

My husband and I both have UK driving licences with plenty of time on them before they need renewing. We intend to change to Spanish licences, but have heard that the change needs to be done before the end of December, as there has been a rule change? We became Spanish residents in January 2014.

I have searched Digame and can’t see any previous advice, other than the process to follow in terms of the medical and documentation needed.

Traffic Fines

B A shouldn’t worry too much about unpaid traffic fines increasing. They will stay on file, Trafico has an excellent database of all vehicles, owners and addresses. It’s up to you to make sure it’s updated though.

If you get stopped you will then have to pay everything in one go. Mobile Guardia Civil can access all the info at the roadside. Same if you go to transfer ownership,

Non EU Import Duty 

I can sympathise with Victor concerning the import of goods from outside the EU

I own two American cars and often have to order items from the US etc, I generally use Amazon.com, eBay.com and direct with suppliers.

If the duty is not pre-paid and the value of the goods exceed 22€ not including shipping then your package will be stopped and delayed in Madrid, in my experience this is generally 2-3 weeks, you will then receive the letter that Victor explained, it is relatively easy to e-mail all the information to them at www.adtpostales.com you will need to complete the form received with the following information:

Telephone number, e-mail address, NIE number, description of the goods, dated and signed.

Then you will have to scan the document to your computer. You will also need a scan of your NIE and the invoice for the goods.

The go to the web site and click the ‘Aportación de documentación’ tab and follow the instructions (in Spanish obviously). Attach your scans and submit. You will need to register the very first time but not for subsequent visits.

You can then track the progress of your shipment until it is at your local Correos where you will pay the duty upon collection. Be aware that along with 21% of the total price including shipping they will add a ‘handling charge’ which is usually around 15€.

If at all possible use ebay.com and order through a seller who is part of the Global Shipping Program (GSP), the duty is paid at checkout, thus negating any hold up at Madrid and also no handling charge is added, so it is cheaper and faster!

Traffic Fines

I had registered with tienesmultas.com to be notified in case I am fined.  I got an email out of the blue showing five fines, but on closer inspection, there were  only 3 fines, with repeated entries.  The site wants your (or my) business and suggest you contact them to sort out the fines.  I, however, went to the official Trafico site and using the reference numbers from the fines issued on tienesmulta to check them out and found that it was not a scam, and that I was issued with the fines.  I am currently in UK and do not know what the fine are for, but decided to pay them online through the official site,  www.dgt.es , rather than wait to check them out and possibly contest them, since the fines would probably just increase with time.
Different sites have been quoted in Digame, and I assume they all access the same official records, and are legit.  This does not necessarily mean that the fines themselves are correct, but in that case you need to sort that out with Trafico (many motor insurance policies cover that).    B.A.

 

 

Airports

I noticed an e mail from Wendy regarding Stansted airport. She then went on to talk about Bristol and Exeter.
If Essex is her preferred destination she could do a lot worse than try the Easy Jet service to Southend.  Car hire is in the terminal building, with the cars being parked within 100m form the car hire desk.
The trains directly into Liverpool Street (45mins) are within the same distance. I have met people who live nearer to Stansted but choose Southend as they can be out of the airport and home in the time it takes to get through immigration at Stansted.
When it comes to airports big is not beautiful !!

There are several decent car parks in Fuengirola within a short walk from Specsavers. We always go to the one in the main square – Plaza de la Constitucion -. it is clean and well lit with a parking attendant.
It is worth the cost of parking to not worry about over staying in a limited parking street.

He actually installed a new boiler for us, which was much more efficient than the original one installed by the builder. He lives in Frigiliana; he’s reliable, efficient and very thorough. We have a contract with him to service our boiler once a year. We only speak a very little Spanish and he speaks some English, so we manage to understand each other.
