Nationality

I don’t have any information about applying for this but have recently signed a petition re dual nationality for British people who have lived in Spain for more than 10 years. If you Google “Giles Tremlett petition” you will get all the info and can sign the petition if you wish.

Rugby for Children

In response to the question about sport and clubs in the area for kids, there is no email address, so am responding to Digame in case there are other parents who might find this of interest.

There is a rugby team in Velez Malaga in the Fernando Hierro sports centre. They play every Tuesday and Thursday and there are a mix of nationalities.

The new season starts this Thursday at 7pm.

However, if this is a knee-jerk reaction to ‘Brexit’ I suggest that no-one should make rash decisions just yet. Whilst Spanish citizenship may be an option to some of us who speak fluent Spanish, for most it is not an option, in addition we would have to relinquish our British Citizenship, i.e. Passport etc, something that I am not prepared to do, the British passport is considered one of the most ‘valuable’ in the world.

For most of us with legal residency I really don’t think it will be an issue, it would be highly unlikely that Spain, the UK or any EU country for that matter would ‘expel’ existing aliens who have legal residence. Remember, before the UK joined the EEC in 1973 many people immigrated to various countries without issue.

It will be at least two years before we will know if there will be any impact on expats living in the EU, let’s not get too carried away with the ‘what-ifs’ etc and just keep on enjoying our life here.

Recommendation –Torrox graphic designer Rob Bell

A few weeks ago I sought a creative graphic designer through Digame to assist us in finalizing a logo and advert for a new international law firm based in Valencia, The Brexit Law Firm. As an amateur painter and professional photo-journalist and lawyer, I created a colour sketch of the design concept but needed someone fluent in PhotoShop to finalize and polish it. I found Robert (Rob) Bell, British citizen living in Torrox pueblo, who answered my Digame request with bravado, expanding on my concept with extraordinary talent and at an equally reasonable fee. Rob is also a professional photographer.

What’s on Exhibition in the Salon de Actos,  Competa. 

English textile artist Jo Dennison would like to invite you to her retrospective solo exhibition which has its 

inauguration Friday 23rd of September at 6.30pm.

She will give a brief talk on the subject matter of her works and how that has affected the different ways she choose to work.

This is a unique opportunity to view the work of an textile artist and to meet her personally, since she will be present & working on a textile art piece every day during the 3 weeks exhibition in the salon below the town hall.

What’s On – Juke Box Bandits

Hi folks, Jukebox Bandits are playing live at Plaza Almijara (main square) in Competa this coming Friday 16th September from 9.00pm.

Jukebox Bandits are a covers band consisting of Rod Jones on keyboards and Mitch France on acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, penny whistle and vocals.

They play an eclectic mix of pop, rock and folk standards from Britain, America, Ireland and Spain. From Dire Straits to The Dubliners, from Manu Chao to Jason Mraz. The music starts mellow (whilst people are eating), gradually picking up the tempo and culminating with the dance set including standards like Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl”, REM’s “Losing My Religion” and The Mavericks’ “Dance the Night Away”.
