What’s on-​ Certified First Aid Course      Certified Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Course (EFAW) in Competa on the 21st March at the Hotel Balcon in conjunction with Stockwood Consulting.   It is a one day course and the cost will be €95 and includes a certificate that is valid for 3 years.  All apparatus is provided.  Time: 10am to 5pm.   It covers life saving skills including CPR, choking and bleeding and use of an AED (defibrillator) – practical, hands on skills training. This is a one day first aid course aimed at lower risk environments and enabling first aiders to provide assistance to those who are ill or injured at work. It is also ideal if you want to know what to do in an emergency – especially if you live in an isolated area. What’s on –Basic Ceramic Modelling and Sculpting Workshop at Kitty Harri’s Sculpture Garden – Tuesday March 13th
Together with our Danish Artist-in-Residence Martin Nybo we are offering a one day (5 hour) course in modelling and sculpting figures in clay (on this occasion using a mould).
You will learn the basics of using clay materials as well as the techniques of modelling. You will also learn the basics of glazing, which will be applied to your model(s).   The pieces will be fired subsequently and you may pick them up at the Garden at a later date.
There will be a break for refreshment – please bring your own packed lunch.
The cost for the Workshop is 120€ including all materials.

What’s on Exhibition “Women and Weird Things” paintings, jewellery, objects
                                                                                                            This interesting mix of different art forms by Dutch artist Coby Bloemsma can be seen in Nerja, sala Municipal de Exposiciones in Calle Cristo 14 ( the post office street).
The exhibition is called “Women and Weird Things” because most of her paintings are of “Women” painted realistically or in abstract. The “Weird Things” are drift wood and paper maché objects, jewellery and a huge room divider with 6 panels, three Japanese geisha’s on one side and 3 fierce looking Japanese warriers on the other side.
The exhibition is from 16 to 30 March, open daily from 11.00-14.00h and 17.30-21.00h

We will not rush to teach you complicated steps. These lessons are for individuals or couples who want to better understand 1) the basics of the body moving to music, 2) how to center yourself, 3) how to establish your center of gravity, 4) how to transfer your weight gracefully 5) how to improve your posture, and 6) how to express in movements what the music conveys. Trip to Gibraltar 6th April 2018 – The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday 6th April. We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30. The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30. Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book. Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential. On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee. We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

Visit to Montillar and Lucena Cordoba Province 18th May
Lucena is situated on the Lucena River, a minor tributary of the Genil, on an important crossroads at the very center of Andalusia. In early times Lucena was inhabited almost exclusively by Jews who had arrived together with its founders; hence it was called “Jews’ City”, a nickname also applied to Granada and Tarragona. The Jews of Lucena, who carried on extensive trade and industries, were, according to the 11th-century Moslem geographer, Mohamed al-Edrisi, richer than those of any other city. They enjoyed the same freedom as their correligionists in the large Muslim cities. Their Rabbi, who was elected by the entire community, was granted special privileges and acted as judge in the civil and criminal cases arising in the community. The Jews lived peaceably until the Almoravides came into power.
Lucena was taken from the Moors in 1240 but it remained as frontier village for centuries. In fact, it was in the attempt to recapture it that King Boabdil of Granada was taken prisoner in 1483.
The parish church dates from the ending of the 15th century. Our Lady of Araceli is an image brought from Rome in the 16th century and is the patron of Lucena, canonically crowned in 1948.
The chief industries are the manufacture of furniture, industrial refrigerators, wine, bronze lamps and pottery, especially the large earthenware jars (tinajas) used in the past throughout Spain for the storage of oil and wine, some of which hold more than 300 gallons. Matches also used to be made there. There is considerable trade in agricultural produce.
Our visit includes Montillar – The olive oil of the district is abundant and good, and it is the peculiar flavour of the pale dry light wine of Montilla that gives its name to the sherry known as Amontillado. Montilla is the largest component of the Montilla-Moriles designated wine region. The large wineries Alvear and Gran Barquero are located in Montilla, which has an annualvendimia (wine-harvest) festival.

Forever the victim, Henry believes his wife is unfaithful, the gíte is surrounded by gunmen, Marcia is demented, and Norman rabid. Finally, his faithful wife resolves the crisis, bringing the hilarity to its moving conclusion.
This play is directed by Peter Burch with a cast of thousands and will be held at the premises of The Nerja Bridge Club at the top of Calle Castillo Perez 1 between Salon de Juegos and Nerja Realty. What’s on Certified First Aid Course?
We have the opportunity to put on a Certified Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Course (EFAW) in the Competa area in conjunction with Stockwood Consulting. It is a one day course and the cost will be €95. It covers life saving skills including CPR, choking and bleeding and use of an AED (defibrillator) – practical, hands on skills training. This is a one day first aid course aimed at lower risk environments and enabling first aiders to provide assistance to those who are ill or injured at work. It is also ideal if you want to know what to do in an emergency – especially if you live in an isolated area. This course could help you save a life.

Walking Friend Needed….       I am an almost blind 71 year old male. Having recently moved to Torrox Costa from the Campo .                                                              I have difficulty with navigation around my new environment.

Services Needed –Installation of the Most effective water filtration system available        I’ve grown tired of lugging home huge bottles of water from the market. I’d like to install a good water filtration system in my home in La Herradura. I’m a 50 year old writer/musician (acoustic singer/songwriter), and have wide-ranging skills in the field of health and wellbeing. I have studied yoga and meditation and also practice Qi Gong (Tai Chi).
I have trained in life coaching so it could be that someone requiring a bit of support/care might benefit from having me as a lodger. I am fluent in Spanish too. I have a current (and clean) drivers licence.
I’ve come to Spain for a change of lifestyle but already know Andalucia well, having lived in Seville and Alozaina (Malaga) for many winters. Ideally I’d like to find somewhere from the beginning of March…
