Unfortunately I have received some inaccurate info from well meaning 3rd parties which has caused problems. So now these businesses must submit their own posts, although I will in this case allow them to post even if they are not subscribers. -Ed.

Lockdown Extension Speech at Today’s Confirmation Hearings Delivers More Bad News: Speaking in the Spanish Congress on Thursday, prime minister Sánchez said that even after this current extension to the ‘state of alarm’ lockdown ends on 26 April, he is ‘convinced’ that he will have to ask for yet a further 15 days, which would prolong the end of the lockdown until Sunday 10 May!

Spanish Politics Headlines:
-President of the VOX Party Abascal calls for the resignation of Sánchez and Iglesias: Abascal reproaches the executive for trying to take advantage of this crisis to impose his “totalitarian delusions” and “communists” on all Spaniards. The Vox party’s proposed resolutions to the State of Alarm – which includes the resignation of the government – have been deemed unconstitutional and will not be voted on. Santiago Abascal’s party proposed the resignation of the current government and the formation of a ‘national emergency’ committee made up of members of the PSOE, PP and Vox. But Congress lawyers have dismissed the ‘solution,’ and the House of Representatives ruled out a vote. -Sánchez confirms the end of total confinement as of Monday? : The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has confirmed that starting next Monday what will be called total confinement will end with the conclusion of the recoverable paid leave while affirming that all steps towards the “new normal” will be “staggered and very cautious”. Despite the expected extension of the overall lockdown, the government was from Sunday to start easing some restrictions on businesses after shutting down all non-essential operations nearly two weeks ago. Lifting measures would be gradual and dependent on health data, Sanchez said.
Lockdown Extended But Benefits For the Most Vulnerable Get Cut? :  Sanchez gov’t announces it has gotten the lockdown extension approved, and in a decision that just defies logic, added that financial relief for the poorest sector will is NOT being extended, this before most of them have even received any benefit, provoking an uproar from the opposition parties. -Ed. -The Spanish government accelerates the annulment of ERTE for companies who have taken advantage during the Coronavirus crisis: SPAIN’S government is tightening the approvals of the temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) due to force majeure presented by many companies that are suffering the impact of the economic slowdown derived from Covid-19. According to official sources, the Ministry of Labour has overturned the employment adjustments presented by companies such as Financiera El Corte Inglés and Óptica 2000 and has raised many objections to those formalised by telephone service companies. Eurogroup agrees to billionaire measures against the impact of the coronavirus: On Thursday, it reached an agreement on a package of economic measures that will mobilize half a trillion euros in loans to support states, companies and workers in the face of the pandemic, after the Netherlands has agreed to ease access conditions to the rescue fund.
According to diplomatic sources, the agreement has been possible after the Netherlands has withdrawn its demand that access to the credit line that will mobilize the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), the rescue fund, is subject to the beneficiary countries complying macroeconomic conditions, such as structural reforms, extreme to which Italy and Spain refused.
The package of measures adopted consists of three pillars: a line of credit from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), the rescue fund, with € 240 billion in loans; a fund of the European Investment Bank with up to 200,000 million in loans for companies and a temporary fund against unemployment with 100,000 million for employment aid.

Internet Giant Google bans the use of video conferencing app Zoom over security worries: Search engine giant Google has banned video chat app Zoom from its employees’ laptops, the decision was taken because of security and privacy concerns about the way the app works. Zoom has been criticised for leaking its users’ information, making it relatively easy for people to engage in ‘zoombombing’ and crash into meetings, and failing to keep to promises that conversations are end-to-end encrypted to keep them private and secure. Boris Johnson has been moved out of ICU, is recovering slowly: WABC-AM Radio News.

Have you considered that from now on, in every video you see of commercial food preparation, the people will be wearing masks: One day your grandchildren will watch videos like this in disbelief. The times they are a changing…

Bill Gates will use microchip implants to fight coronavirus: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will launch human-implantable capsules that have ‘digital certificates’ which can show who has been tested for the coronavirus and who has been vaccinated against it.
Gates was responding to a question on how businesses will be able to operate while maintaining social distancing, and said that, “Eventually we will have some digital certificates to show who has recovered or been tested recently or when we have a vaccine who has received it.”
The ‘digital certificates’ Gates was referring to are human-implantable ‘QUANTUM-DOT TATTOOS’ that researchers at MIT and Rice University are working on as a way to hold vaccination records. It was last year in December when scientists from the two universities revealed that they were working on these quantum-dot tattoos after Bill Gates approached them about solving the problem of identifying those who have not been vaccinated.
The quantum-dot tattoos will likely be supplemented with Bill Gates’ other undertaking called ID2020, which is an ambitious project by Microsoft to solve the problem of over 1 billion people who live without an officially recognized identity. ID2020 is solving this through digital identity. Currently, the most feasible way of implementing digital identity is either through smartphones or RFID microchip implants. The latter will be Gates’s likely approach not only because of feasibility and sustainability, but also because for over 6 years, the Gates Foundation has been funding another project that incorporates human-implantable microchip implants. This project, also spearheaded by MIT, is a birth control microchip implant that will allow women to control contraceptive hormones in their bodies. Biometric IDs can be ‘gamechanger’ in coronavirus antibody tests, vaccine: April 8 (Thomson Reuters Foundation). As countries begin to lift coronavirus lockdowns, biometric identification can help verify those who have already had the infection, and ensure that the vulnerable get the vaccine when it is launched, health and technology experts said. We can biometrically identify the individual and tie them to the test results, as well as to a high security document. The person then has ‘non-refutable’ identification with proof that they have immunity due to antibodies in their system, and probably their entire medical history, travel documents, and eventually your money. Such systems can be abused by governments and private companies, according to digital rights groups which have raised concerns over the risk of increased surveillance. To prevent any abuse, there has to be certainty about what the data will be used for and for how long, and when it will be deleted. National governments don’t have a very good record of giving up new powers once a crisis has passed. Technology we use for disease surveillance today should not become tools for state surveillance at a later date. Spain’s Covid-19 fatalities soar again to 757 in just 24 hours taking total death toll to 14,555: After four days of registering fewer coronavirus (covid-19) fatalities, the death rate from the disease in Spain has soared again for the second consecutive day. Fernando Simón, Director of Centre of Heath Alerts & Emergencies at the Ministry of Health, insisted today that “we are on the way down”. “However, the number of people hospitalised and the number of serious cases in intensive care units have not been reduced as much as we would have liked,” he admitted. Today, the total number of people in intensive care in Spain have not actually been published. Updates for Covid-19 numbers have been coming in slower this week than in previous weeks, especially the Regional and Provincial figures. Spain will slowly return to “normal life” starting on April 26, says Finance Minister and government spokesperson María Jesús Montero: Technical experts will decide on the conditions of the gradual deescalation of confinement measures introduced to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
“We can’t take anything for granted right now, only that the extension of the state of alarm will last until April 26,” she said. “From that moment on, the relaxation [of the confinement orders] will happen progressively so that citizens can begin, in an orderly fashion, to return to normal life, to the streets, to the public squares.” The minister added that the lifting of the lockdown rules must be well planned and organized “so that there are no [new] peaks and infections.”
Montero said the government is working on “different scenarios” on how the confinement measures could be eased, but refused to go into further details until “the experts decide” on how to proceed. Spanish Politics Update- Here Come the Protests, Lockdown Style! :
Around 400,000 of Spain’s citizens are reported to have tuned into a Youtube programme calling for the resignation and prosecution of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez over the party’s ‘lies’ and ‘mishandling’ of the coronavirus crisis on Wednesday.
The presenters, some of whom are also supporters of the opposition party Vox, accused the Government of not taking adequate measures to protect the population from the pandemic, as well as hiding the real number of fatalities from the public. It also criticised Sanchez’ party of responding to the coronavirus crisis too late, and ignoring warnings when he allowed the March 8th International Women’s Day demonstrations to go ahead. They also highlighted the Ministry of Health’s incompetence of buying Covid-19 rapid tests that did not work from an unlicensed Chinese company and Sanchez’ unrealistic financial recovery plans amongst other gripes. The Head of the EU Scientific Committee resigns due to the lack of coordination with regards to the global Covid-19 pandemic: Mauro Ferrari, director of the EU scientific committee, has resigned due to the lack of coordination in response to the coronavirus and says he has “lost faith in the system. I am extremely disappointed with the European response to Covid-19,” announced Ferrari, director of the European Research Council (ERC), upon submitting his resignation. “I came to the ERC as a fervent defender of the European Union, the Covid-19 crisis has completely changed my point of view,” he said.
Ferrari pointed out in his statement that he arrived at the ERC with enthusiasm “for the great reputation of this world-leading funding agency” and for its “commitment to the idealistic dream of a united Europe. Those idealistic motivations were crushed by a very different reality during the brief three months since I took office,” says the researcher.
Ferrari, who admits to having “met many excellent and committed people” in the ERC and the Commission but points out that he simply has “lost faith in the system.”

Bernie Sanders Drops Out of 2020 Democratic Race for U.S. President: Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont dropped out of the Democratic presidential race on Wednesday, concluding a quest for the White House that began five years ago in relative obscurity but ultimately elevated him as a champion of the working class, a standard-bearer of American liberalism and the leader of a self-styled political revolution.
Mr. Sanders’s exit from the race establishes former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the presumptive nominee to challenge President Trump, and leaves the progressive movement without a prominent voice in the 2020 race. Spain’s daily coronavirus death rate shoots up again: Updated 7 April 2020 16:02 CEST
Spain’s daily coronavirus death rate shot up to 743 on Tuesday after falling for four straight days, lifting the total toll to 13,798, the health ministry said.
The number of new infections in the world’s second hardest-hit country after Italy also grew at a faster pace, rising 4.1 percent to 140,510, it added.
The number of new cases had risen by 3.3 percent on Monday.
Health ministry officials have said deaths occurring on the weekend are often registered a few days later, which may explain the rise.
However, it emphasised that the rise was due to weekend deaths being tallied and that the overall “downward trend” is continuing. Full story: https://www.thelocal.es/20200407/spains-daily-coronavirus-death-rate-shoots-up-again

Spain plans universal basic income to cope with coronavirus economic crisis (with editorial comment): Spain’s leftist government said Tuesday it plans to speed up its plans to introduce a universal basic income to help people cope with the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
Top-selling daily newspaper El Pais, citing unnamed government sources, said the gov’t plan was to introduce a monthly basic income payment of 440 euros ($475 dollars) in a country where the minimum wage stands at 950 euros a month, however among politicians the definition of “universal” is currently being debated. (While this sounds good to some people, it is far more complicated than the politician’s sound bites would lead you to believe! Do they even bother to do the maths? If half of Spain’s 40M population qualify to receive this “universal” benefit, the cost will be €8,800,000,000 per month; who believes that will be unsustainable for any significant stretch of time? Some politicians have suggested to fund this program the gov’t will need to nationalize some industries, a solution with many powerful opponents. Where else to get the funds? If Spain expects the EU to issue Corona-bonds to help pay for the financial damage the pandemic has created, how will the EU react to this huge cash distribution to Spain’s citizens? Will the EU see this as de facto subsidizing the Spanish Universal Income Plan?  Will  EU countries without a Universal Income pay for another EU member to do so? This is far from a done deal. -Ed.) Congress will hold a monitoring session with the government next week:
-At the meeting the PP and Vox, but also other groups such as EH Bildu, have advocated restoring parliamentary control to the Government, beyond the sessions with the appearance of the president, Pedro Sánchez, which are taking place.
– The Chief Executive attended the plenary session of Congress on March 18 and 25 to communicate the declaration of the state of alarm and to request a first extension until April 11, respectively. Next Thursday he will return to plenary to request authorization for a second extension, until the 26th.
-During the meeting of the Table of Congress, this Tuesday, the president, Meritxell Batet, has proposed to lift the suspension of the terms of the parliamentary procedures that were agreed on March 19, in line with the suspension of activity in the event of an emergency sanitary.
-In the Board of Spokespersons, the groups have chosen to gradually recover the functions attributed to Congress, such as controlling the Government.
-Therefore, there will be a plenary session on April 15 and 16 with oral questions from the opposition to the president and the ministers. Everything indicates that the questions will be about the management of the coronavirus crisis.
-In addition, the sources point out, the tables of the commissions will meet to progressively recover the planned schedule and its corresponding work programs.

PP and Vox Parties question the official death toll numbers and ask the government for explanations:
The Popular Group recalls that, according to the World Health Organization, only those cases of coronavirus supported by laboratory confirmation can be counted as positive. But, as “the Sánchez government has not yet been able to provide the necessary tools for the tests to be carried out in all the required cases,” many deaths caused by the virus are not being correctly counted.
“The PP considers that the truth must be the first hygienic measure against the coronavirus. Having reliable and proven data is not only an unavoidable democratic requirement, it is also an essential requirement for the design of an effective strategy for exiting the confinement” , they argue on their initiative.
For its part, Vox has analyzed in detail the data of Castilla-La Mancha and has concluded that “the distortion of data published by the Government during the state of alarm hide between a third and half of the deceased” in this community and “potentially all of Spain, “which, they note,” exceeds any potential margin of error. “ Full story:

The Spanish government said Tuesday it will make it easier for migrants and the unemployed to work in agriculture during the coronavirus pandemic: Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government has approved a decree to guarantee until June 30 the workforce needed for food production, estimated to be “between 75,000 and 80,000 workers”, Minister of Agriculture Planas said.
It will allow the hiring of both the jobless, who will be allowed to keep their unemployment benefits, and foreigners who are “legal residents in Spain”, said Planas.
If their work permits expire before June 30 “they will be renewed”, he added.
The policy also targets “young foreigners between 18 and 21 years old, for whom a work permit can be provided so they can perform these tasks”, he said. Full story: https://en.brinkwire.com/news/spain-wants-foreigners-and-unemployed-for-agriculture-boost/

Unfortunately I have received some inaccurate info from well meaning 3rd parties which has caused problems. Denmark Joins Austria in Easing Virus Curbs as Europe Cases Slow: Denmark and Austria were among the first countries in Europe to shut down public life in response to the Covid-19 outbreak that first emerged in China. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz earlier announced the first steps to restart his country’s economy, with small retailers, hardware and gardening stores allowed to reopen after Easter, to be followed by the opening of all stores from May 1.
Denmark will press ahead with a “cautious reopening” starting with kindergartens and primary schools on April 15 if the virus numbers remain stable, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said at a press briefing in Copenhagen on Monday evening. The government will also start talks with business leaders on gradually moving employees back into offices, Frederiksen said. Spain’s Ministry of Health has announced that it is considering relaxing confinement restrictions in areas that are less affected by the coronavirus: Regions with lower rates of Covid-19 infections could have confinement restrictions lifted “before those that are more affected by the disease,” he confirmed. However, Illa said the government will wait on data before deciding how it will relax restrictions, and exactly which regions. Fifteen regions could have restrictions slightly loosened thanks to the reducing spread of infection, one of which is Andalucia. Lockdown Extension Faces Stiff Opposition: Abascal and fifteen Vox deputies (VOX is the third-biggest force in congress) defy confinement measures and go to Congress. Parliamentary spokesman, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, announced in an interview on RNE that “in the current circumstances” it is most likely that they will not support the new decree extending the confinement and the measures approved by the Council of Ministers tomorrow, which will be taken to plenary next Thursday.  VOX had already announced it’s opposition on a variety of issues involved. Costa Blanca in Spain sees Couple Getting Fined for Shopping Together in Covid-19 Lockdown Rule Breaking: Two people who went shopping in a Torrevieja supermarket have been fined for breaking the State of Alarm rules.
Guardia Civil officers around the city have tightened up checks in stores, with the law clearly saying that just one person per household is allowed inside a store.
The rules also make it clear that people should go to the nearest supermarket to their home address, and that is checked by authorities asking to see identification papers.
A report in the Informacion newspaper says that two Guardia officers went up and down the aisles of a large Torrevieja hypermarket, and penalised two people for doing their shopping together.
The couple were allegedly shocked to be reprimanded and said that they thought the rules had changed, since two people are now allowed to travel in a car, so long as one of them was on the back seat.
The officers told them that the amended car rule only applied to a child or an elderly person, or in the case of an emergency.
It certainly did not stretch as far a shopping trip, and the couple were handed a fine.
Many parts of the Costa Blanca and Murcia regions are seeing Guardia and Local Police checks that people are leaving their homes to buy essential items, and till receipts are being checked.
There is no issue with buying the likes of alcohol, soft drinks or sweets, but that should be done with conjunction with the main purchase of essential items.
It’s to stop some people popping outside frequently to break the isolation rules by just purchasing non-essential goods.
The Local Police in the Valencian area town of La Font d`en Carròs recently fined a man €601 after they found his shopping consisted of just soft drinks, chocolate and sausages.

UPDATED– Covid-19 Recovery Plan.
The Current State of Spanish Politics- The gov’t does NOT have universal support of all political parties for proposed Covid-19 policies. Sanchez didn’t even speak with the opposition for the 8 days before he declared the latest extension of the lockdown according to the VOX Party, and the opposition is very displeased to be left out of the planning. The Spanish press for the most part is avoiding this topic. Here is an insightful article from The Financial Times for readers who follow Spanish politics (paywall protected online so I include it below, if I get a takedown notice, so be it, https://www.ft.com/content/4de48573-ca05-4876-9f1d-9e72e05949f3 ) :
Political divisions deepen as Spain battles coronavirus: Fissures are re-emerging while Pedro Sánchez’s government struggles to contain crisis. Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez has come under fierce attack from opposition politicians. In some countries, the worst pandemic for more than a century may have pushed political rivalries to pull together. Not so in Spain. The government’s official slogan is “United, we will stop this virus”. But, as the death toll mounts and Madrid uses emergency powers to issue economic diktats, the politics of confrontation has returned with a vengeance. This week the principal opposition grouping, the centre-right People’s party, labelled prime minister Pedro Sánchez a liar and one PP regional leader even accused the government of issuing orders to hide the real death count. The far-right Vox, the third-biggest force in congress, has called for Mr. Sánchez’s resignation and replacement by a government of national unity. Meanwhile, the pro-independence administration of Catalonia upbraids the government for its alleged incompetence and parsimony on an almost daily basis. “Here, instead of closing ranks and looking for the maximum possible consensus, the politicians are opting for a bitter fight — lucha dura,” said Astrid Barrio, a politics professor at the University of Valencia. “I am not sure citizens are going to appreciate that when the obvious priority is the health emergency.” Some blame the tensions on the significant levels of polarisation in a country where people turned to radical solutions in the aftermath of the financial crisis, and where far-left and Catalan nationalist votes helped bring Mr Sánchez to power, to the enduring disgust of the right. Others fault the alleged mismanagement of his new Socialist-led coalition, which has barely been three months in office. While the country has united in applause for health workers at eight o’clock every evening, underlying tensions have been exposed at other times — such as when different groups of Spaniards have banged pots and pans in protest at the government or, on one occasion, against the royal family. Whatever their cause, the fissures now re-emerging highlight the scale of the challenge if the country is to overcome the health crisis and the economic reckoning that many fear is to come. To impose Spain’s two-and-a-half week old lockdown, Mr Sánchez’s minority coalition assumed sweeping emergency powers, and won the backing of opposition parties in parliament to do so. The government says its steps are having an impact — reducing the daily increase in confirmed cases in percentage terms and the numbers of new entrants to intensive care wards. It adds that it has authorised more than €4bn in funds to fight the disease, much of which has gone to Spain’s regions. But even as they voted through the emergency powers, and their subsequent prolongation, Spain’s rightwing opposition MPs voiced misgivings about Mr Sánchez and his allies’ management of the crisis. Now those recriminations have taken centre stage as the death count regularly tops 800 a day and the government takes temporary measures, such as prohibiting businesses hit by the crisis from sacking employees and banning “non-essential” work while requiring companies still to pay salaries. Pablo Casado, leader of the PP, accuses Mr Sánchez of lying or hiding information, since the prime minister opposed a ban on non-essential work last week. Spain’s biggest employers confederation has also inveighed against the government for that ban, which it says risks the “massive destruction” of jobs and businesses “in a definitive manner”. Nacho Torreblanca of the European Council on Foreign Relations faults Mr Sánchez for failing to follow up his calls for national unity with the appropriate level of consultation with business and other political parties. “It is clear that, after a certain point, the government had to shut the country down,” he said. “But the manner in which Sánchez did it — making the decision, then getting cabinet approval, and then writing the decree — that only increases the polarisation.”

Recommendations & Requests

Plumber in Nerja: Hi Naythan, firstly thank you for continuing to provide valuable information during these difficult and dangerous times. Can anyone out there recommend a plumber in or around Nerja to replace our water heater element which has just given up the ghost. Not sure whether this would be considered “an emergency “ under current regs. but will still be required when we get back to normal.
Thank you, Brian Page

Support from services: Firstly a big thank you for your daily efforts to keep us all informed with not just local but the world.
We just wanted to reassure everyone that even smaller things can take presidence over this crisis, we have had to call on the Guardia Civil to help with a threatening situation from a neighbour taking advantage of the lockdown. They were most helpful and not at all dismissive.
Keep safe

Please be careful about believing crisis info posts on Fakebook and Social Media: There are circulating several hoaxes that well meaning people have spread to thousands of unsuspecting FB friends. To make it worse, some local authorities are making statements contrary to the official info on regional gov’t websites, and the local press is posting it as if it is undoubtedly true. Some FB users are even exploiting the crisis to gain “likes” on their FB pages by posting fake info posters designed to cause panic and get reposted by all their contacts, so as to harvest the “likes” the fake poster generates. That’s the social media world kids live in today. Anything for a taste of celebrity.
If there is no verifiable source provided with the info, while it may contain some degree of truth (as do all good lies) you can’t believe it!  -Ed.

Spain’s coronavirus crisis- Why the numbers are failing to show the full picture: Differences in reporting methods, a lack of testing and situational challenges mean the daily reports on deaths, infections and hospital admissions do not reflect the scale of the outbreak. Daily coronavirus deaths continue downward trend in Spain, with 674 in the last 24 hours: Updated-05 APR 2020 – 12:44 CEST. The downward trend of daily deaths from the coronavirus continued on Sunday, with the latest number falling to 674, according to official figures supplied by the Health Ministry. This marks a fall of 135 compared to Saturday, which saw 809. Sunday’s figure is the lowest seen in 10 days. The highest total so far was reported on April 2, with 950 fatalities from Covid-19 in a 24-hour period.
The total number of deaths in Spain from the coronavirus now stands at 12,418, with 130,759 confirmed infections, a rise of 6,023 in the last 24 hours. New infections grew just 5% in the last day, however, which is the lowest rise since the health crisis began. Spain’s President to follow the South Korean model, will embark on mass testing & set up quarantine centres to hold persons with confirmed coronavirus but showing little or no symptoms: During his weekly video conference calls with all the presidents of Spain’s regions, he asked for a list of public and private buildings such as hotels, hostels and sports centres, which can be used as quarantine centres to house infected people, with few or no symptoms. Covid-19 Recovery Plan Opposition Being Silenced? Follow-up to yesterday’s article discussing the blackout of information regarding opposition parties complaints about the Spanish gov’t recovery plans: Spanish newspapers are now protesting against the filtering of their questions during gov’t press conferences. It seems there are some delicate issues the gov’t does not want discussed in the press. Refer to my article in yesterday’s issue of DigameXtra for a list of these topics the opposition parties are demanding answers to. While unlikely, if the opposition parties and press gang up on Sanchez, he may have to make new concessions before the lockdown extension is finalized Thursday, or risk the extension is voted down. Unlikely, but you never know. Spanish politics is unpredictible, and huge crowds can be assembled rapidly when people feel threatened by unpopular policies. Down in the south we don’t see much protesting, but in Madrid and Barca they are certainly prone to civil disobedience, large protests and strikes. Reference: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/04/05/spanish-news-outlets-stop-participating-in-government-held-press-conferences-as-a-protest-against-their-selective-interview-questions/

China is Fighting Back over Spain’s Covid-19 Kit Quality Complaints: Numerous nations, including Spain, have complained about substandard or faulty medical products that have been received from China. Spain last week rejected thousands of rapid test kits sent by a Chinese company after they were found to be faulty.
Chinese officials hit back over the defective medical supplies, saying that they “did not reflect the full facts.”
“In reality, there are various factors, such as China having different standards and different usage habits to other countries. Even improper use can lead to doubts over quality,” said Jiang Fan, from the Ministry of Commerce. Rare, Huge Ozone Hole Over the Arctic: Last week, new research declared the once-worrying fissure in the ozone layer at the South Pole to be largely vanquished. But in March, a new hole opened in the ozone, this time on the other side of the world in the atmosphere above the Arctic. The hole will likely set a new benchmark for the largest ozone hole ever recorded in the North Pole. Fortunately, even though it’s three-times the size of Greenland, the tear is not likely to last long or be a danger to human health, reports Alexandra Witze in Nature. How a discovery that brought us Viagra could help those battling the coronavirus: In 1992, the journal Science named nitric oxide “molecule of the year.” And in 1998, UCLA pharmacologist Louis J. Ignarro shared a Nobel Prize in medicine for uncovering nitric oxide’s role as a “signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system.”
Nitric oxide may not be done yet. The colorless, odorless gas, inhaled through a mask or even from a small “flute,” is now being tested as an experimental treatment for COVID-19. It may also prove helpful in protecting healthcare workers on the front line of the pandemic from getting sick.
Note: Nitric Oxide (NO) is NOT the same as Nitrous Oxide (N2O) aka laughing gas. Nitric Oxide is one molecule of nitrogen, one of oxygen. Nitrous Oxide has 2 molecules of nitrogen, and one of oxygen. And that extra molecule of nitrogen changes the gas completely.

Restaurants & Markets That Deliver

If you know for certain a restaurant is still delivering (none should be offering take-away at this point), have them send in the details including Name of Restaurant, Location, Phone Number, Hours and a photo of their menu (optional). Unfortunately I have received some inaccurate info from well meaning 3rd parties which has caused problems. You need to know those areas are saturated with highly toxic chemicals when the street sterilizing crews come by. I suggest it would be better to feed them in the park and garden areas between the BLQs and the beach, or by the tennis courts. These chemicals are so strong it burns the feet of grown large dogs, as explained in an article in the April 2nd DigameXtra, here is the original article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/04/01/disinfection-killer-of-pets-sprayed-to-the-streets-of-the-costa-del-sol-costa-blanca-with-warning-to-dog-and-cat-owners/
-Torrox Costa places rat traps in the garden and lawn areas. They have recently refreshed the poison. Cats can be poisoned by mouse and rat poison by ingesting it directly themselves. These poisons are made to be enticing to eat, and cats can fall victim to this characteristic. Cats can also be poisoned by rodenticides secondarily, which means that they ingest the poison when they eat a rodent that consumed the bait. This creates a danger for cats even in homes where rodenticides aren’t put out. Rodents don’t die immediately when they consume these baits, so they can move to other areas and then be caught, killed, and eaten by a cat in an entirely different yard or home. The signs that will be presented by a cat that has ingested rodenticide will depend on the type of poison used in the product. Some signs might include:
-Pale gums
-Red, pin-point areas or large bruises on multiple areas of the skin, gums, or in the whites of the eyes
-Weakness, Lethargy or “drunk” appearance
-Bleeding from the nose or into the urine or stool
-Vomiting, Seizures

Pedro Sánchez plans to extend state of alarm in Spain until 26 April, but it’s not a done deal as most of the media would lead you to believe: The Spanish government has announced its plans to extend the state of alarm currently in force to curb the spread of coronavirus for two more weeks, until 26 April. The current two-week emergency period ends on 11 April and the new extension will need to be passed by MPs in Spain’s Congreso.
The government now has to seek the support of opposition groups so that the extension of the state of alarm, allowing an extension of the lockdown, can be approved by MPs in Congreso. The decision to extend the state of alarm is expected to be formalised in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and voted by MPs on Thursday.
http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202004/04/pedro-sanchez-extend-state-20200404150702.html
However, at least 2 opposition groups, that in theory have confirmed they will support the motion to extend, have threatened to remove their support, and now have Sanchez over a barrel. There is a growing cross-party movement that is angry about the situation for several reasons, and if these are not satisfactorily negotiated the opposition groups may block the extension:
-Businesses and individuals want to know why banks get bailouts from public funds but the small guys who provided those public funds get loans that must be repaid. They want rent & utility bill freezes, not loans.
-Many are finding that they do not qualify for relief programs, especially low wage earners, immigrants and domestic workers. They say those with the least savings, that are suffering the most, are receiving the least in relief. Protests supporting this position, in defiance of the lockdown, have been threatened by radicals in Barcelona and Madrid.
-Many are reporting the funds they are applying for are already exhausted.
-Some report they are told they will need to wait 20-25 weeks before relief checks are issued.
-Some cash businesses cannot prove they have lost the required 75 percent of income necessary to qualify, so they will receive no relief benefits.
-Sanchez’ 200B Euro recovery package is based on the private sector providing more than half the funding for this. The Spanish economy was struggling before the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people do not believe that there is a spare 100B Euros in the private sector to make that large a contribution. Or if the private sector does provide that much, they will simply pass on the expense to the citizens in the form of higher prices and reduced services.
-Labor unions and small business associations are demanding that the lockdown conditions be modified to focus on high risk groups like the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions or compromised immune systems. They say low risk sectors should be allowed to return to work. Note: My sources of these disputes listed above are several radio shows I listened to Saturday morning, including TRE Radio and RNE 1 Radio Nacional.

New study reveals existing widely available anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin can kill coronavirus within 48 hours: According to BDI’s Dr Kylie Wagstaff, who led the study, the drug Ivermectin stopped the SARS-CoV-2 virus growing in cell culture within 48 hours. “We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it,” Dr Wagstaff said.
Ivermectin is an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug that has also been shown to be effective in vitro against a broad range of viruses including HIV, Dengue, Influenza and Zika virus. Dr Wagstaff, however, cautioned that the tests conducted in the study to date were in vitro and that trials still needed to be carried out in people. The Government will lift the restriction on non-essential activities after Easter: (This is a Google translation, so forgive the grammatical errors) Sánchez has announced that they will not prolong exceptional measures for economic “hibernation” beyond April 9th, in reference to the recoverable paid leave that the Government approved by decree since last Monday the 27th for activities and jobs not considered essential due to the approaching of the Holy Week festivity. “It was necessary to contribute to the control of the epidemic according to the opinions of all the experts, but once the rubicon of Easter, the state of alarm will continue as it was without the exceptional measures once the term for which they were set expires, “explained the chief executive.
However, Sánchez has prescribed “an extraordinary precaution” in the face of the evolution that the pandemic may continue to have. “We will be with the antennas on to react as soon as possible to any hint of a spike in the virus, ”he warned. “We don’t let our guard down.”
“I already announced that more days will come of alarm status ”, he acknowledged, however. The Prime Minister has announced in any case that this extension of the state of alarm for another fifteen days will not be the last. “Logically, the state of alarm, and the exceptional measures that we are going to have to take are not going to last another fifteen days, they are going to last one more time“, It has been recognized. “It will be the least possible, depending on the effectiveness of the measures that we are deploying and the degree of compliance that we all Spaniards will have over the next few weeks, but logically, they will be more than fifteen days.” At the end of April, therefore, “it will not be over.”
Sánchez has hoped, however, that after April 25 some of the restrictions on citizen mobility can be relaxed. It will be possible to start from then on, as he has admitted, to “recover some spaces of social relationship that we have lost to protect our lives and the lives of our loved ones. ” All this, depending on the measures imposed and the degree of compliance of the company. “More days will come from the state of alarm, but not the same, it will be different, we will begin to recover something of our personal, economic and social life,” he explained. Recommendations & Requests

Home Delivery: Hi Naythan, printed in Digame recently is a list of places offering home delivery for food etc.
I have difficulty finding anyone in my locality who is offering the same service as mentioned in Digame, around Torrox and El Morche
I live in between Torre del Mar and Velez-Malaga.
I tried the Velez town hall website but no mention of this sort of assistance.
I am single and without transport, the few people I know cannot help me as they are fearful of going out and will only do so on their own. I am 67 and I have underlying health problems which would certainly could have serious implications.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ian

Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa has just hinted that the government is considering making face masks compulsory for Spain’s population in a bid to combat Covid-19 (coronavirus): We are “very probably” going to recommend the general use of face masks for the whole of Spain’s population, stated Illa. “We are studying the measures right now and how to implement this.”
He added that he could not provide more information just yet, but confirmed that the government is seriously considering the matter, along with extending the lockdown until April 26. Spain’s President, Pedro Sanchez, is expected to get the lockdown extension approved in parliament tomorrow. Hi hope you are all safe and well photo of me with bell ringing to support all our services . Cheers Dorothy xx nerja ; dorothyallenpl @ gmail . com

Repeat prescriptions from abroad: I thought this might be reassuring for some readers who live in other EU countries than Spain. I have a friend with health problems who lives in France and part time in Spain. He had a prescription from France for all his medication. I took it to the pharmacy on Torrox Costa and they said as long as they had the same drugs there was no problem issuing them. I got them all and with wonderful friendly service.

News & Articles

-Ed.

United Nations wants a 10% global tax and wants it now! : The IMF has announced that the world has entered into a recession as bad or worse than in 2009. The report calls for a new recovery fund to be created of at least 10 percent of global GDP! If countries accept the plan the United Nations would be given approximately 8.7 trillion USD annually, an unprecedented amount that would be 2,900 times greater than the UN’s 2020 budget of 3 billion USD. The proposed plan would effectively place the UN charge of propping up the economies of the world during the coronavirus crisis, placing it in charge of 10% of global income. Talk about not letting a good crisis go to waste. Read the official press release: https://reliefweb.int/sites/reliefweb.int/files/resources/un_brand_sg_press_release_march31_2020_10am.pdf

So now these businesses must submit their own posts, although I will in this case allow them to post even if they are not subscribers. -Ed.

Recommendations & Requests

Renewing prescriptions: Calling vs Using App.
We have successfully renewed our prescriptions without a visit. We used the phone service and held for an operator, after many tries we got through early morning. I did not ask for an interpreter as I speak ‘merely adequate’ Spanish and did not want to end up on hold longer, they were very helpful.
I was asked for my health service number and which consultaria we used and told my doctor would phone me.
This resulted in an appointment marked ‘demanda administrativa’ three days later, though it said was at 12:30 but the doctor actually phoned at 9:00. My doctor was very helpful and renewed everything for a year, including a medication from a hospital specialist which he at first said would have to be authorised.
We also phoned our local chemist and asked them to check that they had everything we needed (including some none prescription items) before we went. They had to order one item so we went that afternoon and it was a quick visit because it was all ready.
Since then I have noticed that the web site offers the options of prescription renewal, or a telephone consultation, when you make an appointment.
The telephone app, however, is not offering any appointments, at least not in our area.

Medication and your health card: I called my health centre yesterday In El Morche and they adjusted my meds for me on my card. Also if you need to talk to your doctor about anything, they will call you back and help you. They do not want you to go there or to the hospital so will help as much as they can over the telephone. I was helped very well indeed, I imagine that all health centres work this way at the moment..
Just give them your card number and they will do the rest.

-Ed.

Spain confirms it’s in ‘stabilisation phase’ having reached Covid-19 peak & heading in right direction: Updated 1 April 2020 @ 20:31
Spain’s Health Minister Salvador Ella officially declared that Spain is in ‘stabilisation phase’ of containing the coronavirus outbreak and that ‘we are heading in the right direction.’
Also taking part in the daily press conference remotely, Fernando Simón, the Director of Coordination Centre for Health Alerts Health at the Ministry of Health, said: “The data indicates that we have already reached the peak and that we are on the way down the curve.”
According to the President of the Spanish Medical Society for Emergencies, Juan Armengol, “There is a general impression that the number of patients are falling. Numbers in ICU have fallen in Madrid, while the rise has moderated or been halted in other regions, such as Catalonia.”
Torrejón de Ardoz Hospital’s Chief of Intensive Medicine, María Cruz Martín Delgado also confirmed that the pressure appears to be easing off. “In the last 48 hours, not only are emergency cases down, but admissions on the wards and in ICU have fallen, from four or five a day to just two,” she stated. Disinfection KILLER of pets sprayed to the streets of the Costa del Sol & Costa Blanca with warning to dog and cat owners: Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca streets have been sprayed with disinfection solutions against coronavirus but beware its a danger to animals.
As the councils quite rightly so spray the streets of the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca with high powered disinfection solutions to save lives of humans from the coronavirus it’s taking its toll on dogs, cats and other wildlife. Dog owners/ walkers need to be especially aware as some dogs have been severely injured and some resulting in death after licking their paws after walks.
Much wildlife has also suffered from the powerful solutions used as they lay dead on the streets of the Costa del Sol this morning after recently being sprayed. Info For ZOOM Users: Zoom is facing questions about how private or secure it really is. The news- Video conferencing platform Zoom claims it uses end-to-end encryption, but it is still able to access video and audio from meetings hosted on its app, The Intercept reported yesterday. On the same day, Vice revealed that Zoom is leaking thousands of users’ email addresses and photos, and letting strangers try to initiate calls with each other. That’s because users with the same domain name in their email address are being grouped together as if they work for the same company. Zoom told Vice that it has now blacklisted these domains. Zoom is also facing a class action lawsuit because users claim it did not obtain their proper consent before sharing some of their data with Facebook.
There’s also the widely reported problem of Zoombombing, where trolls intrude on open meetings (those without passwords) to hijack screen-sharing features. This prompted the FBI to issue a statement warning people to password-protect Zoom meetings. We contacted Zoom for comment but it had not responded by the time this was published.

More ZOOM Trouble: Unpatched Zoom App Bug Lets Hackers Steal Your Windows Password. To steal the login credential of user running zoom for Windows, all an attacker needs to do is sent a crafted URL (i.e. http://www.example.com/abc_file) to the victim over its chat interface and wait for the victim to click it once. Besides stealing Windows credentials, the flaw can also be exploited to launch any program already present on a targeted computer or downloaded as part of the attacker’s social engineering campaign.
Zoom has already been notified of this bug, but since the flaw has not yet been patched, users are advised to either use an alternative video conferencing software or Zoom in your web browser instead of the dedicated client app. Full story at: https://thehackernews.com/2020/04/zoom-windows-password.html

Didn’t we learn anything from the lightbulb fiasco? : A few years ago authorities removed the distribution of the reliable, landfill friendly standard lightbulbs, requiring us to replace them with new style compact fluorescent lightbulbs that are so toxic you heed a hazmat team to cleanup if you break one and LEDs that contain lead, arsenic and a dozen other potentially dangerous substances. These new ones cost 5 to 10 times as much, but last no longer than a good quality old-style lightbulb. In NYC there are buildings where the original Edison lightbulbs from the 1930s are still burning brightly, bulbs built before the concept of planned obsolescence infected the manufacturing sector.
Now Brussels in their infinite wisdom is planning to do the same thing with replacable batteries. The new community regulation that regulates the design and distribution of external batteries in order to make them “more efficient” and achieve a “reduction of polluting emissions” comes into effect this Wednesday, the European Commission (EC) has announced. Coronavirus: Spain bans funeral ceremonies and limits burials to just three mourners. Spain on Monday banned funeral ceremonies, including vigils at home, and decreed that no more than three people could attend burials as the government struggles with thousands of fatalities from the coronavirus pandemic.
Madrid announced that “religious celebrations and civilian funeral ceremonies are postponed until the end of the alert,” which has been declared until at least April 11th and keeps the population confined.
The new measures cut to just three the number of people who can attend a burial or cremation and social distancing of one to two metres must be maintained. Source:

Hola Naythan, How very right you are about the (a)social media!

Sorry, the caption cannot be copied for translation. However, I don´t think it is needed. (It says, “social networks as an information tool”. -Ed.)

Renewing prescriptions: Hi Naythan,
A couple of weeks ago you posted details of how to renew your prescription without going to the Medical centre, could you please republish it or send it to me please, I’m sure a few more people need these details now….Thank You, Jill, Nerja ; jill.green1707 @ gmail.com
Here it is again-
Important Message For The Elderly In Spain Re Prescriptions: Salud Responder has issued a statement regarding prescriptions. A member of the Facebook group Coronavirus in Andalucia – Expats Group has said she received an email stating that from now on if you are taking a medication and need a new prescription, you do not have to go to the GP.
The statement says just call the health department and they will load them on the card. The purpose of this measure is to assist the health centers and avoid contact with other patients. The phone number for this in Spain is 955 54 5060.
Another member of the group called the number and realized they only speak in Spanish. We advise you to ask a bilingual friend or relative to call on your behalf until they hopefully institute an English speaking service. Source:

Reader Sheila replies: If you ring them they do answer in Spanish giving you options 1,2,3 or Esperé which is Wait. Then you just ask for English speaker and they get a translator to help with what you want.

-Ed.

Spanish Cabinet rolls out new measures to cushion economic blow of coronavirus crisis- Evictions placed on hold, interest-free microcredits for tenants and financial aid for temporary workers are among the government’s new initiatives: (Updated 31 mar 2020 – 16:54 CEST)
Iglesias announced that the government would be freezing evictions of vulnerable members of society for six months, as well as extending current rental contracts that are due to expire for a further six months. The government will also put a microcredit scheme in action, making funds available at 0% interest to people who need help paying their rent. “This can be paid back in six years, a time period that can be extended to 10,” he said.
These measures, Iglesias continued, are aimed at landlords who hold one or two properties. “A small proprietor is not the same as a vulture fund, or a large property owner,” he continued. “Or a retired couple [whose rental income] complements their pension.” Larger landlords and vulture funds would, he explained, have to cut their rents by 50% or restructure them “in order to pitch in.”
Iglesias added that basic utilities such as water, electricity and gas would be guaranteed during this exceptional period, and that no one would see any of these services cut off.
The Cabinet today approved measures for the self-employed that will allow them to suspend payments of their Social Security contributions for six months with no interest, said Nadia Calviño, Spain’s deputy PM and economy minister. In theory, self-employed workers whose activities are affected by the state of alarm are not eligible, as the executive has created a special system for them consisting of a one-month benefit, which can be extended throughout the duration of the emergency situation, and no obligation to make social security payments. Debts that contributors may hold with the Social Security system can also be delayed for a six-month period. Coronavirus Creates an Epidemic of Scams: Fake cures, phony charities, fraudulent promises of early stimulus payments—authorities are flooded with complaints.
“Scammers are just opportunistic people,” Ms. Tressler of the FTC said. ”They are going to cast as wide of a net as possible and see who gets caught.”
AARP has received reports of a range of scams, including people receiving text messages falsely claiming to be from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asking them to click a link to take a “coronavirus preparedness test” that instead downloads malware onto their devices, said Kathy Stokes, the organization’s director of fraud prevention programs.
Numerous emails direct recipients to donate to fake charities with names such as the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Other schemes are more primitive, like the young woman who calls elderly victims posing as a granddaughter in need of money to pay for coronavirus-related medical bills. Spain´s Murcia Region is Seeing First Body Temperature Drone Tests: A Murcia region council has successfully tried out a drone that uses a thermal camera to measure the temperature of people walking outdoors. The authority in Mazarron volunteered its Civil Protection department to be one of the first groups in Spain to try out the heat-measuring drone, which had only previously been used in China. Besides the special onboard camera, the drone also has a loudspeaker to broadcast messages in Spanish and English during the current State of Alarm. Stocks fall, capping Wall Street’s worst quarter since 2008: Stocks fell Tuesday to close out Wall Street’s worst quarter since the most harrowing days of the 2008 financial crisis.
The S&P 500 dropped a final 1.6%, bringing its loss for the first three months of the year to 20% as predictions for the looming recession caused by the coronavirus outbreak got even more dire. Stocks haven’t had this bad a quarter since the last time economists were talking about the worst downturn since the Great Depression, when the S&P 500 lost 22.6% at the end of 2008. Watch Major Corps Plan How Gov’t Paid For and Operated Systems Will Track You AND the Corps Will Reap Billions: Ever wonder where politicians get all those creepy ideas? Corporate lobbys present profit-driven plans many years in advance in white-papers and insider forums. See it in action in the 2018 video below, where Marriott Hotels is developing so called “traveller IDs”, that are in fact the ultimate tracking devices for the authorities, that will also allow the corporate sponsors to maximize profits using a gov’t paid for and operated program! Such a deal! They pitch these ideas to politicians, and pay millions in campaign contributions to ensure it gets introduced to the right agencies, and it returns billions in profits in a few years. On March 26, 2020, the World Economic Forum published specifications and launched a new website for a project it has christened “Known Traveller Digital Identity” (KTDI):
KTDI would use a blockchain-based distributed ledger to bind together, through an app on a traveler’s mobile device, all of the following data:
-Biometrics (initially facial images, possibly also fingerprints, vaccination history, medical records, etc.)
-Government-issued ID credentials (passport number, etc.)
-Travel history including logs of border crossings, hotel stays, and possibly also car rentals and/or other events
-Purchase logs and possibly bank account information and/or other financial and transaction records
-Pre-crime predictive “risk assessment” and profiling scores generated at each “intervention” point before and during each trip or transaction
-Each hotel stay, purchase, or other transaction would become like a border crossing permanently stamped in your passport as part of a digital “trip pass” subject to inspection on demand by authorities at subsequent “intervention” points.
In this presentation at the Hotel Electronic Distribution Network Association (HEDNA) conference, representatives of Accenture (the prime contractor to the WEF for the KTDI project) and Marriott boasted of how, based on KTDI data, an individual could be picked out of a crowd and using automated facial recognition then be identified, then their mobile device instantly accessed for possible “blacklisting” (travel, money, data, internet blocking). So it can be used for surreptitious, non-consnsual mass surveillance, collection of virtually everything you do, and even has a built-in punishment capacity.
Partners in the KTDI project include government agencies (DHS, ICAO, INTERPOL, etc.) and the airline and airline IT industries (IATA, Amadeus, etc.). Other KTDI project partners include Google, the Marriott and Hilton (US-based) and Accor (France-based) hotel chains, and the Visa credit-card and payment processing company.
