Marenostrum Limited Festival Kicks Off this Weekend on Costa del Sol: Marenostrum Fuengirola – Limited Edition starts this weekend with concerts from Antílopez on Saturday, July 11 and the Petit Caviar y Viva la Vida show featuring Omar Montes accompanied by Moncho Chavea and Original Elías, on Sunday July 12.

New process launched for UK nationals registering for residency in Spain for the first time : The Spanish Government has launched a new process for UK citizens who have still to register their residency in Spain to protect their rights under Britain’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU. From 6 July, instead of the green certificate or card that Britons living in Spain are used to receive to prove residency, a new photo ID and biometric card known as a TIE (tarjeta de identidad de extranjero) will be handed out to those who meet the requirements.
The British Embassy in Madrid welcomed the introduction of the new system, but also stressed that the some 360,000 Britons already registered in Spain do not need to change from the green certificate or credit-card sized card they have already have.

Final round of coronavirus study confirms that only 5.2% of Spanish population has antibodies- ‘Very Far’ from a ‘Herd Immunity’: The Spanish overall figure of 5% is in line with studies in other European countries that showed a prevalence of 4% to 5%, far below the rate that would provide the population with so-called herd immunity, and which experts place at 60% at the very least.
When discussing the problems of different types of tests and inconsistant testing results this was part of the explanation. “Not being able to detect antibodies does not mean that these people are not immunologically protected,” explained the director of Spain’s National Epidemiological Center, Marina Pollán, given that people can also have cellular immunity, something that has not yet been so closely studied in this coronavirus. Found VISA Card: I found a Visa card in the car park of El Ingenio this morning. As it seemed to have an English name I brought it home to see if any Digamites had lost it. However on closer examination the English name is in fact French, the issuing bank being Banque Populaire, not Banco Popular as I first thought. Its a really long shot but perhaps somebody has a French neighbour with the initials GC. Worth a try!

Spike in Covid-19 Outbreaks & Hospitalisations Force Spain to Lockdown Parts of Catalunia Again: Catalunia’s Lleida and Segria are back under lockdown from this afternoon due to a spike in Covid-19 cases and an increase in hospital patients as a result of the disease.

England to end quarantine for more than 50 countries: Britain will end coronavirus quarantines for people arriving in England from more than 50 countries, including Germany, France, Spain and Italy, but not the United States, the government said on Friday.

Fiscal reforms and hikes on highest rates of income tax ‘inevitable,’ says Spanish prime minister: According to Sánchez, Spain must close its fiscal gap with Europe if it is to strengthen the country’s welfare system in areas such as public healthcare. In Spain, the tax burden – the total tax revenue as a percentage of GDP – is 39%. This is six points below the European average, which translates to €80 billion in taxes a year.
In a bid to address this crisis and create a fairer tax system, Sánchez also raised the possibility of increasing value-added tax (VAT), as recommended by the Bank of Spain in its Annual Report.
The prime minister also announced on Thursday that an additional €50 billion in loans will be made available to small businesses and self-employed workers through the state-owned lender Instituto de Crédito Español (ICO). New Ransomware Targeting Apple macOS Users Through Pirated Popular Apps Such As Ableton Live: According to K7 Lab malware researcher Dinesh Devadoss, Patrick Wardle, and Malwarebytes, the ransomware variant, dubbed “EvilQuest”, is packaged along with legitimate apps, which upon installation, disguises itself as Apple’s CrashReporter or Google Software Update.
Besides encrypting the victim’s files, it also comes with capabilities to ensure persistence, log keystrokes, create a reverse shell, and steal cryptocurrency wallet-related files.
With this development, EvilQuest joins a handful of ransomware strains that have exclusively singled out macOS.
The source of the malware appears to be trojanized versions of popular macOS software such as Little Snitch, a DJ software called Mixed In Key 8, and Ableton Live.
It also kills any security software (e.g., Kaspersky, Norton, Avast, DrWeb, McAfee, Bitdefender, and Bullguard) that may detect or block such malicious behavior on the system, and sets up persistence to automatically restart the malware each time the user logs in.
In the last stage, EvilQuest launches a copy of itself and starts encrypting files, counting cryptocurrency wallet (“wallet.pdf”) and keychain related files, before eventually displaying ransom instructions to pay $50 within 72 hours or risk leaving the files locked.

Your phone vibrates a dozen times an hour with alerts about likes and comments and retweets and faves. The combined effect is one of just trying to suck you back in, so their numbers look better for their next quarterly earnings report. Sean Parker, one of Facebook’s earliest investors and the company’s first president, came right out and said what we all know: the whole intention of Facebook is to act like a drug, by “[giving] you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever.” That, Parker said, was by design. Spain to close half its coal-fired power stations: Spain is on track to become a coal-free country in record time. All of its remaining coal-fired thermal power plants will start shutting down on Tuesday, a year-and-a-half after the closure of the coal mines, which could not survive without the state aid that the European Union has banned.

Spain’s Government to Investigate around 10,000 Companies Suspected of ERTE Furlough Fraud: 75,000 letters have been sent to companies suspected of ERTE fraud to advise them that they are being investigated, according to Spain’s Government. Over the next 15 days or so, the labour department’s officials will pay a visit to approximately 10,000 companies suspected of fraud.
Spain’s Minister of Labour and Social Economy Yolanda Díaz, confirmed the extent of ERTE Furlough fraud going on in the country. “There are people who tell me that they are still on ERTE, and yet they go to work without being paid. That is fraud and a is a huge irregularity, since it is public money, and there will be penalties for those caught,” she warned. So You Thought All Those Covid Handouts Were Free?: Bank of Spain eyes tax hikes to offset soaring debt from Covid-19 crisis. The Bank of Spain on Tuesday recommended drafting a medium-term plan with adjustment measures to offset the high debt (“the highest in many decades”) that the coronavirus health crisis will be leaving behind.
The proposed fiscal adjustments, to be adopted at a later time, include raising taxes.
Spain demands non-repayable bailout grants from the EU, but expects it’s citizens to pay back any Covid assistance as loans. It sounds like a double standard to many and has caused a great rift in Spanish politics that were already in conflict over the Covid response. Conservative parties believe the Spanish Gov’t’s mishandling of the crisis to a large degree led to the financial difficulties in the first place. Planning to raise taxes while people are struggling to recover sounds counter productive to that recovery say critics.

Price Gouging- Google hikes YouTube TV price to $64.99: Alphabet Inc’s Google said on Tuesday that it has raised the price of its YouTube TV online service by 30% to $64.99 per month, citing rising cost of content. The price hike, effective from Tuesday, comes amid a surge in demand for online content as live events, movie theaters and sporting events remain closed or canceled due to coronavirus-led restrictions. Spain resorted to ‘gag law’ more than ever before during coronavirus lockdown: Within the first 75 days of confinement, the Interior Ministry issued nearly 1.1 million sanctions, up 42% from the amount handed out between 2015 and 2018.
The controversial legislation, approved by the Popular Party (PP) in 2015, was criticized from day one for impeding freedom of expression because it established fines for doing things like protesting in front of parliament or taking and sharing photographs of police officers. The opposition claimed it was a way to clamp down on the street protests taking place at the time against political corruption and mismanagement of the economic crisis.
But the “gag law” will turn five years old this Wednesday, and not only has it not been repealed or reformed, it has actually been used more than ever in recent times, under Sánchez’s administration. Outrage as New ‘Coronavirus’ Treatment Comes with a Hefty Price Tag of Up to Almost €4,000: Remdesivir is the drug created by the American pharmaceutical company Gilead, who announced that governments in developed countries could expect to pay $390 for a vial, which would equate to around €2,082 per patient and longer therapies could cost up to €3,818.
