MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

SPAIN

These are the bus routes in Spain which will be free for commuters: There is some good news for those who travel by bus in Spain- the government has announced that many long-distance routes will be free of charge for regular users next year. The Minister of Transport said this Friday morning (25 Nov) that the scheme which already exists, whereby local and medium-distance train journeys are free for passengers who do them regularly, is to be extended to long-distance bus travel as well. The aim is to encourage people to leave their cars at home and use public transport, as well as to help offset the cost of living crisis. Ukraine struggles to restore power as Russia targets energy grid:
Much of Ukraine remained without heat or power after the most devastating Russian air strikes on its energy grid so far, and in Kyiv residents were warned to brace for further attacks and stock up on water, food and warm clothing. Moscow acknowledges attacking basic infrastructure, saying it aims to reduce Ukraine’s ability to fight and push it to negotiate. Kyiv says such attacks are a war crime. Photo: Pavlo Palamarchuk.

HEALTH

Waiting lists rise by 10% with more than 740,000 people waiting for surgery: {Translation} 25/11/2022, 13:14
– Spain’s public health system has reached its highest ever number of patients on the waiting list for non-urgent surgery in the SNS as a whole, with 742,518 patients, up 81,356 more than a year ago (10.96%), according to the latest Spanish National Health System (SNS) report, which puts the average waiting time at 113 days, 8 days less than a year ago.
– On the other hand, 17.6% of patients had been on the waiting list for more than 6 months, according to the latest data collected as of 30 June 2021. However, as the Ministry of Health highlights, after the increases experienced in the first pandemic waves, delays have decreased appreciably compared to the situation prior to the pandemic: the average waiting time is reduced by 8 days and the percentage of patients who have been on the waiting list for more than six months is 2.3 points lower than in December 2019.
– As usual, the speciality with the highest number of patients is Traumatology with 187,404 patients on the waiting list, followed by Ophthalmology with 159,218 patients. Meanwhile, the speciality with the lowest number of patients is Thoracic Surgery, with 2,355, followed by Cardiac Surgery with 3,304.
– The specialities with the longest average waiting times are Plastic Surgery with 226 days and Neurosurgery with 193 days. Meanwhile, Dermatology with 63 days and Cardiac Surgery with 75 days are the specialities with the shortest average waiting times.
– The 11 clinical processes specifically monitored in this information system have an average waiting time of 90 days. The average delay recorded for cataract surgery, one of the most frequent procedures, is 70 days. Surgery for benign prostatic hypertrophy is 131 days and hallux valgus (“bunionette”) surgery 122 days.
– It should be noted that, with the exception of the first pandemic year, around 3.7 million surgeries are performed annually in SNS hospitals, including both those that are scheduled on the waiting list and those that are not scheduled or urgent.
– This six-month period has seen a higher number of both waiting list admissions and departures per procedure compared to the previous two years, during the pandemic, and even a higher number of admissions than in the first half of 2019, the year prior to the pandemic.
– With regard to waiting times for first consultations with the different specialists, these are higher than in previous years. Overall, the average waiting time is 79 days, 4 days longer than in the same period of the previous year.
– There are several specialities whose average waiting times are around three months: Neurology with 97 days, Dermatology with 84 days, Digestive with 84 days and Traumatology with 82 days.
– On the other hand, patients for Gynaecology have an average waiting time for consultation of 52 days and for General Surgery it is 55 days. The report includes, together with the overall indicators of the waiting lists of the SNS, the breakdown by Autonomous Community. AXARQUIA

Farmers propose declaring region a catastrophic area due to drought: {Translation}
– Farmers propose that the Axarquía be declared a catastrophic area because of the drought. According to the sector, 15% of the avocado and mango plantations have already dried up due to lack of irrigation. Francisco Pineda, guardian of the Benamargosa river irrigation community, recalled that in the area of ??influence of the La Viñuela reservoir, barely one liter per square meter has been collected so far this autumn. Added to this is the fact that it is about to be two months since agricultural irrigation from the reservoir was prohibited, currently at 9.3% of its total capacity.
– Speaking to Cadena SER Málaga y Axarquía, he pointed out that “we have no water. It is a ruin. Each farmer is trying to save the plantations as best he can. Some are paying for bucket lorries. Others are considering selling their plots. The wells are dry. And we can hardly give a little water to the field every ten or fifteen days, which is not enough. Between 10 and 15 % of the trees have already dried up. In addition, he also recalls that “there are very few insured farms”.
– In his words, ‘we are suffocated. It is time to consider declaring the area a disaster area. It would be the only way to alleviate the damage that we are still evaluating. “We have to bear in mind that irrigation with reclaimed water – an emergency measure put in place a few weeks ago – will not arrive until next May or June. And that will only be a respite for a part of the 14,000 hectares of subtropical crops that we have sown”. ENERGY CRISIS

‘It’s a joke’- Spain & France slam EU gas price cap: The Spanish government on Wednesday lambasted the European Commission’s proposed price cap on wholesale natural gas, set so high that critics have questioned if it would ever be used. Spanish ecological transition minister Teresa Ribera called the commission’s proposal a “joke”, saying it would cause steeper price hikes and hamper efforts to tame decades-high inflation.
– The French energy transition ministry criticised an “insufficient” scheme that “does not respond to the reality of the market”. “The commission must propose an operational text, not simply a text that is political grandstanding and may have negative or no effects,” it said. HEALTH

MRI reveals never-seen-before spaces in brains of migraine sufferers:
– “To our knowledge, this is first study using ultra-high-resolution MRI to study microvascular changes in the brain due to migraine, particularly in perivascular spaces,” said study co-author Wilson Xu, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. “Because 7T MRI is able to create images of the brain with much higher resolution and better quality than other MRI types, it can be used to demonstrate much smaller changes that happen in brain tissue after a migraine.” Among these changes were cerebral microbleeds, along with enlarged perivascular spaces in the centrum semiovale region of the brain, in the migraine sufferers. Football- European Parliament declares, FIFA “has seriously damaged the image and integrity of world football”:
– The European Parliament warned this Thursday that the FIFA “has seriously damaged the image and integrity of world football” and considered that the corruption within this entity, at the center of the controversy for granting Qatar the celebration of the World Cup of football in 2022, is “rampant, systemic and deeply entrenched”.
– The resolution on the situation of the human rights in Qatar in the context of the tournament, approved this Thursday by show of hands, begins by lamenting “the death of thousands of migrant workers and the injuries suffered by workers during the preparations” for the World Cup and calls for “accountability” for them. CULTURE

The Barbizon Hotel- A sanctuary for women in midtown Manhattan:
– “What girl wouldn’t love this marvelous location to work and study for her future? Ambitious, discriminating young women have for years preferred the Barbizon,” read an advertisement in the April 1966 issue of The New Yorker that also listed the countless amenities (shops, beauty parlor, restaurants, a swimming pool and more) of a place that, from its construction in 1927 until its transformation into a luxury apartment building in 2007, helped to liberate the women of New York – and the world. In the city where trends are born, the Barbizon Hotel officially opened its doors in 1928; an exclusively female residence that, for decades, served as a refuge for some of the most fascinating women in the city and, by extension, the planet.  Liza Minnelli, Grace Kelly and Joan Didion were some of the young women who chose it as their base of operations at the beginning of their careers. Others, such as Margaret Brown, the “unsinkable” survivor of the Titanic, ended up there in their last years. However, it was another illustrious guest who inspired historian Paulina Bren to write The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free, the most exhaustive chronicle of this legendary beacon of sorority.
– “Reading Sylvia Plath’s novel, The Bell Jar, which is a fictionalized (barely!) account of her time in New York at the Barbizon in 1953, I was struck by the scene when the protagonist throws her entire wardrobe off the roof of the hotel. The hotel was located at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 63rd Street and built in a style that architecture magazines defined as a “Romanesque sort of Gothic.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/culture/2022-11-24/the-barbizon-hotel-a-sanctuary-for-women-in-midtown-manhattan.html

Have your computer properly maintained with an annual professional servicing to keep it clean, running cool and thus extend its life. You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. Protect your computer & your privacy with annual servicing. The Doctor is closed on weekends. Always include the patient’s make and model number when making support requests. DoctorLaptop’s Website & Contact Info: doctorlaptop@protonmail.com or call 675 993 069 after 12pm, missed calls returned asap. My contact details are shown every day in the Sponsor’s Section.

 ANDALUCIA

Andalusia’s new climate change plan will condition all of the Junta’s laws: {Translation}
– The Andalusian government remains committed to going green. This was certified by the Executive on Tuesday when it began drafting the second Andalusian Climate Action Plan for 2023-2026. According to the Minister of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, who is also spokesman for Juanma Moreno’s government, this initiative is “stepping on the accelerator” in the fight against climate change.
– The Andalusian government’s green commitment also includes a new line of aid for municipalities in the region with between 50 and 100,000 inhabitants. For them, Juanma Moreno’s government has set aside one million euros in the new Andalusian budget, with the idea that these localities will be the scene of “innovative projects against climate change”.
– Regarding the new climate plan, Fernández-Pacheco pointed out that “nobody disputes” that Andalusia must tackle policies against climate change. Furthermore, the spokesman recalled how the region is a “particularly vulnerable” place in the face of the impacts of global warming. At the same time, “Andalusia is a pioneer and leader” in the fight against this reality, he boasted. “We are paving the way for many regions of our country to follow this path that the international community is inexorably marking out for us,” added Fernández-Pacheco.
– In line with this fight against climate change comes the second Andalusian Climate Action Plan (PAAC). The Andalusian government spokesman pointed out that it is a “transversal” plan that will permeate all the Junta’s policies in the future. The aim, according to Moreno’s government, is to make the fight against global warming an issue to be taken into account in all Andalusian legislation.
***Communication and awareness-raising***
– The plan, Férnandez-Pacheco advanced, has three fundamental lines: mitigation of emissions; adaptation of Andalusia to climate change; and communication and participation to raise public awareness. In addition, the plan contemplates the development of actions for each of the programmes in its time horizon. In this way, the actions are defined through specific programme sheets with information on, among others, the target population, the body responsible and the agents involved, with the identification of monitoring indicators, or the budget and source of funds.
– The results of the first operational programme of the Junta de Andalucía’s climate action for the period 2021-2022 have recently been presented, with a total of 119 actions compiled, and a committed investment of 1,783 million euros for the period, according to the spokesperson for the regional minister.
– The Andalusian spokesman insisted that the central government should support Andalusia as the venue for a climate summit. In fact, Juanma Moreno’s government has shown that it is open to negotiating the dates if Pedro Sánchez is not convinced by 2025. The intention, Fernández-Pacheco stressed, is to hold a summit “in a positive way” and without any desire to confront the central government. Photo:ABC. The DGT begins a campaign of surveillance and control of vans on roads of Andalusia: {Translation}
– From today until Sunday 27 November, the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) will carry out a campaign to monitor vans on the roads of Andalusia, where they will check that they comply with the regulations, especially in aspects such as age, MOT, insurance, load, speed and driver documentation.
– During the last campaign carried out in Andalusia, the agents of the Guardia Civil Traffic Group checked 13,440 of these vehicles on the roads, of which 1,002, 7.46%, were reported for not complying with some of the precepts of the regulations.
– The main reason for the complaints, 20.38%, was not having a valid MOT, bearing in mind that the average age of vans under 25 years old in Spain is over 12 years. Speeding, lack of insurance or failure to pass the MOT were other common offences.
– The campaign also includes the van driver’s compliance with the rules, as in the last control period they were mainly reported for not having the proper documentation, not wearing seat belts and testing positive for alcohol or drugs. Specifically, 13.5% of the complaints were for speeding, which amounted to 149 complaints; 8.79% were for not having the proper documentation for both the loader and the transporter, in accordance with the L.O.T.T.; and 4.7%, for not having the driver’s documentation in force, 52 drivers were reported. In addition, the Guardia de la Guardia’s Traffic Group detected 8 van drivers driving after having consumed alcohol or drugs.
– The loading of vehicles was another of the precepts to be checked, as the weight and distribution of the load is vital in the event of an accident. In the six days of surveillance, 66 drivers were reported for exceeding the permitted weight of their vehicle and another 32 for incorrect load distribution. It should be remembered that the greater the mass of the van, the greater the safety distance that must be maintained in order to stop the vehicle in time for any unforeseen event. AXARQUIA

Axarquía village to host Ukranian refugees in former care home:
– A former care home for elderly people in the Axarquía village of Almáchar is to be used to receive refugees fleeing from the war in Ukraine.
– The building, which was built over more than a decade ago, has been closed and unused for more than five years. At the end of 2019 it was thought that 22 people would move in to the home, but this has not happened. As such, the town hall has decided, following requests from the provincial and regional governments (the Diputación in Malaga and the Junta de Andalucía), to cede the building to the Red Cross for the temporary reception of refugees from the war in Ukraine. EUROPE

Brussels proposes a 275 euro price cap on gas purchases: {Translation}
– The European Commission proposed on Tuesday to set a cap of 275 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) on the price of gas purchases that will be automatically triggered by exceptional price rises and will limit transactions on the regulated market for one month, although the mechanism will have an emergency brake to suspend it if it seriously disrupts the markets.
– This market correction mechanism will set the cap one month in advance for products on the Dutch futures market TTF, which is used as a benchmark for gas prices across the EU.
– The cap will be triggered if the Dutch price base reaches this maximum price and only if the price increase is not matched by a similar increase on the world market, which must also be 58 euros or more above the global average for two weeks, European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday. However, the measure does not include over-the-counter (OTC) markets.
– Brussels’ aim is to “achieve an immediate effect” on the market, although the mechanism carries the implicit possibility of being suspended if it causes “serious disturbances”.
– In addition, the price cap will be automatically deactivated if a monthly review shows that the conditions for its application are no longer met. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/economia/energia-00341/noticia-bruselas-propone-tope-275-euros-precio-compras-gas-20221122160721.html

Football News- Ronaldo to leave Manchester United after criticism of club:
– Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will leave with immediate effect, the Premier League team said on Tuesday, marking a bitter end to the Portugal captain’s second spell at Old Trafford after he said he felt betrayed by the club.
– An explosive interview with TalkTV this month – in which Ronaldo said he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag – had put him on shaky ground at the club he rejoined in August 2021 after winning eight major trophies with them from 2003-2009.
– United said last week they would address Ronaldo’s comments only after establishing the complete facts and added last Friday that they had initiated “appropriate steps” in response. Football News- Why are World Cup games so long as average match sees 16 minutes of added time?:
– During the first four matches – Qatar v Ecuador, England v Iran, Senegal v the Netherlands and USA v Wales – there has been an incredible 64 minutes of added time. That’s an average of 16 minutes per game or eight minutes per half.
– The change in tactic from FIFA for this World Cup has been made in a bid to stop time-wasting and to increase the amount of actual game time where the ball is in play. It means that each and every World Cup game is likely to have more stoppage time at the end of both halves than what we have seen in previous tournaments and compared to what we have become accustomed to in the Premier League and the Champions League.
– Pierluigi Collina, chairman of the FIFA referees committee, explained the reasoning behind the new directive. “We want to avoid matches at 42, 43, 44 minutes from effective time. So the times of substitutions, penalties, celebrations, medical treatment or of course VAR will have to be compensated.”

Ministry of Economy suffers another cyber attack that affects “very sensitive data”: {Translation, summary} 21Nov22, 11:07 CET
– ‘ABC.ES’ has revealed this hack, which has infected this Ministry, as well as other public agencies, and the Police are investigating “in secret.”
– The Ministry of Economy has been the victim of a cyber-attack in which hackers have accessed “very sensitive data” through the computer of one of its civil servants. The news has been brought forward by ABC, reporting that the incident became known last Monday 14 November and was reported by the attacked civil servant himself, who realised that someone had remotely accessed his computer without his consent when, after a few minutes of inactivity, he returned to his workstation and saw how the mouse was moving “on its own”.
– Technicians from the ministry’s IT department, the User Service Centre (CAU), “checked the computer for infection and removed the software installed to take control of the computer”, the newspaper reports, noting that the cyberattack “took place on the SARA network that connects the different public administrations, so it may have spread to other public bodies”.
– ABC specifies that the hacking affected the Analysis department of the ministry headed by Nadia Calviño, which prepares all the economic forecasts and contains “all imaginable macroeconomic and microeconomic data; production in all sectors, employment data including working and financial records, foreign balances, debt and confidential information on large companies”. According to the information, the National Police are carrying out an investigation under “strict secrecy”, which is in an “embryonic state” and whose “actions are secret”.
– It has not been ruled out that the cyber-attack is related to the one suffered by the Judicial Neutral Point of the General Council of the Judiciary last October, “when intruders stole entire databases of the services of the Tax Agency, Social Security and Foreigners’ Affairs”.
– As for who might be behind these offensives, ABC points out, based on sources consulted, that given their magnitude, they are more likely to have been perpetrated by “a strong criminal organisation or by a state than by a private individual”.
– According to José Manuel Garabito, a cybersecurity expert, the perpetrators are people with “very specific knowledge and who are part of the world of cybercrime”. He also points out that the stolen data could be offered for sale on the Deep Web and used, for example, to commit scams. “If you have someone’s income tax return, where they work, where they live, email, telephone and account numbers, you can target them with very specific attacks,” the expert explains. These are the pets that the new Animal Welfare Law prohibits having at home: {Translation} 12/11/2022, 08:03
– The classic idea of having a dog or cat as a pet, or at most an aquarium with colourful fish, has been superseded for years by a wide range of possibilities that have turned the most varied and unsuspected species into ‘flatmates’.
– Eccentricities aside, the new Animal Welfare Law that came into force last summer has put a limit on animals that can be considered ‘companion animals’, leaving out options to which society has become accustomed over time.
– The reasons are clear. On the one hand, to preserve people’s health, which could be compromised by living with certain animals. One might think in the first instance of the transmission of diseases or poison, but the possibility of attacks due to outbreaks of aggression or mere behaviour should not be overlooked.
– On the other hand, to avoid a threat to the ecosystem in case the animal escapes from the home. Obviously, this group mainly includes non-native species or those that may be invasive or colonising in certain contexts.
– The new law also excludes species that are not easy to care for. Not only in terms of feeding, but also in terms of not being able to guarantee the natural behaviour they would have in their original habitat.
***Cases not allowed***
– In this way, the Directorate General for Animal Rights (an agency of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030) has elaborated on the list of species disallowed in the new Welfare Act.
– This includes rabbits, but also rodents such as hamsters, guinea pigs, mice and chinchillas. Hedgehogs, which are considered potentially dangerous to other native animals, are also not allowed.
– Under the new rules, it will no longer be possible to emulate George Clooney and keep a Vietnamese pig as a pet. If
abandoned, as they are not easy to look after, they could cause overpopulation if mixed with wild boar.
Spiders are another species that is banned because of health concerns for humans.
– The presence of reptiles in the domestic environment has also now been revised: it is not possible to keep turtles in the home (due to the vulnerability -sometimes danger of extinction- of some species and their strength when searching for food, in the event of a clash with native species), nor chameleons, iguanas, snakes, lizards or geckos.
– Finally, non-native birds, such as parrots, lovebirds and even parakeets, are excluded from the list of permitted pets. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/salud/mascotas-nueva-ley-bienestar-animal-prohibe-tener-20221112123806-nts.html

TORRE DEL MAR

Christmas in Torre del Mar will feature a performance by Cantores de Híspalis and an innovative video mapping with daily shows: {Translation, summary}
– A month full of activities, concerts, parades, parades and music for everyone, starting on the 2nd of December, at 6pm, with the children’s parade and the official inauguration of the lighting. On the 2nd, we will also inaugurate our traditional free amusement park in the Plaza Juan Aguilar in Torre del Mar, open every day at 16:30 in the afternoon. At 19:00 hours, the big Christmas tree in our town will be illuminated, which will kick off a very full calendar of events”.
– As for the traditional Zambombá Solidaria, this year we are holding it on 9 and 10 December on the Paseo de Larios. We start on Friday morning with the prize-giving ceremony of the Cipriano Maldonado Children’s Drawing Competition. From 11:00. In the afternoon, at five o’clock, Christmas children’s show ‘El Color de la Alegría’. At seven o’clock, Queen tribute concert. And at 8 pm, pop with the group ‘Miss Gin’. As for Saturday, we will begin at 5 pm with the flamenco zambombá ‘Rumbolero’. At 6 o’clock, the show ‘Amargo’ and from 20:00 hours, we will have the performance of the Cantores de Híspalis, who bring us a show that will surprise everyone who attends.
– As was the case last Christmas, “we will have the traditional Christmas Market in the Paseo de Larios area, which will become another of the highlights of our Christmas. On the other hand, with regard to the Azucarera area, the cultural epicentre of Torre del Mar, from 3 December and throughout Christmas there will be an innovative video mapping with shows every day at 7pm and double shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 7pm and 8pm,” said Atencia.
– There will also be chocolate, fritters, Gala of the Innocents, mini-campanadas, the Santa Claus parade, the Royal Mailman or the Three Wise Men and “we will have the performance of Javier Ojeda, leader of the band Danza Invisible, who brings his music to Paseo de Larios on 30 December. UK

Deal on UK licences in Spain agreed but still no exchange date:
– The UK Ambassador to Spain has confirmed that “two outstanding issues” delaying negotiations have now been resolved, although he didn’t confirm how many “weeks” it will be before in-limbo UK licence holders can exchange and get back on the road.
– The British Embassy has never explicitly explained the reasons why negotiations have gone on for over two years without much progress, with the only hint being that Spain asked for the provision of UK licence holders’ data to be part of the deal, something the UK did not want to agree to. Some Spanish laws have to receive approval from the Spanish Parliament and the Senate before they can come into force, extra legislative steps that can add months to the process.
– However, all the British drivers residing in Spain – as well as Spaniards and other foreign nationals who have a UK licence – at least now have the peace of mind of knowing that they won’t have to sit their driving exam again in Spain.
– “At that point (when the law comes into force) you will then have six months to exchange your UK licence for a Spanish one and during that time you will be able to drive using your existing valid UK licence.” “Now I know this has not been an easy time for those of you who have been unable to drive,” the ambassador acknowledged once more about the mobility issues affected drivers have faced for months, especially those in rural areas.

TECH

In Italy the Police Control The Internet- Police Tracked Traffic of All National ISPs to Catch Pirate IPTV Users:
– If your internet service or IPTV provider is based in Italy, your internet activity is being monitored by a police tracking system.
– Today’s general consensus is that hitting site operators is much more effective but whenever the opportunity appears, undermining user confidence should be part of the strategy. Italian police have been following the same model by shutting down pirate IPTV services and warning users they’re up next.
– Police also claimed that a tracking system made it possible to identify the users of the pirate streams. The letters to offenders suggest extraordinary and potentially unprecedented tactics.
– The letters state that Italian authorities were able to track the IPTV users by “arranging for the redirection of all Internet service providers’ national connections” so that subscribers placed their orders on a police-controlled server configured to record their activity.
(This is very disturbing. If Italy is only now admitting to tracking internet traffic en masse, what other countries are doing the same? And how is this possible when the EU has strict rules designed precisely to prevent this type of user tracking by private or public agencies? Police are only supposed to be able to get warrants to investigate specific IP addresses, not monitor everyone! Google & Fakebook have paid billions in fines for similar behavior. -Ed.)

Digital product passports become the norm in EU’s green economy plan: The EU is currently reviewing its circular economy rules (that will replace our current supply-chain economy as per the UN’s Agenda 2030), with the intention of making green products the norm in the bloc’s single market. A central part of this agenda rests on the introduction of so-called ‘digital product passports’ that will track the origin of all materials and components used in the manufacturing process of everyday consumer goods. Products would have an ID number, similar to passports, and they should be machine-readable, either via QR codes, or bar codes. FINANCIAL

FTX collapse wipes out the savings of crypto traders, ‘You feel like a fool’:
– It has been a terrible year for cryptocurrencies, and it’s not over yet. In the latest gut-punch of bad news, more than a million people have seen their investments wiped out.
– FTX – or the “Futures Exchange” – is a Bahamas-based cryptocurrency exchange, previously valued at $32Billion, that filed for bankruptcy on November 11, 2022. The collapse of one of the most popular online sites among those who buy and sell digital assets comes at the end of a disastrous year for the cryptocurrency sector. Even some of the most faithful defenders of digital assets have finally lost faith, after helplessly watching their money disappear overnight.
– “There have always been big scams, now, it’s our turn to experience it,” says David, one of those affected by the FTX crash. He recently joined a Telegram group where 600 Spaniards and Latin Americans discuss strategies to recover even a little of what they’ve lost.
– Long-time critics of FTX explain that the digital assets traded on these kinds of platforms have no real value and are simply meant to feed the greed of a few individuals. CULTURE

“Chrisley Knows Best” Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley to be sentenced, facing over 21 years prison time:
– Todd and Julie Chrisley were driven by greed as they engaged in an extensive bank fraud scheme and then hid their wealth from tax authorities while flaunting their lavish lifestyle, federal prosecutors said, arguing the reality television stars should receive lengthy prison sentences.
– The Chrisleys gained fame with their show “Chrisley Knows Best,” which follows their tight-knit, boisterous family. They were found guilty on federal charges in June and are set to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross in a hearing that begins Monday and is likely to extend into Tuesday.
– Using a process to calculate a sentencing guideline range based on several factors, federal prosecutors determined the upper end of that range is nearly 22 years for Todd Chrisley and about 12 and a half years for Julie Chrisley. The couple should also be ordered to pay restitution, prosecutors wrote in a court filing. Photo by Jordan Strauss/AP. SPAIN

Pensioners protest against “the brutal attack on pensions by capitalism”: {Translation}
– Pensioners have taken to the streets this Saturday in various parts of Spain to defend their rights and public pensions, since “the laws that are being developed introduce negative reforms for citizens”, according to the spokesman for the State Pensioners Coordinating Committee, Damián Rodríguez, who told Europa Press.
– They also lamented that “pensions are suffering a brutal attack by capitalism”, as stated by the secretary general of the Madrid-CLM-Extremadura Territorial Confederation of the CGT, José Antonio García de Merlo, during the demonstration in Madrid, which brought together some 1,500 people, according to data from the Government Delegation.
– Pensioners’ organisations had already held a similar demonstration in Madrid on 15 October and now it has taken place at national level. Damián Rodríguez defended these actions because they are aimed at ensuring that no more rights are lost.
– “We are asking to defend rights and public pensions; to recover the purchasing power of pensions and salaries; the disappearance of the gender gap; and measures to ensure that the real CPI is raised so as not to lose purchasing power in the circumstances of social emergency in the country,” he stressed.
– In this sense, he blamed politicians for “trying to escape the pressure of the street”, despite “a very murky economic outlook”, and criticised the splendid future of large companies, which have an “extraordinary” present.
– “It is enough of so much profit for the lion vultures, the banks and private entities. We ask the government to make it possible to maintain the conditions of the welfare state that we have enjoyed in recent years”, he stressed. Ukraine says half its energy system crippled by Russian attacks, Kyiv could ‘shutdown’: Russian missile strikes have crippled almost half of Ukraine’s energy system, the government said on Friday (18 November), and authorities in the capital Kyiv warned that the city could face a “complete shutdown” of the power grid as winter sets in. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said about 10 million people were without power in a country with a pre-war population of about 44 million. Power supplies were difficult in 17 regions and in the capital, and authorities in some areas ordered forced emergency blackouts, Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address.

Temperatures set to plunge as Malaga feels effects of first polar front of year:
– The rain in Spain has been widespread this week, but Friday 18 November, the wind is due to change to northwest or northerly and there will be a significant drop in temperatures everywhere as well as frost and ice in some parts.
– Malaga will be no exception to the cold front and in some areas of the province, especially inland, minimum temperatures could drop below 8C this weekend. In Ronda and Antequera, for example, it will go down to 5C, in Coín 7C, and 8C in Pizarra, Alhaurín el Grande and Cártama.
– On the coast, minimum temperatures will be between 10C and 12C, including Malaga city. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/temperatures-plunge-weekend-forecast-20221118102313-nt.html

Rainfall in Malaga- 19 litres inland and minimal relief in the reservoirs:
{Translation, summary} 18 Nov, 2022, 13:20h
– Although the joy was short-lived, this Friday it rained for the first time in Malaga with a more or less acceptable intensity. We have had to wait until mid-November for this and although the weather forecast is for more rain until six o’clock in the afternoon, for the moment the balance has left only 19 litres in the interior of the province and hardly any water in the reservoirs. In short: more ado about nothing.
– The highest accumulated rainfall reported by the Hidrosur network – with data updated at 12:00 noon – has been recorded in the Serranía de Ronda, where Cañete la Real stands out, with 19 litres per square metre; the Majada de las Lomas station (Cortes de la Frontera) with 16 litres, and Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja (in the Estepona mountains), with 14.3 litres.
– Other inland areas have also seen rainfall of more than ten litres in the last twelve hours. This is the case of Cuevas del Becerro, with 12 litres per square metre, or Pujerra, with 11.6. In Ronda there have been 11 litres and in El Torcal de Antequera 10.5.
– In the Sierra de Mijas there were 8.6 litres, and in the region of La Axarquía, where the drought situation is even more alarming, the heaviest rains fell in Alfarnatejo, with no more than 9 litres. On the coast the amounts are more reduced, for example: in Torrox there have been 4.3 and in Torre del Mar, about 3.5 litres. And in Malaga city, according to the data from the Paseo de la Farola station, there have been about 4 litres.
Minimal relief in the reservoirs
– As for the reservoirs in Malaga, the only ones to have received some water are Guadalteba and Conde de Guadalhorce, which have received 8.5 and 7.9 litres, respectively, as well as the Concepción reservoir, with 8.3 litres. In the area around the capital, the Limonero reservoir received 4.7 litres and the Casasola reservoir 3.1 litres.
– Once again, the worst is in La Axarquía, as the squall has practically passed over the reservoir of La Viñuela which, with its reserves at an all-time low, has not added more than 2 litres.

World Cup organizers to ban alcoholic beer sales at stadiums:
– World Cup organizers will ban the sale of all beer with alcohol at the eight stadiums used for the soccer tournament, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press. The decision comes only two days before games start in Qatar.
– Non-alcoholic beer will still be available for fans at the 64 matches, the person said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because organizers have not yet announced the decision.
– Budweiser’s parent company, AB InBev, pays tens of millions of dollars at each World Cup for exclusive rights to sell beer. The company’s partnership with FIFA started at the 1986 tournament.
When Qatar launched its bid to host the World Cup, the country agreed to respect FIFA’s commercial partners, and again when signing contracts after winning the vote in 2010. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the host country was forced to change a law to allow alcohol sales in stadiums. AXARQUIA

Junta activates urgent works to send more water to growers in the Axarquía: Junta de Andalucía approved on Wednesday 16 November emergency works to start up the recycling of water at the Peñón del Cuervo waste water treatment plant and its connection with the Rincón de la Victoria plant so that, from there, it can reach farmland in the Axarquía. This new project, which will require an estimated investment of 27 million euros, will provide a further 9.1 Hm3 of water to the area per year. NERJA

Fun and games as Nerja’s Verano Azul playground reopens after 18 months: There are five themed areas, which include games for different ages, some of them adapted for children with special educational needs. The councillor for municipal services, Gema García reported that the park will be open every day from 10am to 8.30pm and has a security guard at night. In addition, the councillor pointed out that the town hall has also improved the gardens, updated the benches, bins and street lighting and the access gates.

TORRE DEL MAR

Vélez-Málaga demands ‘urgent solution’ for Torre del Mar shanty houses:
– The Casillas de la Vía shanty houses at the entrance to Torre del Mar on the N-340 road, near Mercadona and the land used for the Weekend Beach music festival, are the last of their kind in the Axarquía. The houses are home to more than a hundred people, from children to elderly people who live without proper connection to running water, sewage or electricity.
– After several decades of unfulfilled promises and failed attempts, Vélez-Málaga town hall has once again demanded that the Junta de Andalucía, as owner of the land where the houses are located, provide an “urgent solution” for the families that live there. The deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, announced that his party will bring a proposal to the next council meeting scheduled for the end of November. Photo: E. Cabezas. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Rincón de la Victoria, first municipality to sign an agreement with the College of Veterinarians for the control of cat colonies: {Translation}
– The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), and the president of the Malaga Veterinary Association, Juan Antonio de Luque, have proceeded this morning to sign the first collaboration agreement for the identification, vaccination and registration of feral cats.
– This is the first document signed by a municipality at provincial level with the college in view of the need to locate the number of cat colonies and feeding points, register, sterilise their specimens and carry out the compulsory treatments with the aim of preventing health problems, as well as the uncontrolled proliferation of wild and stray cats in the municipality.
– Salado has valued this agreement “as an improvement in the sanitary conditions of the animals and their environment, which will have a positive impact on the health of the citizens and the image of the municipality”.
– The councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs, Mª Carmen Cañizares (PMP), explained that through this agreement “we can have the RAIA database of cat colonies registered, with an updated census of the animals, which will facilitate the ethical management of animals in our municipality”.
– For his part, Juan Antonio de Luque pointed out that “with this initiative Rincón de la Victoria is ahead of the approval of the future Animal Welfare Law, being a pioneer with the signing of this agreement which will be followed by other municipalities in the province”.
– This agreement, which has a duration of four years, does not involve any cost for the town hall and the citizens. The school will provide microchips, vaccinations and registration with the RAIA of all the animals that make up the authorised cat colonies.
– Last year, Rincón de la Victoria renewed the collaboration agreement with the Malaga College of Veterinary Surgeons for the direct registration of pets in the Municipal Register of Companion Animals, thus saving the citizens the paperwork and expenses involved in the Andalusian Animal Identification Register (RAIA).

SPAIN

Spaniards have second lowest level of English in EU:
– Despite Spain’s popularity with English-speaking holidaymakers and home buyers, its people continue to have one of the worst levels of English in Europe according to the 2022 English Proficiency Index. A study conducted by language school empire English First in their latest English Proficiency Index found that the Spanish rank number 33 out of 111 countries, but are way behind other nations in Europe, as they came in at number 25 out of 35. In fact, Spaniards have the second lowest level of English in the whole of the EU, with only the French ranked worse. COSTA DEL SOL

Costa del Sol offshore wind farm project gets thumbs up from ecologists:
– The proposed wind farm off the Costa del Sol has received mainly positive reactions from ecologists and from experts at the University of Malaga, because they believe the advantages would outweigh possible inconveniences.
– “We are in favour of offshore wind farms because we need energy transition as soon as possible; the wolf is already at our door. If it means we have to reduce our demands slightly, then so be it,” said Rafael Yus, the coordinator of de Gena-Ecologistas en Acción. “The turbines would be a long way offshore so they would hardly be visible. There is no reason to oppose them”. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/costa-offshore-windfarm-20221116142811-nt.html

MALAGA

A network that illegally distributed IPTV streaming content from Malaga to more than 500,000 users has been brought down: {Translation, summary}
– They illegally distributed audiovisual content to more than 500,000 users in several European countries from Malaga. Agents have arrested four members of a criminal network who allegedly used several websites to advertise subscription packages consisting of more than 2,600 television channels and 23,000 films and series; they also had more than 95 resellers located in Spain, the United Kingdom, Malta, Portugal, Cyprus and Greece.
– The investigation also led to the blocking of eight bank accounts and the seizure of numerous computer equipment, documentation, 2,800 euros in cash and two high-end vehicles valued at 180,000 euros. The operation has ended with four people arrested in the Malaga municipalities of Benahavís (two), Mijas (one person arrested and another under investigation) and Benalmádena (one), although efforts are continuing to identify more possible people involved in the organisation in other countries. The name of the illegal service has not yet been released, however, if your IPTV has recently quit working, this may be the reason. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Rincon de la Victoria will begin to punish the owners who do not pick up after their pets: {Translation, summary}
– Rincón de la Victoria was the first municipality in Malaga to implement DNA dog  identification with the publication of its ordinance in September 2016, the ordinance has undergone several modifications, the latest version was published in March 2021. The municipal ordinance for the protection and keeping of animals can be consulted on the Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall website:
https://www.rincondelavictoria.es/ordenanzas-no-fiscales
– The Rincón de la Victoria Local Police together with the Health and Consumer Affairs Office will process complaints for not picking up dog excrement in public spaces, identifying the dog the poop came from by the DNA it contains, then cross referencing that ID with the local register of dogs to find the dog owners. “The amounts of both penalties range between 75 and 500 euros each. The procedures for the first offences have already begun”, as indicated by the councillor for Public Safety, Borja Ortiz (PP).

USA

Trump announces his run for presidency in 2024:
– Donald Trump, who has mounted relentless attacks on the integrity of US voting since his 2020 election defeat, on Tuesday launched a bid to regain the presidency in 2024, aiming to pre-empt potential Republican rivals.
– Seeking a potential rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden, Trump made his announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida a week after midterm elections in which Republicans failed to win as many seats in Congress as they had hoped.
– Trump’s announcement comes earlier than usual even in a country known for protracted presidential campaigns and signals his interest in discouraging other possible contenders such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis or his own former vice president, Mike Pence, from making a bid for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

Republicans win enough seats to take control of US House:
– Republicans were projected to win a majority in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday, setting the stage for two years of divided government as President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party held control of the Senate.
– The victory gives Republicans the power to rein in Biden’s agenda, as well as to launch potentially politically damaging probes of his administration and family, though it falls far short of the “red wave” the party had hoped for.
– The final call came after more than a week of ballot counting, when Edison Research projected Republicans had won the 218 seats they needed to control the House. Republican victory in California’s 27th Congressional district took the party over the line. – The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) needs another year to become fully effective, but the European Union authorities are already warning travellers from over 60 visa-free countries to be aware of fraudulent websites that pretend to be the official ETIAS website or offer “intermediary services”.
– According to the British daily national newspaper The Times, the EU has issued guidance after fears that there could be “attempts to mislead applicants into believing that their site is the official channel for submitting an ETIAS application.” “This may give the false impression that the additional fee charged by the commercial intermediary is a mandatory part of the application process,” the guidance reads, claims The Times. NASA’s Webb Catches Fiery Hourglass as New Star Forms:
– NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed the once-hidden features of the protostar within the dark cloud L1527, providing insight into the beginnings of a new star. These blazing clouds within the Taurus star-forming region are only visible in infrared light, making it an ideal target for Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam).
– The protostar itself is hidden from view within the “neck” of this hourglass shape. An edge-on protoplanetary disk is seen as a dark line across the middle of the neck. Andalucia Covid & Monkeypox Update: {Translation} 15/11/2022, 13:44

– Last week there were 1,664 cases of covid and 34 people died, while a fortnight ago there were 1,867 cases and 29 people died.
– Andalucian hospitals are currently admitting 233 patients – twenty more than last Wednesday – of whom 17 are in the ICU – one more.
– The cumulative incidence over fourteen days in the community is 76.53 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, when a week ago it was 85.82.
– Vaccines administered up to Tuesday amounted to 19,734,409 doses, with 7,631,526 people having received at least one dose, while 971,484 booster doses have been administered this autumn.

SPAIN

Transport Strike Suspended Amid Claims Of Threats & Intimidation:
{Translation. summary}
– The protesters, who managed to blockade Spain in March, claim that thousands of lorry drivers have received threats from shippers to stop them from supporting the demonstrations.
– The striking transport association explained the decision to withdraw the strike by revealing “the relentless campaign of harassment and demolition by shippers, associations of the national transport committee, government unions, some media and a specific political party to try to discredit the movements of the association”.
– They claim that because of this pressure, thousands of lorry drivers have been threatened by the loading companies to not support the strike under fear of blacklisting. “The situation of drivers depending on shippers for work, yet with no process available to denounce the shippers non-compliance in terms of pledges made during the previous strike, have served as a legal weapon for the shippers to claim for themselves an obligation that their hauliers have to give them service”, say the association. It had called the strike as a result of an alleged breach by the shippers of the law that prohibits paying drivers below cost. The shopping basket is 15.4% more expensive than a year ago, the highest rate increase on record, despite inflation dropping to 7.3% in October:
– Prices moderated in the month of October and there have been three slowdowns. The CPI rate was 7.3% year-on-year, as confirmed by the INE on Tuesday, which represents a reduction of one and a half points compared to the previous month, when it had also fallen by that proportion. From the peak that it reached in July at 10.8%, they are more than three percentage points less in two months.
– And this despite the fact that food is skyrocketing, 15.4% more expensive than a year ago, the rate rose one point from September to reach the highest point since the beginning of the historical series in January 1994. Above all the increase in the cost of sugar (42.8%), legumes and vegetables (25.7%), chicken (18.3%), milk (25%), eggs (25.5%) and oil stands out (24%). VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Thirty National and Local Police officers block group from entering the Vélez-Málaga town hall where a council meeting was in progress: The parents of the more than 550 pupils of the José Luis Villar Palasí primary school in Vélez-Málaga, known as ‘Zona Norte’, gathered outside the town hall on Monday 14 November in protest against last week’s decision by the Junta de Andalucía to close the school, after a series of cracks that have been present in the buildings for almost four decades had worsened. More than 200 people gathered to demand “a solution” to the decision to relocate the children to three other schools in the town, arguing that it would disrupt family and work routines. They also demanded a solution to the building. Photo: E. Cabezas. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/axarquia/school-protest-20221115115323-nt.html

BREAKING NEWS- Missile Attack In Poland- Biden says ‘unlikely’ missile that hit Poland fired from Russia: 16/11/22, 03:30
– President Joe Biden said Wednesday it was “unlikely” that a missile that killed two in NATO-ally Poland was fired from Russia, but he pledged support for Poland’s investigation into what it had called a “Russian-made” missile.
– Biden spoke after he convened an “emergency” meeting of the Group of Seven and NATO leaders in Indonesia Wednesday morning for consultations on the attack that killed two people in the eastern part of Poland near the Ukraine border.
– “There is preliminary information that contests that,” Biden told reporters when asked if the missile had been fired from Russia. “It is unlikely in the lines of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia, but we’ll see.”
– It was not immediately clear whether Biden was suggesting that the missile hadn’t been fired by Russia at all. Ukraine still maintains stocks of former Soviet and Russian-made weaponry, including the S-300 air-defense missile system. Russian airstrikes reported in cities across Ukraine:
– Waves of Russian airstrikes rocked Ukraine on Tuesday, with authorities immediately announcing emergency blackouts after attacks from east to west on energy and other facilities knocked out power and, in the capital, struck residential buildings.
– A senior Ukrainian official, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, described the situation as “critical” and urged Ukrainians to cut back on their power usage and “hang in there.” Power provider DTEK announced emergency blackouts in the capital and authorities announced similar steps elsewhere, too.
– At least 10 regions and cities reported that they were targeted. The assault followed what have been days of euphoria in Ukraine after one of its biggest military successes in the nearly nine-month Russian invasion – the retaking last week of the southern city of Kherson. TRAVEL NEWS

Revolt of Imserso retirees fed up with eating meatballs and macaroni in a hotel in Roquetas: {Translation}
– Half a hundred travellers from the Imserso have stood up in a hotel in Roquetas de Mar in Almeria fed up with eating meatballs and macaroni almost every day. “I went on a trip for pensioners and the food could not be more bad and repetitive”, criticises one of the users.
– Pensioners complain about the menus at the buffet in the hotel El Palmeral, in La Urbanización, a very touristy area of the municipality of Roquet. Raw food, little quantity and poor quality during their stay. A situation that has provoked complaints en masse to the hotel management, to the Consumer Affairs Department of the Junta de Andalucía and even called the local police.
– “The hotel is very nice, the workers are very nice but the menu is awful. We always had to eat outside”, complained another traveller. In the same vein, another user reports that they eat fried, badly cooked and half raw food on a daily basis. In October there were also criticisms about the establishment’s food, which led to diarrhoea and vomiting in many of the guests, according to them.
– In addition, the complaints focus on the absence of fruit, and if there is any, it is in very bad condition. In some of the images published, mould can be seen on pears or oranges, already in a state of putrefaction. “The hake they offer looks like chopped sardines.
– The milk is just water and for breakfast there are endless queues, the best thing to do is to go to the nearest cafeteria. In short, a real disgrace”, states another complaint at the same hotel dated 9 November.
– The establishment regrets that the food did not live up to travellers’ expectations. “We tried to offer a varied and quality gastronomic proposal in order to satisfy the majority of guests”, they explain. However, the increase in prices as a result of the CPI has lowered quality standards.
– Only eight hotels in the province are available for Imserso trips. Seven of them are located in Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce (Alua Golf Trinidad, Bahía Serena, Best Roquetas, Best Sabinal, El Palmeral, Ele Andarax and Portomagno), and only one in Mojácar (Best Mojácar).
– The Social Tourism Programme of the Imserso (Institute for the Elderly and Social Services) for this season offered stays of 9 nights and 10 days for 269.83 euros, and 7 nights and 8 days for 212.96 euros in Almeria. These minimum prices barely cover the costs of hotel services and also include transport. Photo: ABC. – Rafa Nadal was eliminated from the ATP Finals as Casper Ruud beat American Taylor Fritz 6-3 4-6 7-6(6) in their round-robin match in Turin on Tuesday, which also guaranteed that teenager Carlos Alcaraz would end the year as world number one. Windows 8.1 Goes Obsolete Jan 10th, 2023:
– Microsoft says Windows 11 and a new PC is the way ahead for the soon-dead Windows 8.1 users. Microsoft has once again reminded users about the impending end of support for Windows 8.1 which happens early next year on January 10th.
– As of January 10, 2023, computers running Windows 8.1 will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide the following:
*Technical support of any issue
*Software updates
*Security updates or fixes
– While you could continue to use a PC running Windows 8.1, without new software and security updates, your PC will be at greater risk for viruses and malware (And, DoctorLaptop will no longer service these once they are obsolete, unless you want them upgraded to Windows 10). We recommend upgrading to a version of Windows that is still supported (Win 10 or 11).
