UGT asks for an increase in the minimum wage: A minimum interprofessional salary (SMI) of 1,100 euros per month, 10% more than today, is requested by the general secretary of the UGT, Pepe Álvarez this Monday. The union leader has pointed out that, due to high inflation, this year we should go to a minimum wage in the terms in which inflation is, that is, at 10%. “Place the SMI at those 1,100 euros”, Álvarez stated in a statement to the media. Anti-Logic at work- Authorities Claim A Tourist Tax Will Not Reduce Tourism?:
– These officials seem to forget the whole reason Costa del Sol is (was) so popular, is exactly because it was inexpensive compared to other destinations. There have been modest price increases for tourism related items recently, and that has surely driven away some budget-minded tourists, but many tourists understand the situation, so are willing to pay a bit more. Now officials want to further aggravate that situation by making local tourism even more expensive for visitors with a new tax? The tourism sector is still struggling to recover from Covid, and they are doing their best to hold tourism prices steady despite soaring inflation, to attract the tourists they are desperate for. These officials are convinced a new tax will not hurt tourist numbers? What if they are wrong? They provide zero evidence supporting their position. Sevillian Socialist anti-logic at its finest. No wonder they got hammered in the recent Andalucian elections. See next article for more opposition views. -Ed.
– The mayors of Malaga and Seville are both in favour of a tourist tax in their cities. They have both said they are in favour of the idea of a tourist tax for visitors who stay overnight, because it would help to finance the public services they provide and the work they do on promotion. “This is something that Seville council has been suggesting for the past seven years, because we are convinced that it will not reduce the amount of tourism and would provide income which can be used to improve public services and promotion.”

Andalusian hoteliers point out “the absolute ignorance” of the tourist tax: {Translation}
– The Andalusian hoteliers have indicated this Tuesday their opposition to the tourist tax, a measure that, by taxing the cost of overnight stays, they consider as a possible “handicap” for them.
– This was stated by the secretary general of the Andalusian Federation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (Fahat), Rafael Barba, after the meeting this weekend between the mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, and the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, to address various issues concerning their cities and in which the issue of the tourist tax arose, a matter on which the Malaga councillor said that it is “positive, as long as there is consensus with the sector”.
– In this sense, Barba pointed out that what the federation currently knows about the measure are “rumours”, as they have not received “any paper with the ideas”.
– On this measure, which according to him is “a new occurrence that has to do with the heat of the tourist season”, he said that the hotel sector is in a “situation of absolute ignorance”, as they do not know “what method it has, its amount or how the money raised is going to be invested”, among other issues.
– Barba also pointed out that the name of the proposal, ‘tourist tax’, is “a euphemism”, as they do not agree that it can be called a ‘tax’, as they consider it to be “a tax that only affects one activity”, nor do they consider the term ‘tourist’ to be approved, as they believe that “tourism covers a wide range of sectors and this measure only affects one of them – the hotel sector”.
– “What experience tells us is that in the end this income goes into the council’s coffers, which is why one becomes defensive, and even more so if there is no information about it,” he added. The secretary general specified that they fear that “everything will go to the chapter of the single coffers” and that “it will be very difficult to know what the real return on this supposed tax is”.
– Finally, the president of Fahat asked for “concreteness” about this proposal and “to call a spade a spade”, as “this is just another tax, with an obvious desire to collect money”. UK inflation to top 18% as gas prices soar, banking giant Citi forecasts:
– The spiraling rate will tighten the squeeze on households already wrestling with the deepening cost of living crisis and ramp up pressure on the central bank to take firmer action in a bid to curb runaway prices.
– UK inflation is set to top 18% in January – the highest point in more than 40 years and nine times the Bank of England’s target – due to rocketing wholesale gas prices, a global investment bank has forecast.
– Citi has predicted the retail energy price cap would surge to £4,567 in January and then £5,816 in April, compared with the current level of £1,971 a year, according to reports. ENERGY CRISIS

The price of electricity in Spain soars on Tuesday to 365.33 euros/MWh, its highest level since the Iberian exception: {Translation, summary}
– This will be the highest level since the so-called “Iberian exception” came into force in mid-June, and the price of 360 euros/MWh will be exceeded for the first time, including the compensation to gas companies.
– This increase in the price of electricity comes at a time when the price of TTF gas in Holland, the European market benchmark, is at a record high, with futures for September trading on Monday at a new high of almost 290 euros/MWh, after registering a rise of more than 18%.
– In the absence of the ‘Iberian exception’ mechanism to cap the price of gas for electricity generation, the price of electricity in Spain would be on average around 476.76 euros/MWh, which is around 111.43 euros/MWh more than with the compensation for regulated tariff customers, who will thus pay 23.37% less on average.
– The ‘Iberian mechanism’, which came into force on 15 June, limits the price of gas for electricity generation to an average of 48.8 euros per MWh for a period of twelve months, thus covering the coming winter, a period when energy prices are more expensive.

Europe braces for more cuts in Russian oil and gas exports: Europe faces fresh disruption to energy supplies due to damage to a pipeline system that brings oil from Kazakhstan through Russia, the pipeline operator said on Monday, adding to concerns over a plunge in gas supplies that could drive consumer prices much higher.
– CPC, which handles about 1% of global oil and whose largest shareholder is Russian pipeline firm Transneft, said exports from two of its three mooring points at a Black Sea terminal had been suspended, confirming a Reuters report.
– CPC said it had to suspend loadings from its SPM-1 and SPM-2 mooring points due to damage at “the attachment points of underwater sleeves to buoyancy tanks”. It said loadings were only being processed from SPM-3 and so oil loading requests would have to be reduced. The PP will vote against the energy saving decree if the government does not correct it this Tuesday: {Translation}
– The general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has announced that his party will vote this Thursday against the decree law on energy saving unless this Tuesday, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Government corrects it and eliminates what it considers to be “frivolities”.
– In a press conference at the PP headquarters, Bendodo has indicated that the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, two days before the vote in Congress, is a “magnificent opportunity” to correct the decree law and eliminate issues such as turning off shop windows or reducing air conditioning, which he defines as “frivolities”, and to add issues such as transport subsidies. “If the government withdraws all the frivolous measures, if it opts for protection and road transport aid, we will vote in favour; but if not, we will vote against,” he said.

European stock markets close in red due to the risk of recession and the dollar once again exceeds the euro: The European weakness is reflected in the value of its currency, since the dollar once again surpassed the euro, as had already happened last July, although this time the difference represents the lowest level of the European currency in 20 years , placing its value at 0.9951 ‘greenbacks’.

Bio Beach Restaurant in El Morche:
– A number of you know that I spent many years in Hawai’i; the center of my spiritual world! But did you know that Aug. 19th is the Hawai’i Statehood Day? See their Seal and State Capitol! And Bio Beach includes the very typical Hawaiian dish called Poké, in its menu; a tasty, fresh, and healthy choice for a hot summer day! Poké, (pronounced poh-keh), is a classic chopped raw fish salad, first created in the late 1970’s by Hawaiian fishermen. No longer a quick and easy fishermen’s ‘’fast food’’, it has evolved into a classic delicacy! In Bio Beach, you can select one of three choices of marinated fish (not raw), Salmon, tuna, and shrimp. The staff will not mind if you like to switch things around. For example, my favourite combination is the cold salmon with a base of warm quinoa, cool crunchy cucumbers, creamy avocadoes, and sweet ripe tomatoes. The menu will present all the specifics! And check the rest of the menu, it is full of tasty surprises and delicious food combinations. Bio Beach offers you some of the best food, company, and vistas in La Costa del Sol. Happy Munching! The staff is professional, and friendly and makes you feel totally at home!
– The Bio Beach lectures will be back on Sept. 14th at 11am. Mark your calendars! Louis C., a U3A member, who is a Chef, will bring you a fascinating lecture entitled: “Let’s Talk Rice” which will include its history, various types of rice, traditional ways of preparing this staple food for various cultures, etc… These U3A programmes are free, just order refreshments. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/); these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade (right behind the church). We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com.

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,

Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Eight-day strike begins at UK’s biggest container port Felixstowe as 2,000 workers walk out over pay: An eight-day strike at Felixstowe, the UK’s biggest container port, has begun with workers walking out for the first time in three decades. Around 1,900 members of Unite at Felixstowe are walking out for eight days in a dispute over pay. It is the latest outbreak of industrial action to hit a growing number of sectors of the economy. Workers including crane drivers, machine operators and stevedores are taking action after voting by more than 9-1 in favour of strikes. The union said the stoppage will have a big impact on the port, which handles around four million containers a year from 2,000 ships. Hailey Davidson begins quest to become first transgender woman to earn LPGA card at Q-School:
– Davidson began undergoing hormone treatments on Sept. 24, 2015, a date that’s tattooed on her right forearm, and in January, underwent gender reassignment surgery, a six-hour procedure that’s required under the LPGA’s Gender Policy.
– On May 13, Davidson won her first professional title on the NWGA tour (National Women’s Golf Association), beating several LPGA players in the process including Paula Creamer and Perrine Delacour. She is believed to be the first trans woman to win a professional tournament in the U.S. and now owns three titles.
– On June 8, Davidson received confirmation from the LPGA that she was eligible to compete in tour qualifying school, after having met the tour’s criteria of at least one year of hormonal therapy and gender reassignment surgery.
– Hailey Davidson was born James Scott Davidson, and moved to the U.S. from Scotland with her family in August 1997 – on the same day Princess Diana died. Born with clubfoot (both feet), she underwent 30 procedures growing up, wearing casts up to the knee as a toddler. Her last surgery came at age 17. Early on in her golf career, Davidson would have to miss a day of school after two-day tournaments to soak her feet in bath salts. Photo: Twitter. SCAMS

Don’t fall for the latest Facebook scam, Royal Gibraltar Police have warned: The police in Gibraltar have issued a warning about a new scam doing the rounds on the social media site Facebook, which urges people to solve an easy riddle and receive a cash prize. The Facebook message they quote says ‘No word starts with S and ends in Y. Prove me wrong and get paid £1,500 – £5,700’.
“This is a scam,” the police warned.”Our advice is: Tell your friends and family, to help protect them, and share this post to let others know”.
These types of posts are usually data-gathering exercises and in this case it is an attempt to access bank account details. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/gibraltar/dont-fall-latest-20220818204451-ntvo.html

Simple method destroys dangerous ‘forever chemicals,’ making water safe:
– If you’re despairing at recent reports that Earth’s water sources have been thoroughly infested with hazardous human-made chemicals called PFAS that can last for thousands of years, making even rainwater unsafe to drink, there’s a spot of good news.
– Chemists at UCLA and Northwestern University have developed a simple way to break down almost a dozen types of these nearly indestructible “forever chemicals” at relatively low temperatures with no harmful byproducts.
– In a paper published today in the journal Science, the researchers show that in water heated to just 176 to 248 degrees Fahrenheit, common, inexpensive solvents and reagents severed molecular bonds in PFAS that are among the strongest known and initiated a chemical reaction that “gradually nibbled away at the molecule” until it was gone, said UCLA distinguished research professor and co-corresponding author Kendall Houk. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Your cooperation is appreciated.

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

MALAGA

Benefits of living in a “tech center” city? – Malaga Local Police officers to carry electronic devices so drivers can pay fines on the spot:
– The Local Police force in Malaga city has begun to introduce a scheme under which traffic fines can be processed instantly and the offender can pay without even getting out of the vehicle.
– The scheme has just begun but within a few weeks all officers on patrol will carry an electronic tablet or smartphone which can not only issue the fine and send off the details but also take payment on the spot. By law, drivers obtain a 50% discount if they pay their fine within 20 days and do not appeal against it.
– The devices can also read vehicle registration plates to see in real time whether a car is insured and has an ITV vehicle inspection test, take photos to support the fine and check to see whether a person has been reported missing or is the subject of an arrest warrant.
– The equipment can also save the GPS coordinates at the time of capturing an image, consult databases of vehicles and drivers, and will be able to tell whether the driver has a valid licence. They can also collate information and compare times, so officers can tell whether vehicles have parked in a specific place for longer than permitted.
*Save time on tasks*
– These electronic devices will also speed up time-consuming tasks which officers have to carry out. For example, the connection to databases will show whether the terrace of a restaurant or bar is bigger than its authorised size, check whether a dog’s DNA has been registered with the authorities so action can be taken against owners who abandon or mistreat them or fail to clean up after them, and digitally complete the daily report that every officer has to fill in at the end of their shift. Birth rate across Malaga in free fall with fewer than a thousand babies born per month, deaths up 9%:
– Only 5,859 babies were born in the province’s hospitals in the first half of the year, down 14% from 5 yrs ago, while mortality recorded a striking increase of 9 per cent over last year
– The National Statistics Institute (INE) published on Wednesday, 17 August, the estimate of deaths for the first 30 weeks of the year. In the province in that period, 9,295 deaths have been recorded, which is almost 9 per cent more than on the same dates in 2021. This is an all-time mortality record that even exceeds the records of 2020 (8,076) and 2021 (8,532), the years marked by the coronavirus pandemic.
– The statistic, which is provisional, offers no clues as to the causes of the sharp increase in mortality, which is more intense in the province than that of the national level where there is a 5.1 per cent increase. Compared with 2019, the year prior to the pandemic, the increase in deaths recorded by Malaga is 23 per cent, the highest in the whole country. UK

Wave of strikes in the United Kingdom due to the loss of purchasing power of workers:
– The protests of railway workers, stevedores and even the more than 115,000 workers of the Royal Mail, are due to high inflation (it is already over 10.1%, its highest increase since 1982) and the devaluation of the pound sterling.
– “Purchasing power is being diluted at record speed by price increases, which demonstrates the vital need to defend the value of wages,” explained the general secretary of Unite (one of the main unions in the country) in a statement . This union, together with RMT and TSSA, have called around 45,000 workers from more than a dozen operators in the sector to strike again this week, managing to paralyze most of the British railway network. On Thursday, only 20% of the regularly scheduled trains circulated in what was the sixth day of the train drivers’ strike since June. The protests are set to resume tomorrow in what is now known as the biggest strike on the UK’s passenger rail network in 30 years. Russia’s Gazprom to shut gas pipeline to Europe for 3 days:
– A key Russian natural gas pipeline will shut down for three days of maintenance at the end of this month, the state-owned energy company Gazprom announced Friday, raising economic pressure on Germany and other European countries that depend on the fuel to power industry, generate electricity and heat homes.
– The latest shutdown will come a month after Gazprom restored natural gas supply through the pipeline to only a fifth of its capacity after a previous shutoff for maintenance.
– Russia has blamed the reductions through the pipeline on technical problems but Germany has called the shutoffs a political move by the Kremlin to sow uncertainty and push up prices amid the conflict in Ukraine. Killer Drug Nolotil (metamizole) By Far The Most Popular Medication In Spain: {Translation, summary}
-Nolotil, banned in many countries, but until recently available in Spain without a prescription, is known to cause severe, life threatening reactions that wipe out the victim’s white blood cells, mostly in western-europeans. It is responsible for many tourist deaths in Spain. (I had this reaction in 2016. I was isolated in an ICU tent for a week, then bedridden 4 months and giving myself daily injections into my belly for the 1st month, was on crutches another 2 months, lost 25kg and I still suffer from the life changing, very painful after-effects as a result of the severe damage it caused. -Ed.)
– The ten best-selling drugs- below are the medicines that have garnered more sales with their respective number of units (in millions) in the year 2020:
1. Nolotil (24,4)
2. Adiro 100 (17,6)
3. Paracetamol Kern (16,5)
4. Enantyum (14,4)
5. Paracetamol Cinfa (9,9)
6. Eutirox (9,1)
7. Orfidal (7,3)
8. Ventolin (6,9)
9. Sintron (6,8)
10. Lexatin (6,8)
In this way, the Nolotil is leading the sales with over 24 million units sold. It is a popular analgesic indicated to relieve acute pain and episodes of high fever. TECH

When Apps That Spy On You Get Caught Out They Claim It Is A “Newly Exposed Vulnerability”- New Amazon Ring Vulnerability Could Have Exposed All Your Camera Recordings & Some Personal Data:
– Retail giant Amazon patched a high-severity security issue in its Ring app for Android in May that could have enabled a rogue application installed on a user’s device to access sensitive information and camera recordings. The Ring app for Android has over 10 million downloads and enables users to monitor video feeds from smart home devices such as video doorbells, security cameras, and alarm systems. Amazon acquired the doorbell maker for about $1 billion in 2018.
– An attacker can sign in to the victim’s account without having to know their password and access all personal data associated with the account, including full name, email address, phone number, and geolocation information as well as the device recordings.
– Many analysts have warned about AmazonRing cams being a huge security risk. Now that the spy functions have been exposed, Amazon blames hackers. Just another example of tech companies ignoring app user’s personal security until they get caught, then passing the blame. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Your cooperation is appreciated.

Patients waiting for up to two years for dentist appointments due to lack of NHS funds:
– Nine in 10 NHS dental practices across the UK are not accepting new adult patients for treatment under the health service, a BBC investigation found. In a third of the UK’s more than 200 council areas, no dentists were found taking on adult NHS patients; And eight in 10 NHS practices are not taking on children.
– The few practices that are taking patients on – such as Eastleigh Dental Care – are advising long waits, up to August 2023 for their first appointment. The lack of appointments, has led people to drive hundreds of miles in search of treatment, pull out their own teeth without anaesthesia and resorted in some making their own improvised dentures.
– Paul Woodhouse, dentist and BDA board member, told BBC Breakfast emergency appointments at his practice were filled within five minutes of being open. He said the government was only providing 50 per cent of the funding the UK needed to care for every patient, meaning half of the population were being left without an NHS dentist. “If you said that about GPs or cancer screening, there would be riots on the street,” he said.

Dutch Farmer Protests- More than 100 people arrested in recent weeks after farmers ‘ protests: {Translation from Dutch}
– More than a hundred people have been arrested in connection with the farmers ‘ protests in recent weeks, police said. These are violations and crimes such as highway blockades, arson and waste dumps. The police also issued more than 700 fines.
– The police do not have exact figures on the fines and arrests related to the protests, but it is clear that since the first large farmer protest in Stroe on June 22, the number of fines has increased “strikingly strong”, says national commander Woelders. For example, in recent weeks, 186 fines have been issued for driving on the highway with slow motor vehicles, and 212 fines for standing still on the roadway.
– Of the more than a hundred people arrested, a quarter were not arrested on the spot; they were later tracked down by the police and still detained. A few are still in custody, including the three men who were arrested in the past two weeks for dumping garbage on the A7 , police said. Banks Know WhatsApp Is Not Secure- Asset managers on alert after ‘WhatsApp’ use crackdown on banks:
– A spokesperson for BNPP AM said it had banned the use of WhatsApp for client communications due to compliance, legal and risk considerations including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
– Asset managers are tightening controls on personal communication tools such as WhatsApp as they join banks in trying to ensure employees play by the rules when they do business with clients remotely.
– Regulators had already begun to clamp down on the use of unauthorized messaging tools to discuss potentially market-moving matters, but the issue gathered urgency when the pandemic forced more finance staff to work from home in 2020.
– Most of the companies caught in communications and record-keeping probes by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have been banks – which have collectively been fined or have set aside more than $1 billion to cover regulatory penalties. No Surprise- #MeToo Movement Disrupts Male/Female Co-worker Collaborations:
– Very far from the world of cinema, where this movement against workplace sexual harassment was born, Marina Gertsberg, an assistant professor of Finance at the University of Melbourne, raised this question and decided to study it in her own environment, the university. The initial result of her inquiry, in a nutshell, was that the productivity of the young female researchers dropped. She thus reviews it in her work ‘The Unintended Consequences of #MeToo: Evidence from Research Collaborations’. Gertsberg, who specializes in gender issues and behavioral bias, focused her work on the costs of collaboration. These are particularly important for young female economists and part of the gender gap in the economics profession is due to their smaller networks and more infrequent collaboration with their male peers. Young female economists undertook fewer research projects after #MeToo, and this drop is largely explained by the fact that they undertook less collaborative work with male colleagues from the same institutions. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must include this info or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

Note: You may additionally include a location to meet or pickup,
but your location is required in any case. If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.
For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Your cooperation is appreciated.

ANDALUCIA

Andalusian Health Service attends 96 possible cases of needle spiking, nine of them men:
– By Wednesday, 16 August, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) had attended to 96 possible cases of needle spiking in the region, nine of which were men. The highest number of cases (38) occurred in Cadiz province, followed by Huelva with 16, Seville and Malaga with ten each, Granada with nine, Almeria with seven, Cordoba with four and Jaén, which had had no cases before, with two.
– The regional government has set up a protocol to be followed if chemical submission by needle spiking is suspected. It recognises that these injections are a form of assault and are a criminal offence, so medical staff have to write an injury report and provide urgent attention because of the risk of chemical submission. The protocol sets out the procedures to be followed in all cases, whether or not sexual assault was involved. Once a patient has been seen at a hospital or health centre or via the 112 Emergency service, samples are taken and sent to the National Institute of Toxicology. Victims of these crimes are also offered psychological and legal support. The authorities stress that it is important that anyone who has been the victim of needle spiking must report the incident immediately so action can be taken. What’s On

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra! Tell your favourite establishments to post on DigameXtra to get next-day publicity!

Bands & Acts: Please submit your gig promos. Your music is your business, you need to get as much exposure as possible, don’t rely on venues to promote you! Most FB posts by venues only have a few likes, if any at all, so obviously are not reaching many people. And it is the same few persons giving the likes week after week. DigameXtra sends out over 4460 email issues every day to subscribers, 1000+ people get it daily on various social media and the website gets another 800 to 2000 visits every day. That is far better exposure than you are getting in any FB posts!!! Entertainers get to post their shows for free as long as they are subscribed to this newsletter. What are you waiting for?

Recommendation for Archgrove Services: We recently moved to Huelva Province from La Vinuela & used Archgrove Services to move us. They came to the house & quoted us by actually looking at our possessions. They moved everything with efficiency & humor doing everything we asked of them. They stored our furniture & possessions before delivering them to our new house. They made the whole move so easy and stress free for us. Would highly recommend them to others taking on a move.

SPAIN

Wild Fires Update- Spain firefighters battle to control huge Valencia wildfire and others as well:
– Some 300 firefighters spent a difficult night battling a huge wildfire in southeastern Spain that has burnt through nearly 10,000 hectares in an area notoriously difficult to access, officials said Tuesday. The fire began when lightning hit the Vall de Ebo area in the province of Alicante late Saturday and it has since spread rapidly, fuelled by strong winds, forcing the evacuation of more than 1,000 people, Valencia’s regional government said.
– Firefighters elsewhere in the region were also battling two other wildfires north of Valencia city, with hundreds of firefighters and at least 10 firefighting planes engaged in the operation, officials said.
– Further north, firefighters in the Aragon region were hoping to bring under control another major blaze that broke out Saturday that has burnt more than 6,000 hectares of land, forcing at least 1,500 people from their homes. Photo: ANDER GILLENEA/AFP

Commercial debt with late payment reached 73% of the total, reaching almost 350,000 million euros, according to the Cepyme indicator:
– The high inflation is having a full impact on the accounts of Spanish companies, whose commercial debt with delayed payment is already close to 350,000 million euros in the first quarter, 42% more than in the same period of the previous year. Cepyme data published this Tuesday reveal that business delinquencies in Spain increased 3 points compared to the last quarter of 2021.
– The indicator, which measures the increase in invoices with payment delays and the extension of payment periods, indicates that commercial debt with delays is already 73.3% of the total, reaching a volume of 348,992 million euros.
– The average payment period has shot up on average to 83.9 days, compared to the already high 81.4 of the previous quarter.

Golf News- Sotogrande to host million-dollar women’s golf tournament:
– The Aramco Team Series will take place between 18 and 20 August, with high-level golfers taking part in the competition, including world number three Nelly Korda. Sotogrande’s La Reserva club will host.
– Backed in the USA by former President Donald Trump who fell out with the PGA which removed certain tournaments from his courses in the USA, the cash rich LIV golf tournaments have attracted many of golf’s top competitors resulting in their ban by the PGA.
– Now the women’s version the Aramco Team Series is doing something similar, backed as it is by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and some top golfers will be competing at Club La Reserva de Sotogrande with tickets costing from just €5.

TECH

Apple News- You could soon be seeing a lot more ads on your iPhone:
– As we wait patiently for the iPhone 14 to show up (it should arrive next month), a new report suggests some significant changes could be coming to the software on iPhones and iPads: specifically, more advertising in Apple’s own apps.
– This comes via the reliable Apple-focused journalist Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who says that Apple is keen on expanding its integrated advertising efforts. A number of ads already show up in the News and Stocks apps, as well as the App Store.
– Those apps could eventually be joined by Apple Maps, as well as the Apple Podcasts and Apple Books apps, according to Gurman. We might also see an expansion into Apple TV Plus content – adverts have already started to appear in the platform’s Friday Night Baseball coverage, for example.
– The ads that already exist inside iOS, iPadOS and Apple’s apps currently bring in around $4 billion every year, as per the Bloomberg report, and the plan is to get that figure into the double digits. Overton’s window: An article in The New York Times states that cannibalism must be “normalized”, “The time for cannibalism has come”: (Overton’s window = the range of ideas the public is willing to consider and accept)
– A New York Times writer became the target of criticism on social media after publishing an article in which she claimed that “cannibalism, it turns out, has a time and a place.” In the text, entitled ‘Taste for cannibalism?’ and published last week, Alex Beggs cited plots from several recent books, soap operas and movies in which cannibalism takes center stage. “It turns out that cannibalism has a time and a place. In the pages of some nauseating recent books, on TV and movie screens, Miss Summers [author of the book ‘A Certain Hunger’] and others suggest that time is now,” she wrote.
– Among the works that Beggs mentions is not only that of Summers (2020), but the television series ‘Yellowjackets’ (2021), the film ‘Fresh’ (2022), the book ‘Lapvona’ (2022) and others.
– In addition, the author of the article quoted the co-creator of ‘Yellowjackets’, Ashley Lyle, who states that “we are often attracted to the things that repel us the most”
– The author also addresses the issue of what “can feed today the desire for stories of cannibalism.” In that context, she quoted Lyle, who argued that “we are obviously in a very strange time” and mentioned the pandemic, climate change, school shootings and “years of political cacophony” as possible factors. “I feel like the unthinkable has become the thinkable … and cannibalism is very much in that category of the unthinkable,” she said.
– Journalist Ian Miles Cheong asked about it on his Twitter account: “Stop normalizing cannibalism.”
– “I will not eat bugs and I certainly will not eat my neighbors,” rapper Zuby wrote . “What they need is therapy. If they are suggesting it or writing about it, they are not normal,” said another tweeter. New Drug About 10 Times Stronger Than Fentanyl Hits The Streets:
– Pyro, the street name of a new drug that is stronger than the high-risk narcotic fentanyl, has been circulating in Colorado and recently reportedly killed at least one person in Denver.
– The N-pyrrolidino Etonitazene drug is a high-potency synthetic opioid that is between 1,000 and 1,500 times stronger than morphine, while fentanyl is only around 100 times stronger than morphine.
– The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said in an alert on Thursday that the drug, in pill form in this seizure, appears to be light blue in color with darker blue flakes scattered throughout. One side of the pill has the letter “M” and the other side has the number 30 (to mimic a common morphine tablet). Bio Beach Restaurant in El Morche:
– Did you know that the owners of Bio Beach are from Argentina? As such, when they prepare meat, they know what they are doing. For meat lovers, one of their most celebrated dishes on the menu is their sizzling beef loin (La Entrana de Ternera) served with fresh vegetables (see pic). A delight for any gourmand with a discerning palate. If you are a perceptive consumer of fine food, you may just want to give them a try! A delicious meal on their lovely terrace facing the sea is an evening to remember! They also feature talented musicians to entertain you while dining.
– The Bio Beach lectures will start again on Sept. 14th at 11am. We’ll present an exciting program delivered by Louis C., a U3A member who is a Chef. He’ll bring you a fascinating lecture entitled: “Let’s Talk Rice” which will include its history, various types of rice, traditional ways of preparing this staple food for various cultures, etc… These U3A programmes are free, just order refreshments. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/); these social, educational and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade (right behind the church). We look forward to see you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com

Queen Revolution: 20 Aug. Finca El Porton, Alhaurin de la Torre
– Queen Generation comes from Italy to surprise with a particular way of understanding the concept of the legendary band. Actually, it is an international show that reflects what Queen concerts were like on stage. Moreover, in each of his performances, we can see him as the best double of Freddie Mercury that has currently existed for his best audience. Indeed, he is shown singing live and sitting at the piano interpreting the mythical songs that the artist did on piano and voice. That’s where the magic repeats itself. And of course, surrounded by the rest of his legendary band.
– Video projections are great and add so much to the show. Also the costume changes are very successful. And the great interpretation of this band, give Queen Generation all the necessary emotion. It’s like watching an aesthetic and musical replica of the concerts led by the immortal Freddie Mercury together with the mythical Queen. In this way, Queen Generation becomes a 2-hour international show, reviewing all of Queen’s hits, with the best live music. Entry €18

MALAGA

Three cruise ships with capacity for 9,000 passengers make a stopover in Malaga to coincide with the city’s fair:
– The first to arrive did so last Friday, coinciding with the fireworks that opened the proceedings of the summer fair. It was the Wind Surf (pic), a five-masted foremast schooner considered one of the largest cruising sailboats in the world.
– The arrival of one of the giants of the cruise sector, the Anthem of the Seas, with the capacity to carry almost 5,000 passengers, is scheduled for the 18th. This ship, weighing 168,666 tonnes and some 347 metres in length, will dock from Gibraltar at seven in the morning and will depart at four in the afternoon for Valencia.
– A day later, the MSC Orchestra will dock at the port, sailing from Marseille, and will arrive in Malaga at around eight in the morning to leave for Cadiz at seven in the evening. TORRE DEL MAR

A section of Andalucía avenue closed to traffic in Torre del Mar due to works: {Translation}
– From this Tuesday, 16th August, vehicles will be diverted in the Nerja-Malaga direction along the parallel road, from the roundabout with Victoria Kent Avenue to Clavel Street.
– Work begins in Torre del Mar on Avenida Andalucía, which will mean that the section of the road where the complete remodelling of the flowerbeds is to be carried out will be closed to traffic.
– This is specifically the area between the roundabout where Victoria Kent Avenue meets (the one that leads to the Regional Hospital) and the roundabout with Clavel Street (in the area of Plazamar, the Virgen de la Victoria Home and the Europa complex).
– In this first phase, which begins this Tuesday, 16th August, it will affect traffic in the direction of Nerja-Malaga, which, according to the Local Police Headquarters, will be diverted along the service road parallel to it. For the moment it will not affect traffic in the Malaga-Nerja direction, which will be able to circulate normally along Avenida Andalucia.
– As this temporary detour forces a large flow of cars to circulate along the service road in residential areas which are very busy at this time of year, the Local Police Headquarters ask residents, pedestrians and vehicle users to respect the signs and provisional indications and to take extreme caution. Ready to update your skincare routine to the next level and treat yourself with a quality plant-based cleanser?

-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Birmingham ROCKS- Black Sabbath bandmates Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi reunited onstage: The performance, which can be watched below, initially began with a brief snippet of “Iron Man,” the group’s classic 1971 single. Spain increases in 2022 its import of Russian gas, despite the war, while reducing its energy link with Algeria: {Translation, summary}
– In the seven months of 2022, Spain has bought more gas from Russia and much less from Algeria, both in the midst of the invasion of Ukraine and in the midst of the diplomatic conflict with the African country over the change of position of Pedro Sánchez’s government on the Sahara. In fact, purchases from Russia have increased by 15.6% since January, while imports from Algeria have fallen by 42%, according to Enagás’ Statistical Bulletin. ANDALUCIA

Orange warning for temperatures up to 40 degrees in Jaén and yellow in Cordoba and Granada: {Translation} 11/08/2022 09:50
– The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated, for this Thursday, the orange warning for temperatures that can reach 40 degrees in the province of Jaén, while maintaining the yellow warnings in Cordoba and Granada for excessive heat.
– All warnings are expected to be active from 13.00 to 20.59 hours.
– By provinces, in Jaén, the area of Cazorla and Segura is expected to reach 40 degrees, while Morena and Condado and the Guadalquivir Valley could reach 39 degrees.
– The risk of excessive heat is also expected in the provinces of Cordoba and Granada, where the countryside of Cordoba and the Cuenca del Genil in Granada will have maximum temperatures of up to 39 degrees.
– With regard to the forecast for Andalusia, the skies are expected to be partly cloudy with intervals of low clouds and morning mist in the western third, without ruling out fog, as well as cloudiness of diurnal evolution in the interior mountain ranges, with a small probability of isolated showers. However, a slight haze is not ruled out either, more likely in the south and east of the region.
– On the other hand, minimum temperatures will decrease in the western third and with little change in the rest of the region, while maximum temperatures will be unchanged or slightly higher. Winds will be variable and light with breezes, tending to the southwest. In addition, occasionally strong Levante is expected on the eastern Mediterranean coast. USA

CDC Admits It Gave False Information About COVID-19 Vaccine Surveillance: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is admitting it gave false information about COVID-19 vaccine surveillance, including inaccurately saying it conducted a certain type of analysis over one year before it actually did.
– The Epoch Times in July submitted a FOIA, or a request for non-public information, to the CDC for all reports from a team that was formed to study post-vaccination heart inflammation by analyzing reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a system run by the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
– The CDC not only said that the team did not conduct any abstractions or reports through October 2021, but that “an association between myocarditis and mRNA COVID-19 vaccination was not known at that time.”
– That statement was false. By April 2021, the U.S. military was raising the alarm about post-vaccination heart inflammation, and by June 2021, the CDC was publicly acknowledging a link. Further inaccurate info they provided is detailed in the source article. ENERGY CRISIS

The Big Rip-Off – How Can Spanish Electricity Providers Justify Charging Customers Unprecedented High Bills When They Are Making 24% More Profit Than Last Year with Execs Receiving Record Salaries/Bonuses?:
– The three main companies focused on electricity, Iberdrola, Endesa and Naturgy, closed the first half of the year, marked by the rise in gas prices, with a joint profit of 3,548 million euros, according to the income statements that have been published in recent weeks. It is 24% more in the same period of 2021. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/the-three-large-electricity-companies-shoot-their-profit-by-24-in-the-middle-of-the-debate-on-the-energy-tax/

The price of fuel falls 12% since June:
– The downward streak is the longest of the year and leaves gasoline and diesel prices at lows since May. Subtracting the bonus, they are the lowest prices since March.
– However, despite this reduction in prices, the price of fuel continues to be particularly high. It can be seen in the comparison with the summer of 2021. Collecting the discount, the price of a liter of gasoline is 17% more expensive than at the beginning of August last year, while in the case of diesel it is 30% higher.
– With current prices, filling an average 55-litre tank with both gasoline and diesel costs just over 90 euros, taking into account the aid of 20 cents per liter, which means paying around 13 euros more than in the same dates of 2021, in the case of gasoline, and 21.12 euros, in the case of diesel. HEALTH

Vegetarian / Vegan women more likely to fracture their hips in later life:
– Researchers said vegetarian diets “often have lower intakes of nutrients that are linked with bone and muscle health” after their study found female vegetarians had a 33% increased risk of hip fracture compared to regular meat eaters. The study, which involved more than 26,000 women aged 35-69 from across the UK, assessed the risk of hip fracture among vegetarians, pescatarians – those who eat fish but not meat – and occasional meat eaters compared with regular meat eaters. Experts from the University of Leeds found that an elevated risk of hip fracture was found only among vegetarian women compared with women who regularly consumed meat. Study finds that sound plus electrical body stimulation has potential to treat chronic pain:
– New technique could relieve pain for individuals with various chronic and neurological conditions.
– A University of Minnesota Twin Cities-led team has found that electrical stimulation of the body combined with sound activates the brain’s somatosensory or “tactile” cortex, increasing the potential for using the technique to treat chronic pain and other sensory disorders. The researchers tested the non-invasive technique on animals and are planning clinical trials on humans in the near future.
– While the researchers used needle stimulation in their experiments, one could achieve similar results using electrical stimulation devices, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) units, which are widely available for anyone to buy at pharmacies and stores. You probably already have a smartphone and earbuds to provide the sound factor. The researchers hope that their findings will lead to a treatment for chronic pain that’s safer and more accessible than drug approaches.

TECH

The Slow Death of Fakebook- Youth bails out:
– Facebook, once the go-to social media platform for many, has plummeted in popularity, particularly among younger users, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. In a 2015 overview, Pew found that 71% of teens ages 13 to 17 used Facebook. It easily beat out platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter among that demographic.
– But 2022 paints a very different picture of the social media landscape. The share of 13- to 17-year-olds who said they use Facebook dropped from 71% in the 2015 study to 32% today, Pew found.
– As Facebook’s popularity sinks, YouTube has become the dominating platform among teens, who are also using social media apps like TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram. Instagram and Facebook are both owned by parent company Meta.
– While Facebook still beats out Twitter among Gen Zs, Snapchat and Instagram have dwarfed its popularity. Sixty-two percent of Gen Zs use Instagram and 59% use Snapchat, according to Pew. TikTok also beats Facebook in popularity, with 67% of respondents saying they use the short-form video app, Pew reported.
– When asked about what app they used “almost constantly,” teens, 19% of them, again pointed to YouTube as their most-used platform. TikTok was second in this category with 16%, followed by Snapchat with 15%, Instagram at 10% and Facebook at 2%.
– When it comes to more specific demographics, like those who identify as boys versus those who identify as girls, Pew found that boys were more likely to use YouTube, Twitch and Reddit. Black and Hispanic teens use TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp more than white teens, according to Pew.
