Recommendations & Requests

Going to / from Airport: The information from Nerja Foreigners office is that you are allowed to go to the airport. I landed last week at 10.30pm. My husband collected me. There were no police on the roads but we were stopped at the exit to Nerja. We showed the Guardia Civil my flight details, passenger locator form (QR code) and my passport. They were happy with the information given and waved us through. Dawn, Nerja, Towellfamily at Hotmail . com

Hearing aids: I have new hearing aids from Auditec, in Torre del mar (near the Hospital). I would like to recommend their friendly, efficient service, up to date technology and excellent after service. English and German are spoken.

Scotland Shuts its doors: Entering the country from the rest of the UK is banned. Crossing the Scottish border will be illegal from the end of this week under sweeping new Covid restrictions which critics have described as ‘deeply flawed’.
As of 6pm on Friday, entering or leaving Scotland without a reasonable excuse is banned and anyone caught doing so could be slapped with a £60 fine.
People living within Level Three or Level Four lockdown areas – which includes vast swathes of central Scotland – are also not permitted to leave their area.
But First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been hit with claims that the rules cannot be legally put in place by Scottish parliament – sparking fears that lockdown-defying travellers could dispute their fines.
Futhermore, a list of bizarre exceptions have been put in place which would allow the travel rules to be breached.
Scots can leave the country – or their locked down area – to feed an animal, donate blood or take a driving test.
Exemptions to the travel ban also apply for more common essential travel reasons, including for health, work or for school.
It also emerged that people who are banned from travelling to an airport because of the rules are unlikely to receive compensation if their flight goes ahead.

Tennis News- Djokovic tops Zverev, into semis in London: Novak Djokovic ensured the world’s top four players reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals for the first time since 2004 by eliminating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Friday.
The top-ranked Djokovic faces Dominic Thiem on Saturday as he goes for a record-tying sixth title at the season-ending tournament, and a first since 2015.
No. 2-ranked Rafael Nadal will take on No. 4 Daniil Medvedev in the second semifinal. Nadal is trying for the 10th time to win his first ATP Finals crown.
Medvedev warmed up by blowing away Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3 late Friday in the empty O2 Arena, topping their group with three wins in six sets. Source: https://www.tsn.ca/djokovic-beats-zverev-advances-to-semifinals-at-atp-finals-1.1554432

Do digital Covid-19 contact tracing apps work? Here’s what you need to know: Effective contact tracing, whether it’s done by a human or by an app, is a three-pronged process: identify who has the virus, identify who those people have spent time with, and convince those contacts to stay home.
Access to testing has remained a fundamental problem—apps can’t work if users don’t get tested for covid-19. And if people do get tests, they need to trust their governments (or tech companies) enough to enter positive results into the app. Finally, everyone who gets an exposure notification needs to take advice about properly isolating. EU hit by new crisis, this time over money and values: The European Union still hasn’t completely sorted out its messy post-divorce relationship with Britain, but it has already been plunged into another major crisis.
This time the 27-member union is being tested as Poland and Hungary block passage of its budget for the next seven years and an ambitious package aimed at rescuing economies ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic.
Their objection? A new “rule-of-law mechanism” that would allow the bloc to deny funds to countries that violate EU established democratic norms – something that both Poland and Hungary have been accused of doing for years.
Ahead of a virtual EU summit Thursday where leaders hope to end the stalemate, here is a look at the budget battle. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/budapest-poland-summits-coronavirus-pandemic-hungary-dc67676c3ec8210551a2613fb6b1fa31

Correcting flawed submissions: I only make corrections if received by the 6pm deadline the day the incorrect post is published. This is so it can be fixed in the following issue from when it appeared. People posting For Sale items should check their posts in new daily issues for accuracy. If you send an incorrect submission, or you forget to include the photos, please send in a new, full corrected submission and ask me to ignore the previous, incorrect submission. I am too busy to keep track of partial submissions in different emails and patch them together. Your cooperation is appreciated.

‘Crazy ant’ species invades Costa del Sol homes: The so-called ‘crazy ant’ species, or Paratrechina longicornis, has been spotted in Malaga and Axarquia.
The tiny ants don’t bite humans, but they can be invasive as they often enter homes to find food, particularly fruit. They can also take over outdoor spaces as they feed on aphids. They have been given the name ‘crazy ant’ as they move “extremely quickly” when they are threatened and make “erratic movements” in their retreat. Guide to the aid of 1,000 euros from the Junta de Andalucía for the self-employed- how to request them and what is the term: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The Junta de Andalucía will process ” in order of entry and up to the limit of the budget allocation” applications to receive direct aid of 1,000 euros for self-employed or self-employed workers who carry out their activity in the hospitality, commerce, transport sectors by taxi, hairdresser and fairs affected by the restrictions derived from the state of alarm due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and will have a maximum period of two months “to notify the resolution of the concession procedure.”
This is stated in Decree-Law 29/2020, of November 17, which establishes urgent measures for the maintenance of the activity of certain economic sectors and of tax support to the gaming sector as a consequence of the situation caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus and goes into effect this Thursday.
Said decree-law regulates the line of subsidies endowed with 80 million euros included in the new support plan for SMEs and the self-employed designed by the Junta de Andalucía and which plans to benefit 80,000 self-employed or self-employed workers who carry out their activity in the sectors of hospitality, commerce, taxi transport, hairdressing shops and trade fairs affected by the restrictions derived from the state of alarm due to the pandemic to help sustain its continuity, avoiding its definitive cessation and the consequent destruction of employment.
Only ten days deadline
The standard, consulted by Europa Press, will allow requesting assistance with a responsible declaration that the required requirements are met and will set a deadline for submitting applications of ten calendar days from the day following publication of the publication of the extract of call in the BOJA.
To this end, it establishes that “self-employed or self-employed workers, with tax domicile in Andalusia, who were registered in the Special Regime of Social Security for Self-Employed or Self-Employed Workers , in The date of entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, which declares the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by Covid-19, maintaining that until the day on which the deadline for submitting applications begins ”.
In the case of the hospitality, commerce, transport and hairdressing sectors, the Board establishes that the applicants are not beneficiaries “of any of the extraordinary benefits of cessation of activity regulated in articles 13 and 14 of Royal Decree-Law 30/2020 , of September 29, of social measures in defense of employment, of the provision of cessation of activity compatible with self-employment or of the extension of the benefits already caused under the protection of article 9 of Royal Decree-Law 24/2020 , of June 26, of social measures to reactivate employment and protection of self-employment and competitiveness in the industrial sector, regulated in the fourth additional provision of the aforementioned Royal Decree-Law 30/2020, of September 29 ”.
The decree-law determines that the beneficiaries of the subsidies “will be obliged to maintain their status as self- worker employed or autonomous , continuing to be registered in the Special Regime of Social Security for Self-Employed or Self-Employed Workers without interruption, for at least three months counting from the day following the one on which the period begins application submission . They must also notify the competent body “as soon as it is known” if after submitting the application they are beneficiaries of extraordinary benefits declared incompatible.
The rule establishes that the grant award procedure “will be processed and resolved in a non-competitive competition regime “, the grants will be awarded “in accordance with the principles of publicity, transparency, competition, objectivity, equality and non-discrimination” and its Management will be carried out “with criteria of effectiveness in meeting the objectives set and efficiency in the allocation and use of public resources.”
Telematic presentation
Subsidy applications will be submitted “solely and exclusively online” and will be completed in a form that will be available at the virtual office of the Ministry of Employment, Training and Self-Employed Work, which can be accessed through the catalog of administrative procedures available at the link , and must include an electronic device and / or the email address of the interested party.
In addition, it must accompany a responsible statement by which the applicant states under his responsibility that he “meets the requirements” to obtain the subsidy; that “it is not involved in any of the circumstances that prohibit obtaining” the status of beneficiary; and that “it has not requested or obtained other subsidies, aid, income or resources requested and, where appropriate, granted, for the same purpose, by any Public Administrations or public or private entities, national or international , which, individually or in concurrence with other subsidies or aid exceeds the amount of the subsidy ”. In the case of having requested or obtained other subsidies, aid, income or resources, the declaration must indicate “the grantor, date and amount” .
The rule establishes that the deadline for submitting applications will be “10 calendar days from the day following the publication of the extract of the call in the BOJA ” or “up to the limit of the budget allocation that, by resolution of the holder of the Directorate General competent in matters of self-employment, will be made public on the website of the Ministry responsible for this matter ”. It also establishes that “applications submitted after the deadline will be inadmissible” and a period of ten days is established to be able to “correct” data not completed or documentation not provided.
By order of arrival
Regarding the processing of the aid, the decree-law details that «the instruction and resolution of the applications will be carried out following the correlative order of entry in the single telematic registry of the Administration of the Junta de Andalucía, and up to the limit of the budget allocation, if any, unless these have to be corrected not qualify or not accompanied by the required documentation, which will be considered in the order of priority to be followed for resolution, the date the applications meet the requirements and / or the required documentation , once the absence or insufficiency that may have been appreciated by the Administration has been corrected. ”
It also determines that grant applications “will be processed, resolved and notified individually” and in the procedure “the hearing process will be dispensed with.” Resolutions must be “motivated” and the maximum term to resolve and notify the resolution of the granting procedure “will be two months from the date the application has entered the single telematic registry of the Administration of the Junta de Andalucía” .
This maximum period of two months may be extended “in accordance with the provisions of article 23 of Law 39/2015, of October 1”, a rule that establishes that “exceptionally, when the available personal and material resources have been exhausted, the competent body to resolve may agree in a reasoned way to extend the maximum period of resolution and notification, this may not be greater than that established for the processing of the procedure. Apple Security Scandal- Apple Lets Some of its Big Sur macOS Apps Bypass Firewall and VPNs: Apple is facing the heat for a new feature in macOS Big Sur that allows many of its own apps to bypass firewalls and VPNs, thereby potentially allowing malware to exploit the same shortcoming to access sensitive data stored on users’ systems and transmit them to remote servers.
Unfortunately, the iPhone maker has released the latest version of macOS to the public on November 12, and the behavior has been left unchanged, prompting concerns from security researchers, who say the change is ripe for abuse.
Of particular note is the possibility that the bypass can leave macOS systems open to attack, not to mention the inability to limit or block network traffic at users’ discretion.
According to Jamf security researcher Patrick Wardle, the company’s 50 Apple-specific apps and processes have been exempted from firewalls like Little Snitch and Lulu. Full story: https://thehackernews.com/2020/11/apple-lets-some-of-its-big-sur-macos.html

Tennis News- World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is stunned by Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Finals: Daniil Medvedev produced a brilliant display to beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-3 6-3, at the ATP Finals on Wednesday. The 24-year-old made beating the 17-time grand slam champion look comfortable as he progressed into the semifinals of the tournament.
Medvedev has now won three of his last four meetings against Djokovic, who can still qualify for the knockout stages if he beats Alexander Zverev in his next match. Full article: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/18/tennis/novak-djokovic-daniil-medvedev-atp-finals-spt-intl/index.html

Moreno decides this Sunday whether to “extend, make more flexible or toughen” the measures against the coronavirus in Andalusia: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno , will preside next Sunday the meeting of the Advisory Committee on High Impact Public Health Alerts to analyze the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic and decide whether to “extend, make more flexible or toughen” the restrictions that were activated at 00.00 hours on November 10 and that will be in force until 00.00 hours on Tuesday 24.
This was announced by the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administration and the Interior, Elías Bendodo, at the press conference after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council, where he warned that if the curve of contagions, hospital admissions and ICU admissions is not reduced “we will have to continue taking measures, whatever is necessary.”
Bendodo has assured that the objective of the Andalusian Government with these measures is that next December, “if the curve allows it, can be made more flexible the economy and open a little to save the Christmas season “, and has insisted on the message that “we cannot relax for a minute” because “we are risking the future of an entire generation.”
Moreno himself warned this Tuesday on his Twitter account that the “slight drop” in the incidence data of the Covid-19 coronavirus in the autonomous community during the last two days “is still insufficient” and has defended that “we cannot relax for a single minute. A European rocket carrying Spanish and French satellites worth $370 million crashed shortly after launch early Tuesday: The failure is a major blow not only to countries that lost satellites and the European Space Agency but for Arianespace, the European manufacturer of the Vega rocket.
Vega rockets, which launch satellites into orbit, have failed on two of their last three missions.
The last failure was July 2019 when a rocket was carrying a military spy satellite for the United Arab Emirates.
“We deeply apologise towards our customers,” company CEO Stephane Israel tweeted Tuesday.
The latest rocket was launched late Monday from French Guyana (0152GMT Tuesday) and continued for eight minutes, after which it veered off course and the launch team lost control of the rocket. Eventually, it fell onto an uninhabited area, the company said in a statement.
The failed rocket was carrying Spain’s SEOSAT-Ingenio satellite, able to take detailed photos of the earth up to 60 kilometers (37 miles) wide. Full atricle: https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/european-rocket-crashes-destroying-370m-in-satellites/2047336

Football News- Spain Deals Germany Its Worst Defeat Ever, Reaches Nations League Final Four: Spain handed Germany its worst defeat in a competitive match on Wednesday, winning 6-0 to advance to the Final Four of UEFA’s Nations League.
Ferran Torres scored a hat trick to lead Spain to the historic victory in the win-or-go-home match in Group 4.
Germany’s only five-goal loss in a competitive game had been West Germany’s 8-3 defeat to Hungary at the 1954 World Cup group stage. West Germany went on to beat Hungary in the final. In non-competitive matches, Germany had also lost 6-0 to Austria in a friendly in 1931.
The victory ended a three-match winless streak for Spain, which hasn’t gone four games without a win since the late 1980s. Full article: https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/11/17/spain-germany-video-nations-league-ferran-torres

Torrox Costa Bakery Closures: On my way to the Monday morning market I noticed the German bakery next to Bar Amsterdam, Avenida America was closed and has a notice in the window, in German only. My reading of it is that due to the current situation they are either temporarily closed, or have restricted hours. The recently established Spanish bakery on the market street, run by some very nice younger folks, is now totally empty and the signage removed.

Córdoba is the province with the highest number of deaths , with seven, followed by Granada, Seville and Jaén, with four each. Below are Huelva with two deaths and Almería with one, while Malaga and Cádiz do not add deaths in 24 hours.
Hospitalized
Regarding the care pressure in hospitals , this Monday the reduction of patients that began at the end of last week was broken by adding another 90 patients admitted , which places the total occupation in 3,269 beds, of which 505 are ICU beds; two more than on Sunday.

macOS Big Sur Is Bricking Some Older MacBook Pros: Now that macOS Big Sur has been released, we’re sure that some of you might be rushing out to upgrade to the latest version of macOS. However, before you do that, it should be noted that according to several user reports on the MacRumors forum, it appears that the latest update is bricking some older MacBook Pro models.
There have also been other reports sighted on Reddit and the Apple Support Communities. According to these reports, users are claiming that during the course of update to Big Sur, their laptops suddenly display a black screen and appears to be stuck that way. Users have tried resetting their laptops in a variety of ways, but apparently they are unable to and have not been able to bypass the black screen.
It is unclear if all MacBook Pros are affected by this, but so far a lot of the reports come from users who own the 2013 and mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro models, but this isn’t to say that newer models or the larger 15-inch or 16-inch models aren’t affected as well, just perhaps on a smaller scale. New residencia cards for British people in Spain: Surely I can’t be the only Digamite puzzled by Christine’s post on Sunday about not being able to obtain the new resident’s card despite having lived and worked here (from what she said) for many years?
The rights of freedom of movement between EU countries started in 1993 (the UK being a member from 1973 and Spain from 1986) so I’m not sure how long she has been here. We obtained residencias in the early 2000s when the process was much simpler and neither of us worked or were of pension age. If someone has lived and worked here for some years and has not yet applied for residencia, then I’m not sure why any particular organisation should be looking at their ‘problem’

Contraindications to raising the minimum wage: The minimum wage in Spain has risen by about 30% in just two years and now reaches 950 euros per month. According to the IMF, the 8% rise approved by the PP Government in 2017 caused that “employees with a minimum wage, over 37 years old and with a seniority of at least nine months, but less than six years, had 17 percentage points more than probability of losing their jobs…” Full article: https://spainsnews.com/contraindications-to-raising-the-minimum-wage/

COVID-19 reveals how obesity harms the body in real time: In most recent news, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 73% of nurses who have been hospitalized from COVID-19 had obesity. In addition, a recent study found that obesity could interfere with the effectiveness of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Initially physicians believed that having obesity increased only your risk of getting sicker from COVID-19, not your chance of being infected in the first place. Now, newer analysis shows that not only does obesity increase your risk of being sicker and dying from COVID-19; obesity increases your risk of getting infected in the first place. Golf News- Dustin Johnson’s record-breaking Masters score tops legendary Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth performances: Any time a golfer can break a record held by Tiger Woods, that’s about as good as it gets.
That’s what Dustin Johnson accomplished at the 2020 Masters. His 72-hole score of 268 (20-under par) is the lowest such score in the history of a tournament that’s been played 84 times. It broke a mark previously held by Tiger Woods (1997) and Jordan Spieth (2015). PHOTO: Getty Images. Big Tech News- Technology companies’ services could be banned in EU:  Technology companies’ services could be banned from the European market if they do not heed EU regulation, Europe’s industry chief Thierry Breton told German weekly Welt am Sonntag, as the European Commission finalizes rules on internet companies.
Breton will announce new draft rules known as the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act together with European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager on Dec. 2.
The rules will set out a list of do’s and don’ts for gatekeepers – online companies with market power – forcing them to share data with rivals and regulators and not to promote their services and products unfairly.
The new draft rules come as critics of U.S. tech giants, which include companies and industry bodies, question the EU’s rulings against Alphabet GOOGL.O unit Google, saying they have not curbed its allegedly anti-competitive behaviour. Some want EU enforcers to go further than just ordering companies to stop such practices.
The draft rules would allow the EU to ban companies or part of their services from the 27-country bloc as an extreme option. Until the draft rules are adopted EU antitrust and digital regulators do not currently have the power to impose such bans.
“Strict rules must be enforceable”, Breton told Welt am Sonntag.

DoctorLaptop’s Computer Repairs: Since computers have become central to most people’s lives when locked down, I highly recommend you keep your current computers properly maintained; if you have not had a proper maintenance service done in the past year, do it asap. If we get locked down again and you have computer problems you may not be able to deliver it to me for repairs. A proper servicing is the best way to avoid breakdowns. New computers, especially budget priced models by major manufacturers, are in short supply due to shipping disruptions. Those that are available are being sold at significant markups over 2019 prices. So keeping what you have in good condition would be wise.
-The basic guideline is if you use your computer 2 hours a day, get it serviced annually to maintain optimal performance, especially if you do online banking and shopping. If used 6 to 8 hours a day, then servicing every 6 months is advisable.
-If you are relying on a laptop, you need to know the life expectancy of recent laptops is only 4-5 yrs, pre-2015 laptops had a 5-7 yr expected lifespan. Keeping them maintained properly can extend that another few years. Installing a new Hard Drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows and adding more RAM all can bring great performance improvements in older models. Even Microsoft recommends reinstalling Windows after 5 years.
All work by appointment. Windows / Apple / Android / Linux
When asking for assistance please provide the make and model number of the device, and the version of operating system used.

Recommendations & Requests

New residencia cards for British people in Spain:
Some of us are unable to meet the requirements to obtain these cards. When the UK became a member of the EU some of us got on our bikes, travelled to Spain and became “entrepreneurs” of one kind or another. We took short-term contracts where available (like majority of young Spanish people) or nothing “legal” at all, like countless other people just trying to earn a living. Now we are left high and dry. Does anyone know of any organisations / groups looking at this issue? Particularly in relation to Brexit?
I would be interested to receive any relevant information.
Christine, Torrox

Thanks: Hi Naythan, I just want to repeat what the earlier reader wrote thanking you for your unfailing dedication to keep the news forum in operation. I plan to be in Nerja in Dec, if easyjet is still flying. When/if life settles to normal, we will have lunch together.

Andalucía adds 41 deaths in 24 hours: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
Andalusia adds 41 deaths from coronavirus in 24 hours this Saturday, November 14, five less than the day before, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Families, which counts 4,195 positives confirmed by PCR and antigen tests, 288 less than this Friday and 798 less than Saturday last week.
The 41 deaths this day are the lowest figure since last Monday after registering 95 deaths last Tuesday, the highest daily figure of the entire pandemic; 62 last Wednesday; 68 last Thursday – third highest figure in 24 hours – and 46 on Friday.
This Saturday, Seville is the province with the highest number of deaths, with 13, followed by Granada with eight . Behind are Almería with five, Córdoba with four, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga with three each and Cádiz with two.
As for the cases diagnosed, the 4,195 positives are 288 less than those recorded the day before and 798 less than those registered seven days ago. Seville repeats for the third consecutive day as the province with the most daily cases with 1,092, followed by Granada with 833, Cádiz with 514, Malaga with 497, Almería with 340, Córdoba with 330, Huelva with 297 and Jaén with 292.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has asked this Saturday “great prudence” for this first weekend in which the new measures are in force such as the curfew at 10 pm and the closure of the activity not essential at 6:00 p.m. and has assured that “acting responsibly is good insurance for our health and that of our family.” Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-coronavirus-andalucia-andalucia-suma-este-sabado-41-muertes-coronavirus-24-horas-202011141359_noticia.html?ref=https:%2F%2Fsevilla.abc.es%2F

Two-euro test, Malaga’s solution to control Covid-19 in hotels and restaurants: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The Malaga City Council is going to buy 30,000 antigen tests to promote a Covid-19-free environment in the service sector, mainly in hotels and restaurants. Customers will be able to undergo the test for a symbolic price of two euros , when the cost is usually around 50 or 60 euros.
The initiative is part of an agreement that the Consistory will sign this Friday with the Association of Hoteliers of Malaga (Mahos) and the Association of private clinics in the province. It is one of the lines of work of the project launched by the City Council so that the capital is consolidated as a safe destination against the coronavirus.
The tests will be purchased through the municipal company Promálaga and will be provided to privately owned clinics that join the agreement. They will be the ones who will make the infrastructure and personnel necessary to carry out the tests available, as reported this Friday by Málaga Hoy.
Although they will be voluntary, the aim is for hotel and restaurant customers to know whether or not they are infected before going to an establishment where they have made a reservation. To take the test, they must register and fill out a web form with a code provided by the beneficiary companies.
The client will not even pay anything since, according to the same sources, the regulatory bases establish that Promálaga undertakes to contribute to the program the maximum total amount of 60,000 euros, an amount that will be distributed among the medical services that adhere to the agreement in depending on the number of tests carried out and in proportion to the maximum quantities of tests and the amount stipulated ”.
Also the employees of the participating establishments can take the tests, which will give peace of mind to both the business and the customers. In addition, projecting the image of a Covid-19 free environment will help energize the sector, severely punished by the health crisis and the containment measures imposed by the health authorities. Austria orders three-week lockdown to rein in surging coronavirus cases: Austria on Saturday ordered a three-week lockdown in a last-ditch effort to bring surging coronavirus cases under control and relieve the stress on the health service in time for retailers to reopen in the run-up to Christmas. The conservative-led government had called a lockdown a last resort, but it was left with no alternative to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. The new lockdown is due to start on Tuesday and end on Monday, Dec. 7. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-austria-idUSKBN27U0CE

Spain’s latest ‘Ecce Homo’- How a botched restoration made global headlines: What was once the face of a shepherdess in the northern city of Palencia has been completely disfigured by sloppy workmanship.
The botched restoration has already drawn comparisons to the infamous Ecce Homo painting which was disfigured beyond recognition by an amateur artist in Borja in 2012. Full atricle:

UK plans to ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to announce next week a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, five years earlier than previously planned, the Financial Times reported on Saturday.
Britain had originally planned to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered cars from 2040, as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and in February Johnson brought this forward to 2035.
Citing unidentified industry and government figures, the FT said Johnson now intended to move the date forward again to 2030 in a speech on environmental policy he is expected to give next week. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN27U0DG

Lost: I lost my watch, a Fitbit Charge 3, on Friday 13th November somewhere between Tizos at El Ingenio at about 2.15pm and the Hospital Comarcal in Velez Malaga where I noticed it missing at around 2.35 pm. I have enquired in El Ingenio, at Tizos and in the hospital with no success, but suspect it may have slipped from my wrist while walking between the car and one of these areas as the strap had come loose before. I was down on the coast for a hospital appointment and had gone to Tizos first for some lunch. I’ll not be able to return to the area any time soon because of the restriction of movement, so am hoping that someone has spotted it – it is very distinctive with an apple green silicone strap – and picked it up to hand in somewhere. If you have found it or know of someone who has found it, can you please contact me (Gwen) on 672770607 or by email: gjp1949 at Hotmail dot com. Many thanks. Competa area

Without a decrease in Covid infections in Andalusia there will be more restrictions: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The curve of new coronavirus infections in Andalusia refuses to drop sharply. The 4,737 infections registered yesterday in the statistics of the Ministry of Health bring us closer to the figures at the end of October, before the application of the new measures to control the pandemic. With these perspectives, it will not even be possible to meet the most favorable forecasts that the Board is considering and that, according to the vice president of the Andalusian Government , Juan Marín, go through “maintaining” the restrictions in force “at least one week, ten or 15 days” more beyond November 23. “If the health data does not accompany, we will have to make other decisions,” he remarked.
Infections are increasing in all provinces – except Malaga, with only 15 cases less than those recorded on Wednesday. The situation worries in Seville (1,320 cases) and Granada, which, despite initiating mobility limitations in advance, continues around a thousand daily positives, yesterday there were 920.
In this province, the healthcare pressure is maximum with 845 admitted patients, of which 126 require intensive care. This number exceeds the 81 ICU beds that its hospitals have under normal conditions and exceeds half the total number of ICU beds foreseen in the contingency plans of the Ministry of Health.
The Malaga Clinic
But the tension is generalized in all Andalusian hospitals. As an example, the Clinic of Malaga, the province that now has the lowest incidence rate in Andalusia, has installed about twenty beds in the staff cafeteria, transferring this service to the general cafeteria of the center that will not serve the public «from exceptional, temporary and provisional way ”.
El Clínico was the worst hospital in Andalusia during the first wave of the coronavirus and is now preparing for the most complicated weeks of the second wave.
Despite this greater clinical pressure from the pandemic, the most striking data yesterday in the statistics was the decrease in the number of hospitalized, 3,429, which is 48 less than on Wednesday. However, 23 more beds were needed for critical patients in the ICU, which brought the number of patients admitted at this time to the Intensive Care units of Andalusian hospitals to 506. These variations in the statistics of hospitalized patients, with numerous discharges or intensive demand for ICU beds in the same day, is explained by the more rapid evolution of the symptoms of the disease in patients during this second wave of the pandemic. €6k fine for arriving in Spain without a PCR test: As of November 23, a negative PCR test will be required of all travellers coming from any of the 65 ‘at-risk’ countries.
Tourists and travellers arriving in Spain could face fines up to €6000 if they cannot produce a negative PCR test, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya. In addition to the monetary sanctions, they will be required to undergo a rapid coronavirus test to determine whether they are negative. Spain prepares support package to aid bars and restaurants hit by coronavirus crisis: According to sources, the measures under consideration include: subsidies and waivers on Social Security payments, increasing the soft loans available through the state-owned bank Instituto de Crédito Español (ICO), helping businesses renegotiate their rental contracts and opening completely new lines of funding for projects and specific needs. Another option is direct money transfers, which is what has been demanded by the industry’s main associations. “Funding lines alone will not be enough because businesses are already heavily in debt,” said José Luis Yzuel, the president of the Spanish Hostelry Association, which represents bars, restaurants and cafés in the country. Protests In Malaga Over New Bar And Restaurant Restrictions:
The march started out as a small group, but soon grew in size, getting a lot louder, with the crowd at one point stretching to the end of Calle Larios, and with some very prominent figures from the hospitality industry taking part, including Javier Frutos, who is the president of the local restaurateurs’ association Mahos, accompanied by Rafael Prado from Café Central, and José Cobos, joint owner of El Pimpi, along with owners of numerous chiringuitos, and also some representatives of local companies who supply the bar and restaurant industry.
Frutos stated, “They said that nobody would be left behind, but we have been. We feel unprotected and we have no help”.
A similar protest took place Thursday evening in Ronda as well.

What’s On

Tell them you saw it on DigameXtra! Tell your favourite establishments to post on DigameXtra to get next-day publicity!

All municipal boundaries in Andalucía closed on Tuesday, with curfew now from 10pm to 7am, and non-essential businesses shutting at 6pm.

Due to the new Covid restrictions, to avoid disappointment I suggest you call to confirm events and times before the event. -Ed.

Editor’s Note: Sorry, I am reluctant to post most new What’s On events. There have been many cancellations the last few days. There appears to be some confusion regarding the new Covid restrictions in the hospitality sector, and how they are being applied in each municipality. I’ve also heard of difficulty for musicians moving between municipalities (see post below). I had 3 cancellations today, just hours after they were submitted, all due to “new rule” enforcement.
If you are a venue, restaurant or band, and you are reasonably sure you have a show/event happening within a week, I will post those. But for now, with the spectre of stricter Covid regulations on the horizon (see second article in today’s News Section), I see no point in posting events more than a week in advance. We will know more about the Covid & Curfew situation by Nov 23. DigameXtra Sponsors may ignore this.

CANCELLED: Liquid Lunch gig at Chiringuito, Caleta de Velez-Malaga, Sat Nov 14th.
Due to the new movement restrictions. we have had to cancel this show. That’s twice this year, it could be said we are slightly miffed. Stay safe everyone.

Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation for Tony Roam: It is a red letter day when I collect my parcels from Tony. He runs a great service where parcels are delivered to his UK address, he brings them over and we collect from him. These come from many sources, family, specialist companies, Amazon Ebay etc. Of course our first priority is to support local businesses especially at this time but what we need is sometimes not available. Sadly also we have had incidents of lost postal parcels. Tony’s service is regular prompt and efficient and he’s always cheerful and pleasant. The small charge for this excellent service is well worth it. I’m sure his efficiency is a good indicator that if you take trouble over the small things then you will give great service over the big ones. Sandra, Nerja.

New device puts music in your head — no headphones required: That’s the possibility presented by “sound beaming,” a new futuristic audio technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday it will debut a desktop device that beams sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones. The listening sensation is straight out of a sci-fi movie. The 3-D sound is so close it feels like it’s inside your ears while also in front, above and behind them.
The lack of headphones means it’s possible to hear other sounds in the room clearly.
The technology uses a 3-D sensing module and locates and tracks the ear position sending audio via ultrasonic waves to create sound pockets by the user’s ears. Sound can be heard in stereo or a spatial 3-D mode that creates 360 degree sound around the listener, the company said.
While the concept of sound beaming is not new, Noveto was the first to launch the technology and their SoundBeamer 1.0 desktop device will be the first branded consumer product.

Looking for a day out with a difference?: During these uncertain times we could all do with having as much tranquility in our life’s as possible, one place where you’re sure to find this in abundance is in El Canuelo. A protected nature reserve east of Nerja on the coast road. Fancy a hike? Take the main track down from the car park to the beach for rewards of breathtaking views of the coastline as far as Malaga, or opt for one of the nature trails where you are sure to catch a glimpse of the roaming wild goats. The two hour return hike from El Canuelo to Cantarrijan is sure to get your heart pumping. Even in winter snorkelers take to Canuelo’s calm bay to enjoy the plentiful marine life, the resident octopus being my favorite. You never have to worry about social distancing as at this time of year during the week it’s likely you’ll have the beach all to yourself.
For those who would rather just relax and enjoy the ambience of
this hidden gem, the restaurant El Parasio serves up delicious
traditional and european cuisines. The paella and avocado salad are particularly yummy, using fresh products from local farms. In the winter months the restaurant’s beach front location offers spectacular vistas of the sun setting on Mediterranean. As El Canuelo is a protected area you are not permitted to drive the 1km from the car park down to the beach, but the restaurant offers all it’s customers a complimentary taxi service to and from the restaurant. They also have kayaks and sun loungers available to rent. The restaurant is open everyday all year except in bad weather conditions. For reservations or to be collected from the car park, contact Juan or Himed on 722238094. This is the last beach in the district of Nerja, so under current restrictions it’s still permitted for people staying in the Nerja área to come visit .
I Hope El Canuelo can capture your heart in same way it did mine.

US Veterans Day 11/11/2020, a message from the Veterans Health Administration:

What’s really behind Madrid’s improved coronavirus figures?:
Experts warn that data being reported may not accurately represent the real situation, as changes in testing methods are affecting the numbers. Experts warn that this could be due to the introduction of antigen tests, which take less time to process than a PCR but are less sensitive to detecting the virus. Another problem is that the tests – five million of which were bought by the Madrid government – were used in mass testing campaigns, which is precisely the context in which they are not recommended.
