Benamargosa celebrates the feast of Saint Sebastian, patron saint of the village, on Saturday Jan. 20th:
– Activities will start at nine in the morning “with the popular ringing of bells in honour of St. Sebastian, and the parade of the Municipal Band of Sedella”.
– Mass in honour of the patron saint is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
– The procession will take place at 18:00 with the collaboration of the parish group of Nuestro Padre Jesús y Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Benamargosa and the accompaniment of the Agrupación Musical Veracruz de Campillos. Carmen Millón will sing at the encierro accompanied by Manuel Millón.
– The municipal marquee on the river esplanade will open at 13:00. Nicolás Quintana will entertain the stage where the orchestra Onda Sonora will perform. The children’s area will be open from 14:00 to 18:00. There will also be a bar service. At 16:00 hours Macarena Albarración and Juan Antonio Morales will perform. From 21:00 to 00:00 the Orquesta Onda will be on stage. After this time the Mamajuana Party will begin with DJ Valvi.

Can the plastic pellets polluting the Galician coast reach Malaga?: {Translation, summary}

– The plastics polluting Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea come from a ship, the Toconao, which lost part of its cargo off the coast of northern Portugal. The accident took place on 8 December and six containers fell into the sea, one of them containing more than 1,000 sacks of these microplastics.
– In this case, according to the expert, if the Atlantic currents move southwards, they could carry the pellets from Galicia to the Strait of Gibraltar, and from there it would be relatively easy for them to end up on the coast of Malaga.
– For the moment, the Emergency Service 112 Andalucía has not registered any warning for the presence of pellets in Malaga. Something that has happened in Cádiz, where a private individual alerted of a small spillage on the beach of Bolonia, on a dune in the Natural Park of the Strait of Gibraltar. Cancer Is Striking More Young People, and Doctors Are Alarmed and Baffled (Really?):
– Cancer is hitting more young people in the U.S. and around the globe, baffling doctors. Diagnosis rates in the U.S. rose in 2019 to 107.8 cases per 100,000 people under 50, up 12.8% from 95.6 in 2000, federal data show. If you are offered a job via WhatsApp, think again because it is very likely to be a scam: {Translation}
– The scam has already reached Andalucía. In fact, this same writer has received a “suspicious” job offer via WhatsApp on her mobile phone in the last few hours.
– It already “smells” bad from minute zero. The message came from a phone with an Indonesian prefix, with the option to save the contact, called Darmadi Irawan. However, in the text, the sender introduces herself as Cristina, alludes to Linkedin, claims to work in Human Resources (which company?) and offers a job. “We pay €5 per task and you can earn up to €50-500 per day in your spare time by rating and commenting!
– It might be tempting, because writing reports and news, I don’t earn €500 a day. But it is obviously clear to me that it is a scam and I play along, in order to make this scam known.
– He sends a link for me to do my “first task”. Be careful not to click on it, however tempting it may be, because these are “malicious links” that are intended to obtain your data or, worse still, to get you to enter your bank details.
