Majority of Spaniards will not get coronavirus vaccine without knowing the effects, poll finds: Spaniards are very interested in the upcoming coronavirus vaccines. Eight in 10 people have recently sought information about their development, according to a survey that was published on Friday by the state-funded CIS research institute.
A third, meanwhile, are willing to get the vaccine as soon as possible, but the majority – 55% – want to wait to see what effects it has before they opt to be immunized. Of these, 59.6% would get vaccinated immediately if their doctor recommended them to do so based on their medical history or due to the risk of infecting a relative.
At the other end of the scale, 16.7% of those surveyed responded saying that they would not get vaccinated “under any circumstance,” not even if their doctor recommended it. For the Second Time Ever, an Asteroid Sample Returns to Earth: Japan has retrieved a capsule of asteroid dust from Australia’s remote outback after a six-year mission that may help uncover more about the origins of the planets and water, the Asian nation’s space agency said on Sunday.
“The probe landed on the asteroid twice, and the second time it created an artificial crater and collected some debris,” agency president Hiroshi Yamakawa told a news conference.
The spacecraft, launched in 2014 from Japan’s Tanegashima space centre, journeyed for four years to the asteroid Ryugu, where it gathered a sample and headed home in November 2019. Council criticised over “insensitive” Christmas spending: Velez-Malaga Council has been criticised over “insensitive” spending on Christmas lights when the money “could have been used to help those who suffer the most from the consequences of the crisis”. The Popular Party has accused the council of a “lack of sensitivity” after €196,000 was budgeted for the annual Christmas lights – the same as in 2019. Andalusia will extend the current measures against the coronavirus until the weekend after the bridge: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 04/12/2020 18:15h
The expert committee is scheduled to meet on December 10 to agree on the day-to-day conditions in the coming weeks.
The Board plans to extend the measures that are currently in force in Andalusia against the coronavirus – closure of establishments, curfew and perimeter closure of municipalities – until the weekend after the bridge, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Families to ABC.
Thus, the Governing Council, which will be held on December 9, Wednesday, will approve the extension of the measures, which will remain in force until the weekend of December 12 and 13. On Thursday the 10th the President of the Board will announce the new measures that will be in force during Christmas.
In this way, the measures that the Andalusian Government decides for the community and that will be communicated on December 10, once the bridge is over, will be applied after the indicated date.
It should be remembered that, right now, throughout Andalusia the same measures are imposed to stop the advance of the coronavirus pandemic. Non-essential commercial establishments and hospitality establishments must be closed at six in the afternoon; the curfew is imposed from ten at night until seven in the morning: and it is forbidden to enter and leave both the community and each municipality without just cause.
The meeting of the committee of experts on Thursday the 10th is scheduled to take place in the afternoon and that the chief executive will appear before the media at the end of the day to report on the decisions taken. The last committee meetings have been taking place on Sunday mornings.
The president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, has referred this Friday to the next meeting of the expert committee, trusting that if the “positive” evolution of recent days on the incidence of the pandemic in the community continues, the opening hours of hospitality and commerce businesses, especially before the next Christmas holidays may be modified.
He has indicated that the will of the Board is “to extend these hours as much as possible, but it has to be done with great serenity, with great balance and with a lot of head and, of course, taking into account the proposals made by the committee of experts.”
“Seeing the evolution of the data, which has been very positive since the last decisions adopted by the Andalusian Government, I tend to be positive, but I do not want to throw the bells flying”, as indicated by the president, who stressed that the decisions they have to be very thoughtful, prudent and balanced. A scam alert has been issued about a message for screening which is a hoax: The regional government has reported to national police that an SMS message, saying its from the health authority, is not from them and should be regarded as a hoax.
The message invites people to go for a screening and reads similar to the following,
“We are informing you that you have been selected to perform a collective screening test for COVID-19, you must be present with your DNI on December…” the message goes on to state a particular place and time, this message is a hoax, and the health authorities have made a statement to that effect.
In any instance, if any person is concerned whether or not a message received is genuine, then they must contact by phone their nearest health care centre.
Furthermore, people who receive these messages should be aware, the police claim that forwarding the message to others could be damaging and illegal.
When in any doubt, you are to contact your health centre or ask a health professional before doing anything or responding in any way. Source: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/12/04/hoax-sms-causes-confusion/

UPDATED 04Dec20- What we know about plans to open Spain’s ski resorts: Even as its northern neighbour France banned its ski resorts from opening and threatened border checks to stop people from crossing the border to ski, Spain has not completely ruled out opening its ski resorts. In fact, Spain’s Tourism Minister has insisted Spain is determined to open its ski resorts this season.
However restrictions on travel that have been announced over the Christmas period means it could be difficult for those who don’t live near a resort to get to the slopes, if they want to abide by the rules. The differences between the Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford coronavirus vaccines- what we know so far: Price and storage temperatures are among the various factors that set each of the three most promising candidates apart. Full article: https://english.elpais.com/science_tech/2020-12-01/the-differences-between-the-pfizer-moderna-and-oxford-coronavirus-vaccines-what-we-know-so-far.html

Moderna vaccine confers at least 3 months immunity: Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, they said that the antibodies, which stop the SARS-CoV-2 virus from invading human cells, “declined slightly over time, as expected, but they remained elevated in all participants 3 months after the booster vaccination.”
Even though the number of antibodies fade over time, that’s not necessarily a cause for concern.
NIAID director Anthony Fauci and other experts have said it’s very likely that the immune system will remember the virus if re-exposed later on, and then produce new antibodies.
Encouragingly, the study showed that the vaccine activated a certain type of immune cell that should help out in the so-called memory response, but only longer term study will confirm if this will really be the case. Spanish government passes 1st hurdle to legalize euthanasia: After early elections twice last year thwarted the Socialist party’s attempts to change the law, parliament voted Tuesday by 201 votes to 140 in favor of accepting its euthanasia bill for consideration.
The step puts the bill on a path to possible approval. It now goes to a parliamentary health committee for discussion and then heads to the Senate before returning to the lower house for a final vote.
That would make Spain just the fourth European Union country, after Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, to allow euthanasia, which is when a doctor kills patients at their request. As well as those countries, assisted suicide, where patients administer the lethal drug themselves under medical supervision, is also permitted in Switzerland and some U.S. states. Cannabis Is Officially a Medicine, Following Historic UN Vote: The vote to remove cannabis from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs was narrowly won by 27 to 25 votes, with the US and UK voting for the change and Russia heading a bloc of countries – including China, Pakistan and Nigeria – which were against the move.
The UN decision will add to a growing drive in many countries to increase access to cannabis-based medicines, and could also spark more scientific research into the drug’s long-known medical properties.
Currently, more than 50 countries worldwide have adopted medicinal cannabis programmes. Canada, Uruguay and 15 US states have legalised recreational use, with Mexico and Luxembourg close to becoming the third and fourth countries to do so. European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD) Results: Smoking and drinking among 15–16-year-old school students are showing signs of decline, but there are concerns over potentially risky cannabis use and the challenges posed by new addictive behaviours. These are among the findings released today in a new report from the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD). The study, published in collaboration with the EU drugs agency (EMCDDA), is based on a 2019 survey in 35 European countries, including 25 EU Member States. You will not be able to enter or leave any community between Dec. 23rd and Jan. 6th, except to visit relatives or close friends: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 02/12/2020 20:52h
The Government and the autonomous communities have agreed this Wednesday, within the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS), to limit entry and exit in the autonomous communities and cities between December 23, 2020 and January 6, 2021, except in the Balearic and Canary Islands . In the rest of the territory, you can only travel to another community in the cases provided for by the state of alarm, such as going to the doctor, for work reasons or visiting a family member or close friend.
“The slogan this Christmas is to stay at home and carry out only those movements that are essential” , stressed the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, who indicated that “it will be the autonomous communities themselves that authorize the days on which these visits to relatives and friends ».
During Illa’s telematic meeting with the Health Councilors of the Autonomous Communities, it was also agreed that on the 24th, 25th, 31st and 1st the family reunions are restricted to a maximum of 10 people, except in the case of people who live at the same address and that a maximum of two cohabitation groups are not exceeded.
The minister explained that this “minimum agreement” has been reached with “a broad consensus” , however, he stressed that Madrid has not approved the perimeter closure of the communities. “It is the only community that has opposed mobility restrictions,” said Illa, who recalled that the agreement reached in the Interterritorial Council “is mandatory” and is not taken “for pleasure or to hinder anyone’s life.” .
As established in the ‘Adoption of Public Health Measures for Covid-19 for the celebration of the Christmas holidays’, it has been agreed to set the curfew at 1.30 am on December 24 and 25, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, although only to return home and “never” to go to other social encounters.
Specifically, the document states that in the Christmas period, the autonomous communities and autonomous cities will make effective the limitation of entry and exit in these territories, except for those displacements, adequately justified that occur for any of the reasons provided for in said article, as well as for trips to territories that are the usual place of residence of relatives or close friends of the displaced person, complying at all times with the limits to the permanence of groups of people that are applicable. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/sociedad/abci-no-podra-entrar-salir-comunidad-autonoma-entre-23-diciembre-y-6-enero-202012021906_noticia.html

Britain OKs Pfizer vaccine and will begin shots within days: Britain’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency recommended the vaccine after clinical trials involving tens of thousands of volunteers showed it was 95% effective and turned up no serious side effects. The vaccine is still considered experimental while final testing is done.
Because of the limited initial supply, the first shots will be reserved for those most in danger, namely nursing home patients, the elderly and health care workers. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/uk-authorizes-vaccine-emergency-use-ea0170c978eb281a905866e5bd78bbdf

Solidarity Concert in the Church of El Salvador Nerja: “More than 140 families in a situation of request for help due to serious economic difficulties due to business closures due to CORONAVIRUS”
Reading this news deeply moved us and made us take out and clean our tools – art and culture – stored since March, and get ‘down to work’.
The orchestral project “Málaga Camerata” arises from the concern of young musicians to create a space where they can enhance their aspects as ensemble instrumentalists, within an orderly and professional work environment.
Since its foundation, it has been made up of a stable staff of about 20 members. The number is due precisely to the fact that there is a special interest in reproducing classicism and pre-romantic music, with the greatest possible similarity in terms of training.
We know that we cannot help everyone; But we can get 20 of these families to celebrate Christmas this year as well. It is a challenge and it is possible, with your help 20 families can!
Day and hour: December 20 – 1’30pm
Place: Iglesia de El Salvador – Nerja
Address: Paseo de El Balcón de Europa
Donation: 25’00€
Booking: 690073871 / ventana.abierta.acp@gmail.com

Recommendations & Requests

Firewood supplier in Torrox: With a cold weekend forecast and dwindling firewood, is there anywhere in Torrox that sells good quality olive wood (not root). We usually pick up wood as we need it from Velez Malaga, but with the restrictions cannot get there and cannot find a local supplier where we can collect a couple of barrowloads (local yards seem to only want to sell root which doesn’t burn on our fire). I’m presuming that collecting leña is not a ‘justified reason’ to leave our municipality. Thanks!

Andalusia continues to decline in infection rates in a day with 80 deaths: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated:01/12/2020 14:03h
Andalusia keeps low the curve of infections to add this Tuesday only 790 new cases of coronavirus across the region. The negative point is the ongoing high mortality in the aftermath of the second wave. In 24 hours the community has added to 80 deaths per Covid-19.
The decrease of the infection helps to lower the incidence rate of 14 days to 293,5 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants. Malaga (199), Sevilla (238) and Cordoba (250) mark the lowest rates. Jaén passes today to be the province with the highest rate of incidence in past 14 days ( 392) beating Granada that reduced it to 390 cases and that this Tuesday has only added 60 cases.
It is very illustrative that the province of Granada, subject to greater restrictions because of its high incidence in the last three weeks is now one of the best results in the past 7 days. With 116 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants it is below the level of extreme risk (125) as already reached in Cordoba (102), Malaga (81) and Seville (68).
However concerned about the tendency in the province of Cadiz, which, with 148 cases mark the highest rate of incidence to seven days, and that sum this Tuesday 188 cases, the largest log after the 190 new cases of Seville in the last 24 hours. Nor is it a positive evolution of the rate at 7 days of Huelva (139 cases), although the province is the least positive records today, with 39 infections.
In terms of hospitalizations, this Tuesday registered an increase of 25 patients. The total number stood at 2.099 patients from the that 419, three less than the Monday, are critical cared for in Intensive Care Units. Alhambra “reopens” for the second time this 2020″: The Alhambra, historically the most visited monument in Spain and one of its tourist icons, has reopened this Tuesday for the second time in 2020 after the improvement in rate of coronavirus infections in Granada have allowed relax the severe restrictions imposed.
An exceptional ringing of the bell of the well-known Torre de la Vela has announced the “good news” to the city early this morning, as happened on June 17, when the Nasrid enclosure again allowed visits after three months of closure prolonging due to the first confinement of the pandemic.
Although with a capacity limited to 65 percent, about 4,200 tickets per day available and maintaining its winter daytime hours between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., the Alhambra faces this ‘new return’ in a special way because it can only be visited at the moment by residents and residents of Granada capital when the perimeter closure in all the municipalities of Andalusia. Travelling from Competa to Malaga Airport: Could I please share this with everyone to check their understanding of the current rules on travel. I am booked on a flight from Malaga Airport on Wednesday 2nd December. I’m based in the UK and have details of hospital appointments later this month. I realise that I am allowed out of the municipality to catch a flight. But I need to know if my neighbour can take me as he usually does. If so what documentation would he need to have to prove his reason for making this journey. I welcome your advice soonest. With Thanks. Dave & Brian, Competa

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #85
-Why are Google Chrome and Firefox web browsers getting updated every week? Yes, some of it is due to newly discovered security flaws, the typical excuse, but there really can’t be that many bugs in a professionally crafted product, can there? Actually, some of the constant updating is to create new opportunities for them to collect your data. As users increasingly attempt to protect their online privacy with VPNs, ad-blockers, anti-trackers and other such tools, Chrome and Firefox attempt to counter these measures as far as their own snooping is concerned, while allowing these tools to protect you from other snoops. You see, these big tech companies are never satisified with maintaining their huge profits, they constantly drive to increase profitibility. So they must constantly update their browsers, to bypass your attempts to keep them out, to ensure they can collect ever more of your data to sell.
-What can you do to avoid this mess? Here is a very simplified explanation. There are other browsers, that do respect their users desire for privacy. There are only three major “core” web browser programs in use today. Companies use these core programs as a base to build their browsers upon. The 2 most common are Chromium (used to create Google Chrome, Opera, Epic, Brave, etc.) and Gecko (used to create Firefox, Comodo IceDragon, Waterfox, Light, etc.). The third is Webkit, that is the base for Apple’s Safari browser. So if you like Chrome but want better security and less updating, try Brave or Epic browsers. If you prefer Firefox and want better security, try Comodo IceDragon.
Links:
Epic Browser (with free built-in VPN): https://www.epicbrowser.com/
Brave Browser: https://brave.com/
Comodo IceDragon: https://icedragon.comodo.com/
-Tower PCs can now be replaced with new Mini-PCs for all but the most demanding uses, such as film editing and multi-track audio processing. Using the new, very small and cool running Flash drives instead of bulky HDD or SSD  drives, there is no longer a need for huge tower boxes and multiple fans. Everything can now be contained in a case similar in size to an IPTV box! All the connections are there to connect a USB mouse, a USB keyboard (you can use any language keyboard), plus some extra USB sockets, and at least 2 video outputs (VGA & 1 or 2 HDMIs, and possibly others). New style low voltage processors produce much less heat, so a tiny internal fan is sufficient to keep things cool.
I’ve been testing some of these mini PCs and am very impressed. While I was initially skeptical that the speed and performance on these mini PCs would meet my demanding usage needs, I am pleasantly suprised to find that a mini PC with only 4 Gb RAM and a 2.0GHz processor performs most tasks as well a tower PC with 8Gb RAM, standard HDD and a 2.8GHz processor, at about one third the price! To see what is available check Amazon for “mini PCs”.
-Search engines results in Google, Bing and even DuckDuckGo are now heavily filtered and manipulated. Doing online research is becoming ever more difficult as big tech tries to direct you to the info they want you to see. Their clients pay to get higher search rankings than others, so even if another site has more of the info you seek, you will be pushed to the paying client’s site.
I am currently using Searx as my primary search provider.
Try this English language, ad free, privacy respecting site for better results to your search terms:

Jupiter and Saturn Will Form a Rare ‘Double Planet’ in the Sky Before Christmas: Here’s how to see an incredible spectacle that hasn’t happened in 800 years.
For the first time since the middle ages, Jupiter and Saturn will become so close to each other in the night sky that they’ll appear as a brilliantly bright “double planet.” On the winter solstice, December 21, the solar system’s two largest planets will be visibly on top of each other in the western sky.
In what astronomers are calling a great conjunction, or the meeting of the two biggest worlds in our solar system, the planets will appear perfectly aligned from Earth’s perspective and only be 0.1 degrees apart (that’s only one-fifth the diameter of the moon). The last time Jupiter and Saturn appeared this close was in 1623, just 14 years after Galileo made his first telescope and discovered the moons of Jupiter.
The true solar system alignment of these two gas giants occurred a few weeks ago, but from Earth’s perspective as it quickly orbits the sun, Jupiter and Saturn will appear to inch closer and closer together over the coming weeks. If you take your telescope out early, the planets are already close together and setting later in the night, so you’ll have ample opportunities to track their progress.
The best time to view the spectacle on December 21 will be around an hour after sunset, right near the constellation Capricorn. PHOTO:CDN

Boxing News: Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. results in an eight-round draw in their highly anticipated exhibition match at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
It was a much more effective showing from Tyson than Jones, who landed 37 of his 236 punch attempts (16 percent). Jones connected with 28 power strikes and nine jabs.
Still, the World Boxing Council celebrity judges ended up ruling it a draw. As it turns out, the purse for the bout was even as well. According to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, Tyson and Jones each earned a guaranteed $1 million from the fight. Recommendations & Requests

Clarification: Thank you all for your feedback.
I can only tell you what the immigration/Brexit supervisor told me.
Obviously you should have confidence in your own sources.
The girl I spoke to spoke a little English, as I’m sure all of them do, so no need for an interpreter.
She did say that there are appointments available in their office, so if you’re anxious about it, I would go there, rather then waiting for torre to come through. It’s very easy to find them.
If you need any help, do give me a call. It doesn’t cost anything, and I can tell you how I went about it.

MS Bespoke Joinery: Hi all, we have just had a spare bedroom makeover carried out by Mike Storey aka MS Bespoke Joinery. We had a series of Castilian doored wardrobes which made the bedroom really quite dark , along with a large bed taking all the space up in the bedroom. Mike manufactured a new set of wardrobes along with a pull down double bed thus leaving the room with a lot of space. Mike listened to our requirements and really delivered the goods. He removed the old wardrobes with minimum fuss, and meticulously installed the new bespoke furniture including a full size pull down double bed. His attention to detail is impeccable and its a pleasure to see work carried out by a craftsman, nothing was to much trouble he even fitted a small section of plaster coving. We can’t sing his praises highly enough. He can be found on  https://www.msbespokejoinery.com/

IPTV News- EU Commission Calls For Substantial Law Enforcement Boost to Fight Piracy: Recent actions to tackle unlicensed IPTV providers, resellers and related infrastructure reveal that law enforcement entities are able to pool resources to shut down huge operations. But according to the EU Commission, more needs to be done.
“The capacity of law enforcement authorities has to be substantially strengthened. Counterfeiting and piracy must become a higher priority,” the Commission notes, urging Member States and the European Council to include IP crime among the priorities for the next EU Policy Cycle. Fast spreading bird flu puts EU poultry industry on edge: A highly contagious and deadly form of avian influenza is spreading rapidly in Europe, putting the poultry industry on alert with previous outbreaks in mind that saw tens of millions of birds culled and significant economic losses.
The disease, commonly called bird flu, has been found in France, the Netherlands, Germany, Britain, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden and, for the first time this week in Croatia, Slovenia and Poland, after severely hitting Russia, Kazakhstan and Israel.
The vast majority of cases are in migrating wild birds but outbreaks have been reported on farms, leading to the death or culling of at least 1.6 million chickens and ducks so far around the region.
In the Netherlands, Europe’s largest exporter of chicken meat and eggs, nearly 500,000 chickens died or were culled due to the virus this autumn, and over 900,000 hens died on one single farm in Poland this week, the countries’ ministries said.
Belgium has confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N5 bird flu on a poultry farm, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Friday.
The outbreak, which occurred in the western town of Menen near the border with France, killed 600 birds and led to the destruction of the other 151,000 birds in the flock, the OIE said in a website alert.

Malaga Christmas lights were turned on Friday, with little advance notice to avoid crowds: The decoration which has been chosen for Calle Larios is the same as last year, the fabulous Christmas forest. More than 100 streets in Malaga city centre and important areas such as the main entrances to the city will have Christmas lights. There will be no light and music shows three times a day as there have been in previous years. This is to prevent crowds of people gathering in Calle Larios. There will, however, be Christmas songs played in the street throughout the evening.
The City Council has asked that people not gather in the area. Full article:

Van Morrison & Eric Clapton Announce Controversial Anti-Lockdown Song ‘Stand and Deliver’: Van Morrison has announced the release of another anti-lockdown song. A collaboration with Eric Clapton, “Stand and Deliver” arrives on December 4th and will support Morrison’s Save Live Music campaign. The track was penned by Morrison and performed by Clapton.
Morrison’s “Stand and Deliver” follows three previously released songs he’s written against the worldwide lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19. With “Born to Be Free,” “As I Walked Out” and “No More Lockdown” Morrison accused the U.K. government of “taking our freedom.”
His trio of songs has drawn criticism, including from Northern Ireland’s health minister Robin Swann, who referred to the songs as “dangerous.”As Rolling Stone reported, Morrison has for decades voiced grievances through song.
Per Variety, proceeds from “Stand and Deliver” will benefit Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, which supports musicians who have suffered financial difficulties during the global pandemic.
“There are many of us who support Van and his endeavors to save live music; he is an inspiration,” Clapton said in a statement via Variety. “We must stand up and be counted because we need to find a way out of this mess. The alternative is not worth thinking about. Live music might never recover.”
“Eric’s recording is fantastic and will clearly resonate with many who share our frustrations,” Morrison said in a statement via Save Live Music. Source: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/van-morrison-eric-clapton-anti-lockdown-song-stand-and-deliver-1095843/
Some social-media users were none-too-pleased with the anti-lockdown song, with many saying it’s dangerous to send that message with COVID-19 infections on the rise almost uniformly around the world. In fact, Clapton and Van Morrison were widely condemned on Twitter, in some quite viscious posts, even bringing up an unfortunate Clapton quote from the 70’s he has long since apologized for, and some notorious Van Morrison pub-talk quotes, making the pair out to be right wing wacko Covid deniers. Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation, Jeweller: Some weeks ago I asked if anyone could suggest a manufacturing jeweller and received a couple of replies for jewellers in the Nerja area. I have since found a jeweller in the Caleta de Velez area which is much more convenient for me. He has reset a couple of diamond rings for me, transforming them from quite old fashioned settings to exceptionally nice pieces which I’m very happy to wear. The workmanship was excellent, the prices were very fair and he is very honest. I can really recommend him to the people who asked me to let them know if I found anyone. His phone number is 652531799. Jan, Caleta de Velez

Exchanging green resident card for TIE: Here is more information about exchanging your green paper residents card, although all official sources say is not obligatory.
The gov.uk link below gives all the information as to how to apply if you wish, plus links to the online police station appointment system.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/residency-requirements-in-spain#uk-nationals-who-registered-before-6-july-2020
UK nationals who registered before 6 July 2020If you registered for residency before 6 July 2020 and have a green paper residence certificate, you do not need to take action. Your green certificate (A4 or credit card-sized) will remain valid proof of your residence and of your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement after 31 December 2020.You may exchange it for the new TIE if you want to. The Spanish government advises the TIE is more durable and may simplify some administrative processes. If you want to exchange your green paper certificate for the TIE there is no deadline for doing so. The process will not change from 1 January 2021.
https://www.lamoncloa.gob.es/lang/en/brexit/howtoprepare/Paginas/190108residence.aspx
It is not mandatory to apply for the new residence document, but it is important to remember that you must have a registration certificate (or family card of a Union citizen, in the case of family members) that documents your situation.
I did exchange mine but the appointments to apply and then collect it were very hard to get at Velez. I started the procedure in mid July, waiting 6 weeks for the initial appointment and finally picking the card up in early October. Currently, friends who have been trying to get appointments have found there are none available at Velez police station.

TIE Card: I read with interest Pamelas’ letter on Digame this morning stating that, according to a functionary in Malaga, it is obligatory to obtain a TIE card. This is not the case if they are already the holder of a Permanent Residency card or A4 Green certificate, only for new applicants.
I am not sure whether you publish third party links, but this subject is covered extensively on the CAB website
https://www.citizensadvice.org.es/the-procedure-for-the-tie-foreigners-id-card-application/
It is also covered on the UK government website:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain#visas-and-residency
I feel that the information given in good faith by Pamela needs to be corrected, as many people may be panicked into taking action that is unnecessary at this time.
Thanks and best wishes,
Steve ( Caleta de Velez )

TIE- Advice and Warning: Jacky in Nerja’s foreigners office has produced a step-by-step guide to apply for the TIE – which all residents from the UK will need to do following Brexit. I am happy to email this pdf document to you or you can download on the Nerja web page.
I have noticed an increasing number of adverts for people offering to do this for you – they CAN’T! You have to present in person so they can take your finger prints, both to apply for the card and again to collect it. They will NOT let anyone in to act as a translator for you either. I know this from personal experience both at Malaga and Velez Malaga.
Dawn, Nerja (towellfamily at Hotmail . com)

TIE Card: Contrary to Pamela’s post today, I was listening to Myra from the Citizens Advice Bureau on Talk Radio this lunch time and she clearly stated that it is NOT obligatory to change to a TIE card, it is OPTIONAL. A lady rang in and asked if a friend of hers, who is ninety and has lived here forty years needed to change her green Residencia to a TIE card, the answer was no. Often Myra knows things that the Police and the British Consul do not, in fact on the subject of Brexit she had to correct the Consul at one of his presentations. Different Police stations interpret these rules differently. They are not always fully informed. For the truth always go to Citizens Advice Bureau as advised by Nathan in Digamextra. Confusing I know, its no wonder that everybody has a different tale to tell and rumours abound. Carole Hart, El Morche, carolemhartATyahooD0Tcom

TIE: In case the post by Pamela yesterday should provoke panic, it should be pointed out that according to several reputable sources, we have until at least summer next year to exchange our permanent green card/A4 residence papers for the new TIE. I agree that the process is straightforward; the difficulty is getting an appointment at Torre del Mar police station! I have been trying since August, and despite being told that they would be available online on about the 1st and 15th of month, this does not seem to be the case for private individuals. Personally I am not happy about trekking into Málaga giving the Covid situation, nor do I see why I should have to pay a gestor 60+€ to get me an appointment in Torre del Mar. One can only assume that from January 1st, when these TIE’s were originally going to start to be issued, then appointments will be available at Torre del Mar as they are in every other part of Málaga province including Antequera, Marbella, Fuengirola, Ronda etc etc. Wendy, Sedella

Andalucia says that residents of care homes can go ‘home’ for Christmas with certain criteria in place: The Andalucian health authorities have maintained that if a PCR test is provided negative by your relative from the care home and you sign a declaration for duty of care, they will, in fact, be allowed home for that all-important Christmas visit.
